Hi,
Appreciate that i am new here but just want to vent / understand if any of these issues can be resolved with some patching or if (as i suspect) I am better off simply flushing this POS down the bog.
I have had a lumia 800 for exactly 48 hours and its driving me spastic.
my issues are as follows (no particular order)
1. Zune, wtf is this junk? why can i not simpy drag and drop my file where i farkin well want them? I will not be told that i HAVE to use Zune. Zune can suck my balls.
2. Why does mass storage not work? Even if i change the registry to allow it it only partially recognises the files, meaning all my mp3's end up as one giant album, thanks Nokia / Microsoft, you jizz monkeys.
3. Which genius decided to only include one volume? So i lesten to my giant album at a volume that does not make me black out and as a result my ringer is as loud as a sparrows fart. This really is the most retarded thing on a phone sinc about 2001
4. The sound quality, its just crap. Really crap. where is the bass, no really what have you dne with it mr nokia? is it a special thing that normal users cannot be trusted with?
5. No EQ? So not only have you robbed my of my aural pleasure as standard but you have emasculated me by removeing the only tool that could alleviate this pain.
6. Bing, bing can ram it as far as i am concerned, I don't like it, i don't want to use it, but not only is it set as a default, but one of my buttons is dedicated to it? WTF!! out of 6 buttons you have wired 16.5% of them into a function that only smelly old men in rain coats would use.
I could go on, but i just cant find the will. So sod off lumia 800, your going on ebay this weekend and i hope some chav uses your puny loudspeaker to try and play ndubz on the bus.
Anyone else feel this way or have any solutions?
Thanks for reading this rant, oh and Hi

No different than being forced to use iTunes. If you want drag/drop freedom, then Android is your option.

We're all waiting for this development. WP7 is still quite young and has MANY improvements to make.

Via loudspeaker or headphones? I have Sennheiser MX95 earbuds and bass is fine. Externally? I agree, it's quite poor, but I didn't really expect anything better.

What are you expecting here? This is a Microsoft OS. They want to use and encourage the use of Bing. Were you expecting Google, or just the ability to customize? If so, see #3.

By what you've written, I really don't think that WP7 is for you. Perhaps you should get the N9 once you sell your Lumia 800?

Now to an extent I disagree, for two key reasons.
1. I can manage an i pod (the Mrs's) through winamp with no bother.
2. I expect that kind of bull**** from Apple, who make their products as difficult to customise as possible, windows is MEANT to run on mongrel hardware and support various uses while supporting programs and devices from other manufacturers. So this kind of strong arm move is in my eyes unacceptable.

I can appreciate that the OS is young, but come on, this is basic basic basic I can't think of a phone i have had that was capable of playing mp3's that did not have a separate volume for playback and ring.

Headphones and amplification, Not getting into some sort of "FI off" but i have tried it on Super Fi Pro 10 phones and into a hifi consisting of Cyrus twin mono's and B&W P6's and it sounds un utterably crap, next to a sony X series mp3 player its not even a bad joke, even next to my work blackberry is complete pish. Now i dont expect Esoteric levels of reproduction but i do expect it to have better reproducton than i would get with a set of 99p headphones placed in a coke can.

I could live with a non removable tile but to link a hard button to it is too much, same point as i am making about zune, its just not really acceptable imo

This is sadly the conclusion that i have reached, which is surprising as i have had a windows phone before all be it some years ago, and while that too was fairly crap in some respects I did use it for a few years without feeling the need to smash it into tiny bits and defecate on its remains.
Oh yeah, I forgot that iPhones can now be managed in different programs. It wasn't like that in the beginning.
I look at it like this. WP7 is new, yes. To keep it stable, it has to start out closed. I sincerely hope that it will open up over time.
I still gotta say that the sound from the Lumia 800 doesn't disappoint me. Honestly, I wasn't expecting greatness anyway. For that, I have a Walkman.
I really hope that these complaints you have will be addressed in the near future. I love WP7. That's why I became a late early adopter. I know a few who adopted really early, and aren't even techie people. They adopted when WP7 was so basic it barely did anything.
Good luck!!!
the way i see it, the drag and drop seems to work fine for me - i drag and drop music/videos/photos/podcasts onto the phone, i look in the music/videos/photos/podcasts bit of the phone, i see music/videos/photos/podcasts that i dragged onto the phone.
my beef with wp7 is the browser isn't particularly... good... but i just can't put my finger on exactly why...
About bing... On russian version of lumia there are yandex as default search provider and you have option in browser settings to choose defaults between bing and yandex. So I think there must be a way to customize search provider with interop unlock.
How are you editing the registry on your Lumia?

So you are saying you can use the Lumina as a mass storage? because my pc won't even recognize it. I must install stuff, and i never got any CD i think. maybe i should look into the box.

