Dear Forum users,
Recently I bought a Samsung Tab 10.1 3G (P7500), I have done the 3.2 update OTA however, the main screens are pretty rough (not smooth).
Could you please, based on your experience, tell me:
1- Which is original rom (US Verson) is the newest?
2- Which rom is the fastest (no OC)?
3- Which "cooked" room is the best, in terms of speed, smoothness and battery life?
Also...
The tab takes several hours to recharge, while it is not a MAJOR problem, is it a hardware or software problem?
And last....
Why is Samsung SOOOO slow to release ICS and/or patch Tab 10.1?
Please Help!
Try flashing the latest Overcome ROM.

Welcome to the XDA. You'll find a lot of information by simply using the "search" function. New threads complaining about the lack of "smoothness" on the stock ROM, charging speed, and Samsung's release of ICS are not in short supply around here. If you just have to complain, maybe keep it in one of those threads?
Hello!
Thank you...
Slack04, Actually I am not only complaining. I also made a few questions.
You see, I also have a Galaxy S2 phone, and the S2 thread has an original list of firmwares divided by android versions.
If funny tho, almost in every forum there are users who adopt the "maybe you shouldnt post here" style...
Please dont just read the last few lines of my post!
SaneinOne,
Thank you!! I have already tried the overcome rom. But it is missing a lot of apps, and they dont give enough instructions on how to install the missing apps.
Also I dont know what to do with the "patches"...
Lastly it is not really smooth... Maybe I should try it again and read the whole thread.
Thank you!
Just hold your breath and wait patiently for ics ... just like I have. So far all roms are pretty much little laggy on the home screen.

You titled your thread "why is it so rough?" and then complained about "roughness," charging speed, and something about how Samsung is "sooooo" slow (last one I don't even get. Which manufacturers are you comparing to?

all tab take several hours to recharge.
the 10.1 takes about 5 hours to charge from 0 to 100%
if you want to compare with the Ipad 2, it can take up to 4 hours
I don't think the difference between 4 and 5 hours can be considered as a problem.

You can't find any "official" tablet with ICS yet, (ICS on Prime is coming soon) so how can you say that Samsung is SOOOO SLOW to release it ?

ICS on Prime came out last week.
I, too, wonder why no ICS love for the SGT yet. Then again, I'm just impatient!!

I'm returning my LG Optimus 2x for a refund due to sleep of death issues and was thinking about getting the Galaxy Ace....but then I read here on XDA that the Galaxy Ace suffers from the dreaded sleep of death as well!
I use wifi a lot, so this has got me really worried. With the Optimus 2x the problem seemed to be related to wifi also and it drove me up the wall. Is there any chance that this issue has been fixed in any recent firmware update on the Galaxy Ace?

stock firmware is pretty good if u ask me. rite now im still using zckpa. almost similar to cm with advance call setting feature. moreover currently it had the loudest sound volume of all ace roms. but the problem that still haunted stock rom is sod.
I should mention that in the month that I had it, I rooted my O2X and installed every ROM I could get my hands on (stock and otherwise) and nothing solved the sleep of death problem.
I'm not really enthused about the idea of buying another android phone and having to go through all that just to get the wifi working. I want it to work flawlessly out of the box.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I won't touch anything that has reported SOD issues with a bargepole, so I've ruled out the Galaxy Ace for now.

Speaking from a personal view i think you should rethink. The ace is a wonderful phone. The feel and look are unmatched. Cm7 is easy enough to install, and to be fair you should consider it for any phone you buy. It will inprove the life of your phone and increase the abilitys of it. All android phones work in essence the same. Not with cm, its your call but be informed first. Every phone has its querks, you could end up with something worse.

The O2X was a wonderful phone and I would have been happy with it -but- it crashed 10 times a day or more. There are O2X owners out there who never had a single problem with their phones so I guess I was unlucky.
I could easily go down to phone house and grab a Galaxy Ace at lunchtime, but I am absolutely sh1t-scared that it has the same defect as the O2X I just returned. I just don't want the hassle, there's no rush - and I'm sure there will be some nice phones out in time for Christmas. The Galaxy W springs to mind

Well to be fair sod on galaxy ace is on all of them to my knowlage. Its wifi related. Cm7 fixes it completely, but i understand your consern. The only otherthing id say in its defence is it in thory can be overclocked to 1300mhz maybe even 1500mhz stable. The kernel isnt out yet, but im confident with such great devs on the ace it wont be long. And lastly if your looking to mod the ace community is already established, its frustrating to buy the latest phone and watch others with lesser phones doing things your cant yet. Im honestly not trying to convince you, im just completely inlove with my ace. The last phone i liked this much was 8years ago. Would hate to see you miss out. Im an ace fan and i can do nothing but recomend it.

