Is $250 (CAD) a good deal for this tablet?
I have a Moto Atrix as my smartphone, rooted.
I am interested in tablet for watching videos at home and reading pdfs and ebooks and suchm, as well as playing games.
I believe it is already running g-tab-comb but I would want to update it with something more recent.
I have the opporunity to get this or a dell streak 7 (sealed) for $250.
Is there still good dev support for this tablet? How does the future of it look
i had the gtablet, but sold it. Now with the Android market not showing the G tab on the website, I am sure glad that I sold the G tablet. Get the tablet that has paid the license to Google and has the real market (imho), in otherwords not the Gtablet.

Does that mean I wouldn't be able to access any apps from the market?

Maybe....for now. But it appears the GTab is being fazed out of Google Market.

The handwriting seems to be on the wall for the GTab.....sadly

You'd still be able to access the market via the app on the Gtablet itself. you just wouldn't be able to remotely install apps onto your tablet via the market website on a computer.
I use a GTablet (with FlashBack 10.0) I access the Market several times a day. I am able to download new apps, update older apps. No-- my device is not listed, but nevertheless I am able to use the Market.
I had been using an older version of the Market App, and with that I could not get new apps. I could update older apps just fine, but it would NOT download a new app: NO DEVICE. With the new Market App, I have no problems.

I sold mine a while back also. I would put that $250.00 towards something that might have a chance at some ICS love.
The Gtab's screen is great for video, but an IPS screen on a higher end tablet is a must for extended ebook reading. Also the market issue is very minor in my opinion.
I picked mine up less than a week ago, put FB 10.0 on it and I am already selling it and moving to a Transformer or Iconia. The display has really bad viewing angles, other than that it isn't too shabby.

I saw that today as well. (well my wife did). Still only $100 off a 16GB version, I told her not that great of a deal.
To the OP, my advise is not spend one dime with Viewsonic. They abandoned this product 3 months after it's release. Viewsonic has been nothing short of horrible regarding the GTab and it's customers that spent the $300-$400 last winter. I have a perfect one for $200 if you really want one, $225 with dock. It is rooted and running TNT lite 4.4.

HP Touchpad with Android? I didn't know that could be done. I know they were selling for $99 when they went belly-up. I would say go for it. Shipping would only be about $25 if you really want the GTab. I am also selling my Asus TF101 32GB getting ready for the TF201 32GB but that will be twice as much with keyboard dock.

Yup Cyanogen got CM7 running on it
Decisions, decisions..
Don't take it. Bunch of people complaints about HP touchpad with android on it.I pay my viewsonic $250 (4 days ago) and my friend pay $150 for his HP touchpad - I still like my deal and product more (didn't like stock tom). I can access market using Vegan rom and I can even backup apps on my phone and transfer them to g-tab.

I all you want is a decent 10" tablet running Gingerbread or Honeycomb at a low cost then gtab is one to consider. If you want ICS then you will have to get the lastest tablet (not yet available) with a killer cpu and lots of ram.
So your choices are
1. Low price 10" or 7" (nook color II or Amazon Fire)
2. Medium price 10" like a Acer Iconia, Toshiba or Asus Transformer
3. High price 10" currently being developed for the ICS (New tranformer quadcore etc)
Good luck and have fun.
Woot.com has the Motorola Xoom 32Gig Wifi for $329 today....
And Motorola has stated that the Xoom will get ICS early 2012.
Advantages over Gtablet..
32gig vs. 16gig storage
1280x800 vs. 1024x600 resolution
1 gig vs. 512 meg ram
GPS, Barometer, front and rear cameras
Better viewing angles
Official Google support/Motorola support
Android OS 3.2.1 with stated upgrade to Android OS 4.0
FYI...I have two Gtablets and an Xoom. I'd take the Xoom every day over the Gtablet.

I bought a Gtab from a seller in the US. shipping was about $23 BUT beware as the buyer in Canada will get hit with an extra $70 in duty fees for "importing" the tablet.
Are the tablets purchased from Gamestop using the same exact version of Android that the Prime tablets released form Best Buy or other places are using? Updates are not held back or reliant upon Gamestop getting their hands on the OS and adding/updating their stuff similar to how HTC or Samsung needs to modify the Android client on their phones are they? Is the device skinned at all by them or are there simply a couple of games added to the otherwise stock Prime?

Same OS version they just add the extra 5 games and some extra gamestop app like their gamestop app and infogamer which both are basically just web shorcuts. Then they shrink wrap it again and send them out. So far I haven't seen any major issue with them mishandling units. When I got mine I couldnt tell physically that it went to them first. However when you boot it up it goes straight to home screen rather than the usual android initial setup screen.
In light of the imminent iPad 3 launch I was seriously considering getting one.
When I told a friend he asked me: "Why an iPad?". My only answer was "I guess I'm brainwashed.".
Thus, I decided to browse around for Android tablets. I quickly found that there are very many of those.
I have an HTC Desire HD and am quite happy that there are still ROMs being made for it. I would like a tablet with at least a 10" screen. The price should be less than $300. What can you suggest that has good chances of being supported (on XDA) for a long time?
I've tried both kindle fire and nook tablet within the last two weeks and I'm keeping the nook. For $250 I had it home, rooted and running cm7 in less time than it took to drive home. I believe its a good value right now.
Isn't that like 7" only? I'd much prefer something bigger because I want to read PDF files without stupidly scrolling around!
Well, i have reveived my order from SpeMall for Ainol Novo 7 Elf two weeks ago, all 5 pieces of ELF are works fine and looks great in black... it's my second time to deal with them, i bought a tablet from spemall by the end of last Oct. i must confess i had doubts placing an order from a chinese website, but i had a good experience with them. Very nice.
It's a nice little machine, all works well for Internet surfing, music, youtube, skype....I think it will burn to the ground the kindle fire and the nook tablet
The iPad 3 will be well over $300. What are you comparing Apples with?
The only 10" Android tablet worth getting now is the Transformer Prime. Period.