You don't edit the registry on the phone you edit the registry on the pc, you need to adjust the zune driver to enable legacy support, takes about 2 mins.
Even the iPhone had only one volume setting for everything until recently. It sounds like you want Android. Instead of being agitated by a new mobile system, just get an established one.
Yea it sounds like your lumia sucks! I'll buy it from you if you can ship to the US? There are countless droids out there that do everything you want per above, and they will no doubt keep you coming back to XDA to "vent."
So go with the Samsung Galaxy 2 or the N9 - I'm sure it will be all roses with those.
(Side note: if you want to see a limited OS on a phone, check out the N9 with Meego. It is mind-bending how limited that OS is. But at least you can drag and drop! Woooohoooo!)

I agree, I do wonder though why these, what i would call simple issues are not resolved pre release? I can only assume that its essentially the iphone effect where by is desn't really matter if a phone can do pretty simple things well, infact it can be a flaming turd rolled in glitter providing that it looks pretty and you can show if off in the pub.
If you want to make me an offer please do, i didn't get round to ebaying it this weekend as i was too busy being sicked on by my daughter
Its unlocked as standard as i am on the isle of man, happy to ship to outer mongolia provided i have the cash in my account before it leaves my sweaty palms.

I had an original iPhone, i got it a few months after it was released. It had separate volumes for music and ringtones back then. It was something that impressed me at the time which is why i remember.

Just my 2 cents on the issue:
1. I don't have issues so I'm curious to see what yours is. I also have zune pass and its one of the best subscription services I've every used. Love it and love the zune layout (though I have had an HD forever so I'm used to it).
2. See #1
3. That is strange; I've never noticed it. Are you listening with headphones? It doesn't make an audible ring if you have headphones in. Plus I would never ever listen to music straight out of any device; phone, mp3, or otherwise. Sometimes I listen to talk radio on the speaker but quality doesn't matter as much there.
4. Either use headphones or see #3
5. I'm pretty sure I've seen a music app that has eq. Do a search on wpcentral for one. I have an HTC Arrive and HTC has put an eq on it so Nokia must have dropped the ball.
6. I used to totally agree with you there. I hated bing at first. Now with adding local scout (must have!) I find myself using it all the time and loving. Plus I noticed google sucking lately and read this article (gizmo.do/xhiUe1) which helped change my mind for bing for sure.
Plus the Lumia 800 is so pretty and WP7 so slick that I wouldn't care about most of the things you have stated above. I use skydrive for all my file sharing so don't need my phone to be a usb stick.

The search button is an easy fix, Under
[[[settings>Region+language>Browse and Search Language]]],
set it to something other than USA. I have it set to my country, trinidad and tobago, and the search button defaults to google

Well, I don't know if that is true, but unfortunately it is still stuck in bing for Portugal and UK.

I have a question about music functionality on Android/the Atrix. I want to know if the stock music player or any music player on the Android Marketplace can manage two seperate media libraries.
Specifically, I would like to be able to have two different sets of music, and depending on the library or player, you would only be able to see one at a time. The reason is that I listen to a lot of JPop and anime type music, but I work at a professional sales job and I don't want my co-workers to know I listen to that kind of music. My co-workers are not nice people(typical alpha-male personalities) and would make fun of me to no end if they found out. Say, I wanted to plug my phone in and play it on the speaker system at work, I don't want anime music to show up, so if my co-workers were browsing through my phone, they wouldn't see it.
Anyways, I would be very grateful if someone could recommend a solution, of any kind, involving multiple media players or multiple libraries. Thanks for any help of advice that you have.
BTW I don't have my Atrix yet, but I thought I would ask anyways.
Honestly, since you're concerned enough about what other people think, you might as well totally compromise and leave the music you're concerned about at home.
To answer, there are a number of ways to do this: one simple way would be to load up a MicroSD card with your "secret" music, or use something like PowerAMP, which has it's own media scanner service, so I *believe* you could put your "secret" stuff in a folder that's not parsed by the regular system media scanner (and set PowerAMP to read that folder specifically).
Good luck.
I knew I would end up getting advice of that nature first lol...but anyways, thanks for the advice regarding the music. If you or anyone else comes up with any other ideas in the meantime before I get my Atrix, feel free to share them.
OK I got my Atrix and I've been trying to get this working...but the music player finds the music I am trying to hide, even in a hidden folden on the SD card. Is there any way to limit what files the Atrix default music player adds to the library? I can't find any library options anywhere.
I would appreciate any help, thanks. Make fun of me if you wish but this is really important to me.
android handles hidden files not like windows. so to make a folder hidden, you can put a period infront of the folder. Then it shouldnt show up in your media playlist. For example ".music" without the quotes. Then to listen to those music you can use a file browser like root explorer or astro (which both allows for viewing hidden folders), then you can listen to them that way.
so in summary, music app will not see it, but file browser will. that's a work around.
Strange I just tried this but it's not working. I did put the dot in front of the music folder ".Music" but it still shows up in the music player. I even tried mounting and unmounting the SD card and restarting the phone but it still shows up. I guess the Music App is just too smart.
Actually I did discover a possible solution that I will play with a bit. I realized you can mount and unmount the SD card at anytime. So possibly I could keep the SD card completely unmounted while at work. And then just re-mount it after I get off work. Seems to work fine for the few minutes I've played with it. So thanks.

