From start to finish and without errors, how long did ICS take to install?
I'm about to take the plunge.
I timed mine. The install took 7min 47sec untilled I could use the tab. And thedown load took about 5min
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
yea i was going to guesstimate mine took about 10-15mins total (download, install and reboot.)
hi
my update time to ICS: 8min 26sec
I would be much to excited to actually care about timing the update ... so thanks, you patient fellows ;-)
Thanks all. It took about 20 minutes start to finish. That included the camera firmware update.
So far ICS and the Prime are working good. My observations is ICS really opened up the Primes potential.

Ok - I just wanted a few opinions on what I should do.
I am one of the unfortunate people who had a perfectly working TP...Until ICS update. Now I have a continuous boot loop. I can only use my Prime for about 30 seconds before it reboots.
So I am going after work to return to BB. I called my local Gamestop and they were kind enough to hold the last one from the shipment they got today.
THE QUESTION: Should I immediately open the new one up and install ICS to see if it works on this one? Or stay with HC, until they fix the ICS update?
well you can only put it off 3 times, I say just do it. I reckon the issues are from a very early shipment that was just plagued. I may of course be wrong.

Did you try doing a factory reset on your current Prime after the ICS update? Maybe something is mucking up the works (sorry if that's too much technical jargon)...
You might find that the new Prime won't exhibit any problems. Certainly, neither of mine have any issues.

Yes - Sorry I forgot to mention that. I've tried the factory reset. That was one of the first things I tried.
Ok - GREAT news! got the new one from GS and installed ICS. So far so good. No reboots. Been running about 15 mins.

Glad you got another one fairly easily considering how hard its been for many of us to get the first one, lol.

ICS update works fine for 99% of us. So I say go for ICS.
So I've had my tab for less than a week. I have rooted it, but I've yet to put a rom on. Anyways, the time keeps jumping forward, about 6 hours a time. Like right now it says 6:17 and it is really 12:17. I have gone into settings to change the time several times now and it keeps happening. Any ideas why and how to fix it? Thanks
Sounds like there's something wrong; never heard of this problem. factory reset and flash a new ROM.
This is a classic problem with the 10.1s. My first 10.1 did it and this one I have now did it til I started flashing custom roms.

Really? I told my husband and he thought it had to do with the time zone selection. I changed that now we'll see if it happens again. I just thought I was being super stupid, but maybe it is a real problem.... I'll chime in tomorrow sometime to let ya know if it happens again still.
To be quite honest I haven't seen this issue pop up on the forums in a good while, but I remember when the 10.1's came out and it was a well documented "flaw" at that time.
W/ that said when I noticed my 2nd one doing it on stock 3.1 HC I just shrugged it off. Eventually on my old tab it went away and stopped doing it. I left that tab completely stock the whole time I owned it.
W/ this 10.1 I have now, I rooted and ROM'd it the 2nd day I owned it. But that first day on 3.1 HC stock I noticed the clock would jump exactly an hour to 5 hours ahead. The minute hand or minutes would always be correct however.
Are you tired of the constant updates lately? I didn't know if it would fix my prime or break it further I was just hoping for the best with 13,14, and 15. I was also hoping someone could hack the unlock key so I could still have my warranty. Well yesterday I got irritated and decided to unlock. The entire time I had second thoughts because I am unsure if this tablet will last a year without breaking lol, so I clicked through as fast as I could (after reading all the unlock ops.) Well as soon as I was unlocked I felt a whole lot better about my prime. Maybe I have just lost faith in Asus, I don't know but as soon as I loaded virtuous I felt more secure about my purchase. I guess I have finally come to the conclusion that Asus ISNT going to have a miracle fix for the prime that fixes all the problems and after asking someone through PM twice for a refund since I was dissatisfied with the product (only to get no response what so ever..) I decided I would make the best of what I have and stop worrying.
I don't know how to explain it but now that my device is unlocked all of my uncertainties are gone. I will keep this device for the next year or so and crack flash like there's no tomorrow!
If you are undecided on unlocking I say go for it. (Assuming you read the tutorials!!) I did and I am much happier.

what isseues did you have in each firmware ?
and what`s your sn ?
Reboots, bad wifi range, zero GPS, screen flickering, lag in the UI, bad battery life. Some of these issues would come and go depending on the update.
C10 serial.

