[Q] CM7.0 RC4 Aria Problems - HTC Aria Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running CM7.0 RC4 on my HTC Aria and I cannot access my SIM contacts. Also, I am using the shuffle tone app and with or without it, the phone doesn't ring. I only get notifications. Any help?

All later CM ROMs have a default that prevents them from reading or writing to the SIM card - it just isn't recognized.

Cyanogenmod cannot read the SIM card contacts. You can either store them into internal memory or on Google Contacts. However your SIM contacts are still on the SIM card, so if you need to get to them you can plug your SIM into another phone or revert your phone to a Sense ROM that can read the SIM card.
As for the phone not ringing, that is not normal. Do you mean you don't receive calls at all, or that you receive calls but the phone doesn't play a ringtone?

I believe this is true for all CM ROMs, not just "later" ones.

I seem to recall that CM6 ROMs could read from the SIM card... (e.g., CM6.1.1).
But maybe I'm just not remembering correctly.

Like the previous poster said, any ROM can work without any SIM card inserted as a wifi-only device. However, I'm not sure if it's possible to disable the ability to make emergency (911) calls. That may be an issue for you depending on the age of the kid.
You could put it in airplane mode and then turn the Wi-Fi back on. I know for sure this works in CyanogenMod 7.2 I'm not sure about other ROMs.

I have CM9 on my Aria with an inactive SIM card in it (I recently got a new device and new SIM card). I have airplane mode and wifi always turned on. Never ran into a problem and no emergency calls can be placed (I believe).
Simply delete phone.apk
Thanks for the ideas
I gave this phone to my daughter and she uses it on WiFi only with sim card removed. She uses textplus to text over WiFi. Anyone have preference of WiFi texting app?

Google Voice will let you text from a normal looking phone number (unlike textPlus).

[Q] S3 can NOT receive SMS but can receive MMS

Yesterday early in the morning my S3 stopped receiving SMS messages. I can send them just fine and I can send and receive MMS. The phone works just fine for calls and the data is working on mobile and also on wi-fi just fine. The only problem I am having is the SMS all of a sudden just stopped working.
I have the S3 I9300 and am using it on the AT&T network. Ive had it for 6 months now without any issues or problems. Its the stock firmware running on it and the device is not rooted/modded/etc..
Any ideas?

Had the same problem over the weekend. I fixed this by checking the message center #, mine was blank. So I did some research and found my carrier msg center # and after that it started working immediately.
Make sure you send a msg to yourself first to initialize it.
Gl and hope it gets fixed.

Still no luck..
This just happened to me for the second time with 2 weeks. It usually is fixed by a rom reinstall. I have yet to find the cause. Both times I have been running crDroid 11. Maybe i have to try another rom?
Could anybody shed any light as to why this happens?
Take your phone and get them to cut you a new Sim card. I had the exact same situation. Got a new sim and it was fine

I'm having the same issue. My messaging center number was correct and I was able to receive data, make phone calls and receive MMS. The last time I had AT&T remove and re-add my messaging plan. A few minutes later all my backed up messages came in. I'm suspecting it might be when I updated my rom (Wanam ZSEMA). I noticed I have not received any sms since the day I updated the rom.
So take that for what it is worth.
Problem is back after a week. Back on my Captivate. Hoping there is something someone knows that is a fix.

Cannot get SMS, but can send SMS. Can send and receive MMS.
I have already done the PLR reset, and the factory reset at a Sprint repair center, with no luck. Cannot get SMS, but can send SMS. Can send and receive MMS. This has been going on a month.

Although I had deleted GOOGLE VOICE before the factory reset, a woman in Sprint Tech said that she could see Google Voice on her end. She removed, I restarted, she called me on the office phone and after a few tests, text messages was working again. Problem solved.

