[Q] Siyah kernel - 3G disabled when screen is off? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I'm currently running Siyah 2.6.6i and Shep's MIUI 2.1.6v2. I'm having a weird issue that I've seen mentioned in the dev forums for the Siyah kernel, but nobody has mentioned a fix or suggested anything to try. Basically, when the screen on my device turns off while running on battery, the data connection turns itself off will not re-enable itself until I wake my phone, and sometimes I have to toggle airplane mode to get it to come back. This would be fine, as I'm on wifi 95% of the time, except when the data connection gets disabled, I no longer receive text messages, even on wifi. I've tried running both the OnDemand and Lulzactive scalings, but neither have made a difference. The only thing I've been able to do to fix this myself is to flash back over with the default MIUI kernel that comes with the build and not use the Siyah kernel.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Looks like nope

roll back to 2.6.6... seems that 2.6.6i is nothing but trouble for a lot of people.

2.6.7 works fine..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium

It must have been an issue with 2.6.6 and 2.6.6i. I installed 2.6.7 this morning, and it seems to have fixed the issue with text messages, however my battery life is suffering a little bit. I don't mind, as long as I can keep communications coming in.
Thanks for the suggestions!

[Q] Wifi Error after EB01 Froyo Upgrade

Since upgrading to the EB01 Froyo leak (debinged/deodexed) I have wifi issues where every 3 or 4 times I attempt to enable it, it will fail, and show "Error" under the Wi-Fi settings (where it ususally says in blue text "Turn on Wi-Fi", "Connecting..." "Connected to <network>", etc). I finally got the log message associated with it, and was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to address this?
From what I gather insmod is the kernel's mechanism for (in this case) loading the wifi driver, so this would be an issue with the kernel? So now what?
E/WifiHW ( 2467): return of insmod (args:firmware_path=/system/etc/wifi/bcm4329_sta.bin nvram_path=/system/etc/wifi/nvram_net.txt dhd_watchdog_ms=10 dhd_poll=1) : ret = -1, Invalid argument
At first I thought a reboot was necessary to get it to attempt to reload the driver, but I've since found clearing level 2 ram in the task manager does the trick. Still a big PIA though.
Thanks for any help.

I had the same problem until I flashed the EC10 kernel, hasn't happened since.

So, if I'm not mistaken I can just install the non-voodoo zip w/ Red CWM directly over EB01 with no wiping/cache clearing, etc, and be up and running with no data or configuration loss? Sounds like a pretty quick and easy way to fix my issue.
I haven't been following the EC10 thread, but I just took a look and looks like the static issue when the screen comes on during a call is fixed as well, the only other issue I've had.
Guess I may have to give it a shot! How long have you been using it?
KF
I've been using it for a couple days and have to say that it combined with SuperClean 2.9 has made my phone super smooth. I haven't found a single glitch so far.
Took the plunge and updated to EC10 last night. I've had only a brief time to play around with it, but so far so good with the wifi. Thanks for the help!
Could just be my mind playing tricks on me, but I could swear in general everything is more responsive as well... Not only loading apps, but when I brought up navigation this morning I've never once seen it lock on and start driving directions this fast.
Nevermind... Same problem still with EC10. Got my hopes up there for a minute.
I got the same problem with SC 2.9.2v and had with any other SC Froyo build. I'm using JuiceDefender so WiFi is turned on/off lot of times (every 15 minutes on schedule or when screen is unlocked). Usually once or twice a day I find that there is an error with WiFi and the only way to fix it is to wait couple of minutes and try turning it on manually or switch to airplane mode on/off.
I also use JuiceDefender w/ Wifi. If it doesn't occur less often with EC10 (too soon to tell still), I'll have to disable the wifi controls in JD so it's toggled on/off far less frequently.
Glad to see I'm not the only one seeing it. I bet the JD users will just notice it more since we are loading the wifi driver all the time.
Kidd_Funkadelic
And thanks for the airplane mode tip- I'll have to try that. I was clearing level 2 ram in task manager to do it. AM would be slightly more convenient.
jt1134's source build EC10 didn't help, still having same problem with WiFi. My log is showing the same thing.
At least the new kernel fixed the static issue. One thing at a time, right? I hope that this means there will be ED01 kernel drop
Actually, maybe April Fool's day is a bad choice...
What radio are you using? EB01?
Yes, I did the full Froyo update to EB01 over the stock 2.1 Verizon eclair, then installed the EC10 specifically for this issue. That's all I've done. Oh, went back into CWM after seeing the problem for a few days to clear the Dalvik cache. That's all I've done to date...
OK so it's not radio related but kernel/rom then. I'm on EA28 radio cause I had problems with missed calls with EB01.
Solutions? Bump?
Sorry for reviving this thread, but I have what I think is the same problem (on EB01).
My wifi always works after a reboot, but then if I turn it off and try and turn it back on, it gives me an error message until I either
A) reboot the phone
or
B) repeatedly turn it on and off again (usually takes 3 or 4 times to work again)
Anyone else having this specific problem or know how to fix it?

