ICS help - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

So after the ICS update I can no longer close applications with the task manager like before. I could just hit the little
X on each app and be done with it. But now the X is gone and clicking there does nothing. Is there a setting I am
missing ? It is driving me crazy not being able to do this :-(

Search the forums! You can swipe the applications "away".

The swiping away rather than clicking the x is less intuitive than they had planned i see..

Beam requires an NFC chip, I'm pretty sure the Prime doesn't have one.
I no longer have the option to close out running applications.
Now they just pile up and don't provide an "X" to close them.
This will just hog up system resources.
Still no functionality for the lower portion of the mouse pad. A simple left-click would at least allow for easier attempt at selecting text in a text box.

Remember ics is swype now, open recent apps and slide the app left or right and it will close the app

Face unlock seems to be a galaxy nexus feature now more than ICS. even my nexus s that runs on Ics, never got the face unlock
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
I was looking thru the apps disabling what I could in the settings and I see that Face Unlock is in there it lets you force close it and disable it. Its version 4.0.3-239410 and says its 64KB not sure if thats the full app or maybe something that will get added in later. Maybe we just need to find a way to enable it?
Perhaps the front facing camera is not up to spec hence the upgrade this summer?
And, hit the X below the notifications to close all of them at once. That's a welcome addition.

Changing keyboard automatically when docking/undocking

When not using the dock, I prefer to use Thumb Keyboard from the market for the on-screen keyboard. The problem is when I dock the tablet, the keyboard stays on Thumb Keyboard, which uses the US keyboard layout which is a bit of a problem since my Prime is the UK model. The keyboard layout differs slightly which is not a huge problem but it does get a bit annoying.
I can manually change the keyboard back to the Asus keyboard but that seems to be an extra step in something that should be automated. Does anyone know if there is an app or a setting that tells the tablet to change keyboard automatically when you dock or undock the keyboard? Thanks!
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
I believe there is an application for that, but I don't remember it's name unfortunately. It might require root too.
I'm also using thumb keyboard, but I haven't found any inconsistencies yet, could you point them out to me?
As for fixing your issue, you could try the ' alternative/international keyboards' setting
The only one I have found so far are @ and " being switched around. (shift+2 is @ on US keyboard, " in UK) There might be more but I haven't really tested them out. Anyway I tried looking at the international keyboard settings but there seems to be no way to change to the UK layout; there's just one QWERTY keyboard.

i just did the other day using viperboys method, it was done in less than 10 minutes with NO hassle. HIHGLY recommend it. i pretty much did it for this app, which USED to be paid. for w/e reason, dev made free... and im glad!
my only possibly objection to KBM, it places a notification in the bottom right. i just hate notifications. i try to clear em asap. but, same goes for external sds... so i guess we just deal with it lol...
Lol. I know lots of people get annoyed by notification icons but I'm pretty cool with them so it should be alright. Thanks for the tip on the rooting method.

in the settings for keyboard manager you can disable to the notification.

ya i know but leaving a notification makes it more of a persistent app. i use swipepad on my phone with notification persistence but the dev made it possible to make the notification icon transparent. this should be in ALL notification icons imho!

Replacement launcher (ADW EX) but with annoying Menu button

I have not rooted my EVO LTE yet. But I installed ADW EX for now and can't stand the menu button on the bottom. It takes up too much space.
I'm not a Sense fan and was hoping version 4.0 was better, but but after a couple of days I still prefer pure Android. Unfortunately I can't figure out why HTC and others are adding permanent home, and back and recent buttons when ICS looks better without them.
Even when I root and install CM9, for example, I'll have a huge menu button that takes up too much space.
Anyone see what I'm talking about?
What can we do about it?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Man I installed go launcher and I'm wondering the same exact thing. I upgraded to this phone to have a bigger screen than my s2 and I can't even do that without sense..
Does anyone know how to get rid of that menu vertical ... at the bottom?
I think an option is to use Apex or Holo launcher. They seem to be better suited for ics. Just saw a video review of it here http://goo.gl/cykps
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Another option is Nova Launcher. It is a true ICS launcher that is really slick and and does away with the three dot menu.
There is a mod that could be flash to remove menu bar and remaps it. Have you guys tried it?
Sent from my EVO using XDA
If you flash cm9 they remapped the buttons that crap is gone, it's running way better than sense also. Just a few minor issues.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
But is there an official CM9 out for the evo? One thing I'm not liking is the 1gb ram and sense. Sense is still too heavy for 1 gb ram. Sometimes it takes 15-20 seconds to load the sense launcher.
I bought apex pro. Better, but when I jump to different apps then hit the home button, sometimes it takes a few seconds to load the launcher.
That just tells me memory is running out somewhere (sense).

