I posted this over in one of the other forums - so forgive me if you're reading this twice - but I'm now getting lag in places I wasn't with Honeycomb...
Here is my OP in its entirety:
First of all, I was getting this error constantly in Honeycomb - I kept thinking: "Wait for ICS - maybe it'll clear it up." Well, I updated to ICS last night and about 10 minutes later:

Next, here's a picture of the lag in the settings screen. I was looking at the battery stats, and then pressed the "Apps" button to check that screen out. After a few seconds, I decided to snap a screenshot. Now, it didn't take minutes to switch screens, but enough time passed that I was able to think: "Hmm, this is taking a while, lemme snap a picture." And let me note - this did not happen just once, but a few times as I was going through the different sections of the Settings:
Before all this, I decided to see how my space was being allocated. As the screenshots show, I have practically NOTHING on this tab - this screen should load near instantaneously - instead, it took me over 3 full minutes:
Next, I open up my gallery app - filled with a whopping 9 screenshots! Again, its not like minutes past, but enough time for me to think it was taking too long:
The largest image currently in my gallery is about 550kb (so half a megabyte - maybe that's what slowed it down.......)
Finally - and I fully admit this might be because the app hasn't been updated yet - but where gReader worked fine in Honeycomb, it doesn't seem to want to download articles anymore. I started syncing before my shower this morning (about 6:55 am) - Since it had only downloaded 6 (out of 127) articles by 7:38, I decided to cancel the sync:
After which, I had to reopen and close the app 3 times to get that pesky little "downloading" arrow in the bottom right to finally stop moving (which is visible in every single screen shot above as well - so I'm not kidding - I had been syncing only my unread articles for over 40 minutes on WiFi):
Luckily, Reader HD and Google Currents both downloaded data, so at least I had something to read on the train - but with both of those apps, swiping to the next article was laggy (where it was smooth on Honeycomb). At one point, I even swiped and the screen got stuck in Google Currents (this is new to ICS as well):
All in all, this is a pretty major step back for me...
- I now have lag in swiping between pages of articles in any reader app I'm using (although I haven't tested the Kindle app yet);
- Closing apps from the multitask screen is a little laggy - sometimes the app will get stuck mid-swipe for a few seconds before it disappears off of the screen
- GPS is still completely non-existent for me (I've never had a lock on a single satellite, let alone the 4-5 a lot of people seem to be able to get)
- Besides the lag in the apps, I'm now getting it in the native OS sections (like settings)
I have until February 3rd to return this thing - and I'm starting to get a pit in my stomach that I made a really bad decision in buying it... What happens when I load this thing with more than the 2 measly GBs of apps and data I have on there now?
EDIT - Just to note - I've done the hard reset twice since I updated last night - my next step will be to do a full factory reset (which I'm not really happy about - but I want to cover all the bases)...
I've tried just about everything you've posted and it was all super fast on my prime. I would do a factory reset just in case.
Try deleting cache and data from the apps.

I was also getting the warning about android.process.media in HC and have seen it once since ICS. Everything else has been snappy as hell though. Not sure what to make of it.
Reboot, that fixed the lag for me.
I too was having a very laggy experience last night/this morning. I finally resorted to doing a factory reset in hopes this would clear things up...it did!!! Everything is fast/smooth. I would try that and see if it clears things up for you as well.
I notice that you're downloading during all of these screenshots. When I first updated to ICS, the first thing I did was update 11 apps from the Market. While downloading/installing the updates, the Prime was very slow, even on Performance mode. Once the downloads/installs finished, it went back to being uber-snappy.
It displayed the same behavior on HC for me, fwiw.
I'm also getting the android.media.process error.
Here's betting a full factory reset will fix the problems.

I'm actually just downloading some articles for gReader - nothing more. That was another issue of mine - gReader took 40 minutes to download 6/127 articles - I had to close it, reopen it (and repeat) in order to stop the downloads.
Before I took some of the screenshots, I had already actually cancelled the downloads - but couldn't get the arrow to stop until I opened the app back up and shut it down a few times...
EDIT - Even after the downloads finally stopped (as seen in the last screenshot) - I was still experiencing the same thing...
Looks like a factory reset after work it is - boy - what a pain in the butt that is...
didn't get any of those issues..everything is much smoother now with ICS...
I'll finally be getting off of work shortly - I'll do the factory reset when I get home. Any suggestions before I do so (things to look out for)?
Here's another interesting tid-bit - I just did another hard-reset (kept getting that android.process.media error) - and after I did so, I checked the App settings and saw this (of course, right after I cleared the android.process.media error that popped up immediately after I entered my PIN):
It originally started at around 374MB used - and then steadily crept up. Seriously? Does the OS take up this much RAM? (And if you're wondering - I'm in "balanced" mode.)
Oh, and a funny thing happened when I tried to take the first screenshot...
Come on...seriously? The thing was on for LITERALLY 2 minutes and I got this error twice!
=-/
Android is designed to fill available memory with apps it thinks you will use and close them when it needs more memory, so its using it up by design not because of being poorly managed.
Mine lagged until I reboot and let the update settle for about 30 mins, so far it screams and I don't have the android.media errors....
Have you tried to find the app in settings and clear its data?

