Does anyone else experience they're EVO 3d phone screen completely messing up when outside in cold weather usually about 50°F or colder? I have tried quite a few roms thinking maybe just the ROM but was just the phone. Phone screen becomes completely unresponsive and almost has a mind of its own while in cold weather and not again until the phone is in warm air and gets warmed back up. Any help would be great

Lol thinking 50 degrees is cold. Its been low 40s here with dropping to low 20s and my phone works fine...

That's due to your hands being hot and humid which causes a wet fingerprint to form on the glass due to it being cold normal man. Cold glass and hot hands does the same thing when you put your hand on a cold window the mist it leaves behind. The phone is fine.

Lol he could check out amazon or ebay. Tho I tend to just wipe my hands on my pants before I use my phone.
I've never had an issue using my phone in cold weather. I was just in Massachusetts last week and it was in the teens while I was outside having a smoke on multiple occasions. Phone worked normally.

yea my phones works fine in the cold.. i live in Rhode Island and it gets brick!! phones good to go!!
You could have the problem I have seen a few threads talk about. Basically your touch screen gets messed up for whatever reason. Unless you have a lot of physical defects on the phone you may be able to get warranty on it. I have the same problem and it actually happens all the time. Across every rom I have tried in the past 6 months. I used the touch test app and can verify that a random point on the screen thinks im touching it at times. It happens mostly at the lockscreen. Which stops you from putting the correct pattern in. Turn screen off and back on and its gone for a while.

Tries looking this up but nothing. My phone has been pretty good since I picked up a new one Friday. Today its extremly humid in Georgia, to the point u step outside and instantly sweat...my lock screen has frozen up twice in the last 2 hours, can this be from the high humidity? I have to do a battery pull to reboot it and its fine.

Sound like your cpu is overheating. Humidity shouldn't really be a factor.
Also, you could try deleting /data/dalvik-cache and rebooting.
U could be right...its about 100 degrees out. The "feels like" temp says 105... Had the phone in my pocket and it did feel pretty warm to the touch.

Ya anything wet like wet hands sweaty hands will make your screen lock up at times not bad just wipe it off hit the power button again and your good to go not a big deal just don't drop it in the can while pinchin a loaf or your **** outta luck...
What I have noticed with my phone is if I get sweat on it, like if I hold it up to my sweaty face during a call, I can't interact with the touch screen until I clean the sweat off of it.
Take this with a grain of salt though... My current 3d is getting replaced due to other "issues".

When you said "lock up", did you mean it was completely unresponsive and frozen, or was it just the touchscreen that wasn't working (and it would still display animations, change the clock etc)?
Because if it's just the touchscreen, then the other fellas here are right - liquids on the touchscreen kind of disable it until you wipe.
Yeah, it's sweat. All my touchscreen devices completely freak out, do random things or mostly just become completely unresponsive whenever I'm at the gym and I go to change the song or something...it's definitely sweat. wipe it off and don't worry.
I am in Houston, we have high humidity as well, temps in high 90's and fells like in the low 100's. A lot of my work is done outside and my phone stays in my front pocket of my shirt, sweaty, hot, humid. No issues as of yet, but I am now worried about it, thanks j/k
High humidity and screen protectors have always been bad combinations for me.

And finally it happened, I accidently dropped my o1 on the carpet floor, and now I have these bands of lines about 20px wide one at edge and the other in the middle. The colors seem a bit lighter in those areas. Nothing unbearable but hell I thought the O1 was pretty durable. Guess I have to live with it now..
Any one else over here who dropped there phone?

dropped like 3 times on asphalt, nothing happened except scratches
Dropped and accidentally kicked it while running! Back key didn't work for two days.
dropped mine about 10 times until now only on asphalt and 'them bathroom floor-like tiles'...only scratches and battery keeps popping out every time. but no problems until now(although the power key works kinda funny)
Have dropped it once, it was on the table with bag, damn bag's strap taked phone with it ... but nothing happened, not even a scratch. Mine looks like new, I just are good owner.
I think I literally throw mine around. To soft places though. I drooped it face down on concrete it was fine, dropped it on carpet and the battery dropped out but it was fine.

The first time I dropped mine i was so sketched. Literally threw it at concrete. But it was fine.
Then, I dropped it getting out of my truck and now I have a little touchscreen deadzone at the bottom right of my screen so no touch works there. But, it's really spotty so it still works but swype is a pain in the ass.
But whatever, besides that it's quite a beast
I dropped mine many times, but I had a case on for all the drops so no problems.

Does anyone else have issues with their screen acting crazy if your phone gets cold? When I am working outside I cannot even use my phone until I jump in the van and hold my phone over the heater for a minute.
I had an Evo 4g last year and don't remember having this issue.
Thanks 7
Occasionally I will notice the screen responding a little slowly in the cold. This doesn't seem to be a touch issue. Seems more like the screen is cold and it takes time for the graphics to change due to the cold. Are you noticing issues with touch functionality???

That can happen due to it being cold and your hands being hot will cause a humid like mist on the glass which will make it slow or laggy till you wipe it down.
Mine actually starts with phantom presses. I can't even answer a phone call sometimes.

