[Q] Does your Titan freeze when playing back videos? - HTC Titan

Hoping we get as many people chiming into as possible
As the title says - Does your Titan freeze when playing back videos - from youtube or otherwise?
Please post if it is carrier branded - with the carrier name and if it is developer/chevron unlocked - and if possible what OS version you are using
And if it is freezing - what type of video's its freezing on.
-----------------------------------------
I'll start the ball rolling
Mine will freeze and hang on video's when playing back video's from youtube - video's taken with the build in camera - video's from other sites as well
Phone is AT&T branded but unlocked for use in Canada - developer unlocked through microsofts developer program
OS version: 7.10.8107.79 - but was freezing since i got it

No freezes on any videos, YouTube, camera videos, or otherwise. My "Sound Enhancements" settings are both set to "off" though, for what it's worth.

No issues for me too, and I also have Sound Enhacements set to Off.

Absolutely no freezing video issues with my device (at&t branded running on at&t's network).
My sound enhancer settings are on though.

OK i never noticed this when playing videos but i got like a couple of seconds of freezing when playing graphic intensive games (ie. Hot Pursuit) turned the SRS off in Videos and it works fine now. No more freezing in gaming

No freezing or anything here... AT&T US branded model. Sound enhancements set to off.

I DO have freezing and already inquired about it here with no resolutions.
Freezes in all the same places OP mentioned. I'm using the ATT model, unlocked on Telus. Doubt it's carrier specific. Also found out I'm using one of the earlier models with defective ram. Not sure if that's directly related or not.
Lag seems to go away only if the video is 100% buffered first. Also only seems to be present with online videos not ones saved on the phone.
HTC sound enhancements make no difference, only in gaming.

How do you check which model you have and which ones contain defective ram - have you tried contacting HTC about this?

Why htc titan had lag YouTube videos and games is laggy too?
How do you mean Lag in YT videos? Are you using cellular data or WiFi? Which games seem to be lagging for you? I can honestly say i've not experienced this.
Got no lag on my Titan at all, quite the opposite.
No issues of lag. If even so, WP7 is even more responsive and snappier than windows mobile on the HD2 and android gingerbread on the samsung note.
Hello,

It is so that the buffering is a lot faster than the movie play.
But the movie stock's... when the buffering is 100% the movie play without

Edit: Behind a Hardreset no Problems but when install more Apps the Problems beginn...
I have testet: Hardreset no Problem in Youtube than install Navigon and the lag is there
I have testet: Hardreset no Problem in Youtube than install ca. 10 Apps and the lag is there
Sorry for my bad english
Maybe this needs to be reported to youtube so that they can update the app
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using XDA App
It is no Problem of App's... it's a Problem of Titan.

Don't return it yet. Turn off the srs sound enhancement. it's noted to cause lag in games and videos.

Yep, you only need to turn it off for audio though i believe. This should fix the lag.

I had pretty terrible lag during certain games like Sonic but reading another thread that was posted here, I disabled the SRS audio enhancement and it fixed the issue for the gaming. Maybe disabling the video for the Youtube would help out.
0 issues here.
Try turning off the sound enhancements in settings. the default is SRS, turn all of them off. Should fix some of the lag/stuttering.
I have the sonic issue as well but nothing else. Movies are fantastic and I think the video playback is second to none.

Clone and netflix issue

I have a new 1.5g dual sim clone s4. It is running Jellybean 4.2.1. Everything works well except for Netflix. Youtube runs great, video capture is good. I read the forums and did a search, most of the info is before this type of chip is used. I need help fixing the phone. netflix will only do audio, and it will show the captions. We can use the tool bar to fast froward the movie and it will show the movie clips, yet when it buffers to that point in the movie it will buffer and the screen goes dark (video won't play at all) but my question is this, WHY? what had occurred in the chinese making these knockoffs that this would happen? I have tried older versions of Netflix, called netflix, troubleshot the phone with them and no luck.
I have rooted my kindle, I have rooted my HP pad, but this seems to be a minor issue with the phone and 4.2?
Simply reloading a new rom or "here's a new download" doesn't answer the question of why is this happening???? Is it a simple fix I am not seeing? These phones are unlocked and supposedly rooted already, what am I missing? Thanks from a father who wants to learn............

Music and video problems with LG G Stylo (Boost)

I've been having a problem since I got my LG G Stylo from Boost. When watching videos and listening to music using any app capable of doing so, the video or music will pause itself randomly and after a bit it will start playing again or it will play after I manually un-pause it. I'm not sure what's causing it. I know some newer and more expensive phones have features that will pause video if the phone detects that you aren't looking at it but these features usually apply to video, not music and even at that my phone doesn't seem to have that feature as I cannot locate a setting control for it. This happens in any app that can play video including videos played in Chrome and it happens in any app that is capable of music playback, which the only two I have are the native music app and Google Play Music. I've read on the internet that it could be caused by another app on my phone but I don't have any apps capable of doing this. I've also read that this can happen when switching networks but my phone is on WiFi most of the time and only switches to 4G when leaving the house which isn't that often. I don't see any reason why this would be happening. I've never had this problem with any other phone and I don't really have any apps on this phone that I didn't have on my last phone. Note that this is my first phone running Lollipop (5.1.1) and I'm starting to think that Android itself is the culprit but I'm not sure. I recently rooted my phone but the problem existed before that and I had the phone for over a month before I attempted root. This is really annoying and I'd like to be able to fix it so anything helps, thanks.
yeah
Resolved the issue. It was Telegram 3.5.1 that caused the problem. I'm on 3.6.1 Now and the issue has gone.

