Speculation I suppose.
I read back around May 3 that "ALL the major US Carriers were doing everything they can to get this phone" or something along those lines.
Let be honest here Verizon is going to get it they are the 2nd largest US carrier and the only reason they didn't get the GSII was because of the Galaxy Nexus....and they fudged that up big time.

The Sprint version was better than the international in every way.

Looks like it may not be too long until we see the Verizon version after all.
Regardless, the US Version of the SGSII was/IS still a beast of a phone. But back on topic...
I'm assuming SGSIII is coming to the US in LATE june? Any thoughts?
Okay - at least nobody knows for sure like I don't know. I'm hoping for a Verizon version. It would be amazing to get a quad core LTE SoC from Samsung, but likely I'm expecting it to be the dual core S4. Either way I'm all over this phone if it arrives for Verizon.

Unfortunately, currently there's no chance of a quad core with LTE from verizon. The ABSOLUTE BEST we'd get is an Exynos 5 processor, but I highly highly HIGHLY doubt it It's meant for tablets.
So, having said that, the next "best" that a phone like that would support is the S4 :/ I'd honestly rather have a 3G quad core I think. I'm not sure though, tough choice.

What exactly is happening to the data plan...? I read about it somewhere a while back, but unfortunately didn't pay attention to it much.
I currently have a family plan, and my phone has unlimited data and texting, but the family plan has like 700 minutes or something... Not entirely sure, as I do not use calling much.

Well for me, switching to the SIII is a massive upgrade of hardware over my Epic 4G, even if it is the S4. And switching from Sprint to Verizon will be a monster upgrade in the network. I have to switch to Verizon, just waiting for this phone to do so.....

the shared data plan verizon is forcing on people is going to kill the unlimited data plans for grandfathered people
which allows you to share your tiered data plan (2Gb, 4Gb, etc.) with your entire family or devices on your plan
once your contract is up and want to upgrade your phone, you will not be allowed to keep the unlimited data. unless you want to pay the full price of your new phone you can keep it.
verizon has not said when the shared data plan will come in too effect, but only "this summer".
so i am hoping verizon holds out long enough until sgs3 comes out

I'm now seeing this choice for myself as well. Where I live and where my wife works, there's only 3G available on Verizon. Where I work and during most of my commute 4G LTE is available. I'm not sure that I want to give up the quad core just for part-time LTE usage that will drain my battery more anyways....
Dang it! Not sure how I will go about it either now.

Sounds like the quad-core is the best for your situation too. BUT... I heard that the international version doesn't work with Verizon or AT&T. Maybe they just meant "Compatible with 4G" for those networks, I'm not sure... But look into it a bit more to make sure, I don't see how it wouldn't work with standard 3G cell towers
Who else is psyched about this phone? I'm pre-ordering it as soon as VZW lets me!
My nexus will be rememberd
I can't wait for this. Been looking for a new phone for the past few months and have waited to see when this comes out. Hopefully in June! Gotta get off my Motorola crap.

I'm in the USA on AT&T. Where should I pre-order from? I had a pre-order in with Negri Online - but they raised their price to $795 today -- I was okay with $660 (with a coupon) but an increase of over $100 -- when nobody else is close to that price is insane.
Suggestions?
I've looked at Clove, MobileCityOnline, and HandTec. Am I missing anyone? Anyone worth a few extra bucks?
im in the same boat as you. These prices are insane. If I cant get one for 650 or less I might just wait for att and get on contract.
I doubt you'll find it for less than $725...
You can get the i9000 on Amazon, so I don't see why you won't be score to get the SGS2 there at some point also.

I could be wrong but its nuts.
Lets just say I sold my atrix for 400 I would still have to shell out over 300. wowee
I think its worth the price but its just too steep for me right now
Or you could wait until AT&T or T-Mobile launch it there.
Luckily I am in India during the Launch here and will pick it up here and hopefully not a stripped down version from there.

