Not sure if this has been posted before, so I apologize if this is a repeated post.
I had been losing 4G service randomly over the past few days. 1X and 3G would be the the only service I would receive in places where I previously been receiving strong 4G.
The service would also return intermittently.
I have an extended battery and a standard battery, which I have been cycling through full charge / discharge.
I have Fast Boot turned off in power settings.
What I have found is that my cell network settings reset or change on their own, each time I shut down and/or do a battery pull.
Normally I have Network Mode set to LTE/CDMA and Enable Always-on mobile data is checked.
What I think is happening is that when I bring the battery down to nearly 5%, my power-saver settings shift from Performance to Normal. My LTE is then shut off and when I replace the battery with a charged one, the power saver settings remain in Normal, with LTE shut off.
I'll spend some time verifying and I guess the answer is really to not condition my batteries by discharging past 10%.
I may also be allowing this to happen by responding improperly to the low battery notification.
Hope this helps anyone experiencing loss of 4G...

Battery saver mode shuts off auto sync, 4G, and always on mobile data. You need to set battery in settings back to performance instead of normal or economy.

I actually checked that in the 4G outage thread, but two respondents from my area (NY/NJ) said there were no outages. But I think that's why it was so hard for me to troubleshoot the other reasons for my 4G loss.

There seem to be some quirks on the phone. I will see 1x to 3G to LTE (in that progression) if I have been in an underground parking garage, or maybe a weak WiFi that comes in and out. For the most part, when I see 1x or 3G, I assume verizon is having some issues. 99% of the time it just comes back. 1% or less (probably less), I toggle mobile networks.

I've considered switching to VZW from T-Mo. One of my concerns is battery life with 4G. Can 4G be turned off with something like Juice Defender? Do you really need 4G while your phone is sleeping, pushing e-mails?
You can change it to 3g only in the network settings.
The only time I need 4g is when im showing off.
Yes, there is usually a switch between forcing LTE mode, deactivating LTE, or allowing your phone to choose between 4G and 3G based on signal strength.
Another thing to remember is when you're at home, you can use your wifi connection.
I have had both the HTC Thunderbolt and Samsung Droid Charge, so from my experience keeping 4G on is craaaaazy fast battery drain.

Yes, but can I do it systematically? Also, can the phone pick up 4G while you are on a call to instantiate voice & data simultaneously? I would use the data speeds regularly, but don't need them while the screen is off.
BUMP......
It probably can be done with smart actions? I haven't taken a good look at it yet, but seems promising.
Bump bump bump
Bump........
there are 4g toggle apps in the market making swapping service very easy.. 2 nights ago i went about 10 hours w/ 4G on with moderate use before getting a 20% battery warning.. last night i tried 4g off, went to work, forgot to plug my phone in at night and woke up to 50% battery, unplugged for 20 hours (both nights i had a full charge before leaving for work).. it's a pretty drastic difference, 4G is blazing fast tho, i'd love to be able to keep it on 24/7..
check out the pic. notice when i went to 3g when i went out for a bit, my battery just dropped... i didn't use the phone that much when I was out, and it still drained that much. hmm.
actually right now I can't upload a pic. anyone else having that issue from the app?

No problems on my end bro!
VZW has had problems with their data system for the last 3 or 4 months. Your issues are probably related to to the problems all 4G phones are experiencing these days. You will see people in all the 4G forums complaining of losing data and low signals killing batteries. Saturday I was in a low signal area and kept losing 4G down to 1X and that also heated up my battery for the first time since I got the phone.

i just have nothing to compare it to, because everywhere i go, i use wifi all the time lol....i haven't used just 3g in SO damn long, so i don't have a basis to compare with the rezound
Idling on 3G doesn't seem to hurt me too bad (I usually let juice defender keep it off to mitigate the risk), but actually using it is way more draining than wifi. I can sit online all night at home on wifi, but only get about two hours of solid use when I'm out and about.
Going to a 4G city this weekend for the first time. Bringing backup batteries.
I think what may be happening is that once it drops to 3g or 1x it tries hard to get back to 4g and that is what hurts more than anything.
Try forcing it to 3g only and see if you have the same drop in battery under preferably the same conditions.

