Screen unresponsive while charging problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, is that problem related to just few devices or all galaxy s2 users have it? Tried different kernels and problem still here... any solution? Hardware or software? Thnx!

Try charging with a different AC charger or via USB cable from PC.
Do you have any kernel CPU profiles set whilst charging?
What about Chainfire's CF-root kernel or stock?
Edit: If still no good, backup, then full wipe (factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik) followed by immediately flashing the ROM and kernel.

Common to all capacitive screen phone, no solution really, get another charger.

Had a similar issue when charging with a friend's charger. The screen wasn't unresponsive, but it was really insensitive, and didn't recognize slides, only touches. It works fine with my charger. Strange.

As suspected, charging with USB to PC influences screen minimal i assume because of small current going into phone. Every other charger causes more unresponsiveness. I assume that stock charger is made that slow to charge because of trying to avoid this problem. Currently i am using SiyahKernel v2.6.6 and stock KWKK5 rooted ROM (no other modifications). It seems that my problem is more visible with that combination than with some older 2.3.5 ROM and SiyahKernel. Also, it seems that problem is most visible while phone very empty (1-10 % of battery). I tried other chargers, but as i say, problem is always there, even on PC to USB, but is less visible!

[Q] picky charger cords or none at all

So the last couple of weeks it seems my player 5.0 is really picky on what kind of charger will charge it. At first all worked and then no wall charger would work only through USB. Then only a few cords I could barrow from friends now none at all but once in a blue moon. It will not even attempt to charge on 99% of cords. I have recently found out if my device is completely dead I can plug it in and it will do nothing but reboot till it completly dies. If I let it completely die and not unplug the cord it will charge and reboot 100% after a hour or two and be fine again but does n longer charge unless its own ignorant demand. I haven't tried switching roms cause I'm quite content with my current one and has no other problems software visible so I was curious on if it was hardware instead any ideas guys?
I've seen mixed results trying to charge with cables other than the one that came with the player. Sometimes they work fine, other times they work for a while then wont charge it. Most of the time, data transfer works fine. Might be some weird voltage issue or something with the hardware, but I saw issues with the Stock setup.

I think this can only be hardware related, right? Does the micro-usb port still look right? You could send your device if you still have warranty (or if you really need it repaired).. That will take some time, though
To clarify, is this distinct from the standard bootlooping problem where a device will continuosly cycle through a partial boot if it's powered on (or reset) while connected to another computer via the usb cable? If the battery is too weak to last through a whole boot process, the charging screen will flash on and off as it moves through that partial boot cycle.
If that's NOT the problem you're experiencing, I'd suggest booting into recovery mode and wiping the battery stats (it's under advanced in most CWM-based kernels).

Thank you wiped battery stats and my.cord I though I had wasted 20$ on started charging it right after reboot
Glad that worked. Odds are it was actually charging the battery, but android had the wrong info, so it wouldn't show as charging or warn you when the battery was getting low. This is a fairly common occurrence for me, which is why I never trust the battery indicator, and charge it whenever possible.

My Tab says it's charging but its not. Where do I go from here?

Everything indicates my Galaxy Tab p5113 is charging properly- the tab tells me in several places its charging, there is a flash symbol on the battery. Charging via PC is no different. However, in reality it's not charging at all, the battery percentage is always going down.
Ive tried (1)different batteries, (2)different chargers and (3) different firmwares - the result is always the same - a drip drip of the percentage charge.
Not only does the Tab tell me it's charging, I am also not having any problems with the data connection - I can move stuff between PC and Tablet and vice versa without any problem.
Where can I go from here? Help please.

I'm not sure.. But I would wipe cache, dalvik cache, and reset/wipe the battery stats in recovery and reboot. If that doesn't work see if something is running, pulling away charge ( I doubt this, but had to put it in ) You said you changed firmware..did this include a kernel change. If not I would grab a stock kernel or at least one you know works well. Double check USB pins are not bent or touching/maybe dirty. My e4gt showed it was charging all the time once.. I could still charge and transfer files. Ended up being a bent USB pin. I fixed it with a tooth pick and a pair if tweezers..lol. Take the battery out if you plan on sticking anything in the USB charging slot..Sorry I couldn't be more helpful
Just in case there was a problem with the Charging Port I swapped it with another one I had which I know to be working. This hasnt made any difference.
I am happy it's not a kernel problem. I was running a stock firmware, I then updated via Kies to another stock firmware. I then put on CM 10.1. In all these cases, whatever the firmware, it didnt make any difference, the battery didnt charge.
Ive tested the battery with a multimeter. I know it's not charging despite the device saying it is. In this circumstance I dont think that a re-calibration is necessary.
Im feeling at a loss. Despite trying different chargers, different firmwares, different batteries and different charging ports the device will just not charge. Im think the problem might be on the motherboard (but not sure where).
Comments appreciated
Same here with my Galaxy Note 10.1. This is a unit issue. Not a charger or battery issue. After some lengthy time it does manage to get charged and everything is great again...for awhile. I have done a lot of research and found no solution. I have seen posts where people have changed the battery and the charger with the cable and same problem persists. Samsung seems blind to the situation.
Try this with the tablet plugged in to power: Hold down all three keys (vol up, vol down, power) until the tablet resets. I think this resets the charging logic and may work.

