Afternoon folks,
I'm going away tomorrow and was wondering if it was possible to disable all mobile data except for whatsapp. The friends I'm meeting all use it for communication and it uses a very small amount of data so I'm willing to pay the roaming fees for it but I don't want any other apps getting in on the gig and costing me a fortune
I hope theres a trick I'm not aware of :fingers-crossed:
Thanks in advance :good:

If you go on settings, Data Usage, it gives you an option to restrict background data on apps
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
if you rooted, YES. use firewall from playstore
Avast! and Firewall all other apps.
If you are Rooted Droid Wall and LBE Privacy Guard at two off the best apps out there. For LBE I would suggest looking for the 2.1.1002 version. Though if you are on ICS you will have to turn that version on manually if you reboot your phone. If you can not find that version anywhere. I have the apk on my phone and can send it to you. Just PM me. Hope this helps.

I've done the exact thing you described using droidwall. Set it to block everything except ticked apps.
Droidwall seems to be what I was looking for, cheers guys. :good::laugh:

Need some help here. My S2 is using a massive amount of data and I don't know why. I get a 1gb allowance every month and in the space of a few days, its all gone. Gave my network (O2) a call and all they tell me the data usage occurs in the mornings. That doesnt help much. Can anyone shed any light on this? Its doing my head in. Im on the latest ICS and atm, its unrooted. Hopefully one of you great people will be able to help me out. Got a sensation and this is fine, got a nokia lumia and this is fine. Thanks in advance guys
Get a data monitor from play store which will identify which app/process is using your data. All the best.

Hi there,
You can download an app from google market called Permissiondog.
It tells you what permissions each app has on your phone so you can see which ones have access to your data usage.
It's handy for other things too! like checking if an app is being sneaky and accessing things on your phone other than what they' ve stated.
It could possibly be some malware that you have installed so maybe get a virus checker too I use Avast and it's pretty good.
Good luck!!
I downloaded and installed 3GS Watchdog as recommended by Tefanym. The culprit is the email app!!! Its used something like 548mb in a couple of days. Ive turned my data off atm but how can I fix this? Is there a fix or do I need to get back in touch with my network??
Check email settings for sync options, perhaps you can limit the number of times it syncs with its server
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Lot of traffic for a mail. It's private or business one? You can try to limit how often the app is syncing. Also you can try to play with the settings like to download only headers etc.

Is there any particular app which helps in monitoring data usage? I mean, I have loads of apps installed. But I just want Watsaap. I don't want other apps to use data. Is Thr any app which helps to enable just one app to use data? Do help me out!!!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If you go in to Settings-Data Usage and then just scroll down through all the app you have got, pick the app you want to restrict background data for, click on that app, and scroll down to the bottom and you will see a section that says ' Restrict Background Data ' just click that box and problem solved. Do this to all the other app that you have downloaded ( apart from Whatsapp ) and you the apps will then only use data when you are actually using them.
Hope this helps
Actually that's a tiresome task. For a rooted phone I found a better task. Get app called LBE. It creates a firewall. And allows us to do what I wanted very easily. That's if I want only one app to take up my internet. And also lots basically an app which helps us to control the all kinds of permission. Anyways thanks for the reply!!

Hey guys,
For about 5 months now, I've been unable to purchase any apps in Google Play. In fact, I can't even see paid apps, only free ones.
I've tried clearing the data and cache for Google Play. I've restored the device to factory settings using the volume down and power button several times. None of that has worked.
I've emailed Google about it, but they have been useless. The only way for me to get paid apps on my tablet is to purchase them on my phone and then download them on my tablet. Which isn't ideal as some apps are incompatible on my phone. And I've noticed there are a lot of apps incompatible with the Transformer Prime.
I live in the UK and the device is set to UK. Please can someone help, it's driving me mad!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Not a solution but you can also purchase apps on the google play web and push them to your tab.
I can't, when I go through the website, my tablet is greyed out and won't let me purchase apps on to it.
I can't even see paid apps on the website! What the hell is going on??

Create another google play account to purchase apps for your prime with?!
What about the apps I've purchased with my current Google account, can I still use them?

Things currently installed shouldnt stop working I would think.
At any rate, it was really a suggestion to narrow the problem down to the account, not your device. Then take that info to google and tell them to freaking fix it.
I'm sure you want to get your gmail etc... so you would have to switch accounts everytime you bought something. Not practical.
You could though say "Hey google, I made this new account named X, logged in with my prime and was able to add apps.
Ah, yes, that's a good idea. I will try that over the weekend. Thanks for the suggestion.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Well, I tried making another account but it's still not showing any paid apps. I'll send an email to Google, see if they can come up with a solution.
If anyone can think of anything else, please let me know.

I have searched everywhere and my wife and I have had no luck, we are looking for an app or software like mobile spy that is free. We use sms to email to backup each others calls and texts, but is there a way to have an app do all of this as well as backup any image taken to email and perhaps even remote access?
We love doing this, it is a wonderful trust building exercise that has made us stronger and I would like her to be able to monitor more.
We are both rooted with custom roms.
Thanks in advance

Hi mates,
Today,I got my code for ThemerApp.
Wanna try it...
I choose a theme, I press Apply and then....
!!
It requests an access to my Facebook account with full access to my personal information and friends list!!!
Why? Can someone tell me why a "THEMER" App requires my friends list?
I uninstall right now!
Pathetic
dont know why they do this. you can also use your google account but this as bad as using the fb-account.
although i really like this app this is really a nuisance !
The only reason I made this workaround so people can use themes without logging in to any accounts. Although it seems to be a trusted app, but it doesn't take long for any database to be hacked. Hope more themers use this.

because it's not just a simple theme app, it's a launcher with widgets of every kind (social networks included), rss feeds, etc.. and to display notifications correctly it needs full access.

I can understand a launcher with social network integration requesting access to social networks but I can't understand why it's mandatory.
I do NOT use social networks but I want to try this launcher out. It doesn't let you proceed without adding an account.

Also uninstalled right after installing... Why does it want access to my facebook or google account to work properly? like seeing all your friends and stuff ? Ehhhm sorry but noo thanks!
Also why does a themer app need to collect "anonymous" location data of my phone?
This app was a big promise but they ****ed it up.
Its for the weather widgets, and unlike you privacy is the least of my concerns

So do you use your Google account to set up your phone? To use the Play Store? What's the difference?

That is very unfortunate to hear. There is no reason this app should require that information.
I'm starting to question if I want to use it now.

Besides, if you really wanna use the app and are THAT worried about your personal info, making a dummy account won't be a big deal. It's not a "bit much" at all. You're talking as if it's an ordeal to do, or a huge inconvenience.
And speaking of dummies, the people freaking out about Themer are the same people that feel perfectly fine with using Google for their Wallet service, or for their email, or even for Google Play. It's the same thing as logging into an account to use Themer. Besides, only a total idiot would turn over crucial data to the internet these days.
Jeez. People....

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't MOST "Widgets" in Launchers require those kind of permissions? Look at Zooper Widget's Permissions:
They access those Apps to run them, so.. someone enlighten me on the difference please?

Its not Themer spying on us that people are worried about. Its what happens "if" their database gets hacked into the same way WhatsApp and TrueCaller got hacked recently.
But the Gmail permission is certainly understandable since it needs it to show the Unread Count in Everything Widget and having a bit of experience developing apps, I'm pretty sure there's no other way to get the counts.