What app? How would I know? (No sarcasm - I'm new to Android so I'm not really sure where else to look for running apps other than in the "Running" section of "Apps" under settings).
I didn't even get the chance to run a single app after a hard reset and I'm getting the error (multiple times)...
I'm home now - and since I barely have anything on this tablet anyway, I'm just going to do a full factory reset.
If Android needs some time to settle after a major update, I suppose I could let it sit for 30 minutes or so before I pull the ICS update on the factory reset unit...
Well, I went ahead an did a factory reset last night - and then another after I was experiencing the same problems (this time I didn't "restore" from my Google account).
Seems the TP can't handle things like: browsing the Android market whilst downloading Angry Birds. I thought the quad core was good at multi-tasking - but if this thing lags and stutters while you're downloading a single app - even making the market become non-responsive during the download of a single file, then it's just not the tablet for me.
I gave it a shot - it's going back to Amazon.

I too was getting that weird android. ....media message,
And I figure maybe one of my apps were incompatible,
so I did a factory reset. And I'm glad I did, everything feels so much better afterwards. Keep in mind this is a major update, obviously there'd be some incompatibility with the apps and setting you have on your device. I kinda sucks having to reinstall all the apps again, but in reality its really not that difficult, there are many apps that can help you restore all your backup apps. And also, this is the first release of ICS on prime, nothing is perfect on the first release, there are ought to be bugs that needs to be squashed. And I'm sure it will only get better and better. You still got a good 3 weeks before the return period, who knows, Asus might have an update before that.
Mine was extremely laggy after upgrade. I left it alone for 30 minutes and rebooted. Came back smooth as butter.

You know - I did give it a shot - but I don't think I should have to wait for my $600 tablet to "settle" for 30 minutes before I can use it. It's a quadcore - it SHOULD be the fastest, least laggy tablet out there. That's just not the case.
I'll just see what else CES and the next couple of months have to offer - I'm not really in a hurry. I just jumped on this because, spec-wise, it SHOULD be the best tablet on the market (by far). If I'm getting lag while downloading a single app from the marketplace, then I don't think it'll get "better" as time rolls on...
Couple that with the non-existent GPS, I'm really left with nothing more than a Kindle Fire (with the same performance level).

That's true, but that's why you have a quadcore, no? So it can do more than one thing at once?

Having to wait for 30 minutes after a major update of the OS is no big deal, and doesn't sound far fetched.
It's not like you have to wait 30 minutes each time you reboot, just once, then everything should be very fast all the time.
You're saying that the performance of the tablet is not what it should be, but you should understand that you most likely have a faulty unit, and that most people don't have any performance problems like you do.
Still, feel free to return it and wait for the next big thing, hopefully you won't get a faulty unit then, or you're bound to wait quite a while

Since it appears this is limited to not very many people based off of how many people have responded to the thread I am assuming I am in the minority with the lockups so I just wanted to run a poll to get a better idea of the numbers we are dealing with here.....
Everything works just great for me with the new ICS update, maybe you should do a factory reset.

Confirmed someone did a complete wipe and still having the problem all signs point to Hardware my worst fear.
I was having some lagg in the market and in netflix, setting that GPU rendering (checked) option fixed it.
I have also read that it fixes the horizontal lines glitch some were having. Let me know if it seems to help.
(it is unchecked as default)

so far so good but even if this works I want to know why my prime doesn't work normally
got a reply from asus development he said it looks like Linux stability issue and needs another log.
Starting to look more widespread then I thought why is no one complaining anymore? GPS wear you out? :
I have a nice steamy log for them if needed.
Hope you get your prime sorted out.
Never rooted, no dev settings checked, and yeah it's rebooting a lot. Seems random and happens more as the battery go's down. (but only have had one day to test it)
In the last hour it's rebooted more than 10 times.
everything running great since update to ICS.
Just received my new one yesterday evening and everything works great. I am rooted on 4.0.3!
Updated my prime last night and it constantly reboots.
Most times it will reboot at the Asus boot animation. Sometimes it will make it into android and I can see a camera firmware update. I usually only get to play around for a few minutes before it crashes.
Going to call ASUS today if I can't figure anything out.

