Just saw this today...

I think I may make the switch if it is half as good as I hope. Hopefully they learned from their flaws with the skyrocket.
Nope. I'm staying put with the sgsII!
Sent from my AT&T cellular device.
Just curious as to what makes you say that? No interest in the LTE, bigger screen or new form factor?
Depends on what the Processor is and what OS version it will come with.
i'm actually quite interested in the new skyrocket HD.
However, since there's SGS2 and skyrocket on the market for AT&T already, i doubt that many developers would make the jump and support skyrocket HD.
so i'm just gonna stick with my i777 because i love the developers here
Even if i could, no for the sole reason that it's most likely got a snapdragon chip

That too is a huge fear I have and is really my only major drawback to the device.
Now that Orlando will have LTE this is very tempting, but then again I am having way too much fun with the SGS2 to even think about replacing it.
Maybe if they announce it will have the dual core 1.5ghz exynos processors I'll give it another thought.
Samsung is going overboard. They should have released one galaxy s2 with their lte exynos and have a super amoled plus HD, THAT'S innovation, this is BS and gives Android a bad name for fragmentation

Isn't the GSIII also set to release this spring/summer as well lol?
If it's Crapdragon - hell no.
If it's Exynos - tempting, but I've already purchased one out-of-cycle upgrade, don't need the extra 300 MHz, and LTE will be worthless for at least 2-3 more years here.

2-3 years? How do you figure that?
I get an upgrade once a year with at&t, I got the gs2 the day it came out....so i still have about 7months left untill I can get my upgrade, by that time something bigger and better will be around....if not, i will for sure look into this phone.
im really thinking about it... the screen res was my only complaint with the s2 and now i see hope in the future!!!!
oh and i live in a LTE area
I used my wife's upgrade to get the S2 and i am available for a upgrade next month... i might sell my iphone 4 and S2 and take the upgrade... ill have to play with one first. My wife loves her phone so im set
as far as I know, the Exynos doesnt support LTE yet.
unless that has changed in the last couple months?
I'm sticking with mine. I live in a city that probably won't get LTE for another year or more. By that time, something else will be out and I can get an upgrade then.
I love my GS2 and battery life has been fantastic. Although I'd like a higher resolution screen, it's not enough to make me want to switch to the Skyrocket HD.
i live about 15 minutes north of NYC and LTE stops there so I'm just outside the LTE area. I wont be worrying about LTE devices anytime soon lol
At this point I will just wait for the SGSIII

I live in West Virginia. I don't know about Entropy512, but we are last on things like this if we even make the list. you need LTE to use LTE on your phone.
on topic, I'm disgusted with the amount of phones coming out. are people really upgrading every 2 months? Im not getting this.

I'm in the USA on AT&T. Where should I pre-order from? I had a pre-order in with Negri Online - but they raised their price to $795 today -- I was okay with $660 (with a coupon) but an increase of over $100 -- when nobody else is close to that price is insane.
Suggestions?
I've looked at Clove, MobileCityOnline, and HandTec. Am I missing anyone? Anyone worth a few extra bucks?
im in the same boat as you. These prices are insane. If I cant get one for 650 or less I might just wait for att and get on contract.
I doubt you'll find it for less than $725...
You can get the i9000 on Amazon, so I don't see why you won't be score to get the SGS2 there at some point also.

Its a kick ass phone and I will have one eventually but besides hardcore SG2 fans theres no way that many are gonna sell at that price.
I could be wrong but its nuts.
Lets just say I sold my atrix for 400 I would still have to shell out over 300. wowee
I think its worth the price but its just too steep for me right now
Or you could wait until AT&T or T-Mobile launch it there.
Luckily I am in India during the Launch here and will pick it up here and hopefully not a stripped down version from there.