[Q] Had to disable unstable power detection to charge my phone properly. What now?

I've had my s3 for a year now and since last night it began to charge very slow. I've been using the stock charger and cable , however the problem still persisted with another Sony cable I used.
Wiping and reflashing ROM + Kernel did not work. Galaxy Charger Current Lite showed up 999 as the current mA and it was still painfully slow. The only thing that did work was when I installed the Perseus kernel and disabled Stable margin & Unstable power detection. Then the phone charged properly.
Now I am worried about why do I have to go through that workaround. I haven't tried the stock rom + kernel yet but I think the problem will be the same.
I'm still in warranty but I've had my phone for so long without a single scratch. I have kind of an OCD when it comes to my phone, even the tiniest scratch visible under sunlight might upset me, so I'm a bit worried sending it in for repair since I've seen them how they handle phones.
I haven't tried changing a battery yet but I doubt that's the cause. Do you think my micro-usb port is failing and will I have problems or even further damage the phone if I continue charging with the stability detection off?
Flash a full stock rom and test before install/restore any apps or mods. If still the same then change charger and battery.
After that you are looking at hardware fault, probably charging IC or port.

Custom Kernel won't charge in OFF mode. If battery dies I'm screwed!

Hi All,
Recently rooted my phone with a custom kernel and the phone does not charge when powered off for both wall USB or PC USB. It displays the grey charging battery and after 1 minute switches to the same graphic but with actual battery level and %. If I'm charging via computer, I can hear it make a USB connection sound at this point and after 5-10 seconds it disconnects. and the grey battery graphic comes back. And then this whole process repeats over and over again. The phone charges perfectly when its ON though, no problems at all! Only when its OFF do I have this issue.
I've tried Siyah, Speedmod, Dorimanx kernels with a combination of ROMs but it always has the same issue. Flashing back to Stock ROM fixes this offline charging issue. I think the issue is Kernel. The cable is not a problem cause I've switched it and I've cleaned the USB port on the phone. Changing back to stock ROM always works.
Anyone else have this problem? It's a serious one because if the battery ever dies out on me, I won't be able to charge it back unless I use an external charger.
any ideas..
Maybe it's battery related. Try another one.

Phone doesn't charge - Charging LED stays on when unplugged

Is anyone else experiencing this on LP roms?
I'm currently on 5.1.1 and if I unplug from the charger, the LED stays on and the battery percentage icon continues spinning as if it is charging.
When this happens, the battery drains abnormally quickly unless I reboot to get rid of it.
It also stops it from charging if I plug it back on the charger.
Extremely annoying, I might try reverting to an older 5.0 ROM and see if it still has the problem, maybe it's my device and not the ROM but would love to know if anyone else has come across this problem...?
obviously you're on a custom rom since the Z2 doesn't have 5.1.1 yet, so which one ?
I've recently tried multiple 5.1 roms, but never had this issue, but maybe it came up in newer builds, not sure.
You could try using other 5.1.1 rom to see if you still have the same issue. If it doesn't then you can inform the developer of your rom
thanks people's
Yes, a custom rom, I tried several other new roms and they are all exhibiting this problem for me.
I also tried reverting to a previous backup of a different 5.0.1 ROM and the problem still exists, and I'm sure the problem wasn't in that ROM when I originally used it so maybe it's coming from somewhere else.
I might try reverting to a stock rom and see what happens

Repair with PC companion or flashtool with stock ftf
I have this LED problem even on my stock phone 4.4.4 and 5.0.2. haven't noticed battery drain
I think i have narrowed it down to a bad usb cable(s) not supplying enough power to charge the phone. I have replicated this many times
I don't think it's the cable, I've tried multiples and it will charge fine using the magnetic adapter, I can also access the device files without a problem (MTP/ADB).
I've flashed the latest stock ftf (specifically D6503_23.1.A.0.726_UK+Generic.ftf) and it now shows the newer charging screen when the phone is off and plugged in, but it still has the same problem. Even when powered off it doesn't charge properly, the percentage just goes down even though the LED is on and the screen says charging. If I unplug the usb cable the light stays on and it still indicates as charging and drains abnormally.
Thought I should also mention, no matter what ROM I use (stock/custom) the auto-rotate behaves weirdly and the screen will auto rotate even when the setting is off.
Edit:
If anyone else if having this problem, it is most likely due to the magnetic charger damaging the board:

Hopefully this is covered by warranty