just curious, why would your co-workers take your phone too look through anyways? you will have it on you all the time, they will not steal it from you and look right? haha.
you should also check out launcher pro, you can hide any app you want from the drawer. so you can just hide your music app during work or hide it all together. then when you want to listen to music, just hit the search button and type in Music and the app will appear. only you will know.

Yea I agree, even if your phone is on your desk and one of the aholes tries to snag it just set your finger print to unlock it and they can have a ball trying to figure it out. That kinda sucks they are are douches about something as simple as your music, I'd prolly give you crap about it but I'd expect it back from you good luck man!

Well we have this nice speaker system and I like to play music on it through an AUX cable, so I just leave it sitting next to the speaker system often time.
Plus I just got this phone and love it so I want to show it off. Even though I don't like my co-workers, I will let them try out my phone so they can get jealous haha.
Oh yeah and @client I do give them crap, all the time actually. And that's part of what this is about. I just dont want them to have any fuel to give me crap about. It's basically like a competition that we have going at work, really. Like one of my co-workers is like 25 and his girlfriend is 19 so we always joke about checking her ID when she comes to visit him at work and stuff.
Atrix Display and Comments
I spent several hours yesterday (Sunday) at a AT&T Retail Store with the Motorola Atrix. As you may know the phone display is a smidge under resolution to the IPhone 4- it lacked the "Punch" I thought the Display would or should have- is it because of Android 2.2? The dual core and Nvidia graphics accelerator should have given the Atrix a absolutely stunning display, it was “Just Ok” display, but nowhere near the retina display of Apple. I am resigned or guessing to think that this may be a Android software thing-
The Battery time appears good, I ran the Motorola “Flash Demo Site” about 9 times, ran Kobe Bryant’s “Nike Black Mamba” 5 min Trailer sever times was all over the web, Huge Multi Media Sites, and I didn’t ding the Battery at all, which was very surprising-
There is no question the Phone is very fast, actually at this point, I’ve never held a faster phone in my hand, we downloaded Extreme Labs Speed test, “Blink” it was done, actually initially I thought the download aborted- No such luck, Its fast-
So the Bottom line, The Display worries me. On the other Hand I'm hearing the Display on the Xoom is Gorgeous- but their running Gingerbread 3.0- I remember there was talk that Gingerbread required some very High Tech Hardware in place, Dual Core, Nividia ect- The Atrix is running Android 2.2-
Oops! I left one thing out-
The Sales rep told me the phone was “LTE Ready”, when I asked what do you mean, he smiled and said all that’s required is a Sim Card Change Out, He said Both the Inspire and the Atrix were that way. After I got home I called AT&T and spoke to a Supervisor in Technical Services, who confirmed that dialog. I am very surprised, as none of the reviews have said that. There has been great debates over 4G, and articles that say the Atrix is but isn’t 4G, and cannot work on LTE-
I have always valued your Forum opinions, and hope that you will take a moment to answer my email. Any comment you can give or overall opinion would be graciously received as always.

