Your Ace is ****ed if Rom Manager invades your phone. To backup roms, you need to flash clockworkmod 4 or 5. Browse the dev section
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium

don't use rom manager ..Instad of that use clockworkmod(CWM)
First, download the CWM 4(official ) or 5 (works good) into the root of your sdcard
then boot to recovery mode
then go to apply the update something like that ,
then choose cwm 4.xx or 5.xx
install it ...
reboot......
again go to recovery mode
then now you will notice you will have CWM 4.xx or cwm 5.xx
now go to > back up and restore
press back up ...
it will take 5 mins....
done?
now reboot
enjoy.....
To restore :
boot into recovery mode go to > backup and restore >restore >find your previous backup rom.choose it...
it will take 5 mins to restore...
reboot done

Seriously ? Not knowing how to backup ?

Well it depends in what rom you are going to flash some rom supports amonra and some cwm. Both are good.

First thing u do is take a backup.
Than wipe all for first time flashing.
Wipe dalvic cache and wipe cached when u switch between same rom. (Like upgrade).

Thanks for that link. I was able to use it to easily switch between AmonRa and ClockworkMod. It didn't work going from AmonRa 2.2.1 -> ClockworkMod 3.1.0.0, but I was able to go to 3.0.2.4, and back and forth from there. It is a lot easier to try different recoveries this way!

For this you will have to switch to amonra again. And you can restore your back up.
Other way is to first switch to cwm on your desired rom. Then take a nandroid backup via cwm. Then for restoring you will not have to go to amonra.

Does anyone know what the difference between CWM 3.0.2.4 and 3.1.0.0 is? I made a bunch of backups on 3.1.0.0, but it is easier to switch between 3.0.2.4 and AmonRa then it is to do the same for 3.1.0.0, so I was thinking of using those 2 (when I need to use 1 vs the other), but I wanted to be sure my backup will still work with the older CWM

So you are saying, when we plan to switch frm amonra to cwn, first we have to flash cwm3.0.2.4 then flash cwm3.1.0.0 to work smoothly.

To be more specific, I'm saying that with the zips provided in the link, I got an error when trying to flash CWM 3.1.0.0 when running AmonRa 2.2.1. I was able to successfully reflash the 3.1.0.0 zip from a running CWM env, and was able to flash the 3.0.2.4 zip from AmonRa. So at least on my P509, I can't go directly from AmonRa->CWM 3.1.0.0 (vice versa works fine).
But yes, you can do:
AmonRa 2.2.1->CWM 3.0.2.4->CWM 3.1.0.0 using the zips provided
There is probably little reason for most to use both; play with them and choose one. For some of the stuff I'm working on, there are features of each I need though, so I've been going back and forth.
I flashed cwm 3.1 over amonra 2.2.1 without any problem.

You can make your backup and flash your backup using cw it really simple.the backups take up a ton of space so you might want a bigger SD card. I keep one backup on my phone and I move the rest to my computer

[Q] Can I do this to flash a CM ROM?

Hi, I'm really new to this Android thing and a friend bought a Samsung Galaxy Ace. He's worst than me and doesn't know what a ROM is..
Well, I want to install THIS CyanogenMod but it says the phone needs to be in 2.3.* and my friend's is in 2.2.1.
I searched how to update to 2.3.* and I thought updating to 2.3.3 by flashing THIS VillainROM will work.. and after this ROM, put ClockWorkMod (required by the CM) and flash the CM..
I want to know if this will work or if I'll brick my friend's phone (I prefer bricking my phone rather than my friend's). Hope to hear some reponse soon, thanks!
VillanROM is fine

Ok, so Will this procedure end up fine?
I would also like you to provide me with some guide to install ClockWorkMod if I don't have adb or that thing..
Did you ever bother to check the forums, or at least forum search

"Nothing found for Groups Samsung-Galaxy-Ace Forum Topic....
This is somewhat embarrassing, isn’t it?
It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching, or one of the links below, can help.!"
So please help!
There is a trick like reading the second post of the thread too

I'm Not familuar with your Galaxy phone but as it is samsung you should be able to you odin or swupdate to flash any SUPPORTED rom. Also first thing I have done with any phone regardless of manufacture is obtain root then flash recover and lastly flash the rom of your choice.
Not much help but hope it gives some direction
MOST IMPORTANT read extensivly about anything you are considering flashing BEFORE you do it. $500 dollar paper weights are over rated
Well, thanks for help but I have another problem
I connected the phone to Skies and it said a Firmware update was available. I updated the phone and ended with 2.3.4.
I was very happy and thought: "Great! I have 2.3.4 so now I can put the CWM and install the CyanogenMod "
I copied the CWM to the SD and installed it through recovery. When I tried to enter the CWM App it said I needed Superuser acess and the app closes..
I tried using SuperOneClick v2.1.1 and also opening in recovery mode and selecting "install .zip from SD" with a .zip supposed to root 2.3.4 but none of them worked..
What should I do? HELP!

I have CWM installed, but don't have Superuser access, no root.. How do I root now?
You don't need root. Flash the clockworkmod recovery and you're all set for the final rom flashing.

Recovery mode
"Install zip from SD card" NOT "Install update from SD card"
Select your CyanogenMod zip file
Wait for it to finish
Reboot device
Happy days =)
Make a backup though first!!!!!

When you installed rom manager it installed clockwork mod. (cwm)
You use this recovery instead from now on.
You can backup your rom or flash a new one or flash a modem or kernel..
There are loads of guides on this check one out if your not sure what to do..
Good luck

Hello,
First of all you're just rooted so do a backup of your EFS folder
So find a ROM you think it's good for you, download it into your internal SD card, reboot your phone in recovery mode (vol up+power+home button when turned off) do a nandroid backup(it's recommended if want to come back to your old ROM) wipe everithing (data cache and dalvik) install zip from SD card choose your ROM and click yes, when finished reboot your phone and enjoy XD
You will lose all your apps and settings so if you want to save them do that with titanium backup but use it with care
Your photo, video, music and what else in your SD card will be untouched
You can find the instructions to install a ROM in every ROM's homepage.
Modding it's not for noob,so read read read read read read and read before,be carefull
