Hey im considering flashing this as my first rom, but cant seem to find too definitely what does/doesn't work on this particular rom. Other than the list on the main post in dev section but i mean like bug wise is there anything major that has issues or isn't working at this moment? Other than the force close dialer(can you still make/receive calls??) is there any other things i should know before i flash this? Im currently stock rom/kernel just rooted. Just dont want to spend all the time flashing it and unlocking my bootloader to find out that the rom has serious issues that makes it unuseable for me. Im not too sure how you guys are about noobs/stupid questions posting in the dev section, so i just assumed that this is better suited for the Q&A. And correct me if im wrong, as im not quite positive, but i should be able to flash the cm7 rom and then the 1.3 OC kernel as well and have them both running? Is there one i need to flash before the other or how does that work?
This wouldnt be the rom to flash as it is still in alpha so it wont connect to any towers has bad battery life no dialer period. I would suggest flashing Jokers skinny rom for now its the most up to date and is running smooth for me

you can try alien rom .I had it running smoothly until i bricked my photon
I'm considering the homebase or alien, but they aren't running the latest OTA. What is the difference that the latest OTA did? i see no difference running stock rom.. And can anyone vouch to how the battery life is on roms as opposed to stock? Specifically one of the photon ones. Thanks for responses guys
The latest ota has many bug fixes and moto changed alot of their blur apps, which have made the phone faster. Homebase and alien are great but not up to date. I have a non stock rom called skinny which is made from the latest. In the end its up to you. My suggestion is to flash all three with no less than 24 hours on each to get a feel for it. Please keep in mind you wont be able to judge battery life this way

Go with Joker, that's just my two cents. Battery life is slight better from Joker to Home Base. Alien was okay, but Home Base had more tweaks then Alien. Then Joker has more stuff and is on the latest OTA from sprint, so that's what I'd personally suggest, plus it's the one I'm running.
I'm enjoying Joker's skinny Rom...it's current, and fast.

Great idea. I was looking for a rom but am lacking the time to research each and every thread and its posts to root out the good and bad of each. I was going to post and ask myself about a decent working rom with the most working functions and with little bugs. Hopefully those with time will give feedback and include ALL the info you requested in your OP for those of us lacking the free time.
There are so many now. I know some say "go search", but not all of us have the time to weed through all details in each post. Thanks again.

Yes Rocko has one it says locked in the title of the thread. Also imperium has a locked version. And a couple others alien and another one. I forget the name. Its older, but I think it says sudo in the name.

Hell, I have 4G where I live and I still unlocked. Wimax is worthless with the 2500mhz spectrum. It only works outside in the middle of the street when you're not moving.
I see little mention of them here, but the ICS builds that spleef,; Th3Bill, and Teqm Moto Tegra have put together based on Joker's CM9 are pretty nice, too. I'm running CNA right now and other than two items which do have work arounds (camera needs 3rd party app and browser is set to landscape only), they are very smooth and stable. I'm lovin me some ICS!!

I'm running spleef's AOKP build 36 and overall, everything works great! Very usable with only a few annoyances that I am sure will be fixed in time.
I need a ROM with a stable navigation app because I travel for work a lot. So far only the stock ROM works well enough for daily use. CM7, AOKP, and CM9 all exhibit strange behavior like spontaneous rebooting or switching back to Car Home repeatedly despite the navigation continuing to call turns.
CM9 and AOKP also don't seem to work with my car dock well, I can't get any sound to go through the AUX port. I also noticed that when I drove around SoCal for a while with any of the CM ROMs, the screen will blank when the phone got hot. I restored a stock rom and had no problems in the same situations. CM7 doesn't have any problems playing music through the dock but the unstable nav bums me out.

Hi, I am using Photon for my GSM. I have unlocked my phone and right now using MIUI ROM.
Can anyone suggest me which is the best available stable ROM for my photon with very less issues. Please help.
peetr's 2.3.5 Hybrid. It offer's the most in advantages vs stability. The current version has very few bugs and is extremely stable. It may not be "cool" but then again neither was Imperium.
1. Can we ange the status bar to be like MIUI ?
2. Do the softkey light works fine ?
3. Can i able con to sync facebook contacts and displays their photos and details in contacts with native apps without using Hexsync or something ?
Please give a reply .
ic4 roms not stable as u think
i tried 3 diffrent rom parinoid aokp and cm9 none were stable my phone wold randomly reboot when not being used , net flix dosent work issues with the kick stand mode i thought they all lacked the attension to detail since motorola makes things a lil harder soposidly
I second the choice of peetr's 2.3.5 rom. It works great and has been virtually bug free. I've tried stock, Imperium, paranoid, cm9, and cm7 also and the only one I can get data on aside from peetr's is cm7. I'm trying out simplemobile on my photon to see how t-mobiles network is.
Back to Stock
I unlocked my Photon to work with the AT&T and then decided to try some different roms. I think I want to go back to stock rom but keep unlock, how can I do that?