+10000 The Transformer Prime is hands down the most incredible Android tablet out right now.
To the OP, what are you primarily looking for? Is it more important to have a tablet that is 10"? Or a tablet under $300? Or are you willing to come up from that price for a tablet with better specs?
Hate to break it to you, but you won't find any new 10" tablets that run for under $300. Most start at $400 and just go up from there. Unless, I guess, you search for refurbished, used, older models, etc. Otherwise, if you want to stay under $300, you are looking at a 7" tablet.
So apparently google's nexus tablet will be made by asus. Personally i think it will be the asus memo announced at CES.
Google and Asustek will unveil a 7-inch co-branded tablet PC as early as May, with the model targeting Amazon's Kindle Fire and to be priced at US$199-249, according to industry sources.

I do hope it is the 370t. 7 inch plus T3 best of both worlds.
I'd buy one, just for the hell of it, at $199. Hopefully Google will help subsidize this thing so they can hit that price point. A $199 ICS 7" Tegra 3 tablet with full Google services could be a killer. With the right promotions, it could compete nicely against an "iPad Mini."
Not that Android tablet makers (or Google, for that matter) have demonstrated an ability to effectively promote their products. But hey, there's always a first time!
Nothing's official yet. And as much as I like my TP, I seriously hope Asus won't be the one. None of their tablets has been perfect. So unless Google take over quality control, this could be a disaster.
Samsung is the way to go, but I guess after two hero phones, it's time to switch?

I thought the transformer 1 was well received and one of the best android tablets you could get one it was out? Also, asus only has 2 tablets on the market.
And I dont think you could say any manufacturer has ever put out a tablet that has been perfect. A case could be made for the ipad with the lack of flash and its restrictions and what not. Its all based on preference.

I would buy one also if its that cheap. Best band for buck. No tablet maker would have something that cheaply princely with that much power. It should be a no brainstorm to choose that over a kindle fire or nook color. I can't believe I got so impatient, right before I got the prime, that I couldn't find OG transformer for the black Friday price that I almost considered getting an acer100 7in. Or a kindle fire..lol. so glad I didn't. I did have my eye on Toshiba thrive bit heard too many horror stories on its battery life. I loved the fact it had full size USB ports. Although it had tegra2, the display model in store seemed to have decent speed to it. But it wasn't priced cheap enough. Then I heard about Prime for only 100 more and way more powerful. There was no turning back once I had my mind set on Prime.

Dont you hate word predict? lol.
I would buy it even at $250. As far as acer, I have an acer a100 now and its got leaked ICS, rooted, with buildprop changed to a500. Even has mod to make your micro SD as your internal. So you're not limited to 8gb or 16gb anymore. ICS made a huge difference. Smoother than prime in some cases like home screen and app drawer transition. Even stock browser is smoother. With the build.prop change I can see and play 90% of gameloft games. The only thing really sucks about it is when I HDMI out to TV it gets laggy due to only being dual core and ofcourse the battery life is only about 5 hours. I'll post a video in a bit so you can see how smooth it is.
But once the 370t comes out of course I have to get that to replace the a100.
Might take me a some time to record ICS but heres a video I made a while back when it was still on HC. So you can imagine how smoother it will be on ICS.
Everybody seems to forget that Google has bought Motorola mobility for a reason in addition to buying patents.
With Motorola, Google can build its own handset and its own tablet.

This is true but would show favoritism over other Android manufacturers. Causing them to pull out of Android scene. Which would hurt Google in the end. So its smart for Google to choose someone else to make new Google nexus device. It'll show they not favoring Motorola. Asus will likely be the creator of new Google Nexus tablet n it'll be powered by tegra3. With new reports now of Qualcomm S4 chips having manufacturing delays and setbacks, alot of new android devices that were going to use that chip will be delayed Now. Which leaves the door wide open for Tegra3 to continue being the top most powerful Android chip out there.
I've been down with the Transformer Tablet since Jan. Bought it off Office Depot after selling a Brand New Ipad 2 I won in a Christmas raffle, and purchased the dock right after. I wanted to like this Prime...BAD. I actually started to like the Prime after I rooted it. I dont want to turn this thread into a Prime bashing because like I said. I DO LIKE MY PRIME. My only gripe is the browser hanging so often for such an expensive tablet..
Also like with any technology, things get old and new tech follows. I wanted to hear what people thought about these new Amazon Tablets coming out. I posted a few links

They're popping up all over Google if u search for them. I had a friend of mine tell me Groupon was selling the Transformer on Groupon for $299 last week. However I told him it wasnt the same as the "Prime" and ended up seeing these Amazon tablets right after. I told him the specs "supposed to be" better then the Primes. He's putting an order in and I said I'd wait til he got one to see if I'd sell my self short by selling my Prime for a lower price to get 1 or if I'm better off keeping my prime..
Curious to hear what people thought.
Just keep in mind that you won't get any Google apps on a stock Amazon device. None. Nothing from Google Play, either. Amazon has a lot of the well-known Android apps, but not all of them.
Ya like the amazon app store is actually terrible. They have like a few casual games like angry birds and such.

dude, since you're rooted install browser2ram ... it makes one hell of a difference to browsing using the stock browser. I was amazed.
But yes, there's no comparison btwn Amazon's tabs and the Prime. If you accept the Prime is not perfect in every way, hang on for the JB update before judging.
