+1... With or without s-off id love to see that rom
sent from my Bulletproof Amaze w/faux .008 kernel

ICS, combination of voice technology like siri and vlingo combined, some good use of NFC like google wallet (although you'll still need your wallet!). I guess with ICS comes dual core support so ICS again. AOSP, with sense camera software, and some aspects of Sense contacts/dialer. Sense calendar!!! I guess I want sense but not all of it...always partial to sense!!!

For me, pretty much just ICS AOSP

ICS AOSP and Sense 3.5. With Sense, I wish it would follow dpi changes...
CM7 Tweaks; Gesture Unlock, Theme Support

I hope to see rom with enforce stereo↔mono recording with video related apps.
As you all know, mono recording is excellent with outdoor recording, but stereo is not.
And all video recording apps use stereo recording rather then mono recording

You can record in mono with amaze camera app lol

What I meant was that other then amaze camera app, the video recording apps are always using stereo rather then mono. I believe it is set to default.
Currently, I'm using Amaze as daily dash cam using Black box app and sound is just like when I record them with stereo. ( Image is sound is )
I have tried more then dozens car black box apps from market(free/paid) and every black box apps are using stereo recording other mono even if they have stereo/mono select button.

have you tried setting recording on mono in the amaze camera app and try recording with other apps?? just a thought, I don't know if this will really help, but it might.

I'd like to have a longer lasting battery. Throw ICS on top and for me it's the perfect phone.

it personal experience its not too bad, its just a little more "trebly." probably has something to do with the other microphone, the noise cancelling one on the back. It's probably not as good as the main mic or made for a different purpose and now their using it to get stereo. when I listen to movies with my headphones it bothers me when its mono, i'd rather just turn the bass up a little and have stero !!! lol
maybe it'll be adressed it ICS if it's not a hardware issue.

why are you all so in hurry about ICS?. I've tried ICS on my nexus s and i rollback to gingerbread.. so many apps are not compatible with ICS yet, wait awhile before it's worthy of dev's hardwork. and ICS battery is simply terrible (compared both best battery saving ROM from ICS and GB @nexus s)
i'd say, what i miss from nexus s development is =
- swipe to clear notification
- power widget on notification (still better than quick setting)
- BLD (back light dimmer by ezeekel)
- live OC (overclock both CPU and GPU at the same time)

you might be right, right now we have one core support on gingerbread. I can't imagine battery life when two cores are supported...It could be good or bad though, if used efficiently, two cores can draw lower power unless needed, but also give you the ability to perform better when you really need it.
I have seen a lot of complaints on the market that all these apps are not compatible with ICS. ICS is a lot of eye candy that can be achieved through skins themes and roms at this point, besides although I'm partial to sense, I would rather have a better working/more customizable sense (type of customization you see with adw and golauncher) that draws less cpu power and has more functionality than ICS.
Since my phone is stock I switch back and forth between adw and sense launcher and starting to like sense more and more. Some minor things that annoy me like unresizable widgets, and non customizable number of icons on the screen, and the dock bar could be used more efficiently to put icons on there as ICS has. I usually use one page with ADW for all my icons and widgets that i need. but with sense I have to use 3 pages.
With all this said I am looking forward to the combination of sense and ICS. I hope HTC does a good job on this...hopefully jump right to sense 4.0

I'd like 4G on my device, but that's a T-mo request not XDA, but I'd like to see ICS and Sense 3.5 or some variant and to know if our phones have a true dual-core cpu. I have read other forums about devices saying they have one but truly only one core works.

HONEYCOMB OR ICS

AOSP Gingerbread 2.3.7 or CM9, whenever that comes out. I prefer the stock look, but also suffer from some of the few bugs that I'm experiencing in BeastMOD 2.3.0. I wish we had mods that weren't based on the HTC kernels and foundations.

What is really known about ice cream sandwich?(besides it should be yummy)

I've seen threads about the prime where the question is "what do we know for SURE" and an obvious answer is nothing really. What about ics? Google searching really doesn't help since it is over posted with no concrete answers I can find.
So what are the main differences besides it being made tobwork on tablets or phones? I have a few answers that sound believable, but I would like to see some sources, not just rumors.

But it´s nearly sure that it will have ICS ;D
I've heard the platform called "a marriage between TI and Android," and "a marriage of Gingerbread and Honeycomb." Also, "Honeycomb for phones."
Ice Cream Sandwich is a somewhat faraway version of Android that will look much more like the sexy Honeycomb we phone users have seen from afar (imagine that Android Marketplace look brought to other stock apps), and it might just have the Honeycomb bottom bar too. (Although personally, I'd rather it NOT be there if/when the phone was switched to landscape mode)...

[Q] Why do people complain about HTC's Sense???