I had no initial issues after ICS, but didn't get much time to play with it due to work. Started getting the banding across my screen, tried a factory reset, transitions off, 2D rendering, etc none of it fixed the issue. Also have google + disabled as that was another thing people thought would work.
Tried individually and all together.
Then the banding has turned into lots of lock ups and reboots, about a dozen yesterday when clicking into different things, settings, various apps (facebook, maps, email, etc).
Only got it last Wednesday by delivery from BB, dock coming today. No issues with HC, figure I will wait it out until next tuesday and see if other updates happen. Maybe the local BB will have them in for exchange by then too. I like the tablet, I had a good one with HC (wifi/bt worked, gps 50/50 but I use my EVO3D for that).

This is GPS all over again but worse did ASUS really use different hardware in our Primes? Its starting to look like we have something different about the hardware so this is just another jaw dropping moment "wow asus really" first the backplate and now this ****.... unbelievable
I haven't had any freezes or reboots since updating. I did see the black line screen issue right after it booted from updating, but haven't seen that since.
Tried factory reset through the settings menu, tried factory reset using the the volume and power on combo, tried multiple resets in a row (not sure why, but I'm desperate), tried disabling g+, tried with no google account and no apps installed. Still the same.
I'm done. Time to RMA I guess.
Good Day,
For those users who are suffering from the "Random Lockup or Screen Corruption" problem after the ICS update we are currently finalizing our replication efforts along with a final fix. We have identified two issues that could potentially cause this problem and will start contacting a subset of users who have already reported the problem for further testing and system level information.
Issue -
1. System might randomly lockup or generate a blind screen effect after the ICS update. I have received a few reported cases matching this behavior and we will be in contact with most of you in the near future.
a. If we do not contact you directly, it does not mean we are not working on this problem. I have read all the messages and randomly selected a couple of users for further contact. We will have a fix for this problem shortly.
Sincerely,
Gary
1/18/12 Update - We will continue to contact additional users over the next two days. We are in the process of qualifying a fix now and are awaiting a system return to verify this fix with our partners shortly.
1/19/12 Update - The ICS 9.4.2.11 update being rolled out now addresses the horizontal line and random signal line issues after the initial ICS load. It also addresses poor video playback (especially YouTube), however if you still have the YouTube corruption problem after this update, please uninstall then reinstall Flash from the app market. This patch also addresses the random reboot problem after the ICS update but we still have another patch that is in qualification testing at NVIDIA to fully solve these problems.
1/22/12 Update - I will provide an update tomorrow on our new Customer Service Support program for the Transformer Prime and additional forum support that will be coming in the very near future. In addition, I expect an update from engineering and NVIDIA shortly on the random lockup problem after the ICS update.
1/23/12 Update - Replication testing is still in process and I do not have an update to provide yet. We will provide a customer support hotline and direct email address shortly for users suffering with this problem. In the meantime, we will start another series of direct communication between our service/engineering group and selected users for additional testing.
1/25/12 Update - We are working on two different solutions now and hope to have a fix available in early February. One option to try is to revert back to the last Honeycomb image through the manual update process, set the unit power mode to balanced performance and screen brightness manually to 50%, and then manually update to the latest ICS build using these instructions - http://service.asus.com/TF201_fwupdate. You will need a fully charged battery and have the system plugged into AC power. This worked on a couple of returned units but not on all units. Only try this procedure if you are comfortable with flashing a new ROM image and want to take the time to complete each process.
1/31/12 Update - We are now testing a firmware and driver update. I will provide an update once initial alpha testing is completed.
2/1/12 Update - We received new code from NVIDIA today and are in the process of testing it. If this code is acceptable and provides a solution to the lock/reboot problem after the ICS update, we will release it in beta form for additional testing with users suffering from this problem before implementing it in the next OTA update. I should have an answer in two days if we can release the current patch code.
2/7/12 Update - We received another new code update from NVIDIA for testing today. Hopefully we will be able to release a beta patch or OTA update shortly. I will have an update after testing is completed tomorrow.
2/8/12 Update - We plan on releasing a new OTA update with revised firmware and code to solve the random lockup/reboot problem early next week.
2/8/12 Update - We pushed 9.4.2.13 US early to address the random lock and reboot issues plus you might see general improvements in performance including WiFi and maybe even aGPS.
9.4.2.13 Release Notes -
1. Fix Random Reboot / Lockup Problem (100% success in regression testing with returned units, hopefully the same in the community)
2. Enable Google WideVine video rental in the US
3. General Performance Enhancements
4. New WiFi Firmware (there might be improvements in WiFi performance or lock capabilities, still working on the WiFi/BT dropout fix that will not be assisted by the WiFi/GPS firmware updates) (Edited for clarification)
2/23/12 Update - We will release the .15 Firmware update in the very near future. To date, 100% success with the beta testers whom I thank profusely not to mention a very smart engineer at HQ.
Just a reminder, for those I or engineering did not contact directly yet about this problem, it does not mean we are ignoring your problem. We have read all the messages so please do not be upset if we have not contacted you yet.
3/6/2012 Update:
I am back and will start answering messages.
Thats great news! Thank You for your help Gary!
Thanks for the update!