Yes,that is what happened to me Saturday,it dropped to 1X and overheated trying to get back to 4G.
I did force it to 3G and it still stayed hot. But I had that happen once with my Thunderbolt, so I feel it is the vzw data signal not the phone.
3G kills battery compared to wifi.
i shut off 4g the day i got it lol...yeah, i think 3g just uses noticably more battery tahn wifi

definately. i can sit at home, connected to my wifi, and i can get like 2 or 3 days out of the battery. with light usage that is. on 3g though, with light usage, i'm lucky if i can get a full day.
3g actually saves my battery, somehow 4g and WiFi take more battery for me

Hey all,
Having a few battery issues, hope someone can help.
1st issue is - i went from 100% charged to 70% in 1 hour. Yes i was using the phone the whole time but i was doing simple things like just setting up all my 7 home screens. Brightness is set all the way down to low (0), no auto brightness and i even have the dim screen setting on as well. I checked the battery usage and it said screen took up 50% of battery loss. Surely this isn't normal? I was only pretty much setting up my screens and settings, nothing intensive!
2nd issue is - I have noticed that even though the phone says it's charged to 100%, i have downloaded a few third party battery widgets/apps for confirmation and MOST/ALL says phone is still charging and not 100% even though the stock battery/phone says it is!
also battery circle and 2x battery when they finally reach 100% even though stock phone battery has reached 100% quiet sometime ago, as soon as i pull the power cord out it immediately drops to 99%.
WHAT'S GOING ON!
Any help?
=)
Thanks in advance!

The screen is the biggest user of power on any touch screen phone. It not only has the display but it also incorporates the touch portion as well. Using it 1 hr strait constantly and using touch that loss really isnt too bad. Just the display on by its self is bad but touching not only uses more juice but it also jumps up the CPU while touching.

Moto Phones report in 10% increments. It may show 100% even though its not. to fully charge turn the phone off and plug it back in. It should continue to charge. Look into something called bump charging. Essentially its just involves the user turning the phone on and off and plugging it in until it reads 100% immediately without charging.
also battery circle and 2x battery when they finally reach 100% even though stock phone battery has reached 100% quiet sometime ago, as soon as i pull the power cord out it immediately drops to 99%.
Another common thing with phones. I have had multiple phones that do this. Nothing to worry about. Its just how the system is reporting it. Its NOT a power loss or anything. Part of the issue is from what I am hearing is the lithium batteries are fully charge (100%) at a certain level which is only maintained while plugged in which is why it shows 99% immediately when unplugged.

we have 3g and that's about it.
if that saves juice then all the better!

Go settings - wireless and networks - mobile networks
U can choose ur 2g/3g settings there
Mine is XT910S from Korea.
I always dial *#*#4636#*#* and the phone will show an advanced menu where you can see the imei as well as choosing from a long drop down list of Mobile data settings.

You can turn it off under the network settings like others have stated. Turning off 4G here with our phones in the US can increase battery life significantly. 4G radio is #2 or #1 in the power drain depending on what you are doing.
I must say, with it being a AU version I am not sure if it even has the 4G radio inside, I would have to look into the GSM versions; or if someone with a non US phone could chime in and advise.
I personally just leave my 4G on all the time. I live in a great 4G area so the phone doesn't waste power searching for 4G signal. However when I download something 10mbps or more really does hit the battery hard if you do some big downloads or stream movies/music. I have no issues with charging it every day.
The time of charging your cell phone once or twice a week is gone.
I've read and read, searched and searched this forum and have not come across my exact problem yet...
I know there have been overheating issues, and I know there have been boot looping problems... all causing terrible battery life, mine has neither. Let me rephrase, my overheating issue is not due to me actually using the phone... On idle (with the screen off), my Rezound only lasts about 2 hours on a full battery. Granted, I live in an area where there isn't full service, but there is some service. I can watch as data is being exchanged with no apps running. What the hell is using data? I have a feeling this is what is killing my battery, the phone is not at all sleeping. I have deselected "always on data" and I turned off fast boot and auto sync.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, my phone is a bone stock refurb.
Try a factory reset maybe?
I can do that, but it doesn't really solve the problem. It just started doing this yesterday. I've had it over 2 months and haven't downloaded anything different. I would really rather just figure out what is causing it, so I don't have to do a factory reset every time something like this happens. You know? Thanks for your suggestion, I'm afraid that is going to be my last resort right before exchanging it...
Try exchanging the battery first. Start small. Work your way up to the big stuff(exchanging the phone). Why give up the customizations you've done if you just have a bad battery?
I was thinking it may be a bad battery, but it concerns me that I can watch the data stay running even though I'm not using anything that requires it. My brother has a Rezound and I placed mine next to his and literally watched the battery life deplete 10% in 5 minutes while his lost no percentage at all, both were idle with the same screen settings. Is it common for a battery to fail that drastically out of nowhere?