I have a galaxy s i9000 and I have unlimited data and tethering for $10 a month on AT&T.
I got my 8gb i9000 on ebay for $550 brand new. This was back in August of 2010. I'm sure you can find a GSII for $600 on ebay once they are released.
piggy backing on the USA thread, hope the OP does not mind
AT&T still has to release Samsung Infuse, there is no date even for that. They usually announce release dates 2 weeks in advance - is this correct? So Infuse is hitting the market closer to end of April or even later.
Then they would release SGS2 within 2 months or at the latest mid July, a year anniversary of SGS1? What sense does it make for AT&T to have two confusingly similar (to J6p) phones released so close to each other? Why would they infuse stock with the Infuse and make it difficult to captivate shelf space for the Captivate 2 a month or two later?
I am writing all this because I am suspecting Infuse would become SGS2, OR SGS2 will be pushed back to end of summer. Possible?

I've been thinking along similar lines. I really dont know what purpose the Infuse would serve for them if they also have the SGS2.
I've been wondering if the Infuse 4G is actually AT&T's version of the Galaxy S II. Why else would they be so coy about not letting anyone touch it or interact with it at CES...then keep it behind glass under lock and key at CTIA.
Having said that -- I don't want AT&T's gimped version of the GSII, unless the price is REALLY right!
</ConspiracyTheory>
If it is at&t's version of the sgs2 it needs to come with some upgrades to what it's listed as now (processor, gingerbread). I don't really care about NFC though.

It very well could be although I doubt they will deviate away from the 4.3 in Screen.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i997_infuse_4g-3705.php
the Infuse is a single core A8 1.2 Ghz processor while we know that the SGS II will have a dual core. That is what the BIG-BANG from Samsung was all about... The screen and the processor.
The infuse to me seems just a likely indication that it will be a while before you see SGSII released on AT&T. Same situation with Verizon and the Droid Charge due out any day now. Even if they do not localize versions of the SGSII like they did with SGS (And God I hope they don't, those alterations largely were just annoying), release across carriers won't be simultaneous.
So does that mean we can guess what order they will hit based on recent releases or lack thereof? If using that logic, Sprint-->T-mobile--> Verizon/AT&T
Sad for me as I'm on Verizon and want to get a 4G phone before unlimited dies...it's not looking likely I'll be able to wait for SGSII

Galaxy S 4G, G2X, .....?
thats too easy hercules! hercules over sensation any day and dont flame me about samsung updates. It will be a beast of a phone with or without the updates.

For unlimited data? I was upset to here that att is buying T-Mobile because they are expensive but to be honest my data plan is half of my bill with T-Mobile. If it is unlimited is there a gigabyte cap?