So does this mean it is a software problem and will be fixed through an update? I'm still not sure if I want to send in my tablet, but based on the news it kind of sounds like it will be fixed with an OTA update.
Based on my VERY little experience with this tablet, it seems that the lockups only occur while I am in high performance mode. The balanced setting gives me no problems as of right now, compared to substantial lockups with high performance. Anyone else have similar results?

Most of the people who've responded in the original thread have said that it either happens A.) randomly, B.) when something "high performance" is going on, or C.) "usually" when trying to use the browser. In nearly all cases, the tablet was working just fine in Honeycomb.
Various users have been able to replicate the issue within certain applications, seemingly narrowing it down, though still others have different experiences. There seem to be two common veins of this problem - the very frequent lockup/reboots, often accompanied with freezing on boot, and the more sinister infrequent lockup/reboots.
For more info, check out the doc in my signature or the original (and lengthy) thread here.

Two issues? Care to explain? Two potential hardware problems? We know anything and everything no matter what and when your doing something the lockup can happen so I would love to know what you mean by "two issues that could potentially cause this problem"
Unfortunately, I am having the problem with freezing/locking up and subsequent rebooting since I upgraded to ICS (never rooted).
While going to "power saving" mode seems to lengthen the time between freeze-reboots, it does not eliminate them.
I have a few days left before I'll need to return this to the retailer for a refund...and am trying to decide what to do. If it is a simple software/firmware fix, that's great...but if I need a whole new tablet, I guess I might as well return this one for a refund.
Thoughts?
And: Gary, thanks for your help to all of us!
Good that you are aware of this problem with the freezes and the pad does not respond to touch.
And this is what I like about asus. That they work closely with customers. And bring updates
Coming from a Samsung Galaxy Tab. And there was never any updates or support. Was always left out in the dark.
So those who complain that they do not receive updates should take a look at how things look for other brands.
I've read through a lot of posts and would like to repond with my own analyzing effort
First of all, no issues when I've had HC. After upgrading to ICS, the reboots started immidiatly. I've it on the following (some times):
1. Browser: Random crashes when surfing
2. WakeUp: When putting the screen off and waking it up. On first keypress in a app or(not that much on homescreen) it will lockup and reboot after a few seconds.
I must say in the first couple of days the reboots where constantly happening on above 2 scenarios, after almost a week now, the problem is much less. I do have reboots, but it is definitly not going over and over.
I think it is a combination of ICS and Asus Drivers. It would be weird if it is a hardware problem as there are no issues at all in HC. As the amount of reboots are affecting a lot of users, it puzzles me why Asus isn't able to reproduce it themselves
But ok. Love the tablet, but they will need to resolve these issues. First GPS, then Wifi and now this... I don't think a lot of people can handle more
I posted this in the other thread about locking up primes, but figured I would post it in here as well. If it's not necessary, please delete it. Anyways, here it goes.
I have one of the newer primes, and ever since the ics update to 4.0.3 it's been randomly rebooting. I also notice i get the android.process.media error quite a bit. At first I thought it was the asus stuff not playing well with ics, so i turned as much of it off as I could. That seemed to calm down the weird graphics glitch where it would freeze then when you'd press the home softkey, the screen would instantly blank unreadable, looks like when you halfway unplug a vga cable or something. Once you reboot, it comes back fine. Now I'm just getting random reboots.
Seems to occur shortly after the android.process.media fc's. I was playing with androidvnc just now and twice it rebooted. Going to try the force gpu rendering first, and if that doesn't work, I'll try to flash the zip. Here's the key info. I also notice when I have wifi off and it's chilling in my bag, it stays just fine. I know by checking the uptime. But as soon as I turn wifi on and start messing with it, it can run from 2 minutes to 2 hours then I get a reboot. Very random. Will report back on the gpu rendering and the zip to see how it goes. Honestly it looks like it's stuttering right before it locks up. Almost like the processor isn't getting the voltage it needs, or bad memory. It's so hard to tell though.
Here's the fyi:
Never rooted
Worked perfectly on Honeycomb
Updated it the day the update came out to 4.0.3, and the camera firmware to tf201-0x9900