I have a galaxy s i9000 and I have unlimited data and tethering for $10 a month on AT&T.
I got my 8gb i9000 on ebay for $550 brand new. This was back in August of 2010. I'm sure you can find a GSII for $600 on ebay once they are released.
piggy backing on the USA thread, hope the OP does not mind
AT&T still has to release Samsung Infuse, there is no date even for that. They usually announce release dates 2 weeks in advance - is this correct? So Infuse is hitting the market closer to end of April or even later.
Then they would release SGS2 within 2 months or at the latest mid July, a year anniversary of SGS1? What sense does it make for AT&T to have two confusingly similar (to J6p) phones released so close to each other? Why would they infuse stock with the Infuse and make it difficult to captivate shelf space for the Captivate 2 a month or two later?
I am writing all this because I am suspecting Infuse would become SGS2, OR SGS2 will be pushed back to end of summer. Possible?

I've been thinking along similar lines. I really dont know what purpose the Infuse would serve for them if they also have the SGS2.
I've been wondering if the Infuse 4G is actually AT&T's version of the Galaxy S II. Why else would they be so coy about not letting anyone touch it or interact with it at CES...then keep it behind glass under lock and key at CTIA.
Having said that -- I don't want AT&T's gimped version of the GSII, unless the price is REALLY right!
</ConspiracyTheory>
If it is at&t's version of the sgs2 it needs to come with some upgrades to what it's listed as now (processor, gingerbread). I don't really care about NFC though.

It very well could be although I doubt they will deviate away from the 4.3 in Screen.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i997_infuse_4g-3705.php
the Infuse is a single core A8 1.2 Ghz processor while we know that the SGS II will have a dual core. That is what the BIG-BANG from Samsung was all about... The screen and the processor.
The infuse to me seems just a likely indication that it will be a while before you see SGSII released on AT&T. Same situation with Verizon and the Droid Charge due out any day now. Even if they do not localize versions of the SGSII like they did with SGS (And God I hope they don't, those alterations largely were just annoying), release across carriers won't be simultaneous.
So does that mean we can guess what order they will hit based on recent releases or lack thereof? If using that logic, Sprint-->T-mobile--> Verizon/AT&T
Sad for me as I'm on Verizon and want to get a 4G phone before unlimited dies...it's not looking likely I'll be able to wait for SGSII

Hello. I have signed a two year contract with AT&T (4gb data yaaay...) and got the HTC Titan since im a WP7 lover, but after a week im not sure i can justify a long term agreement on the platform so im gonna use my 30 day windows to swap it. Since i know ill get bored of iOS its out, so its between the GS2 or the Skyrocket since the Vivid is somewhat laggier and locked bootloader. Im leaning towards this due to the Exynos vs Snapdragon debacle....
Question, Is it worth a contract nowadays or is there a better choice? I wished the Galaxy Nexus arrived before my 30 days was up but its not happening. Please share thoughtz

If you're in a LTE area and don't mind having a higher battery drain due to 4g then go with the Skyrocket. Of the two I think that the GS2 is the better choice but then again I couldn't take advantage of the 4g where I am so the skyrocket would be pointless.
Wow I'm sick of seeing these threads.
Only you can decide what is going to be best for you. If you're in LTE and use the phone for surfing, ect, get the ****rocket. If you play games or watch movies, sgs2 is the way to go.
Do a search and you'll see all the pro/con thread already out there.
Best bet is to go into a store and play with both phones. If you still cant decide after that, then specwise the GS2 is a better phone than the Skyrocket... so let that be the thing to tip the scales.

It is not entirely false. In my area (Northern California), the AT&T corporate stores and authorized dealers no longer carry the original S2, only the Skyrocket. I got mine from a local RadioShack. I guess it is because they are nationwide retailer and have their own stock. The only way to get the S2 from AT&T directly in my area is to buy from their online store.
99 bucks at Costco for an S2 and tax only on 199.99. 117 out the door!