I can get mine to do that. If I am outside in the cold or if I just washed my hands and go to use the phone as soon as it gets some humid or moisture on the screen it from slightly humid or wet fingers will go all funky and random things will happen. Lag or it will jump on to all over the place then hang wipe it down and your good to go.
If the glass is cold and your hands are warm it can do the same thing.
I just thought of a way to make money. A special phone pouch that attaches to your drawers. That way it keeps your phone warm, close to your junk, plus makes you look massive. It's a win-win.

Where would you plug it in to keep the heat? And, being close to your junk isn't the best idea. Read about cell phones and sperm counts.

I S-OFF`ed my EVO 3D, flashed a custom recovery and a custom ROM (LeeDrOiD's latest), so I'm not on stock (if that's what's causing this).
Back in January, when it was cold outside (5-10 degrees), at times, after extensively using the phone outdoors (like 15-30 minutes), once I went into a warmer place (warmer by a few degrees Celsius, like 5 or so), the touchscreen was completely unresponsive. I could only lock or unlock the phone, but was unable to do anything else (which means using the touchscreen or capacitive keys, for that matter). I figured it may be because the screen was very cold or something...
I had to wait ~30 minutes for it to recover!
I figured that has something to do with the screen being somewhat covered by a very thin layer of water/ice or something... which rendered it almost completely useless (I was still able to drag the lock ring up a milimeter one time, out of ~20 attempts ).
----------------------------------------------------------
Now, it's almost April. It's warm here, alright, which means no more moisture outside (regarding the temperature, at least).
But there was drizzle outside yesterday, and I had to text someone. Several tiny water drops landed on my phone's touchscreen (not too much, covering like 1 centimeter in lenght), and the phone began to register mistaken touches...
The same happens when I try to use my phone with my fingers BARELY wet. I have to wipe the screen ENTIRELY to make sure it's not registering 10105909 touches all by itself...
This is ridiculous. Not even the HTC Desire (which had only 2 multi touch points, and even those, not so accurate) didn't have this problem! Nor the Desire HD.
Am I the only one?! Are you experiencing this, too?!

As far as I know there is a small current running on top of the screen. Any kind of moisture will make your screen go crazy. Thats why I use a screen protector, because my sweaty hand dont play nice with any touch screen phone like the Evo 3D

As a matter of fact, I do use a screen protector. I've used MOMAX Anti-glare, MOMAX Clear, and right now I'm using a no-name crappy sheet that makes the screen look all wavy and shyte... I'm gonna apply a MOMAX Clear again soon.
Still, that's not the issue. Screen protector or not, the issue remains.
If you ever had such problems, please tell me what device are you using. CDMA, or GSM (for Europe - golden or for US/Asia, like me - red)?!

I cleaned the screen with my blouse after I've been playing on it outside for 30 minutes. Cleaning did nothing...
Yesterday, it was raining. Not too big rain drops, but I let about 20 of them to cover the screen, some were little, a few were huge. The screen performed wonderful (in the time I tested it : scrolling across the menus, typing a fast message, probably less than 20 seconds).
What the hell...
---------------------------
NO responses?! Come on, I can't be the ONLY guy this is happening to !
There are 2 common types of touch screens. Resistive, which respond to flexing a thin sheet of plastic, and capacitive, which responds to an electric current. Resistive is not accurate so no one really uses it anymore except on knock off Chinese tablets. We have capacitive touch screens, same as apple products and every other popular android phone.
Any kind of moisture will interfere with the touch screen. Even if the air is very humid. There isn't much you can do if you are having those issues. And all electronics have specific temperature ranges they will function in. I don't know what the evo is rated for, but I'm sure it's somewhere.
Best advice is to keep dry. And no, a screen protector won't do much to help.

Hey guys, I recenty activated my backup 3D because my primary somehow got a deep scratch in the screen (so much for gorilla glass...) the phone is brand new and had hboot 1.5 and got it downgraded to 1.4. Well on the stock I noticed a brighter portion of the screen and it looks almost like a bubble, the middle of the screen looks great but when using a app with a dark background there is a bright ring around the whole edge of the screen (maybe .25 inches around the whole screen) and I am not sure what to make of it. Has anyone else had this kind of problem?
I had this problem on my evo 4g, although it doesn't pose any sort of issue with the phone, its a stress mark. They occasionally happen in your pocket where something has pushed down on the screen.
Other than it being an eye sore, there's nothing wrong with the screen.
(Sprint store informed me in my situation that since my screen was too perfect they would only replace it if I was OK with having a sub-par used screen with scratches.
No Fox you can reemplace screen to Fox however actually uf it os too annoying

Not sure how that's possible because it is a new phone and has never been activated. Kind of sucks because I am very OCD with my electronics and that scratch in my other screen came from no where and it really pisses me off... Guess I just have to live with it or go back to the scratched screen.
I thought this phone had Gorilla Glass? I never had a screen protector on my OG Evo and that thing went through hell without a single scratch...
I thought the same thing about my evo 4g, apparently it just happens. My 4g was only a week old when it happened.
I'm so OCD about my phones they have a dedicated pocket that nothing else goes in to, I wont activate my phone without a screen protector, and I wont go more than a week without an otterbox case lol. Stress marks were a mystery to me as well