Lol Looks like he may have posted this in my thread instead of a new one.
Also an update- The SD card dismount is working good but now the folder did get hidden. For some reason overnight the phone finally registered it as hidden. I think I'll just unhide it and keep using the mount trick though, seems more reliable.
I bought the 920 on weds..just returned today. The first one the shop had was DoA but the guy gave me another meant for another customer. The phone is top notch quality albeit on the heavier side. Camera placement in the center is not ideal and the phone could slip out of your hands..but its built like a tank. Screen is excellent and call quality is clear . Despite the weight it feels really good...better than the iphone 5 which i also have and night and day against any samsung phone (i had note 2 as well). Now the bad news.
Windows 8 mobile sucks!!! It took me an hour to setup my windows live or is it hotmail account. When I first setup it thought I was a child and gave me the round around telling me to check with family controls etc. Also I needed to put my credit card details etc just to access the app store. This process was also confusing since it redirected to the awful internet explorer mobile on the phone where the fonts were so small I couldnt see damn thing. Resizing the web page was cumbersome at best. I tried a few times...and i was so frustrated i felt like throwing the phone against the wall. In the end I did a hard reset and after more mucking around and searching on forums I got it working. But it was like pulling teeth.
Once I got my account setup..you cant change it unless you do a hard reset. So you are basically locked to that account. So if you have one older MS live account and a newer one , you wont be able to switch. This is the most retarded thing out. On android and iOs you can have many accounts as you want. I have a US, UK account which I like to use.
Anyway the first thing I did was go to the app store to download essentials such as Whatsapp , skype etc since nowadays we dont really talk anymore on the phone but message.Skype was ok and it has a special interface coz MS owns it. Whatsapp was a disaster, First time it took forever to load my contacts then say i had no contacts. 2nd time i got it to work but no video uploads. the interface is not as easy as on ios or droid. This is by no means MS fault but they should have checked to see if it works on newer phones. But I guess theres the rub. MS win 8 mobile has such a low user base, developers treat updates with the lowest priority. The app store has hotch potch skeleton app selection. You wont find spotify there but Nokia Music fills the gap albeit a poor substitute. I use my phone as music player first and foremost so music lovers will be disappointed. The MS sync tool with itunes is very bad. Playlists and songs werent copied and album art missing.
The microsoft email client is not as good as ios . You can change fonts and html messaged dont look as clean. I dont take many pics so didnt really try out the camera. But even when i turned flash off the flash was still on for some reason. The lens placement in the center of the phone meant that you would take shots of your fingers instead. Since the phone is heavy it was hard to just hold the bottom half to take pics. They should put the lens on the top left/right.
Surfing was an ok experience..windows wouldnt auto resize so most of the time you would get really small fonts.
Movies were good as display is excellent.. For some reason it also just shutdown completely last night (with 70% battery) and it took a soft reset to get it going again. The live tiles system is different and people who are tired of ios or droid may find this unique but the novelty factor wears off since not all tiles are live. The UI is smooth and there was no lag. Also little things like no batt percentage and some youtube videos wouldnt play (vevo) as it recognized win8 as mobile device. This works on ios and droid.
Bottom line...it wasnt a keeper since there are so many bugs to iron out.
Pros

It may be good for ppl who take a lot of photos since the camera is supposed to be the best on any phone..apart from that..would advise you to stay away until the win8 bugs are sorted.
PS i think Nokia/MS is desperate so they restricted supply to make it look as if the phone is hot and to get the buzz going. I really wanted to like it but couldnt get past the crap win 8 mobile. I set up my mail and main account in less than 5 minutes on my 920. It synced perfectly and pulled down all my contacts, calendar, and photo.
Music syncing wasn't quite as smooth, but I got it working. I do agree about having only one main account and not being able to change it seems stupid.
As for apps, they are coming, but I have noticed some developers putting out subpar WP8 apps while their iOS and Android are fine. I blame the developers for that crap. It's inexcusable.

Hmm that's funny...
I have an adriod tablet... gmail account and credit card needed for the marketplace... hmm Sounds like an iPhone where an Apple id is required to use the iCrap. Same issue there. Now, I do have one customer that has a Blackberr..... uh nope just switched to a 920. Just saying, your first point has me wondering where else it is any different. The comparison to iOS, eh... one thing I don't have an issue wit on the phone is text size and reading all that, but you do realize you can change that in the settings!!!! This was a change over WP7. Yes there are some subpar apps, but that's what sets WP apart so much of the phone will do what you need 10 apps to do on iOS and Andriod. I can do most of what you do faster on any other platform. However, this is all a preference argument and I personally don't have an app hard on. I had to help a customer settle in coming from her iPhone, but we set up her outlook to use her Micosoft accout for her contacts and calander. She is all setup like if she had excange server at home without changing her other email address. There is a learning curve with any switch... you made one when you bought your first iPhone. You are not buying a new iPhone, it is a new platform.

I'm sorry you had such a hard time setting an account. In my case, it look me less than 2 mins. It would have been much easier for you to create an account on your computer and then just sign-in with your phone. Wish WP8 provided a "hint" like this to those who are completely new to this ecosystem.