LGV30+ video playback problem

I'm looking for a solution for a video playback problem my LG-H930DS (SEA) has after the 8.0 Oreo update. When I start the phone everything is working well, but after a few minutes of normal usage the built-in videoplayer cannot play video recordings made by the phone itself. It says "Cannot play video - This file type is not supported" Then I have to restart the phone to get it working again. But it fails nearly every day. I wouldn't mind this failing because I can choose a different app to play the gallery videos, but the problem is that Snap-chat videos fail to play as well when this happens, until next restart. That's the bug I cannot have. Also when the phone gets into the state of not playing videos, the ringtones and alarm clock make no sound.
To start the problem I only have to open a few random web pages in chrome, open the gallery a few times, play some videos , and in a few minutes of this usage video playback crashes. MX player, VLC and youtube still work though.
I have done a lot of troubleshooting for this problem:
Full restore of the phone
Flashed different firmwares, H930DS20b, H930DS20d, and the european variant H93020d
Tried with no apps installed, other then preinstalled ones
Tried it in safe mode
But the problem always remains.
I always use the same google account. And after upgrading to 8.0 the problem does not seem to start until I restart the phone for the first time, after that it's constantly failing. Don't know if it starts when the memory gets close to full or not, but nothing else is failing on the phone.
I have now downgraded my phone to the Android Nougat 7.1.2 (H930DS10d) and this problem is not there, no matter how hard I try to replicate it.
I can only find one link on google where this problem is reported. (problem #6)
I have contacted LG Support, and they had never heard about this, and wanted me to send my phone in for repairs. But I'm not willing to pay for shipping from Europe to Asia, if this is just a software problem.
Is someone else getting this problem, or does know a fix or a workaround for it? Or is there a way for me to view the errors the phone is running into?
Sorry for the long post, hope someone is willing to read it and give me a little help
I finally found out what the problem is. It's actually just media files in the storage I use every day. These files only contain audio, but have the extension .ts. Video playback on the phone fails because the gallery is trying to create thumbnails of them to display. The workaround for the problem was to place a .nomedia file in the folder containing those files, to hide them from the gallery. After that the problem stopped. I've been using these files for years, and it has never been a problem until Android 8.
have you tried some other video player?
stock one is quite basic and thin.
Hi, yes I do use another players, but the gallery is failing video plaback in snapchat and stopping ringtones and alarms from working aswell, without using the stock player.
Same problem here with LG V30
I have the same problem with my phone I have the T-Mobile V30 and I have the same issue. I figured out not to take videos in 4k [email protected] works fine. But the moment I create a video at 4k it either starts playing and stops midway with sound continuing to play with frozen picture or it just says it doesn't support the video.
I've been using LG phones ever since the G2 and never had any other phone or any problems with them. This one though is getting really annoying.
I hate these Q&A format threads with a passion. I wish people would just open regular threads...

Have you tried other video players like VLC, MXPlayer?
Yes sir I did many players and VLC is always on all my devices and it also gets stuck. I'll try the .nomedia file and see how that works
And I have a problem with the smoothness of video playback in gallery, whether it's a bluray movie in mp4/mkv FHD format, or from camera in FHD or in 4k is always on Android 8.0 I have a delicate jam, how would he lose single frames every 0.7sec ~ 0 , 25sec. I came back for testing on 7.1.2 and it is perfectly smooth always, as soon as I updated to 8.0 version 20d or the latest 21h there are jam ... how b was an oreo error, quite a few friends did not catch up with this problem, I'm a perfectionist and I look at every detail whether it's a video or sound, that's why I chose the highest model of the phone.
LG releases more patches (already 4) and as soon as it appears oreo are staples. You can see that this is a pfroblem with support for video caps because MX Player also has micro jams on the hardware codec.
Interestingly, youtube is fluid.
I only hope that the Android Pie will be improved.
I'm having the same problem as well please let me know when you will find the solution to this problem of smoothness of video
At first it was running smooth AF but after some time i noticed the problem after 1 day of use.
Reseting the phone didnt work.