I was able to get rid if the problem by using Auto Killer Memory Optimizer. It turned out to be a memory issue. Use one of the preset profiles, like aggressive, and see how you do. I was having the problem several times a day and it never came back.
Or, upgrade to PWGB, which takes care if the problem too and doesn't require messing with memory mgmt settings...

[Q] GSB 2.8 / CM 7 Loosing Network

Been utilizing GSB and Ginger for a bit now and do not recall experiencing this particular issue before.
But since CM 7 and the SD Card tweak ... can't remember precisely when, it seems that I loose connection to the network after receiving calls. Maybe once or twice that I can't attribute to a call.
Rebooting fixes it and then I learned about the Airplane tip and that does it without a reboot.
Anyone else having similar issues or any ideas on what might be causing it?
Install procedure I have been following is the standard complete wipe, flash rom, flash GAPPS, set phone back up.
Thanks,
Collin
the only phones that can talk and use internet is Atat..so wen ur on a call ur network wont work.. only wifi.
Not quite the nature of my post. After ending the call the network is not connected even though it's on in settings.

Does anyone know if there is a way to remover launcher pro as a launcher after flashing GSB 2.8 and essentially run vanilla?

Didn't you already post this in a new thread? Also, your post has nothing to do with "losing network" so it's not nice to hijack an unrelated thread.
I've been losing my 3G connection, as well. There also seems to be an issue when using the notification power widget. Sometimes it will work perfectly turning it on and off. Other times it will light up when I want to turn it on, but 3G won't actually connect, then it is hard to toggle it back off. Not sure if it's a cm7 issue or not. It appears that the checkbox is checked in the "wireless and network" settings when the notification power widget is toggled "on" even when it isn't connecting.
Yeah after reviewing my posts and questions since March 12th or so when I joined XDA, I have not the issues that I am having now. From Ginger Tazz 12 through GSB 2.7 CM 7 RC4 things have been very enjoyable.
I have been following the standard routine since March about wiping, flashing rom then gapps.
I first noticed the issue with GSB 2.8 CM7 final. Just dealt with and was sure that it would go away in the next build but 2.9 hasn't changed much.
Losing the network has just become more random. Sometimes it returns after whatever causes which I thought was incoming calls but today I lost it after receiving an incoming text. Just odd.
I have also been experiencing exchange push issues which I didn't have before.
With posts on both forums reporting issues, I find it hard to believe the issues stem from Shed and Tazz both at the same time.

I've experienced this a couple times after calls, and even once while I was browsing the Amazon app store. I was in the middle of a page load and then my 3g was just gone. I also noticed that when this happens the cyan theme for the signal strength goes out. I usually get the network back by going into settings and disabling and reenabling the data. Its only happened a few times but still kinda weird. Oh I'm on gsb 2.8, planning on flashing 2.9 when I get back from my holiday..

My theme goes out as well. It turns white and gets bigger.