I got my GS2 on monday (I ordered online) I right away noticed a dead pixel. I went into my local ATT store and they didnt have any GS2s in stock. They checked 3 or 4 other stores in the area and none of them had them in stock. The manager told me that they were no longer keeping them in stock because they are now pushing the skyrocket. She told me she thinks they were even asked to send the GS2s back.. So while the phone may not be at end of life ATT has decided to "forget" about the GS2 and push the skyrocket since they are pushing their new LTE network
Just my thoughts/experience on the subject
Sorry for posting another thread on this, I was reading the other topic posted here....
but since the thread was bumped again, let me ask. Does the SGS2 have more dev support than the SR? My main concern is being left behind too soon, and since the GS2 is closest to the OG, i think id get custom and official ICS before SR imo. plus i cant get over the crappy Snapdragon cpu it uses as well since im anal about those things and thats why i basically swore off htc androids because of it.
here is the kicker... i DO live in a LTE area haha, desicions, decisions...

I live in an LTE area (They just launched in NYC) and I chose the GS2 over the skyrocket for a few reasons
1. I had the bigger sprint GS2 and I actually prefer the 4.3 form factor
2. The CPU/GPU is better in the GS2
3. LTE is new and this is their first generation device I'd rather wait until it matures more (in handsets and network) than to jump on it now.
4. There is a lot more dev support for the GS2 and since it's so close to the International version it means we pretty much get whatever they get (just a tad bit after)
Now I did say I preferred the 4.3 form factor and I do, but after using the 4.52 sprint GS2 I kind of got use to it and the 4.3 felt tiny (even though it's really not THAT much smaller) so it took a little adjusting.
I was in the ATT store the other day when I was trying to exchange my GS2 with the dead pixel. I played with a SR and I can say you can definitely see a difference in snappiness when they are side by side. The Gs2 just seems more smooth and fluid. If I didn't have them side by side I prob wouldnt have noticed a difference but you most certainly notice a difference when they are side by side.
In the end for me the reasons to go with the GS2 outnumbered the reasons to go with the SR which the only reason I could think of is that it's LTE

Well, I DID physically go into two local ATT stores this past week, and neither had any s2s nor any accessories for it, in addition to being told by the employee that they were obsolete in their system. Yes, you can get them online through att, but not at the stores around here. Now that the Note for AT&T is official and we know the specs I wanted to get some opinions on the phone. I have personally been waiting for this phone to come subsidized to AT&T since it was first announced and now that it is finally here, I'm nowhere near as excited as I thought I would be and that all comes down to one thing:Snapdragon.
I know this topic has been debated before and some think it is vastly inferior to the Exynos while others that the difference is negligible but this is my biggest reservation about the AT&T version. I am currently using a Captivate at 1.5ghz running CM9 build 15 and while the phone may be old it is still quite smooth. I went into an AT&T store and played with a Skyrocket to get an idea of how the Note would feel and I was very disappointed. It seemed way more sluggish and unresponsive than my current phone and definitely slower than my friends Exynos powered GSII.
Another problem I foresee with the Snapdragon is the availability of custom roms. Now I may be spoiled with the amount of developers that the I9000 and I897 have had but with the hardware on the AT&T note being different than the international version, that may greatly limit the amount of developers it will receive. This may turn out to be completely false but my favorite part about android are all of the custom roms and if that were to mostly disappear it would be very disappointing for me.
I should also mention that LTE is a complete non-factor when taking this phone into consideration as I currently live in the Detroit area and we probably won't even see LTE in a year at the least.
If anyone would like to share their opinion on anything Note related I would love to hear it.
I too am in the same boat... I couldn't wait until the Note was state side but when I finally read the specs for the AT&T Note I started to loose interest. I have read all kinds of reviews on the skyrocket Vs SGSII / Snapdragon VS Exynos and while they were informative I couldn't help feeling like it's all personal preference. Unfortunately, my preference is leaning Samsung which leaves me with only one option. Buy an unlocked Note!
I also have the ATT captivate with ICS running Doc's rom though and think that's running smooth. (Battery could be better but that's for another thread) and I love how the community has picked up this phone and continue to support it even though it's an older phone.
I guess I'm going to have to wait and see what happens and hope that developers pick up the ATT Note like they have the captivate. Maybe the snapdragon wan't be so bad.
The main reasons I wanted the Note when it was announced:
Big screen
Exynos dual core
NFC
Front camera
8mp rear camera
Stylus
I guess one missing out of six isn't too bad