Not long ago I'd have said the G2X since it is (close to) stock Android. However, in light of it being unavailable currently and until we know if GB will fix the defects it has, I'd have to belay that recommendation in favor of another.
Tentatively, the HTC Sensation, which launches the 15th. HTC generally doesn't bomb on their phone releases, so it should be a sweet device.
If neither one of these, then do not upgrade. They are the only phones improved enough over the vibrant to be worth upgrading to. The G2, MyTouch 4G, etc, are all pretty much "sideways" upgrades and not worth it.
Definatly the nexus s or hercules
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
I'm wondering the same thing. My tweenage daughter's line is eligible for an upgrade on TMO in 4 days. She's held onto her feature phone responsibly, so I'm inclined to get her an Android, or steal her upgrade and give her my Vibrant. That would piss her off, but hey, I'm the phone geek and I pay the bill! Might piss off my wife too though... hmmm.
I can switch us to the Family unlimited talk & text plan with 2 GB of data for all 3 lines for $189 before my AAA discount, which should bring it to ~$160/mo. That's about the same as we're paying currently (or a bit less) for 1800 min, Fave 5, $25 Android data x 2, unlimited txt, family allowances. I could also go a bit cheaper, give her 200 min and 200 mb instead of unlimited min/2 GB and save $30/mo.
Has to be Android, preferably vanilla (or easily rooted with good ROMs, ideally CM7 support), definitely 4G. She might prefer a hard keyboard, I don't. She'd probably be thrilled with a MyTouch 4G, I'd prefer something nicer, dual core. Haven't been keeping up with hardware developments, what's out, what's coming... Thoughts?
Hello, all...
I JUST upgraded from an Aria to an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II. THEN I find out that the next day, I could get a Skyrocket for the same price ($150). I asked the person at the store if the phone had 4g, and she said "yes". I didn't know then the difference between HSPA+ and LTE.
Also, I found out that AT&T is planning on upgrading the Skyrocket to ICS, but not the original S II. This really kind of hacks me off!
Anyway, I only got the phone a couple of days ago, but already I loaded a bunch of apps and spent a day setting it up the way I like it. Is it worth it to take it back to the store and swap it out for a Skyrocket? I live in the St. Louis, MO area, so I don't know when we'd be getting LTE.
dochood
If you don't have LTE, absolutely not. If you do have LTE, maybe.
I just bought a SGSII and live in NYC where they will roll out LTE. I'm not due to the change of hardware and dev support. Seems like this is the place to be.
One thing that has me leaning towards getting this is the beter radio. I believe 700Mhz for data.
The OG SGS2 WILL get ICS also FOR SURE. In fact MOST LIKELY we will have a port of it well before the lte SGS2 due to the i9100 being an unbranded phone and the unbranded phones get WAY MORE OS updates than ANY US phone ever gets.
But as far as getting OFFICIAL ICS I would BET that they both get them at the same timeframe or very close to it. And back to the similarities between the i9100 and i777 not near as much work to change/configure the OS would be needed for the i777 as compared to the needed changes for the i727 lte phone and T-Mobile SGS2 version.
We had the SAME thing with the ATT captivate, the i9000 is close to out i897 captivate but the i9000 got way more updates since it is an international version phone that is unbranded.
The same holds true for the i9100 being unbranded and will get more support for it (just look at how many gingerbread leaks they are already getting/ have gotten) The i777 has already gotten what TWO leaks of upgrades and since the i777 is closer to the i9100 almost exactly. We should benefit from them again.
The i727 lte skyrocket ONLY has a close affilitation with the T-Mobile SGS2 with the same hardware all just a added lte radio on the i727 skyrocket.
So in summary the international version SGS2 has sold at least 10 million phones AROUND THE WORLD and the i777 is almost the same exact phone. So support will always be there.
I expect the i727 sky rocket will end up having support for it also but unless 10 Million or so phones are sold between the ATT lte version and the T-Mobile version the support will be more of a one off type phone.
These are just my humble opinions and basing it on how I saw the ATT Captivate get better support since it was close to the i9000 and how ATT does take a LONG TIME to get out OS upgrades for their android phones. Just look at the captivate i897, it has had leaks of different gingerbreads for quite some time yet they STILL do not have an official gingerbread. So when they get gingerbread our SGS2's will already be ICS. That is just how ATT works.

I personally don't think it's as black and white as you make it appear to be. I think other things like unlimited data (grandfathered) and larger display can make some people feel the change is worth it. Also pricing since many people probably paid $199 for the OG GS2 whereas the SR can be had for $149 in some markets.
I think if you rely heavily on roms and dev support, the SR is not the better choice though... I do like these things myself, but I'm of the belief that we'll get some love eventually.

If that's how you read what I said, my apologies. I updated it to reflect what I meant. Basically those people that still have an unlimited data plan might see a benefit to upgrading since they can use LTE (when available) without the worry of hitting a 2GB data cap quickly. It was simply another thing to consider and one that I thought about which lead me to return my OG GS2 and get the SR.

Difference is, the SGSII has sold probably 15-20million units worldwide (phones based off of the i9100). The LTE version, not even close.
So in the end, I just picked up my brand new SGSII from Bestbuy for $99 It was a tough choice but I prefer the sure bet.

I still don't get what you try to say. Are you saying with OG GS2, you can only use 2GB of data even with unlimited data plan? Or are you implying AT&T won't flag your for tethering if you hit 2GB on a LTE phone? If it is later, do you have any proof for that?