Not understanding all the Sense "hate" by people who know that it's HTC's trademark feature. Samsung has the Touchwiz and Motorola has their Motoblur...and HTC has Sense. But people talk about wanting a "pure Android experience"...What? The crappy basic icons that look as though a 5 yr old made them? What is a "pure Android experience" anyway? It's like buying a Mustang GT then *****ing about the GT and complaining to Ford that you want a "pure Mustang experience"...without the 5.0. If you want a "pure Android experience", why not purchase an LG Android device next time because they seem pretty basic instead of an HTC device with Sense. Isn't Sense the reason most of us were attracted to the device? We thought it was stylish and neat. It was the reason for me, anyway. The bottom line is that it just seems a bit ridiculous to purchase a device then complain about the devices main feature after KNOWING the feature is on the device. Hope those who compain about not wanting Sense on their HTC device find that "pure Android experience" they so desperately desire...let us know how it works out for ya. I personally like Sense and look forward to it's development. Cool story, eh?
Well....the borked bluetooth stack kinda sucks for one.

Ok, not being a smartass, but what does that have to do with Sense? Wouldn't that be a device hardware issue? I really DON'T understand. I thought Sense was basically, in a nutchell, HTC's customization or am I off on this?

"Pure Android Experience", meaning to have just the basic features."...People who want this, you guys have fun with your phones. (rolling eyes) May as well just go get an iPhone ;-)
Sense may look pretty, but it's one of the reasons why are stock batteries are awful!! I have 2 roms in the gsm thread, my senseless gingerdex and my gingerdex with sense.
My senseless rom gives me roughly 40-50% more battery life??? With the same kernel and setup on both.
There is about 70mb of sense related bloatware I removed.
I like the sense, however it's sluggish and slows down our phones.
Wait till you try a aosp rom the speed is scary fast, and I like to customize my phone, for me with sense gone, I have no choice but to roam the app market and completely create my own unique look.
Just my opinion

It has to do with Sense because it's Sense-specific. HTC uses some weird implementation of Bluetooth so it doesn't always work properly. AOSP roms don't have this issue, generally.
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D using xda premium
HTC screwed up Bluetooth. These guys aren't making it up. Throw an AOSP ROM on the 3d and it sounds great. On sense it sounds like garbage.
That's my primary beef with sense. Fix Bluetooth or give us a standard AOSP rom
Ok, I get the battery and bluetooth issue. Thanks for your input guys. I've wanted to root my phone but I have HBOOT 1.5 and it seems to be just a hassle anymore in addition to not wanting to flash a ROM that doesn't have everything working, so screw it.
Im pretty sure the biggest feature of this phone is not sense and most likely is the 3d. wether or not thats the reason you bought it that is this phones mightiest point.
However neither of these are the reasons i bought this phone, i bought it cause it has a good hardware design and the specs are all top notch.
And yes I ABSOLUTELY despise Sense and its lack of customizability.
Sense is good for some people and bad for others. I personally love it, but I still run AOSP just as often as I do Sense. Options are never a bad thing, and Sense is maturing finely. The next generation should improve on battery life with quad cores and sleeker Sense versions.

I gotta say I prefer sense I like some of the features it has...
I would be running CM if they were pumpin roms out but due to the 3D part of the camera going away can't say I would be using it for long..
Anyway sense isn't bad has some ups and downs...
Samsung touch wiz sucks lol man I never liked it on the EPIC...
Never tried the Photon.. So I can't say much about it...
Been liking Fresh Rom battery life is great on it since most of the junk bloat was pulled..... No issues...
What bluetooth issue are you guys referring to? I use my jaybird freedoms and everything works great
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Personally I like sense, but it is far from perfect. Bluetooth is finnicky and doesn't work with a six axis controller, sense in general is a very obese implementation of android which generally slows everything down, the screen drivers seem very buggy, etc.
Generally everything works on it, but it's far from perfect. I have a feeling ICS will be a huge upgrade all around though as they've had plenty of time to refine everything for this hardware.
Gotta say this was enlightening. I have heard people show utter disdain for sense and didn't really know why. I like it myself but to each his own.

You get a thanks just for stating that "don't ever compare" part.
My 2 cents on this, I switch between Sense and custom LAUNCHERS often, tried Nemus Launcher, Go Launcher and ADW in the past. Can't say which is the best. Never had a custom ROM so far so can't compare performance under Sense with performance on custom ROMs, but I'd imagine the customs would run faster without all the Sense bloatware.
At the moment, I'm just waiting for ICS upgrade, after which I'll unlock, root and back up the NAND for Sense 4.0... and then on to get some custom ROM goodness hehe!
I hate Sense. I like HTC devices.
Sense is bloated and totally inefficient. It's also locked down in too many ways.
I prefer ADW Launcher + Android Pro Widgets. I feel it's snappier with more customization options, and it doesn't affect my battery life.
I go from an HTC Sense ROM to a Senseless ROM and my battery life goes through the roof.
Because it sucks?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
I used to downright despise sense, but that's because HTC put a bloated, slow operating system on a really slow phone (I'm talking about the HTC Hero CDMA here, my first android). The only ROMs I ever ran on my Hero were CM6 and CM7 nightlies because those were the only ROMs my phone could handle without lagging way behind me (i.e. on sense, I could type fast enough on my hero that I'd get multiple words ahead of what the screen was displaying).
HOWEVER I've fallen in love with sense now that I have my Evo 3D, because the hardware is so much better in this phone that the phone can actually handle running it's own OS smoothly now.
ICS is pretty awesome from the few ICS ROMs I've tried, but I'm sticking with sense for stability, a working camera, and the battery life (I'm running infectedROM eternity and the battery life is amazing on that ROM)
I love sense WOULDN'T BUY AN HTC MOBILE WITHOUT IT.