Gps - 6.8.13
Wifi - 6.1.1.17
bluetooth - 9.23
Kernel - 2.6.39.4
Build number - IML74K.US_epad-9.4.2.7-20120106
I'm seeing similar symptoms as everyone else but i dont recall seeing reports of the additional 'Upgrading Android' message that i seem to be seeing.
Below is the chain of events over about 6 hours since unboxing the tab.
Took delivery of device, powered on and configured wifi followed by upgrade to ICS 4.0.3 and camera firmware. After upgrade, verified everything was working then did a wipe of user data and cold boot (both done by restarting with volume down and power pressed)
Configured device again with basic settings to get online and used it for approx 1 hour of browsing with stock ICS browser before lockups started. Lockup occurs followed by a reboot about 20 seconds later. Balanced power mode is in use.
Lockups and reboot occuring frequently, probably no more than 10-15 minutes apart. Browser is most frequently in use at the time but I see the same symptoms in other apps.
After perhaps 3 hours of this lockup/reboot cycle the device restarted and stuck at the EEE Pad screen. I then reset using the pinhole. Device then entered a boot loop. It would restart at any time between the dots in a circle and occasionally the login screen but would lockup and reboot before i could unlock. During this reboot cycle i then saw a message saying 'Upgrading Android, Step 1 or 16' which then counted up to 16 and changed to 'Starting applications' but froze and rebooted. This 'upgrading' cycle occured several times. After a significant number of wipes, cold boots and pin hole resets the device now appears to boot although the lockup and reboot cycle continues when in use.
If i can help, pm me for any details you need.
Guys, let's wait for Garys response before badgering him. Just wait a little longer. Just hit the seven day mark since the ICS update.

So basically they don't know a damn thing. And no I won't give him or Asus any more time. As it is they showed that they simply can not handle releasing a product. I'm not giving Any benefit of the doubt because Asus has lied and pushed out a faulty product to all of us. im not Just talking about ics. this is crazy.
Just got my first reboots last night on 4.0.3 in performance mode while doing heavy surfing with the stock browser. First the browser instantly disappeared in the middle of what I was doing, then I got a reboot when I tried it again with all the same tabs open. It seems the stock browser has trouble rendering/navigating around the full desktop version of Facebook. It lags like crazy. Could it be the heavy PHP code that Facebook desktop site is written in is making the Tegra 3 flip out/overheat?
I remain hopeful that Gary Key's crew at ASUS can replicate the problem and fix it.

I didn't have a single lockup since upgrading to ICS until last night, however last night I was really putting my Prime through its paces. Bluetooth streaming audio, wifi on, several tabs open in the browser and I was surfing constantly. Like I edited into my previous post, I think the Facebook desktop site and the stock 4.0.3 browser do not get along very well. I don't have my Prime on me now, but when I get home this evening I'll stress test a different browser like Dolphin HD...
All of my lag appears to be in the browser. If I go into about:debug and turn on "Normal Rendering" it improves somewhat. 3rd party browsers such as "ICS Browser Plus" do not experience this issue as much, although it does somewhat.
Lag and freezing is especially noticeable when flash video is involved, although Adobe just released an update --here's hoping that improves something.

Besides the fact, that PHP is server side scripting and has nothing to do with the Prime, I too experience difficulties with the Facebook main page and resulting lock-ups/reboots. I'm really torn between waiting for a fix and driving to the RMA site, which is close by my hometown here in Germany, to hand the Prime in.
The frustrating experience for me is, that I'm not using the browser that often to surf around facebook, but I really rely on gBrowser to read the news on my commute and this also leads to reboots. Do I have to go back to a single newspaper now?
Btw. I've written my Prime's details into the datasheet that flies around here.

This doesn't sound like the same lockup issue. Did your screen freeze on whatever current screen it was on for 10 seconds and then reboot?
After updating this morning to .15, I just got the random reboot since before the .13 update. Using ICS+ browser.
Am I the only one? This sucks. Gary Key, I've already sent you a PM.
Please don't fill this thread stating .15 is working perfectly for you. I already know it is working well for most people.
How many reboots?
In over 48 hours I have had only 1 reboot and I believe it was my fault. I was using the stock browser and was trying to do too much at once and not letting it catch up.
If your having multiple reboots that is a different story.
Just one thus far. How can any reboot be "your fault"?

Really guy, you created a thread because of one reboot??? An issue would be if you had constant reboots, not just one. Every tablet I have owned rebooted now an then, it happens. Now lets see all the 'me toos' pop up now.
after the update gta3 doesnt work for me anymore anyone has the same issue. I clear data then uninstall and reinstall the apk nothing. It will work all the way up until the load is almost finish and it gets stuck on the load screen. Freaking A
update: now Age of Zombies lets me play for a while and then its goes black and restarts the game. WTF before the update it did not do this!
Going to restart the tablet and hope this fixes whatever is going on
update 2: looks like that solved it thank god,
so guys basic troubleshooting restart your devices and see if the problem continues

That's very good advice, you should always reboot after an update.
My prime started restarting when i had my xbox dongle in the USB slot today. Had about 5 reboots today. Never had a reboot before(well probably once every three/month).
One restart isnt something to be concerned about.
I have had one reboot since receiving the update yesterday.

