Hi all,
is there is a way to prevent a spicific app from accessing mobile data network (mobile internet)?
thanks.
Yes, there are several. I like to use LBE Privacy Guard and DroidWall. But, you have to be Rooted.
My device is not rooted
Any other way?
The app is "calender storage" i don't even know what is this

I cant seem to find any posts about this but it has driven me nuts since I upgraded to Android from my non-smart phone. I don't want to give my number out to every app I install. Yes I understand I can not install apps that require this permission, but is there a way to "Spoof" this permission. in other words if an app requests my phone identity, it would return a fake number instead of my real number?
Yes Im rooted. I am running Cyanogen Jordon
If you enabled manage premisions in CM APP settings you can go to the app and disable that premision.

Will the application fail when it invokes this permission? Is there a way to block it before hand?
Reason being is I would assume on install the app requests this information and sends it off using the internet connection.
No most apps don't break after permission denial example i block internet access of the Facebook app it won't crash it just keep trying to get content and after a while it will say no connection.

Look for Privacy Blocker in the Play Store.
Afternoon folks,
I'm going away tomorrow and was wondering if it was possible to disable all mobile data except for whatsapp. The friends I'm meeting all use it for communication and it uses a very small amount of data so I'm willing to pay the roaming fees for it but I don't want any other apps getting in on the gig and costing me a fortune
I hope theres a trick I'm not aware of :fingers-crossed:
Thanks in advance :good:

If you go on settings, Data Usage, it gives you an option to restrict background data on apps

if you rooted, YES. use firewall from playstore
Avast! and Firewall all other apps.
If you are Rooted Droid Wall and LBE Privacy Guard at two off the best apps out there. For LBE I would suggest looking for the 2.1.1002 version. Though if you are on ICS you will have to turn that version on manually if you reboot your phone. If you can not find that version anywhere. I have the apk on my phone and can send it to you. Just PM me. Hope this helps.

Llama
You can use the appl, "Llama". It's a free app available on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kebab.Llama&hl=en

I've done the exact thing you described using droidwall. Set it to block everything except ticked apps.
Droidwall seems to be what I was looking for, cheers guys. :good::laugh:
Is there any particular app which helps in monitoring data usage? I mean, I have loads of apps installed. But I just want Watsaap. I don't want other apps to use data. Is Thr any app which helps to enable just one app to use data? Do help me out!!!

If you go in to Settings-Data Usage and then just scroll down through all the app you have got, pick the app you want to restrict background data for, click on that app, and scroll down to the bottom and you will see a section that says ' Restrict Background Data ' just click that box and problem solved. Do this to all the other app that you have downloaded ( apart from Whatsapp ) and you the apps will then only use data when you are actually using them.
Hope this helps
Actually that's a tiresome task. For a rooted phone I found a better task. Get app called LBE. It creates a firewall. And allows us to do what I wanted very easily. That's if I want only one app to take up my internet. And also lots basically an app which helps us to control the all kinds of permission. Anyways thanks for the reply!!

Guys I'm contemplating not having root on my tablet z anymore as unlike my mobile I don't have text messages to backup or apns etc and I want to be able to use apps like sky go.
But what I do want to have backed up is my app data ie login data for apps so after reloading apps I don't have to open each one and reenter the info and especially game app progression.
Is it possible to backup to this level of information without root? What about googles backup service?
Any help will be gratefully appreciated thx guys

Hey guys,
I am wondering if there is any alternative app than AirDroid to remote control your phone.
Maybe an app which does it's interactions hidden, so that thieves don't recognize when I'm locating my phone.

Thank you! But I don't want my GPS always to be switched on because of the battery life. Isn't there any app, where I can remote-activate GPS when I need to find the phone?
