[Q] Battery issues - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Once I updated to ICS I god battery issues right away. I started searching the web and got into rooting and custom ROMS.
Right now I'm running Resurrection Remix 2.6.1 with Siyah v.3.4.1 and android verison 4.0.4, but I still have troubles with my battery lifetime.
I've downloaded BetterBatteryStats to find out what is cautioning my phone to drain my battery so fast. I've found that my phone has troubles going into deep sleep while wifi is on. Furthermore using the phone while wifi is turned drains even more battery. Yet I don't know what is the reason for this. Is it an app or what could it be? Anybody who can tell me how I can see that more specifically, so that I don't manually have to turn wifi on and off.
Here is some screenshots showing how my phone performs while not at use, first with wifi turned on and then with wifi turned off.
Hope somebody can help me out!

First off I'd reccomend you to check if somebody else got the very same problem, you could go and check advanced setting in WLAN config to see if you have any type of wlan power management setting enabled...
Later on I'd also say you may try to get another kernel just to try it out...

Using Siyah latest version might solve wifi issues. Drivers were updated in later versions of the kernel.

[Q] Sleep Of Death On Galaxy Ace

Hello xda-developers.
So I have some bug or something on my Samsung Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830), it's called the sleep of death if I'm correct. Well I had a stock from (2.2.1 floyo) preloaded on my device and i heard that (2.3.3) should work better on my device so i upgraded it and noticed the screen of death and it kinda worries me what to do about it. I've tried also custom roms and they were pritty buggy so i installed some stocked floyo back on and upgraded via Kies to 2.3.3 but it seems the bug is back :S. It happend like 4-5x times today so I was woundering if any one had any fixes or and thing that might help?
Thanks for the replay.
Sorry for bad english and my first post btw .
Sleep off death (SOD) is rare on a stock firmware
Tried to do a wipe data/factory reset?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I tried it on that first os when i got SOD but when the os is clean like installed it works great didn't get any problems... but when i install some programs when i turn the screen of it goes to a sleep and can't do any thing ... it's like its off but it rings if any one calls me, but it doesn't show when I turn it on that any one called me.
It's kinda annyoing when you try to do something on your phone (try calling some one) and the screen doesn't come on again...
I has woundering if there is any solution or any thing.
Sorry for bad english.
Hey!
just read THIS.
CHEERS!
thx casiocas ... so i see that i'm not just one of the "unlocky" i guess ther's a problem in the software
Anyone who's SoD just started recently, did you enable overscroll glow?
Because my SoD started right after enabling it.
When going back they are gone.
Tap-a-talked from my Galaxy Ace
No not since i enabled overscroll, but when i flashed cf-root it started. Back on stock again there gone now 4 two weeks.

Solution for SOD caused by WiFi
I always had SODs with every ROM i tried (stock / updated stock / VillianROM / FirstUA)...
The solution for me was to install 'Advanced Wifi Lock'! I'm now using it with FirstUA 1.2 ROM for almost 2 weeks now without any SOD!
Search for it in the Market and see if it works for you!
@Hatshipuh : Then try this solution! I had the same problems!
The problem for me is just the occurence of SoD when I have Wifi on and connected, and then e.g. walk out of range, so Wifi still on but not connected. Then it shuts off within 30min. I just have to not forget to turn Wifi off when I don't use it or no signal.
Still never had SoD while Wifi is connected though, no matter the display is turned on or not, so no need for Wifi Lock.
But that's only after enabling overscroll glow.
i have been sod free since i flashed to stock 2.3.3 kpn. its been 2 weeks

I think it's interesting to let wifi turned on.
If there's an available network, the phone syncs and stuff. If there isn't, then it does nothing.
What does this Advanced Wifi Lock do?
I've noticed my phone just have the SoD when it lost the Wifi connection. It was happening with stock Rom as well. Now I'm using Glsmt.
first ua
I had SOD like a 8 times for a week but i have not it anymore because i have flashed First UA Rom last week.Seems to be very very stable rom. Try it guys very smooth and stable and also the speed is just amazing.

[Q] Siyah kernel - 3G disabled when screen is off?

I'm currently running Siyah 2.6.6i and Shep's MIUI 2.1.6v2. I'm having a weird issue that I've seen mentioned in the dev forums for the Siyah kernel, but nobody has mentioned a fix or suggested anything to try. Basically, when the screen on my device turns off while running on battery, the data connection turns itself off will not re-enable itself until I wake my phone, and sometimes I have to toggle airplane mode to get it to come back. This would be fine, as I'm on wifi 95% of the time, except when the data connection gets disabled, I no longer receive text messages, even on wifi. I've tried running both the OnDemand and Lulzactive scalings, but neither have made a difference. The only thing I've been able to do to fix this myself is to flash back over with the default MIUI kernel that comes with the build and not use the Siyah kernel.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Looks like nope

roll back to 2.6.6... seems that 2.6.6i is nothing but trouble for a lot of people.
2.6.7 works fine..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
It must have been an issue with 2.6.6 and 2.6.6i. I installed 2.6.7 this morning, and it seems to have fixed the issue with text messages, however my battery life is suffering a little bit. I don't mind, as long as I can keep communications coming in.
Thanks for the suggestions!