I'm simply implying that with an LTE device, you're much more likely to move through your allotted 2GB of data on a fixed plan compared to unlimited. It's not really a huge thing as I imagine the high % of users don't even use 2GB but with a faster connection, you're more likely to actually use it and therefore a higher or unlimited cap might be a benefit. That's all I'm saying.
So, after reading these posts, and considering the following points of my phone usage:
I use WiFi more than 3G/HSPA+
I got my phone for $150, price matched at an AT&T store with Sam's Club
I've already installed a bunch of apps and stuff on the phone
I hate spending time in AT&T stores
This i777 will probably have better community support, and I can probably get ICS sooner anyway
Who knows when St. Louis will get LTE
I think I'll just keep the phone I have.

But unlimited data plan is an inherited right for being old It has nothing to do with the phone of your choice. Less so for choosing one phone over another. I can burn as much data as on OS SGS2 as LTE SGS2 per month if I wanted. Until we see some benchmarks from reputable sources, we don't yet know what's the price to pay for that faster pipe of LTE. If Verizon's LTE phone can be an inidication, you basically burn through your battery juice much quicker than other phones so you get a dead battery early in the day instead of other phones sip through the entire day. In the end, you may use the exact same amount of data. You never know.
Not sure but..... When i am not in my LTE coverage area my download speeds are stilll way faster on my skyrocket than they were on my ogsg2. At the att store where there is no LTE my ogsg2 was get about 2.5 down and the salemans skyrocket was getting over 6 side by side. Might be worth looking into even in non LTE market

Yeah I'll add to this as well. I just hit 4.8Mbps this morning and the fastest I could ever reach on my OGSGS2 was 2.8. Probably a fluke but it did catch my eye.
So here is the deal, I am stuck between the international version, or the at&t version. The only thing is data for T-Mobile data development. Which one has more promise in terms of breakthroughs for data. I know we already have a radio for the note that lets us connect to 1700mhz and get 5mb down.
I am thinking of selling my Sensation and getting this.
I think someone hacked Tito's account. I can't believe a "retired moderator" and someone with more than 2000 posts has started this thread.
I just vote do it man.

I'm being serious lol. Just want to have a real discussion about this, not a spec war, or something like that.
Got the AT&T version 2 weeks ago. With the exception of the black pixelation issue, everything's been good. Coming from Sprint, I thought I would hate AT&T but the data speeds have been good, and sometimes insane(beyond 50 mbps). I haven't noticed much lag or anything either. You always have 30 days to return if you think you may not like it.
If T-Mobile data is important then the at&t version is the way to go..
There is still only edge speed on T-Mobile with the inter..

+1 on att. I think they have 3G/4G working on t mobile with some modem hacks like you said.

dude I've said it before and I'm saying it again. the international note will never see 3g on t mobile it's about hardware, and the hardware for that is not there to support that so it will never happen. the only way for that to happen samsung would have recall all of the international note and put in the proper chips in them lol. And we all know that will never happen. Just to show you guys that will never happen I'm putting on a bounty for 1,000,000 dollars to the dev that makes it happen and i know i will never happen. Because if it was gonna happen it would of happened already it's Been too long since the note came out we need to end this madness now.

No get an iPhone, stay away from the note.
Lol, its your choice get the one that suits you. What do you want to hear

Well, data is important, but I do see development on both sides. Which one seems like it would be the right choice in terms of how it looks and the type of support there is to be expected with it? I know that the international version already has AOKP and ICS things because of the fact that it has the Galaxy Nexus internals...
How is the battery life? My sensation gets terrible battery life like max around 8 hours.
Is the modified Adreno 220 up to par, it being over clocked and such?

I get 12-14 with moderate usage on the ATT version and 18-20 with same usage patterns on the International GNote. I have been using my International this week while on spring break and I love the increased battery life!

Hmm, my mom has an upgrade available to her so I could get a note and find her a good at&t phone from my work. The issue would be the monthly rate plan and contract she would be stuck with. Since the price wont change only the data plan, she has unlimited, and it would be 3gb. Amazon has the device for 250, but I don't want her to get stuck in another contract with that expensive of a monthly cost. She was planning on switching to T-Mobile but hasn't because of ETF.
What would be the best option? Get an international, or at&t version? I know the international one is basically having a new modem being written for it so it can potentially be compatible with T-Mobile, and that is wonderful. From someone elses standpoint though which option would be best?
I think the samsung note is one of the best devices for now, also I'd prefer Android instead the Iphone OS (last one sucks).