How is that rom going so far?
Did you used some fix or something?
peetr_'s 2.3.5 Hybrid is the best.
but for the adventurous people; cm10 alpha is getting along well with gsm network. better than cm9 alpha.
all CM9 have bugs
as i tried different CM9 ROM, all of them had major bugs, unless if you are considering camcorder not major part of the phone, even the alpha CM10 have the same bug and more.
for me i had to wait until an official release from Motorola
I think cm10 beta by jokersax with gapps v3 is better even though in the beta stage smooth and fast with small issues like white screen in camera application(but mind you jelly bean camera takes awesome photos even with the white screen) camcorder issues and themes not able to apply

Hey guys,
So I'm probably asking the everyday question but I've rooted in the past (my Droid X) but I eventually get a free replacement which turned into a Droid X2. I'm currently running 2.3.5, un-rooted.
Can someone point me to a tutorial to root it so I can toss on CM9 or another ROM (unfortunately new Alpha JB ROMs it looks like for X2). All of the tutorials I saw say 2.3.4 or earlier.
Thanks guys - sorry for typical dumb question.

So, I rooted my DX2 and flashed it with Eclipse 2.3. Do I need to do anything else, or is the assumption that there won't be any more OTAs for the DX2, hence no need for preserving root etc?

Yup, your work is done. Enjoy your rom. Moto has long moved on and is no longer supporting this device. If there is another update you can restore root and accept it but more than likely it will lock your phone from being rooted again so you won't want it anyway. Moto will not remove blur software which is the root of the issues on this phone. With their razr series phones they have revamped their os and stopped calling it blur and they have made it clear that this phone isn't getting ics so.. It's safe to say that no other developments are happening on this phone.

No more updates for us. Our phone is done for in the eyes of Motorola. So if you are up and running, you are good. Just remember that if you ever want to try any of the other ROMs we have, you need to get back onto 2.3.4. Thats the only thing I dont like about Eclipse. Its the only one on 2.3.5.

While I'm completely new to rooting/Rom flashing and smartphone hacking in general, I have spent countless hours of studying and reading up on this forum and others about hacking my Droid X2. Then, it took me additional days and weeks to work up the courage to jump in the cold water and actually do it. Why did I do it? Because my X2 on stock ROM/Blur and 60 apps was coming to a near crawl.
Anyway, to make a long story short: I think at this point, I'm more comfortable with Eclipse than any of the CM ROMs, purely based on what I've read about the current outstanding CM issues on the DX2.

CM9 is more problematic since we have a locked bootloader. Which means we cant run it on a kernel its supposed to run on, so its still stuck on a gingerbread kernel. CM7, however, is still based on the Droid X2's default kernel. So it doesnt have all the problems that the Ice Cream Sandwich based ROMs have. People say they have wifi issues with CM7 but I have never experience them when I was on it. Trust me though, eventually, curiosity will get the better of you and you will want to try out other ROMs. lol
Cm isnt the issue its the kernal that causes our ICS woes, cm7 is my daily driver 8o% of the time
Please don't post questions in the General section
Moving to Q&A
First I want to thank everyone on this forum for all the nice work, and great information. Now my question, My wife and I both have Droid x2 phones, and have both seen increased issues since the 2.3.5 OTA from Verizon. I am a very tech-savy guy, I do IT for a living, but still am not 100% comfortable with flashing phones. I have SBF'd my Droid x2 a few times, and finally got the courage to flash Eclipse 2.3 on it. I would like to explore some different roms, but am wonder how to tell which stock(2.3.4 or 2.3.5) I should have installed before flashing a rom? I did read that Eclipse 2.3 you needed to be stock 2.3.5, but I am looking at CM7 and CM9, but could not see where it was stated to be on 2.3.4 or 2.3.5. Would someone be so kind as to give me a bit of incite on this. Does a rom have to say it is for you phone to flash it? example I was looking at CM10, jellybean rom but do not see it listed for the droid x2?
Thanks for all your help

EVERY ROM, other than eclipse needs to be on 2.3.4 before flashing. And as far as CM10, we dont have it at the moment. The only ROMs we have are CM7, CM9, AOKP and Paranoid Android which are all for 2.3.4. And Eclipse which, again, is the only one on 2.3.5.
---------- Post added at 10:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:46 AM ----------
Also, a little background on our phone and the ROMs...
Our phone is running a Gingerbread kernel and that can't be changed. Even with the ICS ROMs, it is still running on a Gingerbread kernel due to our phone having a locked bootloader. That being said, all of our ICS ROMs, wont really be 100%. They run, and for a lot of people, they run really well. But you may get stuttering and lockups and random reboots every now and then. Some apps like netflix don't work since we have memory and graphics issues. But everyone feels different about what is a deal breaker. I have been running ICS since we got it and love it. If you want a fully working ROM though, CM7 or Eclipse is the best way to go. But it doesnt hurt to try everything out at least once.