[Q] Some issues in Android 4.0.3 on Galaxy S II

I've recently upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S II to Android 4.0.3 (COA - Romania) using Samsung Kies.
I sometimes have an issue:
- when I click the WiFi icon on status bar to activate wireless connection it partially gets green and stays locked for about 1-2 minutes. This happens every 6 or 7 attempts to connect using wireless. What can I do? I've already made a "Factory reset".
Another issue is:
- when I start wireless connection or the data connection from my network operator the phone locks and shuts down.
I know spotted these two issues cumulate: when Wi-Fi gets unresponsive and my phone's screen goes off, I can't start my phone.
After I restart it my battery is 14 percents lower.
Is there any solution?
same issues
I have the same issuses as described above by pykko, and beside that i have to charge my battery once in every 10-12 hours because it gets empty real fast. I don't play or watch movies on it. And i don't keep the mobile data or wireless on, only when i use them.
I have to mention that i didn't experienced these issues before updating to 4.0.3 (COA-Romania).
Any help would be apreciated. Thanks.
Many people have this wifi toggle issue including me but I read many posts saying that DXLP9 has fixed this issue.
you probably should upgrade or find a custom rom with DXLP9 base or u might wanna try VK's rom its XWLP9 but according to the posts they say its fixed .

Thats when ur phone sleeps and never wakes up, I also experinced this problem its refered to as SoD(Sleep of Death), it has been more common in XWLP9(kernel to sepcific)
My recommedation is for you to upgrade to a new rom DWLP9 or the other new ones which came after XWLP9
OR
or you can try a custom rom, I found VK's rom( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1559009 ) its based on XWLP9 but not the kernel and its the same as the stock but themed to ICS, so I find it nice athough I didnt try it yet .

[Q] Wifi causing battery drain (15%/hr)

Hi all.
For the last month or so I have been unable to use wifi because it drains my battery too fast. I have had this problem with Litening rom 3.1-2, Sensation Rom, running the stock rom, using stock kernels, litening kernel, siyah... I have no idea what else to try. I have wiped data, all of the caches, reflashed, bricked, fixed the brick, and still dont know what to do. Does anyone have any advice?
Thank you in advance.
Given everything you've tried, that's obviously a router issue. Maybe update your router firmware or try another router. Definitely not a phone issue. There's something in your router settings causing it, you could also do a factory reset on the router as well (make a note of all your settings first) & remove all encryption, then add back settings one by one in order to try and isolate what's causing it.
I dont have a problem with my computer or any other devices on my home router. And the phone has battery drain when wifi is on, not necessarily connected even... The one thought i had that might be connected to my home router is that it disconnects and reconnects every 5 seconds when on my home router.

Try this...on your wifi settings go to Advanced then on Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep. choose Only when plugged in or Never. This will turn-off your wifi when your phone is sleeping.
Also, the drain can be caused by other applications not necessarily your wifi. Use BetterBatteryStats to check the wakelocks.
This is from the fluxi kernel thread:::
Q: Wakelocks "wlan_rx_wake" wake up my device constantly what I can do about it?
A: The problem is neither Android nor the kernel, but the router and the (Windows7) network. In the network properties, uncheck "IPv6", disable the service "IP Helper", "Shell Hardware Detection" and "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service", which provide ongoing Traffic. Then they scored again 98% of deep sleep.

Have You tried a ICS 4.0.4 CM9 nightly??? They are very stable and muuuuuch better than the stock ROMs. I've got WiFi on all the time and still can reach over a 24hrs with screen on for aprox. 4hrs..... Maybe this will work for You.

Im gonna try this next. But why do you think that the problem only just started in May? Ive had the same router set up since November...

Losing network signal while charging

I use a lot of internet sharing (wireless). I noticed that when I start charging battery my phone is dropping signal network after a while. When I switch the screen back on, signal comes back. it's very annoying and it doesn't happen when phone is not charging. At first I thought its rom/kernel/modem related but problem remains with different combinationsb of above.
Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
Do your RIL and Baseband match?

I guess so. Usually I use modem provided with rom. It looks like phone was going to deep deep sleep that it even loses network service and it wakes up when screen turns on. But as I said it happenes only when charging and, I think, only when I use internet sharing.
edit:
just checked with getril app and it says unknown ril so cant really tell if they match. I've put a NEAT rom 3.5 just today and didn't have chance to check wheather it still there or not but i guess it will still be there.
Your RIL and modem can change. The modem is up to the rom maker, they decide which one to use wheras your RIL stays the same from what you had on stock rom, unless you changed it of course

First of all, sorry for asking the same question twice (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1489237), but this thread seems to describe my problem even better.
I am using the latest Cyanogenmod 10 nightly on my Galaxy i9100, and it appears as if I have a similar problem. When I start charging my battery, the signal usually drops after a while. This is quite annoying, because I use my phone as WLAN hotspot. Rebooting the phone (charger connected) does not solve the problem. Instead, I usually have to unplug the cable and after that the phone quickly picks up a signal again.. I also tried to switch the airplane mode on/off. But then I cannot switch the airplane mode off again, so something really seems to be hanging. In these situations, the baseband version shows 'unknown'.
I have just used the app GetRil to confirm that the Ril and baseband version are matching.
Has anybody solved this problem? Is this a hardware or software issue? Are there any things I could test or should I provide more information?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Guys' though I've never experienced this issue with wi-fi hotspot, I do know why the wifi turns off when your phone is charging.
So to settings > wifi> press menu button> choose advanced
you'll see an option what says "keep wifi on during sleep" or something of sorts. The default is set to "never". You guys need to change it to "always".
Cheers

Sorry for the confusion, but I think you got me wrong. It is not the WLAN connection that drops. It is the mobile network connection that drops, so I cannot make/receive calls or use the 3G connection anymore.
Update:
Didn't find solution, flashed back sammy stock rom with custom kernel and all problems vanished. Using stock rom since than and never had this problem again.

Just for the records: I could also solve this issue by flashing a stock rom again. This must be a problem of Cyanogenmod.

I had this problem too and all I had to do was turn off fast charging in the settings
I think it turns off or lowers the strength of the network so it could charge faster and that's why it does this
I don't know much about tech so it might only help with my phone ( which is the Samsung a12 ) but I also hope it helps you too
Good luck