I had a Captivate before I got my Inspire, I wish I would have kept it, great phone, just wanted a bigger one. I think the reason it seems sluggish to you is because your Captivate is running CM9, while the Note is running GB with TouchWiz. Big difference there. Remember the difference between stock TW on the Cappy vs. CM? I agree that development may be slower though because of the hardware differences, but I'm sure that it will be a popular phone, and there will be some persistent developer that makes magic happen for us. Maybe designgears or DAGr8 will step up to the plate for us.
I think the smart money is with waiting for the reviews to come in.
The fact they pulled a switcheroo with the guts of the thing, might warrant delay on buying one. I mean, it would really blow to get all excited only to find it dog slow. You can speculate until your exhausted, but ......we shall see.
I had the unlocked version. I expect; no I demand, the same performance.
Frankly, i'm not very optimistic. I don't like the sound of some of these posts.
should be ok
Doesn't the skyrocket or whatever it is called pretty much have the same chipset?
I got the international version for a couple of reasons. The #1 reason is I didn't want a carrier branded device. I want the phone as untouched by a carrier as possible, and usually you can only get that with an unbranded device. #2, was I didn't want to sign another contract. I've been on the old unlimited for a year now, and I prefer to keep it that way until at&t kicks me off of it. #3, in my market, I think h*ll will freeze over before we get LTE. 3rd largest city in the state but, at 200,000 people, it will be a while before it gets here, so the LTE radio wasn't an issue, I'm happy with H+, and I use wi-fi for anything more than checking email and a quick web browse anyway.
If the only thing at&t does to the Note is the radio, LTE, and the lack of the home button, then I don't see why it shouldn't be ok, but, carriers have a way of crippling devices, like disabling the FM radio & tethering, both of which I use just about daily.

Yes, the Skyrocket is the LTE version of the SGSII on ATT. It has the snapdragon processor. I had the SGSII before that but returned it for the skyrocket because DFW had launched the LTE network and I wanted to be on it. I heard the same back and forth, but I find the skyrocket a very capable phone and the snapdragon a capable processor in every way. The one disappointment I have had in the skyrocket is the bluetooth. I hope the LTE radio does not affect the bluetooth because the GNote has a very good bluetooth system. That will be among the first thing I find out about the ATT Version.
So you tether on your Gnote? No nasty grams from ATT?
I was bummed about the Exnos initially but then really thought about it. For me Exnos would only really matter if I played a lot of games. The games I play aren't that graphics intensive (Worms, Front Line Commander, Eternity Warriors, Wordfeud, etc). Everything I've thrown at my Touchpad, which also has a S3 SOC, with CM7/9 it has played more than fine. Now with ICS on it the TP really flies and that's even with no video acceleration and other goodies that the Note will have working for sure. ICS on the Note is going to be awesome. I think the S3 chipset will more than suite my needs. The Exnos at this point is more for the gamers and bragging rights.
For me the things I want in my next phone are:
1) Big A$$ Screen
Ever since they announced the Streak I've wanted a phone with a large screen and this is larger than the Streak's screen. Luckily there is a big a$$ battery that comes along with it to get you thru 1 day without needing to be next to a power outlet.
2) NFC
Lots of cool things you can use this for, especially mobile payments. I plan on keeping this phone for a long time so I want to be semi future proof.
3) Local warranty
After having so many Captivates crap out between my wife and I, the thought having to send back that many Notes to the Int'l vendor just doesn't sit well with me. AT$T will comp free stuff when you've returned so many and will even replace it with a new one to keep a customer happy, or in my experience they have.
4) Functioning GPS
The Captivates GPS was barely usable especially in Google Navigation. With the Barometer and GLONASS the Note should be a much better GPS experience.
You guys have summed what exactly my reasoning lol. Anyway, hopefully the differences are not drastic from the skyrocket family. If there is little difference other then screen and such, then porting from them (and the tmobile gs2, where most of the development is) can be used, with adding like s memo and such. That would make everyones life better, as maybe something like hellraiser (old infuse term lol its a package you flash after flashing another rom from a whole different phone in the galaxy s family) would be fantastic with a ton more roms to choose from.