Sure, its a good phone at a very good price. Looks nice too. There are two things going against it in my mind though: no 720p video recording and a low-res screen. Still, I'll have to pay at least 100eur more to get those features.
So is it really fair to say that all Galaxy Aces have sleep of death on stock ROM?
with the O2X you have at least some chance of getting a working handset, plenty of people say they never had the problem.

Yeah, all of them. Takes 10minutes to flash. As for the screen i would say this. . . It may not be hd, but you find another screen this bright and clear. Ive had an iphone with the same def, a nokia 5530 with higher def and a lg gt540 again the same def and not one looked this good. Its the best ive seen. Ace is epic. . . With cyanogen its legendary! You know best thing you can do is go in the shop and ask for a demo, bet you walk out with it in your pocket.

Interesting - anyone else found the GB update to resolve the issue? from what I've read this wasn't the case for everyone.
Anyway, the Galaxy W is coming out in a few days, I think the extra cost would be worth it to get a higher res screen and 720p video recording. Plus it's 1.4ghz processor, better for games. So long as the GPS performance is better than the old Galaxy S this will be my next phone...though the Galaxy Ace is definately prettier it's cheaper for a reason
For me, versions KPN, KPO and KPT are the only ones which solves SOD issue. I think that issue is solved with all latest versions (2.3.3 and 2.3.4)
Hi everyone
So, the ICS for our beloved S2 is out and everyone seems happy about it.
However, after all this wait, I installed it on my SGS2 and did not see big difference or great features compared to the 2.3.5.
So, I wonder if you guys can share your experience with the ICS and tell us about the great features that we can not see.
Thanks so much

Great features of ICS ?
That it's causing people to mindlessly start threads about issues that don't have anything even remotely to do with development (given this is stock firmware that has been released/people are flashing) without thinking of a possible solution on their own for a moment, or without using a bit of logic and first considering what fixes a problem in GB might well fix the same problem in ICS.
Yes, I'm joking when I say it's a 'feature' (maybe). :-|
To be fair, I love the new update, but i'm not on stock, i'm using DarkyRom.
The face unlock works well for me, and I like it, keeps my pesky mates going through my phone. Battery life is good, 10 hours and it's still at 60% with basic to strong usage.
The GUI is better on DarkyRom than Stock Samsung imo.
3G speeds have increased for me, just feels much quicker and responsive. Wifi is the same as GB though. Browsing speeds seem to of been increased. overall I like it. One thing I would like is volumefix, but will wait till CM9 is officially released or something simillar.

hi guys...i'm currently using samsung galaxy ace but i'm planning of buying a s2 in the next few days...but before that i have a few questions to ask...
1)there's so many ics rom out there, which is the official ics rom?i'm so confused
2)which is the best ics rom for s2?the official ics rom,or the custom ics rom?and please give me the link
3)is the ics build stable...any bugs?
4)how is battery life of this phone?i use moderate gaming, calls, sms and some wifi...can it last for 2 days?
i hope u guys out there can answer to my questions...i'm a newbie here and i hope that i didnt cause any inconvinience in any way....thx
1) There are several 'official' ICS builds released
2) There is no such thing as the "best ICS rom for SGS2". You have your phone setup differently to everyone else, you use your phone differently to everyone else and your phone came out of the factory slightly differently to everyone else's.
A rom that runs well for me might not run well for you.
I suggest you go the development sections of the forum & read the first few pages and the the last 10-20 pages of the particular threads devoted to different roms. That way you will get an idea of the features/pluses/minuses of each rom, and also see other users' experiences with that rom.
Then you can test different roms for yourself to find one that works best for you.
3) Yes. All the non-stock ICS builds have bugs of one kind or another.
4) Too many variables determine battery life to say 'the battery life of the phone is good/bad/etc. As per 2), it's determined by how you use the phone, how you have it setup, whether you have constant good signal where you live/use the phone (poor signal means less battery life) and a whole lot of other things. Can it last for two days ? If I only used my phone for a couple of calls & a bunch of SMS per day with the phone in idle the rest of the time, I could probably get more than a week out of a charge. But it's a smartphone, and who uses it like that ?

