I am just wondering, is the shutter speed of the camera software based or hardware based... just seen how fast the galaxy sIII camera shutter is and even that of the google nexus compared to the one EVO3D have... hope its a software base... so that at least there is a chance brilliant devs can include it in their custom ROMS...
been asking this for sometime now... but not getting any answer so far..
+1 to this.

I remember reading some time ago that Chad was working on adding zero shutter lag to the 3d through his kernel, but it would break the 3d capabilities of the camera. It did not happen afaik, but I am not sure if it was because it ended up not being possible due to hardware or what.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
I don't use 3D that much so zero lag on 2D would be nice.
im pretty sure its hardware, but i dont know, in the recent ICS leak, the roms that have been coming out have been outstanding but it seems the shutter lag has gotten slower then the GB bulid roms. it could just be me though.
have that feeling too.. but cant try the gb stock rom now... just dont want to go backwards...

Same here, since I went to MeanROM ICS my battery has been burning faster, but the user interface of ICS is worth it... not to mention the facial recognition lock screen? oh yeah...
There's a camera app called Fast Burst Camera that you guys could try, there's a feature limited free version, and a pay version, i was looking forward to chad's zsl... but anyways, i like the results of the lite version but only been using it for 2 days, i read somewhere that the app actually records a video and then give you the frames. Am planning on upgrading my phone so am not paying for the app. Anyways give it a try...let us know how was your exp. with the app...

yup, just tried it and it works... the pix is not as nice as the one taken from mwakious cam mod though..... hey wait,,, if this app can force our camera to shoot at that speed... then there is a great possibility smart devs can do something about this with the stock camera apps....???????????????????
also, it will force open the stock cam apps if you press the shutter for the continuos shots...

How is the quality? Since video tends to be recorded at a lower resolution that still pictures, I would think that would reduce quality by doing it this way.

when the ics update comes out for the s2 will there be zero camera lag like the nexus?
or is there some kernal that can do this?
From what I've heard the camera "speed" is down to both software and hardware
Although the software will (I think) be improved, the hardware is the same so at best it will be a bit faster.
There probably won't be a change though.

I think it is totally possible depending on if the software in the ics build works well with the camera hardware of the sgs2.
I know the hardware is capable on the sgs2 because when I shoot in burst mode using "Camera FX" I can shoot 32 photos in under 5 seconds

That's at a low resolution though, not the full 8mp.
Using fast burst camera I can take shots at 480x800 roughly every 0.03 seconds (tested using an online stopwatch )
I like the idea, but I think I'd rather just have have properly focused pics...

If you focus the first shot won't the subsequent shots use the same focus?
Should be fine for most cases if the subject is the same distance away from you
Check out Camera ICS...This seems to be faster than the Rezound stock camera. It takes pictures pretty damn quick, at least it seems, almost as fast as the Nexus. Has anyone used this yet? If so, thoughts? Why can't the Rezound stock camera app perform like this app? I also don't see any picture quality difference between the two. Let me know what you guys thinK.

The stock Rezound camera app can perform just as quickly. Have you tried turning off the preview feature?

do you mean the "review duration"? i dont see the preview feature option to turn off/on?
after i take a picture using the stock app on the rezound the onscreen camera button dissapears for just a second, therefore i have to wait for the onscreen button to come back to take another shot. camera ics doesnt need to wait. the camera button is always there, i just keep clicking it and it takes pic after pic, no lag. i think there is a huge difference.
Hmm it's usually pretty fast for me. I've tried Camera ICS and both work well. Yeah I mean the review duration.
Good find! I'm running a Extreme Outcast's de-sensed rom 2.7.3 and so far this camera app seems to be an improvement. It's the FIRST camera app on any rom that actually has working "auto white balance". Finally, no more yellow/green/orange tinted photos and/or having to adjust white balance everywhere I go.

yeah i took the review duration off and it is a bit faster but the issue is with the camera button. after i press it to take a picture it goes away so i have to wait for it to come back. with camera ics, like i said above, the button is permanent there so i can just keep snapping pics one after another. i think its leaps above the stock, but hey im sure someone will find it very useful.
I downloaded "SD Speed Increase" from the market and increased my SD Card Speed to 2048kb. That seems to really help the camera performance on both on the Rezound and my old incredible. Huge difference actually.
You do lose some of the built in camera effects with this app. And I personally still think the Sense camera UI is a little nicer than stock ICS.
But, I do agree that the app takes pictures quicker than the stock camera, and that was worth a buck to me.
why there is no slow shutter program for andriod ... thats so strage.. it exists for iphone and works great ..
is it that hard !!!!!!
or .. some one cant port a program from .ipa to .apk ??!!!
You can't do a port.
If you want it... just do it, or ask for it to the developer community
It seems to be impossible for moment.