If data is constantly being used, something HAS to be using your data. I'd get an app like better battery stats and CPU spy. CPU will show you if your phone is going into sleep mode at all and better battery stats can show you which apps may be causing it.
Do you have the 4G antenna on?
I have betterbatterystats, it shows android system at the top of processes. That program is a little difficult to understand since everything is abbreviated.
I appreciate all of your responses. I just got off the phone with Verizon, they're sending me another phone AND battery for good measure. During lunch today I watched the percentage of my battery deplete while it was plugged into the wall and not being used, used a different charger, nothing. It wasn't even hot. I turned the phone off to try to get it to charge. when I turned it back on, it got to the lockscreen and then restarted itself. Boot looping now. I'm not going to fool with it anymore. Maybe the third Rezound will be better.

I haven't changed anything from out of the box other than visual properties. I'm assuming the network has a little to do with it, but it started failing way too fast to be a radio problem IMO.
I received my 2nd Rezound last week. First one had the hiss/feedback/interference issue through the headphone jack that escalated to a level of to not being able to use the headphones at all without being painful. Anyway, the new one is running very hot (battery) and is draining the battery almost as fast as you're describing yours to do. I've used both the standard battery and extended. This morning while using it at home on wifi with most of my syncs either disabled or set at a min of 2 hrs it drained my extended battery by 20% in 20 mins. I wasn't even using the internet or streaming any music or video. I was working on setting up calender and task list widgets. Phone is stock, not rooted. I will be calling Verizon tonight to see about getting a 3rd one. Sucks as I really like this phone when it's working properly. If the 3rd one has issues to and HTC isn't rolling out any fixes for them I might have to look at something else. But I don't want to!
I feel like if I can get the hardware to cooperate with me, I can get the software to. I was planning on rooting after the ICS push, but the phone obviously had different plans.
Set your phone to CDMA only, especially if you don't live in an area with LTE coverage. You will see significant battery advantages from that alone.

I should have mentioned that I'd already done that (only 3G here anyway). I've done all the battery management tricks I've read about but this phone has an issue. I'm not even getting half the battery life out of it that I was on the 1st one. And the battery gets significantly hotter then the other phone.
tried wiping battery stats after 100% and drained/recharged a few times?

One thing I found to save power that I don't really see posted anywhere is by using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=AutomateItPro.mainPackage&feature=more_from_developer#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEwMiwiQXV0b21hdGVJdFByby5tYWluUGFja2FnZSJd
I have it programed to turn off 3G/mobile data when it screen's off....unless I have a certain app running like say the browser. It will then keep data connected until the browser is closed, then the screen turned off. I then have it turn 3G/mobile data on as soon as I screen on again, so it's ready to rock instantly. I personally noticed a huge difference in my battery drain when not using the phone.
The app is pretty cool, you can program a ton of things. I have gps auto turn on when I use G-Maps or GasBuddy, then it auto turns off when I close those apps. Saves time and juice imo. Just figured I'd throw this out there.
nice app. isn't there a setting within the OS to do this, though? pretty sure there is.
either way, agreed. data usage can/will cause battery drain.
the real perp is your display, however. adjust your brightness settings, you will see significant battery improvements.
My display is set low, and all my other settings are set to be battery friendly. It's been awhile since I used the app. But after I had that setup, I noticed better life instantly. Went fishing today with the little guy, left the house with 100%. No phone usage for 2hrs, and it was still at 99%.
Can't you do this without the app tho

If there's a way to set the phone to turn the radio off when screen is off, I'm unaware of that. I tried turning it on and off manually, but it got to be a pain turning it on and off all the time. I would end up just leaving it on. Now I don't even have to think about it, and it gets done everytime.
Sounds similar to Tasker, which is a little confusing to new users.
But as for your post, turning 3g off saves a TON of battery. I have to keep it on during the day to get emails for my job, but at night, I turn 3g off, and the phone will drop maybe 2% overnight with 3g off.
The CDMA version of the 3D has a setting in network that allows you to turn off your mobile network if the screen is off for 5+ minutes. The setting is "turn off always on mobile network". But the screens needs to be off 5 minutes before it will. This setting will not turn off wifi though.

If you wanted to save battery life without downloading anything you could just use the HTC widgets for mobile network, 4g, WiFi, and GPS. This method allows me to switch the settings on and off on the fly. I've also found that if you disable all GPS options it won't be running in the background and for apps that require it. And if I'm in one spot for a while I just use WiFi.