Completely agree.. iCrap forces you to do it that way... the device does not even power on without initially hooking it up and setting it up with iTunes on a computer. I think Micrsoft could recomend it on that first setup screen. If you already have an MS account you don't need to go to the computer at all.... so at least with WP8 you can skip that step and have everything setup before you get home. Just when you thought that would be a feature!
OP, I feel your pain. I like my Nokia 920, but am starting to get cold feet because of the apps. One example, I drive a Toyota it uses ENTUNE, there is no app and possibly will never be fully compatible. ALso things like HBO GO and such. I dont use them much on a phone anyway, but I still miss it. And as my cable company adds Video Apps, they take forever to get to Android, how long until they even acknowledge WP8?? My Son is a college athlete, whats the odds his schools app will have a WP8 version? Again, I do like the phone, if I didnt also use a 7" Galaxy Tab, I probably would have returned it. However, the new Galaxy Note 2 is tempting me to switch phones again...
While the setup on mine was easy, I'll be returning it today for one big reason...the camera. Granted, I knew going in that they camera has problems in daylight shots, but I figured I'd give it a try in the real world and see how my results turned out. Honestly, even worse than I expected. I also have the SIII and this thing can't hold a candle to it's camera. Maybe Nokia fixes it with a software update, but what if they don't? I'd rather return it and wait and see rather than keep it, go beyond my return window, and be stuck with such a crappy camera that never gets fixed.
He's a comparison shot I did this morning. The 920 picture looks like it's been run through some sort of cartoon editing software. Look at the tree on the right with the dead leaves still on it compared to the shot from the SIII. Insanity.

The colors are alright, but there's absolutely NO clarity. Just awful. So, for now, while I love the phone in every other regard, I'll be returning it and waiting to see if the camera gets fixed.

Yeah, I have seen a couple of those shots show up, but the majority of shots put the SIII to shame. Go indors and take some shots without the flash (turn it off) And yes the Lumia 900 had some simular issues and yep that got an update right away. The cam went from lackluster to pretty damn good. The pictures consistantly came out better than my transforer prime tablet which had a decent camera.

Hmm, I set mine up in the store while waiting for the receipt to be printed. But I did already have a .live account. I didn't have to input a credit card because if I buy anything I just add it to my ATT bill. Very unlike my iPad where Apple insists I have a CC on file.
As for locking you into one specific account, well, that's no different from Apple. I can't change my Apple ID either.
And apps? Well, I find that the OS does just about anything I need without specific apps. Whereas I find IOS not much more than a glorified 'app launcher'.
Don't get me wrong. I love my iPad. But I expect something more and different from my phone. I expect my phone to simplify my life and frankly I find this OS does that. I was a 'flashacholic' when I had previous windows phones so I really considered a new Android phone. But frankly WP8 is a dream to use.
OP, sorry you had such a hard time. I had the same hard time the first times tried to set up my first iPad. This comes from being familiar with an OS. Other OSs feel 'wrong'. The 920 isn't for everyone, nor is WinPhone 8, nor is IOS or even Android.
Ain't choice great!

That's the thing... I don't shoot indoor shots often. The camera is something I use in my job and those are outdoor shots. Great phone, but the camera software needs some work.

Agreed, and far, FAR beyond iPhone, which I ran with for over 2 years.
As for setting up the Microsoft account, I don't see how anyone could have a problem with it. More importantly, if you know you have to set one up...do it on your PC, not your phone. That's just common sense, or so I'd guess.
Windows Phone 8 is, hands down, the best mobile OS I've ever used, and I've used them all.

If that is the case, the Lumia has the most potential. The limitations are on the way the phone is processing the pictures (software) not a limitation on hardware. Hardware you can't change, software you can. Every phone today gets tweeked with after it's initial release. The 920 will be no different. The stabilization works, the low light performance works... Give them a chance to update and if it still doesn't perform... something better will be out there or coming out.

I absolutely agree the Lumia has tons of potential. And I'm sure they'll put out an update to the software to fix the camera. That's why I returned mine to wait until they do. I can promise you, once they fix it and the reviews start pouring in that the camera is good to go, I'll be picking another one up. Other than the camera software, this phone is amazing.
But even when i turned flash off the flash was still on for some reason. The lens placement in the center of the phone meant that you would take shots of your fingers instead. Since the phone is heavy it was hard to just hold the bottom half to take pics. They should put the lens on the top left/right.

Youre dont mean the focus-assist lighting? You know, the light that makes your camera able to focus on things it might normally be too dark for it to focus on? Cause thats not flash.
I never take a picture of my fingers. Also, pressing on the screen to take a photo could help you out if you feel its too heavy to hold while using the manual button.
Personally the WP8 experience is on par with the experience I had on my SGS3 with android 4.1.
I like the homescreen far more than on Android, and the way social and email is integrated with the native apps like messaging, contacts, etcetera.
I dont like IE10 as much as Chrome, but thats MOSTLY because of how IE10 handles doubletap to zoom and textwrapping plus certain messageboards. Why no mobile browser besides the microB-browser has had swirlzooming is beyond me.
All in all, the 920 is better for me than the SGS3, and Id choose it over SGS3 any day of the week.

