TouchPal Swype-like keyboard - HTC Rezound

Is anybody using this keyboard on the Rezound ? I'm curious if it has compatibility issues like Swype. I actually like it better than Swype, so I don't mind giving that up from the RAZR if TouchPal still works.

just tried and it "works" but doesnt take up the full screen and doesnt seem to bee very accurate

Damn... It's the most accurate thing I've found on the RAZR. It doesn't fill the width? That's pretty weird...
Thanks for the info.

I don't have any compatibility issues with Swype.

in case somebody else comes across this, I wanted to mention that the current chinese version of TouchPal (5.1.4) seems to work properly with the Rezound (it has some quirks of its own, but I don't think they're specific to the Rezound). it is mentioned elsewhere on xda.

I'm using touchpal on Rezound mainly because I couldn't find Swype in the market. It's been working perfectly for me. very accurate for my big fingers. That's with my rezound in the Otterbox defender case.

I just got a Razr Maxx

I used to use a Galaxy S and I feel like Razr Maxx is falling behind with multi touch. Sometimes when I type fast, Razr would skip a letter. Also, the vibration is a bit clumsy compared to my previous phone. Other than that I love this phone. Is mine a defective phone ?
The stock keyboard sucks for speed typing. Try a 3rd party one.
Im using thumb keyboard and theres no lag.
As stated the stock keyboard isn't all that great. There are plenty of keyboard apps in the market to choose from. I like Flex T9 myself.

The included Swype KB seems pretty snappy.

One vote here for Swiftkey.

Yeah noticed that also. Even with 3rd party

The screen sometimes does not register a Swype for me but overall Swype feels the same as on my tablet or previous phone. I do wish the sgs2 had been on big red though. Honestly the razr maxx just feels weird
yeah.. I tried couple keyboards but they are stil lthe same... I'm typing really slow right now..
I noticed this as well when I had a Razr. Even seemed like it scrolled a little funny when I was scrolling through apps or browsing websites.
SwiftKey X is my keyboard of choice. I will admit the keyboard does not work as well on the Razr as it did on my Thunderbolt. But i think its because the Razr has a larger screen res so the keys are smaller than they were on my Tbolt. Not sure.

Do you guys think there will be an update to fix this problem?

SlideIT Keyboard

I would like to recommend a nice keyboard replacement for the Note.

I had actually purchased this keyboard for a Dell Streak 7 I owned. I sold the Streak and had forgotten about this great keyboard until I was going through my email's and ran across the link / activation from where I had purchased it.
Anyway long story short, the version is now up to 4.5, it's skinnable and has many free skins to choose from. Also hand writing recognition like Samsung's keyboard. You can also set your own landscape / portrait layouts as well.
There is a 15 day free trial to see if it suits you, just thought I might recommend this, my old activation key worked with the newest version, if any of you guys have used it on previous devices your license will transfer fine.
Try it out and leave your comments here.
You like it better than swype?

Nope!

I do but then again that's just me, if you look at the memory footprint it uses less than swype, has as many features and seems faster, but then again, my opinions are my own, just sharing knowledge I find.

I like the spacebar being offset to the right so i dont type.and.hit.the.period.button.all.the.time.
I've tried this as well as SwiftKey as alternatives to Swype. So far, Swype is still my #1.

+1 Swype is still best. Swift is a good alternative to a stock keyboard, but not close to Swype in my opinion.

Used this for a while on my Captivate. It was slow compared to Swype so I haven't touched it again.

I to have grown fond of Swype, so fast and fluid.

Can't find a keyboard that keeps up with me and has good auto correct

I type really fast and I can't find a keyboard that keeps up with me. I've tried swift key, as well as 5 other apps. Its weird because swift key keeps up with me on my dads evo 3d. Is this screen just not as responsive or something?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA
I've been using smart keyboard by dexilog since i got my phone. You can try it out if you haven't already. As for the screen, i haven't had any issues typing so far. Besides that you may want to look into the new swiftkey beta thats been out for a while and see if that makes a difference.
Honestly I have noticed the same thing. It seems to hang no matter which keyboard I use. Definitely can't type as quick as I did on my iPhone. Try clearing up RAM. Seems to help out a lot. Background processes can affectively the performance of the aftermarket keyboards.

Affect* Damn autocorrect. Haha.

You can try disabling haptic feedback. It helps quite a bit on keyboards.
Try latest swiftkey... Very very impressed with it.!!
Sent Via XT910..
Dumb question, but your phone came with Swype...have you tried it? Once you make friends with that method, it's insanely fast.

