[Q] Long Press for keyboard? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I've become very used to long pressing the menu button on my Evo 3d to pull up the keyboard quickly, particularly in apps that don't have a keyboard button.
Now on the Transformer Prime I can't seem to find a way to replicate that functionality, any suggestions?
I've updated to ICS & am rooted.

bueller?
err I mean no one has any ideas?

Interested, too. But we might just have to deal. I heard long-press on menu is going to be the new search shortcut, since the Nexus doesn't have a search key. :-(

[Q]Lack of Search Button

This isn't a too much of a big deal, but curiosity kills me. Since the SGS 2 looks like it lacks a dedicated search button, I wonder if it has a substitute?
What I appreciated on my Nexus One is the search button which is excellent to Google something on the fly and to activate Voice Search. So I'm just wondering if the SGS 2 will have something to generate a quick search or if the U.S. variants will have search buttons?
like the first galaxy S i9000 , you will be able to long press the menu button to simulate the search button
And for the voice search double pressing the home button will do the trick as seen on the vids floating the web
Search seems like the biggest waste of.a button ever. Never missed it on the i9000 at all.

I never used my search-button as it is now, but if the menu-button long-press is assigned to search, how do you switch on and off the on-screen keyboard?
On other android-devices a long-press of the menu-button will activate/deactivate the on-screen keyboard.

I have a Hero, never ever have I had to long press the menu button to get the keyboard up/down. It comes up when it's needed, it disappears with a press of the "hide keyboard" button or the back button!

The hide keyboard button is only on HTCs Sense keyboard no? It's certainly not there on the stock android keyboard.
I've had instances where the keyboard blocked part of the screen and if I had pressed the back button the program would've closed/gone to a previous screen and I wouldn't have been able to do what I wanted without pulling down the keyboard with a long press of the menu-button.
It might not be a big problem or something that occurs often, but it can be annoying and that's why I ask.

You just hit the "Back" button to hide the keyboard
As he just explained, in certain programs (very few) pressing the "back" button to switch off the on-screen keyboard can quit the progrmam you are actually using. But samsung made a very neat trick for that since the first version of the Galaxy S i9000, just swipe down from the upper part of the keyboard to the bottom and the keyboard will disappear, no need for a specific button. I find it very intuitive personnaly, and in the same situation you can also swipe left or right in the keyboard area to switch from letters to numbers view back and forth.
That is an excellent feature. Do any other phones do this?
I don t know any other phone that do so natively, but there is some third party keyboards that copied that (just like CyanogenMod and everyone else copied the wifi, bluetooth etc toggles in the notification bar) "smart keyboard" or "better keyboard" I think.
Meh, I love the design but I love my search button; using Vlingo, I can hold the button and tell my phone to do whatever I want, much better than tgr default Google voice command app.

That's no big deal, you can easily fix it with a third party app.
And btw it's a matter of time for Android 2.4 Ice cream to come.. and there are rumors that it won't need buttons at all...

Doubtful... Why would I want screen real estate taken up with buttons? It works on a tablet, It would be nonsensical on a phone.
samsung hasn't actually officially confirmed if there will be a 2.4 update...

They haven't confirmed that the SGS will get Gingerbread either yet I'm running XXJVK which is Android 2.3.3.

Hi,
"MobileDock Battery saving mode" is enabled by default to save your battery.
To disable it (and activate the lock button on your keyboard), go to:
Settings > ASUS Customized Setting
Then scroll to the bottom to the very last setting and uncheck it.
Hope that helps.

App to use nook button like iphone home button?

Hi,
I love my Nook Tablet, and have rooted it using Indirect's method, and have added the SystemUI.apk published by revcompgeek.
However, I'm not quite where I want to be...I am really hoping for some tweaks or app(s) that will make my "n" button truly act like the home button in Button Savior, or the home button on my iphone - I want to double-click or long-click on it and get a list of running apps, with the option to switch to another one directly or to close one or more.
Does anyone know how I can do that?
Thanks,
ST
natively no possible, apps will do

Look for Multitasking Lite on the market. You can get a running list of appear by single press, double press, or by search button.

Multitaking Lite did the trick! I also tried TaskXP and that does the trick as well. My problem with them is I didn't realize I needed them to catch the home page button press. Now that I figured that out everything's working the way I want.
Thanks for everyone's help, this noob appreciates it!

Thanks for the info, just downloaded taskXP

Does anyone know of a multitasker that actually catches a home button hold rather than a double or single press? I want a single press to go home and dislike the delay that setting the multitasker to double press introduces.

You can disable the double tap function in TaskXP and have the multitasker popup on one click. I tried it on mine and it works.

Yeah, that doesn't quite solve my problem unfortunately, thanks though. I've gotten used to the single click for home, hold for MRU from other devices and was hoping to find something that would make this the same. I guess that's probably unlikely though since that's default android behavior and the whole purpose of these apps is to change it.

Any way to remap Search key to Recent Apps?

Hey guys, so honestly i dont use that key, and i dont think many people do too. My mom's Desire Z has this feature and its really convinient instead of having to leave the home key pressed until the multitasking window appears. Thanks

Has anyone gotten home2 shortcut to work on any launcher other than stock?

What I'm trying to do is use the home button in conjunction w/ another press of home or perhaps home/menu to open a predefined app. I use home2 for this now but I cannot get it to play nice w/ launcher pro or nova launcher. I'm open to other apps to do this w/in nova as I really like it. It doesn't seem nova can do this natively nor launcher pro.
Thanks
Dave
@TT_Vert, though I believe that this belongs in the Q&A section, Nova Prime handles this with ease. Go to Nova Settings, Gestures and Buttons, Home Button, App tab.

Sorry if this is the wrong place. There doesn't appear to be native functionality for home and any other second key other than another home press. If I'm missing something please let me know.

The options with Nova Prime that I see are home key press and long menu press. I don't see combo button press (example, home + volume up) options.

Right. That isn't the functionality I'm looking for. I finally got home2 working though.
I use home 2 to trigger google now instead of svoice. I am using launcher prime and it works fine. zero issues that I can see.
I have not tried to "do" anything else with it.

So how did you get home2 to work on your Note 3? I have been trying for a couple of days and the home/home press continues to bring up svoice.
I ended up only using home long press to open voice search. I use the menu button for waze and pandora.
