no, curved design doesn't allow blocakge of speaker on hard surface, although listening to music I always like to flip it, since you get direct sound to your ears. If you leave it on a pillow it will muffle sound. pretty much true with all phones with speaker on the back.

What is the second mic for near the headphone jack? Is it noise cancelling? I've never really noticed it until a few days ago.
The speaker's at the back and the phone had a feature wherein you flip the phone over and it automatically activates the speakerphone. So I guess that's what that's for.

Doors anyone have wired headphones that have the volume and next track controls on them? If so what kind are they? Thanks in advance!
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using xda premium
The headset (earset that comes with the phone has all controls. But I think it sucks royally as the earbuds are horrible, even for my somewhat larger than average ears. I'm kinda looking for alternative myself.
I took Apple ear buds and fitted ear plugs on them. They works great you can't hear a thing with them in....only the music.... Oh yea

I know on my old incredible, the buttons don't work completely. Only some functions, I think that goes to say with all androids. There are apps that you can assign a different amount of presses to be pause, play, next though.
I know bestbuy has a pair of sony earbuds that are life $25, that have the "ipod" controls. They did work somewhat on my incredible, and there are a pair of skullcandy's that have the controls also. I assume they would work the same.

I order these, they are the ones that came with my old vibrant, since I lose my earbuds at least once every two months I would never spend a lot on them. I'm happy with the quality, I doubt it is as bad as some people describe the stock headphones for the amaze-- but my theory is if they are using a rom with beats audio the headphones may not be capable of creating that kind of sound at higher volumes.
To the best of my knowledge no android(I've seen at least) has working volume control, tho I'll bet a few might.. I haven't tried any with volume control on my amaze.
I use poweramp music player, I press 1 time to pause/play, two times to skip, and then you can decide what you want three presses to do- I have it switch playlists. If someone calls I press once to answer, once to hang up, and if I was listening to music it comes back on.
I've never been totally sure, but I think the beats audio libs only work on the stock music app, so that might be why I don't have any complaints about audio quality(because I use poweramp)..
Anyways, thought I'd share in case it was helpful.

Yes, it's low - it's at the bottom of the device.

Why didn't you say it wasn't loud enough, or the volume was low
You can try a louder sound clip, but don't boost it too much, else it will distort, and distortion is bad.

Turn it upside down, sorry, couldn't resist. That's one thing I really liked about my OG. With the extended battery, laying it on it's back on speaker phone the sound would bounce off the surface and expand the sound dispersion.

I think its much louder than the.3D.
Sent from my EVO LTE!!
Does anyone know how the speaker compares to e4gt? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
It is much louder than the EVO 3D. I was very disappointed with the EVO 3D volume, but this phone, IMO, has great volume out of the box.

I too agree that the speaker volume is low!
coming from the Evo 3D this speaker is louder than a Mother F*****
I have both phones playing the same tune, side by side in sync at max volume with both speakers facing me. They are pretty darn close.
Possible slight edge to EVO LTE and just a bit more edge for LTE listening from the front (speaker facing away). Sounds comes around the bottom center better on the LTE than the dead center of the 3D.
acoustics.... get you some!
put the phone in a deep container, vase, gallon pitcher, any cylindrical object with a wider mouth than bottom.
you can aim it in any direction you desire, it will be 2x-5x louder.
i listen to music from my phone while i shower, simply putting the phone in the bottom of the sink is plenty
A guy a phone and a cup. thats how i roll

Yeah it's great to have a phone again that I can hear when ringing! I can't tell you how many phone calls, sms or gtalk messages I missed because of the low volume on the EVO 3D.
Does anybody know of a way to hack the phone speaker to work when playing videos or music? Even if the volume was lower then the speaker on the back I think this would create a nice fill effect that would help the sound.

When you watch YouTube videos the speakers is on the back the the sound isn't the greatest. I'm wondering if there is a way to have the phone speaker play the audio for the videos as well as the speaker on the back? I think this would really help out when watching videos or playing music.

Dafuq?
I think when he is referring to the front speaker he means the one used when making phone calls. If I understand correctly, you are asking if there is a way to have audio from music and movies play through the rear speaker and the front, telephone speaker.
I have never seen anything like this but I'm sure there is a way somehow. However, the telephone speaker isn't meant for the kind of volume the rear speaker is and I don't imagine it would enhance the sound in any way. Also, you might cause damage to the telephone speaker if you were to try something like that.

This is what I meant. I know the telephone speaker wouldn't be that loud but I just think it would help. The telephone speaker would act like a surround sound speaker in a home theater. It's not that loud but it makes the entire system sound better.

The speaker on the back of this phone is leaps and bounds better than the one on my rezound (with beats by dr dre). It may have something to do with the fact that he only impersonates a doctor and is not in fact a real doctor. just sayin

This is a microphone grate if I'm not mistaken. I'm fairly certain only one of them is a speaker. There are threads all over this forum with this being stated.

now, if you had the bastardized verizon version like i do, youd see how this is so. there's only one speaker looking grate on their version.. and its not a grate, it's 3 holes.. then the other side is 1 tiny mic hole. wish ours looked like yours though bc the asymmetric look is awful

Yes this was my first disappointment of the phone as well. I thought it were stereo speakers so the phone will play music with good loudness from the speakers. Then I played music and it came from 1 grill. I googled it and saw it had 1 speaker instead of 2. (Cheaters)

stereo speakers right next to eachother on the same exact side make literally no sense whatsoever. lol it would've been a waste of resources.