I disagree, reboots are NOT normal, I had the Xoom since the day it was released till two weeks ago, and never had spontaneous reboots like the Prime does(I also had no issues with the Galaxy Tab, and the HTC Flyer.) App crashes, Apps not working till reboot are one thing but I am getting reboots on .15 when even trying to run Market updates. I have hard reset and had the market reload my apps and the problem came back the very next day. I just returned my unit to Frys since it was my last day in my return window. I also had a problem with the covers on the USB cable sliding off and if I plugged the charger upside-down I would get a slight shock from the back of the Prime.
They did not have any in stock to exchange, which might have been a blessing. I am going to wait and see how future shakes out before trying again.
My theory(unscientific) is the the Prime is using very slow NAND Flash memory for storage. I had the 64gb version and when writing to the storage it seems to take a lot longer than the Xoom. If I had 6 or 7 market updates on the Xoom it would take 30 to 40 seconds to download and install, the Prime would take 2 to 3 minutes(if it did not reboot itself before completing.). I would constantly get the Wait/Cancel prompt on the stock browser when a website was almost done loading, and writing cache to the NAND Flash.

I agree, while my desktop PC seems to average between 5 - 10 a year, my blackberry playbook has had none so devices that don't randomly reboot are possible to make. In truth, though I love the Prime it has had the most random reboots of any device I have.

My two year old PC has never had reboots, in applicaion crash on occasion. I think the key is the stability and quality of the components being used, and in this case ASUS is cutting corners to keep the price low. Look at the threads with peoples screens lifiting and dust under the screens.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Prime and I will probably get another when some of the issues get sorted out.

Its because of the Tegra3 i wouldnt call it cutting corners exactly however their quality control has been pretty terrible with the Primes.
I agree. Reboots are not normal. I have never had a single reboot on my desktop that I built or my laptop. The only time my phone has ever rebooted was due to a known issue with an ota, which is fixed. I NEVER had a reboot with my prime until. 15.

I am experiencing lots of reboots
I was watching a flash video in the browser when this started. The tablet kept on rebooting itself over 15 times in a row....i had to use a paper clip in order to reset it. tablet has about 15% of charge left when this started. I am not sure if it related. This issue never occurred until this last .15 update. Also i noticed now they have the application not responding dialog box appears when an application hangs "IMBD", however after you hit kill the application it doesn't do anything and the tablet reboot itself withing 10 sec. ASUS when are you going to be able to fix this?
No reboot so far for five days.

This. After I installed new flash update I keep rebooting when I play youtube video. Kept rebooting 3 times in a row. Won't go near youtube again until it is fixed. Happened in dolphin. Seems to happen every time.
I just installed AndroWook rom. I didn't want to, not really. I was hoping to never have to unlock my prime. But then there was the thread about performance, and the other one about users not being able to unlock. How could I possibly walk away from that kind of a challenge? So I downloaded it just to see if it would work. And it did. So then I had to install TWRP, and then I had to install a rom.
So I installed AndroWook with Motley 3.0.5 and all the tweeks it had to offer.
I didn't wipe, I cleared cache and dalvik. I have nearly 2 years of screwing around on an HTC desire, so I felt comfortable with this level of deleting. Everything booted up properly, no apps were missing and everything (as of now) is working at least as well as before.
Then came the big test. The one that annoys me more then anything else. Copying a file from a USB thumb drive to internal memory. It usually takes 10 times as long as my windows PC does. So I plugged in the drive and copied a 250mb file. It took all of 20 seconds (I didn't really time, but it was MUCH faster). My jaw dropped.
I'm sold. ASUS has no clue what they're doing. This thing is great. I can copy files to the internal storage without staring at the percentage copying 10, then stoping, 12, stop, 15, stop, 20... This time it went smoothly from 0 to 100%.
If you haven't unlocked your device, you're missing out.
Appreciate the oppinion. Would like to hear more from your experiences with custom firmware as I'm also very unsatisfied with stock rom.

Well I've been up for about 2 hours now, and while I'm not sure if it 'feels' a lot of faster, but I haven't had screen tear issues. I'll keep running this rom for at least a week and I'll update if anything changes. If there's anything you'd like me to test (as long as it is free or I already have it) let me know!
Parastie, you sound just like me almost. I've been twitching at all these challenges being presented before me. Failed unlocks, failed roots, better performance. How I've managed to resist unlocking so far is beyond me. My poor desire s didn't last so long, its been flashed so many times I don't think it knows what kind of device it even is anymore.
So you say file transfer is slow on stock, eh? I must witness this. Might be the straw that breaks the camels back for me. The one last push to unlocking.