If you are looking for a camera app that allows long exposures, Camera FV-5 allows custom shutter speeds, it has many controls that mimic a dslr experience. I bought the full version, makes me miss my 5DMKII a little less when I am out and about without....

Is this thread still alive? I was found Motion Camera app on market https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fingersoft.motioncamera but the result is not good as on iOS https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/slow-shutter-cam/id357404131?mt=8 (if this what anybody here expected for long exposure technique).
I've check camera specification between my phone (SGS3) my friend iPhone 3G. Both have almost same aperture, about 2.6/2.8 (I forgot). The shutter speed, ISO, and Exposure can be customized (both device). So there no reason (I guess) for the app cannot be applied on Android. I've contact the developer and we'll wait for the news.

Did you ever find an app to do long exposure? I found one on iOS but it may be a limitation on android devices.

I like taking photos with this effects
Are there any plans to release your app on Android OS?

Hello,
Unfortunately, no.
Thanks for your interest.

The one thing holding me back from flashing cm10 is the fact that I lose the TW camera. The HDR function in it works _so_ well.
I've tried a few free versions of various HDR apps and they all suck compared to the TW one.
Does anyone have experience with any of the ones on the market and can maybe share their settings?
HDR/MDR
I don't consider any mobile camera good. Any cheapest point-n-shoot will punch it in face. If u got SGS3 for camera - u r wrong.
I heard Photoshop can do HDR - so look into that. Also PlayMarket is a good source of information.
I disagree. The camera on this phone is more than adequate, and HDR is impressive

meh, camera is great for my neeeds.
as for ps doing hdr, you need an hdr image first for ps to be able to manipulate the exposure and b/w settings.
what is PlayMarket? Something that reviews playstore apps?

Any recent cheap point in shoot will do better in terms of IQ.
Having said that even cell phone cameras vary in quality and if you use them then you'd be silly not to take that into account if it is important to you, even if you've got another camera that is better.... nothing wrong with buying the S3 for the camera. Not sure how that would be "wrong".
the camera was like 70% of my interest in getting the S3. I have a nikon d7000 DSLR and know that the cell camera will never be able to get close to that beast but sometimes I don't want to lug around my dslr and having a cell that can take great pictures is a huge plus especially if you don't want to carry a point and shoot and a cell phone at the same time.

I had previously used PRO HDR on the OG EVO, and it worked great. The EVO 3D didn't support HDR apps at all. The GS3 has a great built-in HDR option, and tried PRO HDR again - the native one is better!
So for now I'm sticking with the stock camera (I'm rooted, but running stock until CM10 has a semi-stable build..).

Get Camera360! I love this camera, its free and so many effects and you can actually choose between a couple different HDR modes.
Hey so I'm really a big fan of CMX, but I am far too spoiled by the Sense camera. Anyone know of ONE good camera app that can do burst the same way, supports the button the same way, and really is as much like the Sense one as possible?
Give this one a try.

the s3 camera can do burst mode, but it doesn't have the best image picker, it just saves them all.

It's listed in the OP of either the paranoid Android thread or the codename android thread.

The s3 camera is nice. It only does a 5 pic burst and it's not a "press and hold the button" its a setting that you have to turn on when you wanna use it.
It's ok, but not even close to the sense camera which is unfortunate. Still love JB tho

Personally I really like the Sense Camera and it was difficult at first to even consider AOSP due to the amount of horrible camera apps out there. BUT... I do enjoy the S3 Camera. Yes it doesn't burst when you hold the capture button as Rippley05 said, but it will burst to 5, 10, 15, or 20 pics at a time depending on what you set it to. There is also issues with 1080p recording, but I hardly ever do video so that doesn't matter to me.
It has all the other functionality that the HTC app has. I also think it takes better night or dark lit photos with less banding and noise. I'm happy with the CM10 9/29 nightly and this app. It will take some time for sense to win me back.