Like with any other phone. Devs will develop, something else comes along and off they go, some Devs continue to develop.
Back on topic, try out an official ICS rom first, there are a few as they are for different regions bit any non Asian firmware will work on the international I9100.
Then have a read through the custom roms and decide what's best for you, no one can tell what's best for you its just a matter of trying.
You've got plenty of choices, stock Samsung rom, custom Samsung rom, AOSP, AOKP, CNA and Miui.

i'm from malaysia(asian country) so which official ics rom will work for me?could u give me the link??thx alot!!!
Whatever phone you buy I am sure you will find a good ICS rom that works well for you. Whether that is a "stock" samsung rom, or a custom rom like CM9, that depends. But isn't half the fun of these phones the fact that you can chop and change and try different things?
I'm using HyDrOG3N-ICS 23.03 and it seems pretty kick ass. Granted it only came out 2 days ago so I haven't had a long time to test it But I might decide to change to a different rom again soon who knows? I suggest you take a look in the "Galaxy S II Android Development" forum and look for posts with [ROM] in the name. Read about them and choose one that sounds cool. If you try it and it's not cool, just try another one
I was in a similar situation a few days ago. I had never used a custom rom on my S2 but after Samsung ICS update disapointed me, i decided to find one. I've tried quite a few, somes would have apps that crash all the time etc, some wouldn't boot. I even managed to soft brick my phone.
I then found Ressurection Remix that came with Vertemus' Domination theme.. Installed 9.6. Was great and i loved it. Then 1.0 came out, so decided to give it a try. And i can say that the speed difference was major. More fluid. Only issue i now have is that the domination theme is wierd in the notification menu ( hard to explain ... the black is just too... black on the items. its just a minor anoyance )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854&page=1589
To conclude, i think there is no perfect mod. I was really happy with 9.6 but when i tried 1.0 i noticed that the other version had a few issues.
I got a 10.1 wifi recently and am wondering if its worth it to root now and get ics installed (with the -of no camera) or to wait untill samsung gets its act together, and get the offical version.
You're asking in an Android Hacking forum, we're all rooted and I'd bet 80% are running ICS .
If you can live without the camera then definitely go for it, if you're comfortable. You could be waiting a while on Samsung, they tend to delay such things.
If do decide to root it, don't be afraid to ask questions here. Welcome to XDA.
I don't know if the question asked is appropriate or a trick question considering this forum is completely dedicated to the benefits of hacking to gain maximum benefit.

It's really not very hard to try it out for yourself and see if you like it. You can always flash back to stock if you need to.
I have CM9 ICS on my personal tablet, but am still using 3.2 on my G-Tab 10.1 because I need the camera for work. I am running the Overcome ROM on it though, which gives me a little more options/flexibility than stock samsung.
but as far as performance, there is little difference between 3.2 HC and ICS (at least at this point). There are some UI differences that I like, but they are minor changes from honeycomb, so don't expect a huge difference on ICS.
Easy answer: yes, it is. And it's very easy to install ics. Just do it and have fun.
Three more questions:
Is there any other bugs besides the camera not working?
And any links to upto date root and ics (i think i read 4.0.4?)?
Is it not possible to get the camera drivers (which from what I have read is the missing link) from the old stock version?
Fyi I have the Samsung 10.1 wifi gt-p7510
Thank you guys already I am not trolling btw i have never rooted/ flash a new operating system on android and kind of afraid of bricking my tablet.

QBKing77 has great video instructions on YouTube, check it out. Very easy. Make sure you do a backup b4 putting a rom on and make sure it's for your Tab. Only issue I have ever had is no camera, but I knew that going in and I use my S2 for pics anyway. We can't get the camera because Sammy will not release the needed info. You can brick your tablet that's a risk but there r ways to unbrick, like I said just make sure the root method and from is for your version of the Galaxy Tab.

Once rooted you wont look back and its so easy and quick to do. Much more freedom IMO, I started with ICS and its great, but went back to HC just because of the camera. Such a shame, I have htc dhd phone rooted on ics and camera works fine, just a samsung thing.
As said previously, give it a try
Question about rooting what dose it allow you to do?
Rooting allows you to gain access to the system files, lets just say its like your employee ID to get into your company
i rooted my g tab to ics once, i guess it was worth it, but i went back to honeycomb because of the camera.
It's not like camera on a tab plays a great feature, because taking pictures with the tab is like using a laptop to take a 5MP picture.
I'd say I never use the camera on my tab.......... Until I flashed ics then I just kept needing it think it's just a case of wanting what you don't have.. So I'm back to HC.
Is there any good roms out there with the camera working? Sorry for the noob question, Im a new tab owner.

Sorry to bump this, but I'm curious to know if it's easy to replace the tablet for a decent price? That's really my only concern about rooting my tablet.
Of course it is, you are in the right place
i havent flashed the 10.1 to ICS purely because i use the camera for such things as skype or google hangouts.
so im using overcome rom, but i miss being able to group apps into a folder like ICS can do
ICS Or Not??? That is the Question!!!!
Over the last 6 months I have tried every ROM listed for the Galaxy Tab here on XDA, including ICS. I must say ICS offers better battery life, faster processing and better visuals, but I am like a few others and need the camera so I am sticking with Galaxy Task Rom. Out of all of them it is the most stable, and fastest giving me Quadrant Scores of just under 3100. Using ICS I was closer to 3600 and I thought at one point hit 3800, but I think that was a fluke, but then I had no camera, so back to 3.2. For me I have compiled the best apps I could to make my tablet a screamer.....If you have any others please let me know.