Pros

Got a Lumia 920 yesterday for my wife (not a technically savvy person at all!) Once she had her bearings (about 5 minutes navigating around) it took her less than 5 minutes to set up all her e-mails. There was no need to give any credit card information, and the camera is really good in low lights... compared it to my S2. Daylight shots are a little washed out, but READ! a camera firmware patch is coming soon. Tech specs on the camera are really good, and so is the screen... these two and the solid constructions are the reason i opted for this phone. Pretty sure others would agree.
And in conclusion, if it took you over an hour to set up email, it's a good thing you returned this phone. I would highly recommend staying miles away from Android or Windows devices; a Leap-frog or an Apple product would work best for you.

I read a post about how amazing Night mode was. So I played around with the scenes Close Ups, Cloudy, and Night Mode. So often, that stuff is just a gimmick, not on this phone!
I returned my Lumia 900 cause it was hard for me to transition from Android and it was lacking. I gave the 920 and WP8 another chance and never looked backed. It's restricted compared to how you have so much customization you can do on Android, but the 920 is far from being some kind of wash out. The stabilization of the camera is one of the best I've seen. I've take shots compared to my HTC One X and the stability feature is awesome.
Personally I love a heavy set phone. Gives me the feel of sturdiness. I've always liked heavier phone.
The screen in day light is simply the best thing I have ever seen. The way the color tones adjust to bright light is incredible. Even with the top down on my car I can see the screen crystal clear.
The speaker on this thing is SUPER loud. Louder than my Nexus 7. The EQ on this thing absolutely smashes anything my One X Beats Audio could dish out. It's even better than any EQ feature on Android 3rd party apps like Power Amp. When I adjust the EQ it adjust.
It took me minutes to set up my Live, Google, LinkedIn, Yahoo, NetZero, and Hotmail Account. The integration is very nice in how it works together.
I have my quarrels with WP8, but it's super stable and nicely integrated with apps optimized for it's ecosystem.
IMHO WP8 is at the point of what Froyo was for Android. One of those landmark version that will get this OS out in the wild.
Sorry to hear you not like it, I can understand as I been there with the 900, but I can't justify it with the 920. The apps will come, the stability will come, the updates to software will come.
I've actually had the worse upgrade of JB on my Nexus 7 when they fixed the bugs of forgetting to December in the calendar. And to be quite frank my 920 process faster than my One X with the same processor and my Nexus 7. I'll never stop using Android, but I'll never say WP8 sucks. There's no way.
I agree with OP regarding the email client; 1 account is not enought. For the rest i can only say that i setup my phone in 5 minutes with no problems at all. Using my 920 since 2 weeks, coming from an iphone4 and no regrets at all.
It will almost be a year since I got this phone, and I have to say its going well! Love the hardware and even the Nokia exclusive apps (coming from a Samsung and HTC windows phone). Sure there have been times where I found small defects in the device, but still love it! My question is how are you guys liking your Lumia so far?

Very good atm coming from android this OS is refreshing and its simplicity and out of the box performance is good imo. Less fragmentation regarding updates compared to android devices where OEM`s decide which devices are updated and which not. Wouln`t choose for a Samsung or HTC WP though, i see the Lumia`s to Microsoft as the Nexus`s are to Google. So overall very happy and i hope MS and Nokia keep up the good work and the app developers will come automaticaly as the OS grows and becomes more and more significant :good:

I feel you Mine has also fallen (except on tile, lets just say that tile didn't do well ;P) . As for the Lumia's being Microsoft's "Nexus line" it's defiantly true! I wonder if MS taking over Nokia's Mobile division would have any impact in security Microsoft maybe less careful leaving Diagnostic tools and such on the phone than Nokia currently is! (More Exploits?).

I have bought the phone a week ago. I really like Windows phone. I would like more games at the market!!!
Well I'm not currently "enjoying" it. It's out for repair for the fourth time now. After the second time I sent it back I received a refurb, which was all kinds of screwed up: bad soft keys lighting, screen burn-in in two spots, loose battery, and after a few days the earpiece started malfunction. I sent it the third time and it came back working, then it broke again. Now I really hope that they don't send me back the same unit, if that happens I won't even bother turning it on, and just keep using my "backup", the Ativ. I really hate the build and I'm not great fan of AMOLED but at least it works.

Just dropped my HTC One and thought I'd give the Lumia a try. I will say the Lumia 920 has a better camera, and that's a very meaningful claim considering how the HTC One was marketed as having such an innovative camera. The HTC One camera does have a few features no other camera can touch, but the Lumia has seriously better *dynamic range* which makes images look so much better, especially people's faces.
Otherwise, well, I'm sorry to say this, but: Windows Phone is great, just not "great enough". It is about as good as Android or iOS in terms of usability and not as good in terms of app store.
So, having owned both phones I would definitely say go with an HTC One unless the camera matters to you (or you have some kind of all-Microsoft work environment or other reasons why WP can be a totally obvious choice).