Having this same issue on 2.8. Disabling and re-enabling Mobile Data seems to do the trick, but only in the settings menu, not from the power widget.
Seems to roughly coorelate with making or receiving calls, but I am not 100% positive about that as it sometimes takes me a while to notice.
I'm going to try reverting to the stock theme and see if that makes a difference.

Just an update. The issue continued under 2.9 & 3.0.
Trying out GT and it occurs here as well.

this issue happens to me too on GSB v3.1. for me, it seems to happen pretty randomly, not after i make or receive a call. sometimes rebooting fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. sometimes turning on airplane mode then turning it off fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. another thing is that when i lose my network connection, my battery gets eaten up suuuuper fast, almost as if it's using a ton of battery trying to re-establish a connection. very annoying
I honestly have been experiencing low signal strength over many roms lately. which in turn, means quicker battery drain. wonder if it is more on the cellular side than the roms?
Haven't really noticed it happening with the latest roms. GSB 3.2 and higher. And not once on Condemned Soul.

SOD problems starting from WIFI

Hey all!
Just started this thread to explain something about SOD and phone SHUT DOWNS by itself.
I was NEVER BEFORE have these problems, like SOD or SHUT DOWN phone by itself, till now. I sure that it was related to one WIFI program, what I downloaded yesterday(Unlock With Wifi). Today I activated the app and I have phone SHUT DOWN by itself, like 3 times in hour. If I disabled the app, I solved the problem(for now I already UNINSTALLED that app).
Now I sure, that our SOD and S.DOWN problem not hardware problem, but SOFTWARE related problem.
I want to say you all, who have SOD or S.D...., look what app you have installed(what can use wifi) or in phone settings and try several times to configure your wifi(one of most: dont but your wifi to sleep, when screen is OFF), untill you solve you problem.
If you too know some examples, from you experience, then share with us here!
THX for reading!
Hope it will HELP someone.

I'll try if turning off wifi will help. It should if this is wifi related problem.

Hey!
Like I sayed, just try different things with WIFI settings. I think turning OFF wifi, will solve the problem, until you turning it back(when you have the problems). We will see, dose it solve the problem, if you turn OFF WIFI.
CHEERS!
You got the nail on spot. I was also in the same impression with SOD. Till now I'm not able to Figure out the app which cause this. But yes this is software issue rather than hardware. I also read else where that the SOD cause because of the lower voltage supplied to processor during sleep with which its not able to get itself up from sleep. Not sure...
I have a app that turns the wifi off when I lock the screen (dont remember which one of my apps!) so I havent experience it for awhile.
Sleep as an droid has a feature that shuts down the sleep tracker at a certain procentage (I chose 20%), instead of shutting the sleep tracker down, it shuts down the whole phone. Both of the times that i got SOD my phone had 20% left of its battery, so it was pretty obvious what caused it.
Sleep bot tracker is a great app if you forget to shut down your wi-fi before going to bed. Make it a habit to track your sleeping time, in the same time ull make it a habit to turn you wifi off. It has a built in function that shuts off the wifi when u start tracking your sleeping time. This app does not bring you and SOD.
What, but the general advise to sod had always been to check wifi always on...

I noticed that this problem is only for those who are using the older firmwares including XXKPH or the ROMs whose base are 2.3.4 KPH.
Haven't encountered this problem in the Samsung July 2011 release of 2.3.3 (KPN). But I guess, this is a good post for those who are still experiencing this.
For now, I'm just happy with KPN (that's why I'm not as active before here in the forums).
Before I flashed to 2.3.4 KPH, my Wifi worked flawlessly.
Now my Wifi reception is extremely limited (I have to be in direct line of sight to the router within 2 meters to be able to get a stable connection)
and
I get those dreaded SoDs (sleep of deaths).
My question:
Is it possible to flash only the modem file of 2.3.3 to try whether that works?
If yes, will my current system be wiped if I only flash the modem file?