Welcome to the club!
So when you say copying from thumb drive to internal memory, you mean via the usb port on the dock right? (must be because I can't think of how else you would be doing it.)
The reason I ask is, I've been unlocked for a while, but haven't done any thumb drive to internal memory copying since I unlocked. I also found this unbelievably slow when running stock though (and all the starting and stopping made me think WTF???)
Gotta try it out tonight.

Yeah the copying to internal memory was the most annoying. Slow as dirt, it makes putting HD movies on this thing impossible. I've only tried one file, but I'm going to try another large file when I get some time.
Also note, screen tearing still happens. I got it to stop by locking the screen for a few seconds, but that's still an issue.

Anyone know if handwriting notetaking is better with any custom roms? My biggest problem with the prime has been how bad the digitizer seems to be (as in trying to draw a diagonal line the prime makes a crazy wavy line). Touchscreen tune helps but doesn't fully fix the problem.
Not sure if this is something a ROM can really fix or not.
It does help some, I can tell the difference in a well performing rom by using handwriting apps. The handwriting apps when a rom is slow or sluggish don't keep up, kind of like an underpowered android phone and keyboard lag. But when performing properly, the handwriting is more accurate and keeps up with the stylus or finger, in my experiences.
Without seeing your problem, I can't say if it's because of your software and/or configuration, or if it's some very strange hardware problem that software can't fix. But I can tell you that typically a tablets performance overall greatly affects how things react to the touch screen and how the graphics render.

Can you please either confirm or contradict one thing: I had a battery drain issue. For example before going to bed the tablet was docked and both batteries almost full, in the morning - dock battery flat, tablet - half empty. SystemPanel suggested it's a Facebook app and, miracle, as soon as I deleted the app I haven't seen leaks anymore.
This's a bit strange because this app has never caused drain issues before. Syncing and notifications were disabled.

I won't defend asus as far a knowing what they are doing but I have never used a stock mobile device that could not be drastically improved by dedicated developers. The hardware companies are only focused on a product as long as it takes to hit a shelf and then by and large you are on your own. Thats why this is the best site on the internet for non sheep type people.

if you want to keep the facebook app, try turning off wifi when you turn the tablet off before you go to bed. super easy with the dock and i've gotten in the habit of doing so myself. i see 1-2% battery drain on teh tablet overnight, and <1% on teh dock. you might also want to try setting wifi to not stay on during sleep by default in settings, but idk if a wakelock via facebook would fix this.
also, did you try clearing data and cache or restarting and it still did this? anyways, sorry to be so OT to the OP. PM me if you want to chat about this some more.
I also bit the bullet yesterday.
Unfortunately my experience was not so good...
1. Unlocked, installed TRWP, made backup (and titanium).
2. Wipe device.
3. Install Androwook.
4. Tried to restore Titanium backup on to find it will prompt you twice for every app (I was not going to do this for 150 odd apps).
5. Go back to recovery, wipe device, and restore backup (this 'only' took about 30 minutes...).
6. Reboot, took about 15 minutes to boot.
7. My home screen was messed up, none of my installed apps would run, only the apps included in ROM.
8. Go back to recovery, wipe again, and installed AndroWook again.
9. Spent the entire day downloading apps from the play store again.
During the last step, the poor tablet consistently froze and even had a random reboot. Play store ANR'd about 15 times...
Eventually had everything back installed, but all my 'user data' is lost (hopefully I can recover this with Titanium if needed).
To be honest. It does not really feel any different. No OOOOHH's and AAAAAHH's like everyone says.
So now I have 2 problems. A useless tablet and no bloody warranty.
To top this off, I discovered another dead pixel (white one, not so noticeable) yesterday.

Thats the only thing which is bugging me on the stock rom. Can others confirm this major improvement? Can anyone say what is responsible for this I/O enhancement? Is it the ROM (IO schedulers) or is it Motleys kernel?

Well screen tearing still happens here. Of course, I did not do a full wipe and I'm running Wook which is based on stock. It is possible that AOKP or CM9 would not have this problem. I was going for what most people said was the fastest. As far as day-to-day use goes, after a full day I don't really see a huge difference. It was great before, and it still is.