I'd get the One too if I was going android. But the windows phone does what I want on a daily basis beautifully. Better than ios or android. Which is : telephone, email, enterprise outlook calendar, SMS, photos, Netflix, Hulu, Turn by turn Navigation. Definitely miss YouTube but YouTube has gotten boring lately and I don't miss it anymore. I don't even visit it on my computer. Social media hub is awesome and the best thing for a busy professional.
PS: the people/contact hub is the best thing I have experienced, and the synchronization with your SkyDrive is awesome.
The one compelling reason for using the Windows phone is the messaging over Bluetooth. Best thing since sliced bread and for texting while driving. Suck it IOS and android. You have to experience it to appreciate this feature.
And while I am at it: Lockscreen with weather and calendar + glance clock.

Android has lockscreen weather and calendar. Moto X now has glance (they call it "active display"). But you are *absolutely right* about that bluetooth text-to-speech feature. I just discovered this the other day and was amazed. My car talks to me now and somehow knows exactly the right thing to do and I never had to set up anything other than pairing it. Indispensable. Huge benefit in terms of safety and convenience. It *may* be possible to get this in android somehow but it was already set up and ready to go in WP8. Why other platforms don't work harder on this I don't know.

Haters gonna hate. Thats the only way to look at it. Its a cool piece of hardware but theres haters for everything. Hell you tell people the battery will last 2-3 days and they scream bloody murder, "oh it sucks, thats horrible!". Then you tell them the Apple iWatch battery will only last 8 hours and they are all like " oh well thats probably ok" (I dont actually know what the iWatch battery is like). I did just go on a little rant here. It should give you some insight into why people talk bad about it.

I just got mine yesterday and so far I like it. I had the original Gear 1 and a Moto 360. I will say that the Moto 360 seemed to work better with Google stuff such as Hangouts, but it was far more limited as a device compared to the Gear S. I loaded the Gear Notification Extender, and now I can reply to both Gmail and Hangouts using the Gear S, very nice!
I do like the option of using something like the Opera Mini Browser to view Gmail and such. And I can't wait to try it out this spring while cycling, it would be nice to leave my phone at home or in the car when riding my bike.
Hope this helps.
its a fantastic piece of kit
to be fair i've struggled with it a bit understanding the settings and permutations but the functionality seems to be improving day by day.
the choice of useful apps isn't massive but that hasn't been a problem for me personally,
I'm not a great fan of the interface on my related S4 smartphone but i can live with that
the liberation of just having the watch (ok with your compatible samsung plugged in or turned on somewhere else) is the main attraction for me
i dont understand the haters especially those deriding the battery life, the appearance (it looks great on your wrist in real life), the concept ( i don't think i need one why would anybody else?) or the need to have a samsung phone to go with it ( I'm not charmed by that either that but Samsung are no worse than others in that regard and there are I guess technical reasons why it has to pair with something short of being a brick on your wrist) at least with the Gear S that pairing can be at a distance or indeed you can just use it as a phone on its own
some people have posted here and on android central that they have returned the watch but most actual users who see the use case for them, have checked out the limitations, have persevered or been patient with some of the glitches and understand why its the best in its class
i see your a "senior member" so apologies for showing granny how to suck eggs - apart from that buy it - or hang on a little longer to see if there really is a Gear S 2 coming soon!

I would get one that can be rooted. Mine may go back because of the lockdown.
What type of lights are you turning on and off? And what brand camera? I didn't see your apps on gear store
Thats because i wrote the apps for myself.
My home lights via domoticz
Accessing a cctv server system to view live images.
Might adapt them for the store at some stage but presently just because i wanted them.

I have the WEMO light switches and wished there was an app for it on my watch. And I have foscam cameras, not necessary for a watch but I thought it would be cool.

No apps maybe, but you can go to the website for your Foscam using the Opera browser on the watch. Cheers!
1. Screen Bleed. Not terrible but annoying.
2. Unable to transfer files to phone from my PC. I tried 3 different PC's. I have developer mode and tried both usb debug mode on and off.
But files either refuse to copy - or copy so slow that it would take days to copy large files, literally.
I installed the Poco drivers and Mi assistant. It tells me I need to update my phone before connecting to PC.
But my phone IS updated.
3. The mic hardly audible on video calls.
The mic only works if I have my mouth VERY close to it, other wise people cannot hear me at all during video calls - I mean literally AT ALL. The person was sitting quietly waiting for me to talk but I had been talking for over a minute before I realised they cant hear a thing. Did a Skype test call.. same problem.
4. It took me weeks to even be able to order this phone due to the bad habit of advertising the phone but not having enough stock available.
5. No refund available, just the painful process of sending it back and having to gamble on getting a better quality phone.
I can see my self stuck in an endless cycle of returning these phones. becasue none will be up to standard.
It has a fast processor, pretty good camera, and good battery... but the rest seems utter garbage.
I'd rather a slower phone that actually worked properly.
1. my Poco is made in China and there is not screen bleed, screen is perfect.
2. no problem for me to transfer file from Poco to Win10 in vm.
3. not tested with Skype so idk, but with normal call with speakerphone enabled i did not have problems atm.
4. :::
5. :::
What you listed is nothing compared to the touch issues this model has... It's barely usable because of them. Other than that, it's very solid. I don't even mind the light bleed, I just want the touch response to be snappy and accurate (which it's not...).