If you don't use the video chat in Google Talk, then why not just flash 2.3.3 KPN?
The only new feature in 2.3.4 is the video chat in Google talk. Most bug fixes are now in the July 2011 release of 2.3.3 KPN.
Yes, I'm contemplating to do that.
But as I've spent a bit over a weeks time to set my system up, I would like to know if it's possible to just flash the modem without touching the already working system.
edit: I see KPN is a single file flash, so I won't be able to flash only the modem. Ok, backup and downgrade it is.
I've only experienced SOD once... But I always have wifi off. Just on when I'm going to use it. Afterwards I turn it off and good bye SOD issue

Hey!
Dont know exactly, but I think that you can restore your system settings and other system things, with TITANIUM BACKUP. Backup the ALL SYSTEM DATA in batch menu. Go to TITANIUM BACKUP>Menu>batch. Pick: backup all system data and RUN THE BATCH. After that, flash you ROM(what ever you want) and try to restore all system settings from TITANIUM B.. Ofcourse, what ever happens, I suggesting you do NANDROID BACKUP from CWM recovery, before you start anything. If nothing works(or **** happens), you can RESTORE ALL FROM NANDROID BACKUP.

Update: I flashed 2.3.3 KPN and did a factory reset.
The SOD problems are gone now,
but
the bad wifi reception still remains. (Connection to router only works within an extremely close range)
If I cannot find a fix for this problem I might try out a froyo firmware.
Did anybody have a similar problem? Would really appreciate some hints.

Hey!
I think its not ROM-s problem. Try look your Router settings and phone settings. I think something is not right in PHONE or ROUTER settings. Not seen this kinde of problem YET, with ANY ROM. Try to look.
One question: dose you not DROP you phone or similar? I seen little problems can happen, even nothing SERIOUS was done(like speaker, wifi and other HARDWARE problems).

[Q] Battery issues

Hi,
Once I updated to ICS I god battery issues right away. I started searching the web and got into rooting and custom ROMS.
Right now I'm running Resurrection Remix 2.6.1 with Siyah v.3.4.1 and android verison 4.0.4, but I still have troubles with my battery lifetime.
I've downloaded BetterBatteryStats to find out what is cautioning my phone to drain my battery so fast. I've found that my phone has troubles going into deep sleep while wifi is on. Furthermore using the phone while wifi is turned drains even more battery. Yet I don't know what is the reason for this. Is it an app or what could it be? Anybody who can tell me how I can see that more specifically, so that I don't manually have to turn wifi on and off.
Here is some screenshots showing how my phone performs while not at use, first with wifi turned on and then with wifi turned off.
Hope somebody can help me out!
First off I'd reccomend you to check if somebody else got the very same problem, you could go and check advanced setting in WLAN config to see if you have any type of wlan power management setting enabled...
Later on I'd also say you may try to get another kernel just to try it out...
Using Siyah latest version might solve wifi issues. Drivers were updated in later versions of the kernel.

The same thing happens to me but whats weirder is that it only happens when i go to the gym! It never happens anywhere else but there and it takes a long time to turn the phone back on. I've gotten to the point where i have to shut it off while I'm at the gym before it shuts itself off. So i cant really use it there anymore. Its really annoying. I also get a blue-screen but it doesn't happen as much as it use to.

I had sleep of death issues on the stock 4.1.2 ROM. I think usb debugging or something in developer options was causing it. Now I don't have sleep of death issues anymore. I have developer options and usb debugging disabled. I also checked disable wifi on sleep. Some posts said it was a wifi issue, others said that it an app compatibility issue. I'm not sure what causes it. I'm just happy that I no longer have issues.
Had the same issue. Switched to pa 3.99 RC 2.
I have the same issue on my phone, it happens over every single rom I have used, and I have tested just about all of them, (Pandroid, Carbon, Liquidsmooth, rootbox, beanstalk.. just to name a few) The only rom that did not SOD was the stock rom, but I have no idea why. My theory is something happens after the first week of use that is clogging up the phone in the system somewhere, because I never get a SOD until after a bit of use. I will be looking more into it after exams this week, and I will keep you guys posted in what I find.