I suspect JB ROMs will be better at this as it bumps-up the CPU speed for user interactions.
Hi all. I am hoping you guys an help as I am about to go back to my Nexus 6 at this point. I got a 64gb Galaxy S6 edge shipped to me at the end of March. On the first day I activated it I got the pop up that there was a software update so I did that. Every single review I've read talk to how the lag is almost gone, no overheating issues, etc. I stayed away from Samsung for so long because TouchWiz completely destroyed the Android experience for me, causing intense lag and slow down. If there is anything I can't stand when using a smartphone it is lag. Anyway, it seemed to work ok at first but I quickly noticed that it would get extremely hot for absolutely no reason at all. It will also completely lag out for no reason. For example. I'll go to unlock the phone from the lock screen and the animation will show it was swiped but it will just sit there for up to 20 seconds before doing anything. Often it just goes back to a black screen and I have to press the home button to try and unlock it again. If I try to use Google Maps many times it just hangs there for what seems like forever before it will move forward to actually start the navigation process. Navigating between music apps is painstakingly slow. I have powered off the unit multiple times, closed all open apps multiple times, etc and it doesn't seem to do anything. It will work better for a short time and then does it again. When I try to launch the camera it is supposed to launch super fast. At times I just sit there and wait. It is extremely frustrating. The longest I've had it sit there and freeze or lag has been close to a minute.
It also always seems like it is reallllllly warm, even after just a short while of using it. Again, it isn't every time I use it but more like 70% of the time. It could be resting in my pocket and get really hot, for example. It makes no sense.
Is my unit boned, or is this a common issue? I asked my developer friend and he suggested I turn off animations, etc. but why would I need to do this? I bought the phone with some crazy octa-core processor and tons of memory so it should breeze through all of this like nothing. My Nexus 6 almost never had any lag whatsoever and I would really like to think this phone is capable of more than what it is doing right now.
Any suggestions you guys have are more than welcome. I really like the phone but am at the point where if I can't get this awful lag/hanging issues fixed it is going on eBay =(.
Thanks for your time .

Quick answer factory reset see if that helps if not take it back to the store
I have no lag at all
I do have Lookout Mobile Security enabled, but it is only using like 7MB of ram. That wouldn't be causing this would it? I checked online at forum sites and it doesn't appear as though it would.
My first (S6 not edge) was like that. Turned into a handwarmer, got so hot it was literally burning hot! Took it back to the TMO store. Manager could not believe how hot the phone was, the box was warm and the phone inside was like a hot potato! Still frozen on the white TMobile splash screen from where it locked and stayed for hours. The phone was never really right. Got it exchanged for an Edge and it has been problem free, hardware wise.
Sounds like you have a bad one.
The Nexus 6 is a good phone, was going to sell mine but I need it to work with Google-Fi.
As suggested above, I would try factory reset first. Mine is very responsive even in power savings mode. It's just fast. I leave animation on at the default 1x. Did you look to see which apps are running the CPU up?
before a factory reset, try to go into recovery mode and clear cache. I've found on the tmobile version that once i got into recovery mode it did something of a small update automatically (in reading the scripts) and that doing that and then clearing cache really helped my battery drain i was having- might fix your lag too.
Clearing cache and factory reset after the update stopped my lag.
The battery though, just sucks. I'm down to 35% in 6 hours with less than 30 minutes of use.
I'm missing my nexus 6 at the moment. I hope I didn't mess up buying this.

Guys I'm fairly certain this is just the typical 5.0.1 problem... I'm experiencing it too and factory wipes only fix temporarily.
Had same thing on my Moto X 2014 and went away with 5.1 update.

Hi there. Thanks for this tip. I went ahead and did this and it did a software update as soon as I went into recovery. I cleared out the cache as well and it seems to be much zippier now. What I have found with Samsung phones, though, is that usually they work fine for a few days and then end up going to hell. Thanks for your help and I will keep an eye on this. If it keeps ending up working poorly I will go back to the Nexus 6.

I really hope that's not the case since Samsung takes 10 times longer than any other OEM to update Android
Encountered a bit of lag again earlier. Cleared out cache again via recovery and resolved it. Definitely think I have a bum unit or something with this version of Android

I thought the main lollipop memory issue was tracked down to boot up animation and Touchwiz devices are not meant to have this, therefore the fix Google has made to stock devices has no bearing on Touchwiz. Basically the issues we have are Touchwiz related not Lollipop specific, though Samsung must be delighted as we all throw blame at Google it diverts blame.
One such bug is the*boot animation memory leak*bug which consumes greater amounts of memory during boot forcing the kernel to kill few process (might be core services as well) causing severe lags.*arter97*of XDA has found a work around for this issue and according to him*“the current Lollipop boot animation implementation does not releases the resources held to*playprevious frames”*which might be the root cause of the issue.
According to the developer’s research, almost all the devices (except for the Touchwiz based Samsung device) fall prey to this bug causing highly unstable UI.

Factory reset did it for me.