I have the N7000 version & it's awesome. The only thing that it's missing is LTE. Since your girl is on AT&T & has unlimited data, I would recommend she get the int model or you could get the AT&T & trade for the N7000 model.
N7000 has awesome support for ICS right now, AOSP/AOKP & imilka's ICS are pretty awesome & stable.
Get the LTE. So much faster
Ok so I'm sorry to ask this if it's been asked before. Deal is I have the Htc one x but my grace period is almost up. Really like the phone but I miss my Samsung. Thing is when is it supposed to if it does launch for AT&T. If it'll be not intil the late summer early fall then I'll just keep my one x. If it supposed to launch say in June. Then I'll wait for it and return the one x before the 30 days. I'm back to using my iPhone 4 and can't stand it.
AFAIK ATT is GSM so you can just buy one, pop in a sim and you're good to go.
I may be wrong.

Yes, Samsung international phones have typically been compatible with ATT. And as for the AT&T launch, they definitely said june but who knows.
Define defitely first. Then we will be able to answer your questions
Thanks. Guess I'll return the one x and save my upgrade for the gs3. It's odd though if it would be a June release wouldn't AT&T have announced it yet? Don't they usually announce them a few weeks before for preorders and such?
Yes I spelled definitely wrong.
Ya saw that lol. Tried to fix it but couldn't. Going from a 4.7" screen to the iPhones 3.5" it's hard to get back used to typing
If and when att gets the gs3 it will most likely be different in the hardware cause of LTE. It will be the same as the HTC one x has for att. The new s4 chip set.

They don't always. Lets not assume June either because we don't want to get peoples hopes up. They said summer. And Samsung is having a press release in June to announce the phones in the US. So June-August.

Yeah not really thinking it'll be anytime soon. I wish I never sold my gs2. I really miss that phone . It's ok. I really like the one x but not as much as I did the gs2. So I think it'll be worth the wait for the gs3. I don't have lte in my area yet. Maybe later this summer. Just don't have the coin to shell out for the international version at the moment.

Dont bother. The att version of the sgs3 will be severely crippled due to having only a dual core cpu and a crappy past gen gpu.

I'm curious if the AT&T version will get rid of any other cool features like the eye tracker and stuff. So basically besides warrenty lte is the only thing lost in the international version right?

As far as I know the eye tracker or smart stay is a feature of TW, so it will be present in the US AT&T model.

You clearly don't know what the term "crippled" means nor that the S4 is benchmarking as well or better than the two quad core options. I suggest you read up before making statements like that.

It seems HTC changed how app associations were handled for the US version of the HTC One X to avoid patent issues with apple ( http://www.theverge.com/2012/5/16/3...lte-custom-android-build-apple-patent-linkify). This caused some issues like the inability to view YouTube videos in the app when clicking on a video link in a browser web page (only open in the browser - boo). Samsung is caught up in patent disputes with Apple too so I wouldn't be surprised to see additional software differences from the international version...

See now that's starting to make me wonder. I'm curious if I'd be better off just selling the onex like on eBay and just forking over the extra cash to get the international version. I mean I don't have lte in my area yet so I don't need that. It's very tempting. But I'm more worried about warranties when purchasing these. Never bought any international phones before

Buy from expansys, negri, handtec, etc.. they all work with samsung for warranties. You ship to them and they take care of it. I had the same question.. like a lot of others did

AT&T will rape the SGS3 like they do every good phone, they can keep their LTE and their stupid yellow pages and everything else they might think I would want. And to make things even worse of course they will get rid of the physical center button.
Would something like say squaretrade work on this? Also I'm assuming (since I'm not in a hurry) the prices may drop come a month from now right?
Sorry just read this article. I know it's all speculation but 2g ram on the AT&T model would be nice