I have a C10 also, but with none of the issues you have mentioned other than the gps being totally useless. I'm not that bothered as i don't really need it but it does take the shine off an otherwise excellent product.
Could you let me know if installing a custom rom has made any improvement to your gps performance.
Cheers
Interesting, i was to on the fence about unlocking. I returned my Prime the other day. I've never had wifi probs on any of mine. Just got fed up with random reboot and YouTube glitches and browser freezing. One had dead pixels and light bleed.
Might have to pick up another today. Why not make it 5 lol.

let me know how you like the virtuous rom. how is the battery life compared to stock? how is the overall speed of device now in your opinion? have you come across any shortcomings on the rom yet? I'm on the fence also but still holding on. I will at least wait till I see more roms. plus I'm really looking for a rom to bring 1.8-2.0Ghz+ speeds. then I might jump the gun if its stable and performs very well.
I think I know the feeling you talking about. its a feeling like you have more control now over the fate of your device now that you can flash new roms at will. did you use rom manager to install official updated CMW or did you use the unofficial method? or the all in one method with viperprimetime 4.5?
glad to hear you feeling more confident about device now that you have the power..lol

This. Yes more control over its fate lol. I tried to use rom manager but it wouldn't work for me. I did use vipers mod to unlock and install cmw. Virtuous is great, very stock feeling and buttery smooth. Ill let you know about the battery after a week or so of testing. I do like the 1.6 ghz overclock being the new performance mode. No screen flicker anymore either! It does seem very stable in the few hours I've tested it. Will update when I can.
Edit: GPS is just as dead as before zero birds.

I won't get the fuzzy feeling until I can unbrick with nvflash, like with my phone (only not nvflash lol)
But I absolutely understand! 20 minutes after I picked up my phone from the Post Office, it was running custom ROMs (without voiding warranty... bah!). 10 minutes after I picked up my Prime it was rooted
Until then I'm still kind of sitting on a sharp edge with the Prime.

*EDIT: see lol, figured I was wrong. I was mistaken, but it is what will allow us to recover from some s/w bricking.

I'm in the exact boat you are, C1 and no issues besides GPS. Just solved that today with GPS over bluetooth pairing with my Nexus. Ive got no need to unlock with Voodoo rootkeeper, haven't had any issue with Asus' OTA's (.13 had the battery issue but it disappeared for me in .14) and if they want to provide me with frequent updates- I'll take em. To each his own I guess.

Definitely, I'm glad your having great luck with your prime! As far as battery life on vitreous rom, it seems VERY solid. Still no concrete numbers but its been on for about 12 hours with about 5 hours of usage and I have 68% battery. I've ran several benchmarks during this time as well. Seems quite a bit better!
Edit: by the way, I am in no way hating on the prime. I was so excited when I got it (one of bestbuys first batches!!!) But I've just had more problems than is normally acceptable even from a new product. I love my prime so much I'm just disappointed with a few critical features and was hoping Asus could somehow fix these issues. I am a HUGE techie and even though I can get about 27-32 mbs from my prime upstairs, all my other devices get a solid 42 mbs which makes me sad face! Lmao.

I had the same feeling as the OP, except it was the first day the unlock tool came out.
I had wholly intended on unlocking it right away.
I also love experimenting, learning and tinkering with this, so I've flashed and reflashed about 100 things on my prime so far, and I could not ask for anything more

Hello all, First and foremost I just wanted to know if you think I should accept the JB update that keeps popping up every time I turn on my transformer prime. From what I hear I will lose flash? Is there a flash out there that I can install after the update? Is it worth updating? Also in case I choose not to accept the update how the heck do I stop that dam reminder from coming up all the time? Thanks for any help in advance

I had the APK downloaded (Search on XDA for flash APK) on my SD card and installed it after. I couldnt even install it on my prime from marketplace with ICS. I just got the message that it wasnt compatible. I just went to the Adobe flash "find version" page and the movie runs after I tap to run plugin or whatever it says on the flash content and I am on JB.
Thanks for the help. are you having any other issues with the update? Is it worth updating?