OP, just to clarify, when you unlock and run CM9 , you WON'T have the big long menu bar. Even on sense, if you're rooted you can get rid of it.

+1 on Nova.
Running Fresh 1.0 with Nova launcher, no lag but never really had any of the Sense 4.0 reload issues that some talked about anyway. Figured it was just the GS3 people trying to troll but maybe a bad batch of cells went out too..
Anyway, NOVA is sick! Setup the way you want, gives you better visual then GO etc (IMO) and great on footprint (memory). Works very well and as the other user stated, its native to ICS anyway. Give it a shot, blows the doors off anything else I tried and no lag anywhere..
Fresh is great too IMO, there are some great multitasking tips using the ROM toolbox, adjusting heaps etc..works well also,

What you say would be a solution for my discontent. I'm going to root soon and will remove some of the sense bloatware, but removing the menu also interests me. Regarding CM9 once it's officially supported ill be on board.
I bought apex and almost bought nova instead. They both look interesting.

Just to let you know the menu button on the bottom shows because those apps having been optimized to ICS, yes after 7-8 months and developers still doing the same, thats the reason you dont see any system apps doing that, cause their optimize, I wish developers would tho

So it's just a matter of time before more apps are optimized? It is very annoying...

Another option I wouldn't mind would be to hack the recent apps button to make it think it's the menu button. I'm used to long pressing the home button anyways. I think the Sgs3 is like that.

Loaded it up last night. The good news is, the Transformer dock keyboard now works in the search field even when you're not on the home screen! Also, the video window is larger. Overall, it's a good change.
i think im going to pass on this update as long as i can. i love the dark theme of the old version, the white is too hard on the eyes.
The new version has its good points, we can now actually delete videos from play lists and it seems to be a little bit faster however everything looks huge and oversized like its been designed for kids. There is also no full screen button so you have to watch a boxed video, although it is a slightly larger video box than the previous version.
I tried it and hated it and have gone back to the old version. It just looks nicer overall and has a full screen mode.

For me it's just like the desktop update, ugly and counterintuitive. Everything takes much more time to do and find now, I'm reverting to theold look
The fullscreen button is there, but it's bugged. If you rotate tablet you will see it (into portrait mode), and sometimes it becomes visible in landscape mode. Sometimes...
I also think that old one was better. First it was blackish which was much better, comments were on better position - now you have to have collapsed description and related videos and all buttons are ridiculously big => bigger controls, less content.
Thankfully I was able to revert to old version

HTC One (swype) keyboard show delay

i've been using my HTC One for over a month now.
it's great, but the keyboard shows with an increasing delay.
currently when i try to type something, it takes 1-2 seconds for the keyboard to show.
everything else is fast and responsive.
is it because it's loading some dictionary on every show?
is there a way to reset it ?
I haven't had that issue at all. Very fast for me. What see you trying to use it in? Was there a specific app this happens in?

happens in multiple apps. it sort of creeped up after 1.5 months of heavy use. actually it's about 2-3 seconds delay.. hope i don't have to reset my phone to get rid of it..

The keyboard is not as good as the real Swype. It doesn't detect when your swiping is unintentionally off target. I had to download the real Swype keyboard to get comfortable again.

What I mean is, the stock keyboard also allows typing by simply sliding a finger from the first letter of a word to its last letter, just like Swype. But the stock keyboard is not as good in predicting the word you intend to type.

You could try the Swype off the Play Store, I believe it's on sale for $1.
Or swiftkey, both are great