Lag and lost frames in youtube hdr

hello to all, greetings from Spain, I open this issue because since last Friday I am the new owner of lg v30, but I have a problem that I do not like at all, and I would like to know if the same thing happens to you too
on YouTube, I've put some videos of these shows to see the screen and others, and I noticed that the videos in 1080p60 are pretty lag, and quite annoying frame losses, like stoppages, (in one of Youtube videos, a demo of LG, a red car comes out, and happens to be next to the camera and the next frame is already 2 meters, I do not know if I explain) and I'm quite fussy about this issue, what I put the same video to 1080p also in a leeco le pro 3, and it looks fluidisimo, perfect .... why can this be? Someone else happens?
I do not know if you can put links, if you can please tell me and I'll post the video so you can try it if you can see it well
Another question, does your phone heat up? is that I notice it hotter than the leeco, as soon as I put some video like this 1080p60 gets tempered by the area of the camera, I do not know if that is normal or not
Thank you very much and hopefully answer
Happens to me too. I also tested this on a Galaxy S8 and it has identically bad performance. It probably also happens on the Note 8. 1080p30 HDR runs fine though. I didn't notice any heating - maybe just slightly warm but could as well be from my hands. Was the other phone you tested HDR capable?
I don't know if I can help you at all, but perhaps if you fill in some blanks, others might.
1) What model phone do you own and what firmware are you on (stock, stock rooted, custom ROM, etc)? You can check your firmware under Settings.
2) Can you link us to a video that's giving you problems?

hello, thank you very much for answering
1) my phone is lg v30 h930, stock, just removed from the box without touching anything, and the software version is V21w-EUR-XX
2) this problem happens to me in all the videos that I play on YouTube 1080p60 HDR (if I put the same video in 720p60 HDR the problem improves a lot, it becomes almost imperceptible) but the problem is that youtube does not give the option to deactivate the hdr, so if the video has that option, it activates it
I give you some examples of the videos that I have tried and they are very annoying ( It does not let me put links because I have less than 10 messages, I put the description of the youtube thumbnail, the first videos come out )
on youtube put "lg oled demo ", and play the first video, which shows a teapot in the thumbnail, and the video that shows a butterfly in the thumbnail, both are 4k Hdr 60fps
the phone I have it all activated, the HDR, I have not activated any energy savings, this all to the maximum ... I do not know what can happen, I do not know if it is the snapdragon 835 problem that can not with so much demand .... Do you think that could be why?
I have a pocophone f1 my brother, and the same video runs smoothly, very very fluid, but does not allow HDR, but I do not want hdr only make it look fluid
I've also noticed a bit of lag in chrome, in firefox it's better to scroll
Do you think it will be solved in any way? is that if I'm not return it and buy another phone thinking, something like pocophone because they do not have that kind of budget : llorando:
thank you very much and I hope response
I just tested that first video you suggested (the one with the teapot thumbnail) and I had absolutely no issues with playback. No stutter or lag with either the video or audio.
It's perfectly smooth, and really a lovely video.
I'm not an expert on HDR (since I don't use this device to watch movies or TV shows via Netflix or any other service), but as far as I can tell, the HDR triggered properly.
I have HDR turned on Settings, of course, and it's my understanding that you can tell when HDR turns on (when you rotate to Landscape) because the white Youtube pause/play buttons (amongst others) get very bright compared to Portrait view (which is supposed to disable HDR).
I also have never had any issues with Chrome. But I don't use FireFox, so I can't really compare the two.
I'm using an American open market US998 LG V30 on stock 20D (an old firmware from around June/July 2018), rooted.
I plan on updating my phone to the newest stock firmware one of these days, but haven't gotten around to it.
I have no idea what's going on with your phone. I understand it's new.
Maybe try checking to see if there's an OTA firmware update ready for you to install? (You might be running system software even older than mine, with a flawed HDR implementation).
Maybe there are some bloatware apps that came with your phone that are impacting performance.
Perhaps a factory reset could help?
I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
Que tengas buena suerte.
When i Am on STOCK ROM there is stutter and lag..
Install A CUSTOM ROM (tested on dot os) The colors still look vivid and plays smooth!! Absolutely no lag
I have had this issue since I first took my V30 out the box. Have the latest update for stock ROM/ VS996/Verizon. I gave up trying to troubleshoot this issue.
im using vanced as default YouTube app. it has an option to enable VP9 codec, that'll make your playback smoother even at 1440p60fps. But it kill HDR (but the color still the same tho). Shame, that V30 couldn't play HDR, because this phone is one of YouTube Signature Devices https://devicereport.youtube.com/phones/lg_v30.
Update: When I play that "lg oled demo" video, it doesn't stutter, I don't notice any of them. But when play "peru hdr" it stutter a lot. I'm using H932 latest stock. Try to activate that VP9 codec if you don't want HDR after all. Also, I don't use Chrome anymore, I disable it and using others. try Kiwi or Brave both are chromium based if you prefer chrome-like interface. If Firefox feels better so stick with it.
Just turn off hdr in display settings, every lg v30 has this problem. I think it's because hw decoder cannot keep up so this problem applies to every snapdragon 835 phone. Hw is capable of 1080p30fps HDR in vp9, 1080p60fps HDR is on the limit and can drop frames. HDR is gimmick for me, it is not well implemented. The quality is much worse than normal videos. For me bigger problem is that oled screen cannot reproduce dark colors because of low uniformity when pixels are barerly turned on and very slow response time in that matter too but that's for another topic.