I highly recommend updating to Jelly bean. It has significantly improved my tablet and has made using it much more enjoyable. I also recommend that you do a factory reset before or after you update as it tends to resolve most problems. All ofyour apps will reinstall from the Playstore.... its not a big deal.
Regarding flash... you can side load flash with no problems. However flash will only work with the stock browser. Chrome and Dolphin will no longer work with flash.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda app-developers app
I think I might just do it. Wish me luck
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda app-developers app
Flash will still work if you sideload the flashplayer apk but its not going to be 100% as it was on ICS so if thats important to you then I wouldnt upgrade. Also if you have a dock make sure you dont put an sd card in the dock as it will cause reboot. Usually when you wake up the tablet as it tried to detect the sd card again. Wasnt an issue with ICS. As far as smoothness I dont see any major improvement and still see occasional stutter. ANR has not gone away 100% for me but its less frequent.
On the upside I noticed my intermittent battery drain is gone. There are times with ICS when my battery dies in a day of minimum use. Not all the time though.
Yes, I would update (you may lose root but may be able to restore it), and yes you can reinstall flash by side loading it. Runs much smoother after the update

Still 4.1.1
I took a screenshot before the update. Looks like new bluetooth and kernel changed.
If there's a new kernel maybe we have stock 1.6 again?? Anyone who updated use a cpu controller so we can see how high it goes stock?

I like the update. It seemed to have sped up my tablet. Don't get the annoying kb lag when I type and havent seen any ANR with browser and I'm currently downloading a bunch of stuff on play store. Currently it's downloading NOVA 3 and everything is still snappy.
EDIT: K finally got it to ANR in browser lol. I loaded a few heavy pages. Took a while though which is good.

Just got the update here..
And lost the power/wifi etc control widget! I don't see it anymore!
Do you still have that widget in your prime?
Thanks.
WTF?
What the hell???
This update is awful. Been using it for the past 20 minutes and have had more ANR's and frozen screens with the stock browser than I've had the past month combined.
Tried a cold boot and it improved nothing.
Not happy. Going to bed angry now, but may have to resort to a factory restore in the morning... but seriously? Should I have to reinstall all of my files and apps for this "improvement"???
Imagine if everytime you installed a Windows update it fored you to reinstall all your software ad documents/files???
ww out also, seems to be the same update recently released for the TF300.
Going through the battery quickly. It seems that "Download Manager" is hogging a lot of CPU. Have done a cold boot, this has not fixed the battery drain.

No issues so far....
I just installed the update and have not seen anything to cause me any concern. Usually I listen to my podcasts at night at work on a creative BT stereo headset. I would have to say the sound is a little better then what it has been, so perhaps something was tweaked to enhance transmission or clarity. Since the pad is on my desk, its not like distance was ever a factor in BT performance as I experience it.
Wireless seems just fine as well......I am getting more bars in the same location then I usually do, but I havent tested it extensively. Could haev just picked up a more favorable access point.
Browsing seems more crisp then it usually does. Pulse seems to be more responsive instead of pondering.
GPS is surprisingly........same (wasnt expecting anything here getting better)
Settled down now, "Download Manager" process has stopped hogging CPU. WIFI connection speed is a lot faster.

Don't ASUS provide a backup app? All you really need probably is wipe dalvik cache (but that needs root).
After banging my head on the table due to the failed JB update over and over. I tried everything that does not involve unlocking my bootloader.
No luck with that
Of course it said no updates available after the failed JB update... :silly:
but, now this update popped up today on my tablet, I said "what the heck, try and see what happens".
Well, I 'll be damned, this time it worked!!! Updated the dock firmware at the same time too!!!
They must have changed something in the update procedure due to all the people who were unable to update before???
Anyways, finally I am running a stock 4.1.1 JB ROM! :good:
P.S. I was literally considering unlocking it today, just finished backing up with Ti-Pro and the alert showed up on my status bar.

Me think too! Oh Polaris office got updated again.
Doesn't feel any faster to me though but I got a ipad mini now for that now.
I've been wanting to root for a while now, but seems to be very difficult. Is this new version going to make it worse?
I got excited when I saw that there was a firmware update, bu tmy wifi still disconnects during sleep even though I have it set to always stay on during sleep.
I'll try a factory reset later, but I'm not expecting anything to work. Looks like ASUS is either ignoring this problem or doesn't know about it.
