Yesterday early in the morning my S3 stopped receiving SMS messages. I can send them just fine and I can send and receive MMS. The phone works just fine for calls and the data is working on mobile and also on wi-fi just fine. The only problem I am having is the SMS all of a sudden just stopped working.
I have the S3 I9300 and am using it on the AT&T network. Ive had it for 6 months now without any issues or problems. Its the stock firmware running on it and the device is not rooted/modded/etc..
Any ideas?

Im assuming that requires a file browser?
On second look.. that looks like a path with periods seperating each step.. trying now.. I'll reply with results.

Had the same problem over the weekend. I fixed this by checking the message center #, mine was blank. So I did some research and found my carrier msg center # and after that it started working immediately.
Make sure you send a msg to yourself first to initialize it.
Gl and hope it gets fixed.

Still no luck..
This just happened to me for the second time with 2 weeks. It usually is fixed by a rom reinstall. I have yet to find the cause. Both times I have been running crDroid 11. Maybe i have to try another rom?
Could anybody shed any light as to why this happens?
Take your phone and get them to cut you a new Sim card. I had the exact same situation. Got a new sim and it was fine

I'm having the same issue. My messaging center number was correct and I was able to receive data, make phone calls and receive MMS. The last time I had AT&T remove and re-add my messaging plan. A few minutes later all my backed up messages came in. I'm suspecting it might be when I updated my rom (Wanam ZSEMA). I noticed I have not received any sms since the day I updated the rom.
So take that for what it is worth.
Problem is back after a week. Back on my Captivate. Hoping there is something someone knows that is a fix.

Cannot get SMS, but can send SMS. Can send and receive MMS.
I have already done the PLR reset, and the factory reset at a Sprint repair center, with no luck. Cannot get SMS, but can send SMS. Can send and receive MMS. This has been going on a month.

Although I had deleted GOOGLE VOICE before the factory reset, a woman in Sprint Tech said that she could see Google Voice on her end. She removed, I restarted, she called me on the office phone and after a few tests, text messages was working again. Problem solved.

Hi everyone, have a quick question. I flashed the UCLE2 ICS rom to my phone and was wondering why both the Wifi and 4g icons are on at the same time? According to my data usage, 4g isn't being used but the 4g icon still gets the orange bands indicating that it's being used. Should I reflash? Thanks!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
Yes try reflashing. That shouldn't be happening unless you're sending a mms or group sms.

I'm having this trouble on stock ICS, I've wiped since updating.
>> I solved my problem it was the AT&T messages app that I use for visual voicemail. I uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. I force quit it and it worked.
And also it happens when your sending or receiving mms

that is normal though...You cannot do mms over WiFi, so it turns on cell data to send/receive them then switches it off.
AT&T messages and AT&T visual voicemail both only use network data connections. They do not use WiFi at all, so if you're getting a new message or voicemail in the background, your 4g icon will appear even if you have WiFi on.

I meant constantly with the AT&T Messages app. I force close and relaunch it and I'm good then. 4G notification turns off.
The AT&T Messages app is a replacement app for SMS, MMS, Call Log, Voicemail/Visual Voicemail.
That shows you that on wifi your cellular/data modem is on standby ready to receive the mms or vvm. Having the icon showing doesn't mean it is using your data allowance.
You can put phone in airplane mode then turn wifi on. You won't see the 4g icon, but you won't receive any mms or vvm's.
Does anyone knows the apn settings to get MMS working on Straight Talk for the Vzn DNA?
Thanks

Anyone ever figure this out? I'm using ST on AT&T and can't get MMS working AT ALL. Everything else works perfectly, calls, SMS, internet, GPS, etc...everything...except MMS.

MMS on att is a pita anyways, I don't think anyone got it to reliably work on a DNA, hope I'm wrong, though. Have you tried with gosms and setting the APN there also?

GO SMS half ass works. When I send a picture it gets to them as a link and I can't receive pictures through them. So that's a no go.

Does anyone know why my APN Type settings won't save? It keeps reverting to "default, hipri" when I change it to "default, supl, mms". I'm saving properly and all the other settings stay the same. Might be my issue..

I think it needs to use the carrier APN that you use, so maybe try T-Mobile or at&t settings, which ever carrier you're using on straight talk. It won't persist through reboots if you're stock, though.