Cool idea for tablet ui

Could there be any way to run tge webtop 3.0 ui on the actual phone screen itself? That would make the dpi problems go away

Theres an app called nebtop but i havent tried it yet. So tempting, let me know if that works for you.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
Nebtop is for webtop 2.0 and it just allows you to use webtop on non lapdocks with an hdmi cord. Im talking about running the actual webtop 3.0 on the phone screen itself, not mirroring it to an external display. Doing so would give the effect of a tablet ui on your phone.
Thank you for the response though

For Webtop 3.0 you don't need anything, just plug into HDMI and select Webtop.
@pyroemaniac: isn't DPI have to do with the screen itself and not the UI? and wouldn't running the tablet UI on the phone itself be kinda hard to use
If you lower your dpi in the build.prop you can force ics to go into "tablet" mode but it distorts ui elements and causes instability. With webtop at the right resolution on the phone screen i think could be usable and would eliminate the problems mentioned above with changing the dpi.
Plus i just think it would be cool to use the tablet netflix and other apps on my phone

you actually have the best idea I've seen in months! I wish I had the time to write an app to do this!
Yeah i thought it was a pretty good idea, i just don't know if its possible.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
You could try installing safestrap, back up everything, then flash the Web top to the safe system then booting into it. I'm not totally sure about it, but I believe safestrap uses the Web top partition to load a custom ram disk on top of our existing kernel as a way to boot custom roms with a locked boot loader. Though, I would believe that the Web top would need some small tweaking to run correctly, for input, not sure the touch screen drivers would be included... Etc. But if it could be done i wonder with some additional tweaks if we could build a fully functional ubuntu rom...

Here's something I found for the Atrix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980193
My think is that it should be able to run as an application almost. I unhooked my phone from my hdmi cord one and my phone kept kept the webtop ui on my screen for about 10 seconds and i was able to control it.. though it was laggy

Isn't this essentially our nebtop?

He is basiclly talking a rom or a launcher with the looks of tablet mode, but on the cellphone screen without connecting anything, something like paranoid android rom we have on samsung galaxy note, i personally tried it on a note and its pretty good, would be cool for Razr.
In a way yes, but what i am talking about is we actually use the webtop software thats already installed on our device. If there was a way to open it like an application that would switch us over to tablet mode "webtop" and when you want to go back to phone mode you just use the same app to switch back.
I think that makes sense haha

All we need is a toggle button to flip one bit. The question though is which bit. Perhaps this thread would garner more serious response if posted in the dev section?
I was going to post the idea in the dev section, but people have a tendency to ***** at you if its not an actual product that your posting.

I totally understand that, and you probably WILL get *****ed at, but maybe one dev will think "great idea & i think i know how to do that." Go ahead and clearly post there exactly what you are talking about. Who knows, we could have that toggle by tomorrow &i bet it would get a LOT of press as it would be a whole new interface for Android phones!
This thread is a little old, but I recently acquired a Razr with a bad ESN and cracked but still working screen to use as a HDMI attached media device. Webtop was giving me a few issues, refusing to switch to tablet mode sometimes, so I decided to see if the dpi could be changed to force it into an always tablet mode.
Using a backup of the stock 4.1.2 ROM in Safestrap slot 1, I changed the DPI to 120 and it seems to be working well, apps still show as compatible in Google Play. I'm using Holo Launcher HD and had to switch some settings to get icons looking right.
Here is what 120DPI looks like if anyone is interested.

SwiftKey FLOW beta

Anybody else have the opportunity to try this new SwiftKey out?
Super cool and pretty..
Just installed and it is more lagged than SwiftKey 3 was.. Surely slower than the JB keyboard..
The thing I liked most about 3 was that it seemed real responsive...
OF course i understand it is still beta..
Okay update:
*I don't work for SwiftKey or anything Btw.
But I made SwiftKey A system app and did a reboot. Now **** is moving smooth..
Love it. Very close call with the Android 4.2 keyboard.. Love them both..
Sent from my Amaze 4G using xda app-developers app
Never had to convert it to a system app, it is smooth and fast enough for me. I'm loving this keyboard! I will for sure be purchasing when it gets an official release. I haven't used swype in a long time but this feels much better.
Sent from my Amaze
It's okay, I don't know swype is still best at what it does. All swift key needs is multiple options to pick from, it only gives you one option.