Well the Galaxy Note can give you a check by all of your criteria. I must comment on how much you will enjoy the GPS on the GNote. It really is pretty amazing! It locks onto a signal like a hungry dog on a bone and does not let go! Fast, accurate and Google Navi works like a champ! The GNote has access to about 57 or so satellites (US and GLONASS) versus the 27 or so in the US GPS network. That reduces time to lock and since you need 4 satellites to get a fix and altitude the Gnote is unrivaled in heavy urban areas like a downtown city.
Thoughts on the Note? Best AT&T phone available.
-NFC
-HD screen
-best GPS performance
-the chipset has tons of headroom for overclocking as we have seen with the skyrocket
-will be updated to ICS Touchwiz
-will most likely get an amazing CM9 port. (tablet mode would be awesome!)
-Incredible battery life. the best out of all smartphones from my experience
-Wacom screen w/ stylus
-LTE!
looking at the korean version of this phone (pretty much the same as the AT&T version) it has incredible performance and battery life.
I have a lot of people coming into my AT&T store asking about it. This phone has a lot of hype. I'll take a photo of our shipments when they get in.

Just keep in mind the S3 is still an amazing chipset. Look at the skyrocket forums. They've done amazing things with the same hardware

Exactly. I chose the skyrocket and couldn't be happier.
From my testing
Exymos- great for games
Snapdragon- better multitasking and the obvious lte compatibility

I know development will be fine for this Beast!! I need the LTE for when I'm on campus. My infuse doesn't do so well in some of the buildings, wifi is so so too. A Guy in my class has the vivid and he has almost full bars everywhere on campus. So the int. Version wouldn't be very useful to me.
What I am curious about is if At&t is going to force the new LTE data plan on me, considering there isn't any LTE where I live, and likely won't be for the next year or two at least. I've still have the old $30 smartphone unlimited data, would be pissed if they made me upgrade my data for basically no reason since I'd still only get H+.

They probably will. The LTE plans are exactly the same cost for the commensurate HSPA plan you are on. You will still be able to get the LTE Unlimited smartphone plan for $30. You might travel to an area with LTE and then would be able to use it. The LTE SIM can also be used in a HSPA area and phone but if you keep your HSPA SIM you will not be able to use LTE if and when in an LTE area.
Just a guess on my part.

Nope, you won't be forced to change it at all. Sales reps encourage you to keep it. You're good to go.
If something happened and it was removed, as long as you say that you previously paid for it and was removed without your consent, you can get it back.

Ok so I'm sorry to ask this if it's been asked before. Deal is I have the Htc one x but my grace period is almost up. Really like the phone but I miss my Samsung. Thing is when is it supposed to if it does launch for AT&T. If it'll be not intil the late summer early fall then I'll just keep my one x. If it supposed to launch say in June. Then I'll wait for it and return the one x before the 30 days. I'm back to using my iPhone 4 and can't stand it.
AFAIK ATT is GSM so you can just buy one, pop in a sim and you're good to go.
I may be wrong.

Yes, Samsung international phones have typically been compatible with ATT. And as for the AT&T launch, they definitely said june but who knows.
Define defitely first. Then we will be able to answer your questions
Thanks. Guess I'll return the one x and save my upgrade for the gs3. It's odd though if it would be a June release wouldn't AT&T have announced it yet? Don't they usually announce them a few weeks before for preorders and such?
Yes I spelled definitely wrong.
Ya saw that lol. Tried to fix it but couldn't. Going from a 4.7" screen to the iPhones 3.5" it's hard to get back used to typing
If and when att gets the gs3 it will most likely be different in the hardware cause of LTE. It will be the same as the HTC one x has for att. The new s4 chip set.

