[Q] Closing apps with back button? Android ICS (4.0.3) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Edit:
How to mod Android 4.0.3 to close apps via long-press the back button?

Buuuuuuuuump

You could try out this tweak: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425612 (credit to super_paws)
It's posted in the Nexus S forum, but the creator states its for stock 4.0.3 OTA, with no mention on which devices it works on. So I suggest making a Nandroid backup before testing this out.
Note that it's not a ROM or a kernel, just a flashable zip that adds a few features, including the force close feature that you're looking for.
Once you flash it, you must go to Settings -> Developer Options, and enable "Stop app via long-press".
Hope that works out for you.

Thanks to you ma friend
Will test this out and give feedback ASAP
edit:
sadly it ends up in a bootloop. i will try to contact the developer and ask him.
Edit: This file is for Nexus S Stock ICS only.

Is anybody able to tell me which file i have to modify for closing apps via long-press the backbutton?
Or where i should start searching. i have absolutly no clue.

Whats wrong with the default Long-Press Home method?

[MOD] [ARC/NEO/RAY] Enable AOSP Power Widgets on Stock Official ICS .562 ROMS

Hi,
I Modified Sony Settings to Enable AOSP Power Widgets which was disabled by Sony..
Just flash Attached file in Recovery... To see it, check in your Widgets
Incase of any problems. Go to Settings>Apps>All>Settings and Clear Data..

Do you mind letting me know where you got the SystemUI you have?
Edit: Forget this question lol, found one
Do you mind modding the settings for 4.0.4/4.1.B.0.431? I'd like to get this widget for 4.0.4, don't believe the 4.0.3 will work.
Please make for 431

[Temporary solution] CRT for ICS

Until the devs get the CRT animation for ICS sorted you can use this app
Screen off and lock
The donate version has loads of different screen off animaions including "Old style tv"...
Also, you can put an application shortcut onto your homescreen, so I suppose its a bit like an on screen button mod for your power button as well.....(Not quite, but close enough)
Check this you tube video
Hope this helps untill we get a native solution
Confirmed working on my stock ICS with modified stock kernel.
EDIT:
This may help the devs get a bit closer to a permanant fix
http://communities-origin.sonyericsson.com/message/169101
I tried this, I didnt get a bootloop, but I also did not get the crt screen off animation...maybe I just missed something.
good find. Thanks...

[Q] Wake on key press

I upgraded last night to [ROM / LEAK] 5/8 - Stock Rooted RUU 3.14.605.5 / Truly De-Odexed! / Root works! works great for me.
One thing I have lost is the ability to wake on keypress (volume keys) which was working on GB via WidgetLocker.
Short of using a different ROM is there a fix for this.
It looks like a lot of Roms have this buiilt in, but I'm not sure I want to go through the upgrade process again right now just to get that feature back. Took long enough to reload what I had and that was using TB for some stuff.
That feature does not work on all ICS roms based on 3.14.
I asked to the dev of Widgetlocker, and he could not help with that.
You can check volume-wake mod for clean rom 4.5. That should work.
Or, I am currently on the Newts One xXx now (sense 4.0). Widgetlocker is fully functional on the rom.
The only thing I could find was on this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1532156
Doesn't parse. I will most likely end up loading one of the ROMS that supports it when I get time.
send me the android.policy.jar found in system/framework
and Generic.kl found in system/usr/keylayout
from whatever ROM you want this for and I'll get it working.
Sense 2.1/3.5/3.6/4.0
doesn't matter..

This feature actually does work on every ICS ROM I've ever tried.
where did you hear that doesn't work on all ICS ROMs?
unless the phone doesn't have volume keys, I can make the MOD

Hello andybones.
I mean the feature in widgetlocker, not your mod.
Your mod works fine as I said.
Thanks for making that
Also I posted in your mod thread that your volume key wake mod with apm has some bug which makes soft reboot when using screen off apps.
anyways I'm on newt one xxx now, it is fully functional with widgetlocker.
Andybones sent me an update that works with the ROM I was using.
I posted in in the Rom thread.

Thanks to Andy for it. Made my phone "work" again... I hate the power button to turn the phone on. Works with or without Widget Locker which gives another option.

[Q][Player 4.0] Remics CM9

I have a few questions that I was wondering about. *I'm a noob at everything beyond rooting and flashing ROMs, so please don't kill me. Also, I can't post on dev forums, so please don't direct me to a dev forum to ask for help.*
A. Does anyone know if it would be safe to use the CameraFirmware.apk file from the IcyFusion ROM to make the camera functional in Remics UX for SGP 4? It is the same firmware even between ROMs because the physical camera hasn't changed, right?
B. How can I make the physical home button work? Is that involved or are there files I can just copy for a quick fix?
C. I noticed that gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip force closes even after I have flashed it. Which version is recommended for the Remics UX SGP 4 ROM?
Thanks in advance to any help you provide, and tell me if there is somewhere more appropriate for me to post this.
EDIT: I realise now that the United States version has a softkey home button, which is what I intended to say by physical home button.

I don't have a SGP4, so I can't answer all of your questions, but I do know that CameraFirmware.apk has nothing to do with taking pictures. It's just a way to update the.... Camera Firmware.

I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487073 that "CameraFirmware.apk ... is the actual ROM (if you will) for the camera. Without this, camera.apk is useless."

Well... That list is inaccurate. If you do install it, all it provides is an activity to dump or update the camera firmware. You can verify that on any launcher that allows you to add shortcuts to arbitrary activities. If it is needed for any camera app, it is only on stock roms. For example, the SGP5 has that apk on stock, but the camera works in cm10 without it

Alright. Thanks for that clarification. Do you have any idea where to get started on the other problems, even if it isn't device specific?

Getting buttons to work is a kernel configuration issue. For GAPPS, make sure /system has enough space, and try flashing other ICS packages.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Alright... any idea which kernel files to configure?

That is, you must recompile the kernel with PALLADIO_USA enabled or disabled depending on if you have a usa model.

How to add Quick Panel on Motorola XT910

Hello,
I am using the Official 4.1.2 on my XT910. Is it possible to have the "quick menu" in the notification panel?

There is a sort of apps which can do it. It won't look exactly like the 4.2.2+ android quick menu but is better than what Motorola stock offers (nothing)
I used to use PowerToggles (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.painless.pc) back on my time with the stock rom. I recommend you to try a different ROM, like CM perhaps... Anyway you can find in playstore some apps that can help you.
Hope it helped

Thanks for the help mate. I will try "power toggles". And maybe later move up to a CM Rom.
