Does anyone have any idea how to get the Android Police OTA file to work? They gave the file, but it never dawned on them to include instructions.
Long shot here but maybe use asus sync? ... If you are rooted install ota rootkeeper before hand to back up root and recover after ota

Can't use it- don't have a USB port for the tablet.
Any other ideas?

You would use the charging cable to hook up to PC.

It blows my mind that Android Police would release the file and not add any instructions on how to use it. Unfortunately I'm one of the suckers with no serial number on their TP, so manual update is all I have.
ANY updates files just add to SD card... wait.. Asus will pick it up and you update
It gives an error unfortunately. Yeah guess we'll just have to wait a few days. Very annoying that every update is going to be like this.

Does anyone know what the OTA does/changes? I would hate to apply it for no significant reason and cost myself a chance at root in the future.
Not until Leo, tmartin, toast, or haus says so. They are working on root

So in other wordss, don't apply it??
HTC EVO = my best friend
Do not apply it unless you want to wait for root.

You and anybody else saying that is just as useful as me saying if you take the OTA, you wont have to wait.
At this point everything looks like its just pure speculation, nobody knows for sure.
When would you ever apply an OTA~ I don't recall a situation where it was a good idea LOL
Can't watch the Green Hornet until I update the software. No thanks.
I didn't update mine yet and it played green hornet just fine. It's a shame they didn't put a better movie on here it actually looks pretty darn good. It's the most impressive 3d content I've seen so far on the 3vo

Where did you get your phone, Best Buy?
I applied the update and now my phone shortcut is missing from the lockscreen and the app drawer. I searched online and apparently it's a common issue and HTC is working on yet another update to fix it. Apparently the first OTA update allowed you to connect to the phone via ADB.... so it looks as if they MAY be in the process of unlocking the bootloader for us.
Either way, there are a few small bugs to work out.
I wouldnt apply the OTA.. i know that its not confirmed it will do anything to affect root. However my understanding is the devs working on root didnt do it and im not going to either. Id like my phone to be as similar to the ones they are working on as possible just in case it matters.
On top of that i dont see any problems from not installing the OTA.
Too funny. You guys say you don't trust the OTA but you trust the software that came on the phone to begin with? Anyhow, HTC put out an update for a reason- it fixes things that are broken. If you want a partially functioning and buggy device, do not apply the update. If we had root I could see why people would be so concerned about losing it. However, we do not have root and who knows when we will. So, if until then you want a phone that works properly, apply the update which probably isn't going to change a whole lot in regards to your ability to root.
So if I did apply the update I'm f'ed??

OTA - KIA my 3VO
The OTA has screwed up my phone. It is stuck in a boot loop; I was able to go to the bootloader but the factory reset did not fix it. I am headed to the store to swap out my brand new phone.

Nope. Its all speculation at this point.
mine worked fine did you give it some time?
I'd hold off on updating for the simple reason HTC is trying to fix their last OTA lol
My phone arrives Monday but I'll wait unless theres a bug that is really bothering me, otherwise I can hold off. If you want to update for the sake of updating then don't whine if it prevents you from rooting later.

I am wondering if any of you are able to receive OTA updates when your TFP has uknown serial number?
Is there a link to manually download the ICS update and apply it by putting it on SD Card?

All we can do is wait for asus' support site to hook it up.....google asus support.
http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Eee%20Pad%20Transformer%20Prime%20TF201&p=20&s=16
Select android os and click firmware. When its up itll be there.

same here , waiting until asus or someone uploads the update.
i have already requested an exchange officedepot , will get it by 1/11
This sucks.
So there is no way for my TFP to upgraded to ICS? I read somewhere that it is a kernel issue and once I upgrade to ICS the unknown serial issue will be resolved.

LOL - Wonder if this can be done via the sdcard update route - I'm downloading the one posted in dev now - 28 minutes left. After that I'll look at it, if it looks like the other sdcard updates I'll give it a shot. Otherwise, maybe a copy to /cache will make it take off.

OH suddenly this is making sense. It keeps telling me I have no update available, and my serial number is unknown. Is that why it's saying that? Or is the update only rolling out to a few people at a time?

Let us know if it worked. Otherwise, my Prime is going back this afternoon.
Also if it does work let everyone know if you still have the serial # unknown.
If I were Asus I would've put the update on the support site AND released ota........just sayin

This doesn't look good. I can't find a single user on any site that has successfully manually updated to ICS using the SD Card method.

Oh well. I'm packing my TP up right now. I only have 1 day left to return my TP to Best Buy, and it doesn't appear that there's going to be a solution for those of us with the "unknown serial number".
I've returned mine and my new one comes in today! Hopefully it will have a serial number and will actually see at least 1 sat.

One of the reasons I didn't want to return mine was it sees and locks on satellites, and the wifi was good. This really blows. If/when I return it later, I'm not ordering another one until all these issues sort themselves out.
Just downloaded new update Florida checking it out will get back.
Wow, earlier than expected! Is it .21?
firmware 9.4.2.21
Yes I received the .21 update as well. I'm in Florida.

Have you changed or deleted any system files? If so that would cause it to fail. You need an unaltered system in order to update.

I only thought that deleting G+ for example would give you trouble updating?
I also don't like the fact that the system updater doesn't give you any clue about what went wrong.
I'll just skip this update, my tablet works fine as it is.

Are you willing to unlock your Prime and void the waranty? If yes then you can install CWM. If not, you have to wait for someone to find an exploit that allows root.

His Prime is already unlocked. The issue is that he cannot install CWM because:
A) No root access for ROM manager inside working OS!
B) No access to using fastboot as this is his only computer!
If you can get to london next week, I will be more than happy to meet up and help you out dude.
might take you up on that as i fooked a flash on my galaxy s now and cant get to the recovery screen now.. lol. where in london are you?

I know that he is unlocked from a previous thread.
I'm in Brockley in south London however, I spend time at my University in North London, near the Emirates Stadium.
PM me if you want to meet up, and hopefully we can get you back up and running.
ok, bit of an update. my galaxy i9000 crashed the other day. managed to get into local library and flash through odin in there and get it working again but the machine is locked down and no command prompt available so unable to push cwm onto my prime. so question, is there a method for doing this without command prompt or can some clever bod write an executable or batch file that will do this for me on a restricted local library machine.. cheers

So, stock, unlocked, rooted, well partial root after update but that's a different problem. After the recent JB update it is prompting me to install a system update to "US_epad-user-9.4.2.28 dated 6/13/12 10:03:02". This is persistent in the status bar after every boot, and pops up constantly. Same thing on my wife's tablet. Am I correct in assuming I do not want to apply this? How the hell do I make it go away?
Thanks in advance.