Nothing?
I got this phone mainly for Skype video calls on the move. But with the awful mic its totally useless.
Plus I got the 128GB version for more storage space, but cant even transfer files to the device.
I didn't notice many touch issues though.. maybe a bit.
Thats what we get if we pay cheap... crap quality control.
My model was also made in India - which probably means it's even worse.
About the USB thing it wouldnt work for me on the USB 3.0 ports of my computer, but I know its not Poco's fault, not even my new sound card gets recognised there. If your computer is old one (mine is P9x79 Pro with 3930k) its most probably just the USB fault. It was when USB 3.0 first released and I remember it not even working properly until drivers released a year after. Not to mention that I still have problems with it sometimes.

I mean that your mic issue is probably easy to fix in future updates (I just tested a video call myself and the other person heard me very clearly) but the screen is most likely a hardware issue which is the worst. I don't have any problems with the file transfer either.

mate stop spreading the hate... maybe you got a defective piece...u should request for a return... I got mine in the first sale(Flipkart) .. I don't know about the mic issue with skype ...for me, everything works fine including the screen(no bleeding)...install some benchmark app for storage and check the speed ...check your SD card (if u have one).

Then why do my other phones have no problem transferring data from my pc?
It is POCO fault for sure

I spread what the hell I want
And ACTUALLY, I am spreading my EXPERIENCE.
It's better than keeping quiet and having masses of people buy this badly built phone.
I got the 128GB version - dont need an SD card. Well.. actually I do, becasue it wont work.

What do you think I'm doing you fool?
I gave a LIST of points. I advice you to read them.
Then you accuse me of spreading hate when I'm just giving my experience,
then you call me a kid. But that's OK as long as it come from your mouth I suppose.
Yes, this phone was supposed to be a 'flagship killer killer'
Now when people point out its faults you say 'what do you expect from a cheap phone'.
Well if its crap, say so and I wont buy it.
People have been raving about it mainly due to the ultra fast processor, caught in the hype and ignoring the bad build quality and quality control.
Plus Mi India wont even give refunds.
AND they wont even check my replacement before sending it. So I may get another duff model and have to go through the entire process again.
So yes,, THIS PHONE IS GARBAGE
LOL the touch screen on my unit sold in Italy is perfect. I am in many italian android and tech forums and here no one has this (fake) touch screen problem. All made in China obviously. There are too many indian kids here...

Maybe that's the issue.
Indian products are notoriously terrible quality.
Plus Mi India won't even offer refund.
After I read this thread, I just connect my phone to my PC to see if my Poco has any troubles transferring. Recognized by the computer, I then selected USB transfer rather than charging on the phone, and transferred over a 100 MB file in about 2 seconds. Fastest I've seen so far on a phone. So, for what it's worth, no issues here.
I find the screen bleed issue interesting. Reminds me of my 2012 iMac, where there was a huge blow-up online with screenbleed at the bottom that almost nobody noticed until they read the online forums..... Never noticed it on my phone until i read about it here. Ha!
Its that only the indian version only has these problems the global version has no issues

Maybe I should change this thread title to: 'INDIAN PRODUCTION AND QUALITY CONTROL STANDARDS ARE GARBAGE.'
From what I'm seeing here it seems most of the phones made elsewhere are pretty much fine.
Interesting that people think it get worse ,I don't see backlighting get brighter as days go by, Backlight will get dimmer ?
Hmmm i read all these issues people have and i have yet to encounter any of them. I use my F1 daily since 6. September. Only problem i have is finding a good flip case for it.

You didn't expect cheap stuff to be free of issues did you? It's the first generation too. Also, to say the phone is "utter garbage" is not fair when 90% of other functions work fine.

I can speak for myself, I don't know why it does it to you. I can connect my s9 on that port and it works just fine also. However I had problem with MANY devices in the past (even last week with my new sound card) getting recognised or working properly. Some devices work, some don't. Do I blame the devices? Absolutely not. This is the price you pay for adopting new technologies like USB 3.0 (when it was first released) Its not pocos fault for being incompatible with 3.0, because it works fine on my 3.1 laptop, or USB 2.0 on my desktop. Same with my sound card. Again that's my own case, I don't know why it's not working for you. My suggestion is to try different drivers and/or upgrading the firmware of the usb.