Yeah not really thinking it'll be anytime soon. I wish I never sold my gs2. I really miss that phone . It's ok. I really like the one x but not as much as I did the gs2. So I think it'll be worth the wait for the gs3. I don't have lte in my area yet. Maybe later this summer. Just don't have the coin to shell out for the international version at the moment.

Dont bother. The att version of the sgs3 will be severely crippled due to having only a dual core cpu and a crappy past gen gpu.

It seems HTC changed how app associations were handled for the US version of the HTC One X to avoid patent issues with apple ( http://www.theverge.com/2012/5/16/3...lte-custom-android-build-apple-patent-linkify). This caused some issues like the inability to view YouTube videos in the app when clicking on a video link in a browser web page (only open in the browser - boo). Samsung is caught up in patent disputes with Apple too so I wouldn't be surprised to see additional software differences from the international version...

See now that's starting to make me wonder. I'm curious if I'd be better off just selling the onex like on eBay and just forking over the extra cash to get the international version. I mean I don't have lte in my area yet so I don't need that. It's very tempting. But I'm more worried about warranties when purchasing these. Never bought any international phones before

AT&T will rape the SGS3 like they do every good phone, they can keep their LTE and their stupid yellow pages and everything else they might think I would want. And to make things even worse of course they will get rid of the physical center button.
Would something like say squaretrade work on this? Also I'm assuming (since I'm not in a hurry) the prices may drop come a month from now right?
Sorry just read this article. I know it's all speculation but 2g ram on the AT&T model would be nice

Speculation I suppose.
I read back around May 3 that "ALL the major US Carriers were doing everything they can to get this phone" or something along those lines.
Let be honest here Verizon is going to get it they are the 2nd largest US carrier and the only reason they didn't get the GSII was because of the Galaxy Nexus....and they fudged that up big time.

The Sprint version was better than the international in every way.
SCH-1535 at the Bluetooth Special Interest Group
Looks like it may not be too long until we see the Verizon version after all.
Regardless, the US Version of the SGSII was/IS still a beast of a phone. But back on topic...
I'm assuming SGSIII is coming to the US in LATE june? Any thoughts?
Okay - at least nobody knows for sure like I don't know. I'm hoping for a Verizon version. It would be amazing to get a quad core LTE SoC from Samsung, but likely I'm expecting it to be the dual core S4. Either way I'm all over this phone if it arrives for Verizon.

Unfortunately, currently there's no chance of a quad core with LTE from verizon. The ABSOLUTE BEST we'd get is an Exynos 5 processor, but I highly highly HIGHLY doubt it It's meant for tablets.
So, having said that, the next "best" that a phone like that would support is the S4 :/ I'd honestly rather have a 3G quad core I think. I'm not sure though, tough choice.

What exactly is happening to the data plan...? I read about it somewhere a while back, but unfortunately didn't pay attention to it much.
I currently have a family plan, and my phone has unlimited data and texting, but the family plan has like 700 minutes or something... Not entirely sure, as I do not use calling much.

the shared data plan verizon is forcing on people is going to kill the unlimited data plans for grandfathered people
which allows you to share your tiered data plan (2Gb, 4Gb, etc.) with your entire family or devices on your plan
once your contract is up and want to upgrade your phone, you will not be allowed to keep the unlimited data. unless you want to pay the full price of your new phone you can keep it.
verizon has not said when the shared data plan will come in too effect, but only "this summer".
so i am hoping verizon holds out long enough until sgs3 comes out

I'm now seeing this choice for myself as well. Where I live and where my wife works, there's only 3G available on Verizon. Where I work and during most of my commute 4G LTE is available. I'm not sure that I want to give up the quad core just for part-time LTE usage that will drain my battery more anyways....

Sounds like the quad-core is the best for your situation too. BUT... I heard that the international version doesn't work with Verizon or AT&T. Maybe they just meant "Compatible with 4G" for those networks, I'm not sure... But look into it a bit more to make sure, I don't see how it wouldn't work with standard 3G cell towers
Who else is psyched about this phone? I'm pre-ordering it as soon as VZW lets me!