I remember reading some time ago that Chad was working on adding zero shutter lag to the 3d through his kernel, but it would break the 3d capabilities of the camera. It did not happen afaik, but I am not sure if it was because it ended up not being possible due to hardware or what.

How is the quality? Since video tends to be recorded at a lower resolution that still pictures, I would think that would reduce quality by doing it this way.

Decent camera for AOSP?

It's ok, but not even close to the sense camera which is unfortunate. Still love JB tho

Personally I really like the Sense Camera and it was difficult at first to even consider AOSP due to the amount of horrible camera apps out there. BUT... I do enjoy the S3 Camera. Yes it doesn't burst when you hold the capture button as Rippley05 said, but it will burst to 5, 10, 15, or 20 pics at a time depending on what you set it to. There is also issues with 1080p recording, but I hardly ever do video so that doesn't matter to me.
It has all the other functionality that the HTC app has. I also think it takes better night or dark lit photos with less banding and noise. I'm happy with the CM10 9/29 nightly and this app. It will take some time for sense to win me back.

Sense - Like it Or Not?

I have noticed some people comment that they don't like Sense, but they don't say why. It seems fine to me. Can anyone tell me the downside?

It's a resource hog, plain and simple. The look and feel isn't bad, better than some of the other overlays for sure, but I much prefer stock Google for look and feel too.
With 3.6 and earlier, I didn't really care too much about Sense, but over time I started to really appreciate how they included everything I need instead of only a few things that don't work so well. I really don't like AOSP widgets, for example.
Then when Sense 4 came around, I knew I loved Sense after all. It's so polished and usable.
Maybe if I used widgets, I'd like Sense better. The only widget I run regularly is weather.
One of the things I find so invaluable about Sense is the calendar widgets. They are by far the best I've ever used on Android, and I've yet to find a Google Play app that provides widgets on the same level.
The music app on Sense is also really decent already and integrates perfectly with the lock screen.
Oh, and Peep is pretty decent as well. The Twitter app it comes with is rather nice.
I don't like sense. There's too many visual elements that do t look right, even in sense 4. If I took the time to theme it just the way i like it, I might be able to enjoy it. But AOSP is so much smoother and faster.
The only thing I love about sense is that clock widget. I can never get the clones to work properly with my set up D:

No. Boo on Sense.
I like sense, but its all I've used since my eris, inc1 and inc2. My wife has moto and I hate the look of it. I have flashed aosp roms before. Aosp is faster and smoother, but I don't like having to spend all the time to set up the look of my phone and the widgets aren't that greatand stock camera leaves a lot to be desired. Sense widgets are really useful and polished and the camera is one of the best. And it looks good already so I don't have to download a lot of themes and widgets from the market if I don't want to. I read an article that said sense takes away from the enginuity or innovation of android. But most android updates have included things that sense already incorporated previously. I had multi-touch pinch zoom and flash on donut, android added it in eclair. Sense had pinch to show all your homescreens in froyo but stock android didn't add it until gingerbread. But as mentioned before, it is a resource hog and you will get the most from your hardware with aosp. So its a give and take and really up to the user, but I prefer it.

Totally agree. I never realized how ****ty the stock camera was until I started comparing my images from before AOSP and after switching to AOSP. Now that I am stuck with this ****ty AOSP camera, I am starting to realize why so damn many people use that stupid Instagram app!
I like some of the integrations that Sense has. It's gotten better, but it's still a bit sluggish to me. I've flopped back and forth between AOSP and Sense ROMs.
I liked Skyraider back on my thunderbolt, but that was 2.1. I liked the look of 4.0 but didn't really enjoy the feeling til 4.1. I switch between aosp and sense basically every other day. Lol.

Of ALL the mobile operating systems out there, plain old vanilla Android is far and away the ugliest, most unrefined SOB in the group. It NEEDS something to dress it up. I actually wish Sense would go further. Like how about a real dictionary? BlackBerry and Apple put Android to shame in that department. And why do Android stock widgets have to be so unsightly and feature poor? Android's stock camera app has pretty much sucked on just about every device I've ever flashed it on, too. I'm perfectly happy to sacrifice speed for functionality if all the speed is doing is making another ugly, unrefined app, widget, or screen appear before me quicker. I've never handed a phone to someone after flashing AOSP on it and have them say "Hot damn, that ugly crap is FAST!", but I have handed phones to people with tight custom ROMs and fast kernels and had them say "Wow... This is the smoothest (fill in the blank) I've ever seen!"
aosp is ugly and boring. seems very utilitarian. I love how my rezound looks, but performance wise, I like the speed of aosp. I'm a certified sense lover, especially after having the nexus and the s3, and I can't wait for the dlx running the newest version.