Preferred SIM toggle not persistent

Hi,
Having issues with setting preferred SIM on individual contacts? It seems to remember when I set SIM 2 for some time, but then everything just defaults back to SIM 1, regardless of which SIM that contact usually calls in on. All of my contacts are either on Google sync or Exchange sync.
Anyone else? I'm on stock ROM v1.72.
I have the exact same problem. Came here searching for a solution after two weeks ago I put a second SIM into my Z7 mini. Although I select SIM 2 as default communication card and I select the switch in all contacts to card 2 it stucks to card 1 and ignores all the settings. Only disabling card 1 lets me call with the second card.
In my case I have a Z7 mini with stock ROM 1.76
Has anyone found a solution for this?

Yes. Apparently one of the apps for my workplace insisted on synching all contacts every 24h. I fixed it by exporting all contacts to my Google account and the problem disappeared.

Not an option for me Actually I have to set card 1 and card 2 back and forth for every contact until I see that I'm calling with the proper card. Either that or disable one card, call and re-enable it and re-set all card configuration. Not the way it should be but...

[Q] Occasionally missing group MMS both before and after rooting/installing ViperOne

Prior to installing the ViperOne ROM I had an issue with missing occasional group MMS after updating the stock phone to 4.4.4 when the update came out in late January. I rooted the phone and flashed ViperOne without any difficulties (now running 4.3) hoping that in addition to getting the advantages of running a custom ROM I would no longer miss out on texts but this is still going on. I did a factory reset and full wipe prior to flashing the ROM. I've tried using different SMS apps still with the same issue. Basically some group MMS's go through while others don't and the only way to know is by checking the messages.att.net website where texts are backed up (i tried disabling this and it didn't work either). People have had a similar issue here -https://forums.att.com/t5/Android/HTC-One-M8-MMS-problem-since-4-4-4/td-p/4193100 - but since I'm now running a 5.0 ROM I thought I'd reach out here to see if anyone with an AT&T HTC One M8 has had issues missing group MMS.
Thanks
Having the same problem with my wife's stock phone. An additional problem she is also having: when she is on wifi, mms messages she does get don't download but do over the att data connection. Betting that's a seperate issue, but wanted to bring it up?
I'm having the same issue...getting annoying.

I am having the same issue. I am thinking of trying installing the 4.4.3 firmware on the phone again and testing it out, see if there are any issues. I love having lollipop, but missing group texts is more important to me than some cosmetic features. I will let you guys know how it goes!

In the case of your wife, MMS won't download over WiFi. It only downloads over Cellular Data so you have to use data to get MMS messages. Try going into the messages app settings and turn on the MMS auto-retrieve. Should fix the problem.

I've been having the same problem on my phone. I get regular texts fine, but sometimes i can't send or receive pictures via MMS. I've been trying to research this, and on some other forums, people think it has to do with the 4.4.4 software having issues that ATT won't acknowledge. It also looks like the problem has carried over to the new software version, according to some of the comments. One person even said it might have something to do with sending/receiving texts from people with iphones that have imessage turned on. This is all anecdotal, of course, I have seen no official answer from HTC/ATT/Google.
I'm thinking I'll install CM11 this weekend and see if that solves the problem.

Dual-SIM waiting time before call

Using two SIMs and having assigned the contacts to them there is a 5sec waiting time before the dialing starts (so you could choose the other number). This drives me crazy. Any way to get rid of that waiting time?
Setting-dual sim..- scroll to bottom, default call set your simcard

If you want to set the default sim to dial, read the answer above.
And if you're interested in having both the sim options displayed and want to just get rid of 5s waiting time, You should get latest MIUI 10 Global BETA 8.9.20.
I had that annoying waiting time on all previous builds. But after updating to 8.9.20 it is no longer there.

It is there. I was dialling numbers from a week old call log that's why it didn't show up the first time.
A quick google search shows that apparently this auto dialling is inbuilt "feature" that you can't turn off in MIUI.
Well, I guess for me that will be the reason to go the unlock/root/custom rom way in the near future.
So stupid!
I meant you can't turn off it in MIUI dialer app. My bad.
You can always use third-party dialers to get rid of auto dialling.
LOL, that didn't come to my mind ?
If anyone is interested: After a long search I settled with Dual SIM Selector Pro. Not a dialer, only a SIM card chooser. I can choose what SIM to use by google account.
