[Q] Jazzing up the Motoblur...? - Motorola Droid X2

Hi there fellow Droid X2 ers...
Im looking to theme my droid x2 a bit. I want to keep the Motoblur. I know, I know. but i like the way it looks compared to the other roms that i have tried. Eclipse for one and Gingerfunk. I really like Gingerfunk cuz its the same thing as the orignal. But I would like to change it up a bit. ie. Battery, Call screens, and some other fun stuff that I can add to my phone. Just wanted to make it how I want it to look. So please can someone point me in the right way. I tried uot kitchen. Cant really get it to work. so please help a noob out. Thanks guys and looking foward for some pointers.

Uot kitchen should work to be honest. There are two types of scripting. Make sure to use amend scripting under the upload tab.

Girly Roms

I am trying to find some roms that cater to the women who have rooted and want a girly look to their phone. I flashed Droid Does Pink to my phone last night and love the girly feel to it..it is sense based and is overclocked. I also downloaded the hello kitty icon pink icon pack for use with the better cut app to further complete the girly look. I am loving the fact that there is so much pink on my phone..dialer, clock, battery widget, etc ALL PINK!!! Any ideas and suggestions are welcomed. Or if there is anyone reading this that makes custom roms please make some for the ladies. Thanks
Glad to hear you were able to customize to your taste. There aren't many (or any) "girly" roms because not too many girls like to get this technical with their phones. Good to see there is at least one though.

There may not be any technical women who want to root their phones but I'm also thinking along the lines of guys who root phones for their women. I found a purple rom but I think it was for the motorola droid.
I didn't think I'd want to root but once I found the easy root thread and jumped in head first its not as bad as I thought. Customizing is fun..now I'm trying to learn to partition my card and change my lock screen!

there is a theme (for eris phones) that's all pink. I think it's called "Droid Does Pink" or a variation of that.

I can empathize with this situation.
Rooted my gf's phone just to put it fully on Cricket - would be nice to have a Pink SenseUI ROM with the July 24 OTA.
You could also use a rom that can use metamorph for themes. I know there was at least one pink metamorph theme(pink ice or something like that) that was compatible with my cyanogen 2.1 rom. I think roms with metamorph give you a little more options in that regard. I actually made Droid Does Pink rom so that my wife would let me root her phone as their were no girly roms or themes at that time at all.
Thanks conap for your rom! I really like it! Is metamorph compatible with the droid does pink as well

No metamorph won't work with that rom.

I'm also interested in the "purple" rom for my wife's Eris. Captiankrtek when do you think your rom will be out and will it be sense, or froyo?
Conap I love your work also! My wife loves the droiddoespink theme but it's a sense rom and she's been on kaosfroyo for a while and loves it. Any way you can make an update.zip for just the droiddoespink theme so that it can be applied to other roms??
I have to say that most women probably don't get into the technical aspects of their phones, but for some reason, I totally geeked out on mine. It freaks my husband out a little, I think. He helps me with my car, I fix his phone. It works well.
Coming from this perspective, I hope we aren't going to see an explosion of pink android themes... pretty please. Stick with the badass stuff like usual.
In more and more posts I see devs talking about rooting/testing with their wives' phones. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea if a dev worked on a small line of girlied out ROMS for the ladies. My ma would love a purple or skyblue one :wink wink:

I am very interested in this purple Rom for my sister...I am going to root her phone and she is purple obsessed. How is the progress coming on it? I actually found one in the Droid forum and requested a port. It looks awesome.
I was wondering if the purple version is finished and if you can release it or link to download. Plus purple is my wife's favorite color.
Thank you.

I'm a lady, and I don't feel compelled to roll my phone in pink...
I sort of like the "boyish" themes.
Does anyone know where I can get the icons from the Droid Does Pink Rom?

Build.prop changes limited on Fascinate?

First off everyone here at XDA is amazing and I appreciate all the knowledge everyone brings to the table.
I came from the Droid X and I noticed our build.prop file has nothing in it compared to the X. Does anyone know if there is another place to change some of this stuff (proximity, ring delay, etc.) or is it just locked in the programming? Thanks and sorry if this is a noob question.

I noticed this, and I used to have a Droid. It may be because of Froyo. I'm not sure.

[Q] CM7 and General Questions

Ok, right off the bat I want to say that I'm not an idiot when it comes to computers/technology so I don't want to be babied when I ask this. I am new to Android, but not new to Linux by any stretch of the imagination. I didn't get this phone because Verizon advertised it as being a good phone, but because I knew that my first Android should be a beast.
Off of my rant, I was doing some research and I am willing to do some dev work or work with devs on on CM7 for the X2 directly or indirectly.
That being said, I know that CM7 is a ROM, but I was reading about kernels for CM7. Is this REALLY necessary? I know with a locked bootloader we can't do kernels yet, but do we need it? And if not? Where do I begin if I wanted to help?
I've done a decent (not too much, but decent) amount of work in this area (I've built more custom Linux kernels than fingers and toes on my whole family). But locked bootloaders and porting entire OS's is a bit over my head.
Long question short, are the CM kernels needed? or just recommended? and if not, where do you think we really need to begin?
(Sorry for the length)
Thank You, everyone.

I want to develop for the Thunderbolt

Hey guys, basically I'm here to ask what kinda roms most users of the Thunderbolt like to use. I been playing with an idea to do something for yall. I don't have a Thunderbolt though so it wouldn't be anything sharp like ICS. I would probably want to do something based off of yalls OTA just to sort of get the feel for things first. I've did about 8 roms for the HTC Droid Incredible so I could kinda find my way without to much help I guess.
Anyways, I'm not sure if I will or not. i just wanted to see what yall think first.
I'll put in a poll to help decide.
well the answer to will I work on this device is starting to look pretty much answered, lol. We'll see though.
hell yeah wildstang,
glad to see you over here, loved your roms, as well as jermaines ran em both on my dinc
Build it and they will come....lol

Thats a good concept. I just wouldn't want to put to much effort into something that I would never get to see or use my self especially if others here don't really want it. But I'm just gonna leave this open for a little while longer. Who knows, maybe I'll get a hundred votes tonight, lol
one thing that absolutely kills a rom for me is if I am unable to change apn settings
this is because I need to change them for mms to work on my carrier (cricket). If I cant change em, i cant use the rom. That is one thing i liked across yours and jermaines roms.
I knew instantly when i got my dinc I was a sense fan (in my opinion its way better than aosp interface) but as sense versions got higher 2.0 2.5. 3.0......... It really slowed my phone down compared to aosp roms...................... and then i found the minimalist roms............. and i was in heaven
so make a minimalist sense rom............... lol
I got rid of my inc before i found your roms but have been loading them on my friends inc, and i can say that they were smooth for me. Wouldn't mind dropping one of yours on my thunderbolt. After you figure your way around maybe a possible sense 3.5 rom! Just saying that'd be great. haha
I really like gingeritis3d by chingy510.. He has slowed down on his development do to school though.
What I like about his rom is that it is 2.1 based. 2.1 roms run alot better on my tb. He has added the 3d carrousel which I think most people look for and he incorporated the sexy smooth rosie that was developed by someone else here on xda.
The rom could benefit with more tweaks options, like 4g toggle and more quick settings. just my 2 cents. Thanks for your interest in deving for the bolt!
I personally use liquid gingerbread, its fast, light, and highly customizable. Please please please stay away from sense 3.5.
I know ill get flamed but please include the music player with beats Some people like that "eq" setting, and if they don't like it they don't have to use it.
Second the above post not a fan of sense 3.5