I am on beans build 20 and just today I cant send any sms or mms messages. I tried another app too (gosms) I can get on the Internet just fine (im posting this via lte so I know I have data) anytime I go to send a message it says that the service is un available and the message will sent when the service becomes available. I need to try and fix this. Heres what ive tried so far.
Re flashing the modem
Tried a different rom (carbon everything kept force closing so I couldn't try a message)
And finally restoring a backup of beans
Nothing of those worked.
Heres what my about phone says.

hey bro, word of advice, I'd edit iut your number in that screen shot
Thanks bro. I missed that.
Well it just started working again. Maybe it was on Verizons end? But family members in the same room as me were able to send texts just fine during the time I couldn't.
Prior to installing the ViperOne ROM I had an issue with missing occasional group MMS after updating the stock phone to 4.4.4 when the update came out in late January. I rooted the phone and flashed ViperOne without any difficulties (now running 4.3) hoping that in addition to getting the advantages of running a custom ROM I would no longer miss out on texts but this is still going on. I did a factory reset and full wipe prior to flashing the ROM. I've tried using different SMS apps still with the same issue. Basically some group MMS's go through while others don't and the only way to know is by checking the messages.att.net website where texts are backed up (i tried disabling this and it didn't work either). People have had a similar issue here -https://forums.att.com/t5/Android/HTC-One-M8-MMS-problem-since-4-4-4/td-p/4193100 - but since I'm now running a 5.0 ROM I thought I'd reach out here to see if anyone with an AT&T HTC One M8 has had issues missing group MMS.
Thanks
Having the same problem with my wife's stock phone. An additional problem she is also having: when she is on wifi, mms messages she does get don't download but do over the att data connection. Betting that's a seperate issue, but wanted to bring it up?
I'm having the same issue...getting annoying.

I am having the same issue. I am thinking of trying installing the 4.4.3 firmware on the phone again and testing it out, see if there are any issues. I love having lollipop, but missing group texts is more important to me than some cosmetic features. I will let you guys know how it goes!

In the case of your wife, MMS won't download over WiFi. It only downloads over Cellular Data so you have to use data to get MMS messages. Try going into the messages app settings and turn on the MMS auto-retrieve. Should fix the problem.

I've been having the same problem on my phone. I get regular texts fine, but sometimes i can't send or receive pictures via MMS. I've been trying to research this, and on some other forums, people think it has to do with the 4.4.4 software having issues that ATT won't acknowledge. It also looks like the problem has carried over to the new software version, according to some of the comments. One person even said it might have something to do with sending/receiving texts from people with iphones that have imessage turned on. This is all anecdotal, of course, I have seen no official answer from HTC/ATT/Google.
I'm thinking I'll install CM11 this weekend and see if that solves the problem.
Unlocked Note 8 on Verizon, I'm getting the same issue as S8/S8+ users. No comment from Samsung as of right now on the situation, just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue as me? I haven't noticed any sort of pattern, just missing many texts from both single and group chats, and it doesn't matter the app. I just noticed today I am missing calls as well. The S8/S8+ issue is on all carriers and unlocked. Anyone else not getting their calls or texts? What model and carrier are you on?
I've had random voice mail, but one time I know of.

I'm having the same issue. I have a Note 8, unlocked, running on T-Mobile using the default Samsung messages app. I keep missing occasional texts from my wife's iPhone 7 and have now even missed a phone call or two. It seems to be random as some messages go through just fine while others don't. When testing at home, I can't get the problem to replicate itself. The iMessage issue doesn't apply to me as I haven't been on an iPhone in over a year and have received texts just fine until now. I had wifi calling turned on, but have since turned it off and that hasn't helped. I was using Google Messenger for a short time, but the missing texts are while I'm on the Samsung Messenger. I've changed the default text app off for Samsung Text and back on to see if that helps as some people have mentioned it. So far (last couple days), it seems to be okay, but since it's a random thing, it will take time to know for sure if it's fixed. Really frustrating as text is such a basic phone component and honestly I use it far more than making phone calls so Samsung needs to fix this ASAP.
I had issues when I had Advanced messaging turned on, it caused all kinds of issues for me. Mms wouldnt load, messages took forever to send. I turned it off issues gone. Not saying that is whats causing your issues but try turning it off in message settings see if that helps.

Yes I'm having this problem, missing texts mostly from my gf. I was Google messenger now back on default Samsung messenger seeing if that helps. I'll contact Samsung today. I went through my carrier troubleshooting (cricket) and I don't think it's them. Never had a problem on my s7 edge. Fyi have an unlocked note 8 from best buy
I tried switching from global to LTE/CDMA and I just found out I had a missed text from my boss this morning. This is not cool. Please can anyone help?
Are your messaging apps battery optimized/dozed? I would double check that.