Volume + set on Beats Emulation with +10 speaker increase (app)
Poweramp for a 10 band equalizer for great sound (app)
Now using the same apps with ICS made it ultra fast. But I wish the camera worked.
Definately appreciate everyone on here with their input.....my knowledge is only as good as flashing and recovery, but am trying to learn more as I move forward. Love the Galaxy Tab, it is my 10th tablet I have owned and my favorite. Now I have to figure out how to flash my Atrix 2 phone........love this site!!!!
Quick ques about ICS Roms [from what I've seen in Cm9/Muiu]
1. can you change screen mode [dynamic/movie/normal]
2. change font styles?
I don't remember seeing these options, but it was about a month ago when I flashed these Roms?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
I read the comparisons, and they are all old, so many of the disadvantages of the G version are no longer valid, ie. low availability of custom roms, etc.
At the same time, there are three things I am concerned with in I9100:
1. battery life
As far as I gathered from this forum, the battery life in regular I9100 is quite bad, and apparently G version does better in this respect. I am on HTC Desire right now - I get 1-2 days of light use with 2g and automatic Airplane Mode overnight, and I do not want to go any lower than that with battery life.
2. screen quality
Again, from what I read, G version has slightly newer and better screen.
3. GPS performance
I found nothing on this with regard to G version, but GSMarena claims the GPS performance on I9100 is quite bad, the accuracy and lock time terrible when compared to, for example, HTC Sensation.
I would welcome views on those point from I9100 and I9100G owners.

Thank you, but unless you support your suggestion with some factual arguments, your post is not much use to me. This is not a voting poll.
You made the exact same thread in the I9500/I9505 section. You need to stop (Don't bother replying, I have you on ignore).

And why exactly would I need to stop if those are two different pair of phones (which already is sufficient reason to ask them), and the questions are very different as well?
Thank you for putting me on ignore as it will save me your ignorant replies.

You are right man.MistahBungle,,why would that be a problem? He asked 2 different questions in 2 dfferent sections.Maybe he wants to decide whatever he wants to buy: S4 or S2....They are not the same questions.
and impactor,better buy the S4...newer phone,better performance,etc....but I suggest you something.Wait 1 month untill Note III is launched.Then decide.

Thanks, that is an option, indeed. However, I am not sure I want to spend that much on a phone (even if its price will be on current S3 price level), which is why I am considering getting S2.
And while doing so, I am trying to decide whether the G-version would be better for me, or not, bearing in mind I am concerned by the points from the first post, and that I never play games.

How about GPS performance? This is very important to me.
Hey,
I'm not very techy.. but i would choose s2 solely because it has better development support. So if you think you will root, and flash all types of things - get I9100
About GPS. Yeah, lock time does take quite a time, but only with data connection.
When i had wifi and enabled GPS, i remember that it took less than 8 secs before locking. And maybe it could've been problems with my data connection... you never know.
But don't base GPS on me, cause i rarely leave my city, and in my city i dont need gps so i never use it.
EDIT- tried GPS with wifi on G maps - no locking even after 1 ½ min | But as stated others could have other times, so dont base this on me.

I always use custom roms, but I don't change them 5 times a month, just find one CM-based with best battery and performance, and stick to it.
And so I read G-version has better CM support as it uses open-source CPU.
As for GPS, I always use GPS offline without data or wifi, so offline performance is what I care about.
I wonder if you ever tried using modified gps.conf available here:

I9100g (omap4, same hardware as i9100) got jellybean pretty instant. opensource hwcomposer, opensource audio, butter, working tvout
I9100: (exynos4, same hardware as i9100g) buggy jellybean, closed source and incompatible audio, no butter, no tvout, bugs which will never be solved.

still dont read a definative answer
read a lot about the G or non G s2 variant but never having done any modding I cant decide.
Battery life is very important (I might even get a 2nd higher capacity to guarantee a full day of heavy use) but I hear that isnt a problem either if I want to customize the i9100
I know the phones old now but I prefer the the size of the S2 and dont want to spend much
I plan on keeping it for a long time (will prob buy new) so It would be good to hear others advise on this for someone who doesnt want to muck around much modding but is willing to do it to get a good all round work horse?
don think I want to complicate matters with asking about the 4G unless people think its still a no brainer?
If you don't intend to play games form 2013 onwards, get G version.
Or do what I did and get i9195 - much better and smaller phone.
