Open up your phone, take out the battery, take out the sim, clean the sim contacts with a dry lint free cloth (aka something that wont end up putting fibres all over it), put the phone back together and reboot.
If that doesnt work, maybe your phone company has disallowed you from roaming outside the country and you need to call them to enable it.
Edit: are you using your Indian sim or a UK sim?

Just to clariy ... this problem isn't suddenly when your in the UK... As you state 'running India distribution unlocked' but your now in the UK

Check
Settings > About phone
See if your baseband is there, should be something like I9100<numbercode>
Check Settings > about phone > status
See if your IMEI is there.
If IMEI is not there, your EFS has toasted itself and i hope you have a backup
If your baseband is not there flash a new baseband and it should fix itself.

[Q]

I have searched Google but this problem seems to be unique to my sgs2.
I got my sgs2 from UK a week back. Its O2 branded with latest official firmware (2.3.3 and XXKE7), that's what see from phone info. I am using it on 2g network in Pakistan. The mobile works fine and connected to mobile network quickly after 1st boot. But after sometime, when i woke it up from sleep mode, it had lost mobile network connection and went to emergency calls only. This is continuing to happen everyday. I have noticed that it usually happens when the phone is turned on from prolonged sleep, esp in the morning when i wake it up. The network signals show full strength and it also searches all networks available but when i select my network it says , unable to connect try later. The only resolution is that i have to reboot the phone and it automatically selects the network. however that too doesn't work always and i have to reboot several time. Somebody suggested to kill Dialer and reconnect but it didn't help either.
Please help!!!

First update phone to newer version.
Second it might be a sim card problem. Especially if it is a very old card. Try with a newer card.

Upgrade the firmware, but before this make a factory reset. If your phone is branded you can unbrand it if u want
KE7 is very old ( it was released like June) i remember i also had some problems with it, like random reboots and freezes hope it helps

thanks guys and really appreciate your feedback. i was quite worried since i had a lot better experience with xperia x10.

JJE/Mario: Guys I have come back after a while since It took me longer to flash the ROM. I have updated it with XXKG5 ROM that I found on Intertech post, but to my astonishment, my problem remains the same. Phone stays on "emergency call only" after wake up or when I move few miles from my place. Sometimes it stays on this mode throughout the day. Strangely, GPRS/Edge works, however I do not see the 2 arrows radio symbol in notification area.
Is my phone damned or there is any hope?

that worked for me, but the problem had nothing to do with the imei number, if you look carefully. Also I think This is just temporary and it's going to revert back to emergency calls only. I'll let you know when that happens again

[Q] Galaxy s2 - not recognizing sim card

Hi,
My samsung galaxy s2 (Android 4.0.3) is not recognizing any sim card but they are working fine in other phones. In my mobile, some times getting pop up "Refreshing sim data" and NO service (selected network not available).
I tried doing factory reset, still I have the same problem.
Manually I tried to select the network, but I got "Unable to connect, try later".
I don't think its hard ware problem, because its showing the mobile number in status.
Settings -> About phone -> Status -> My phone number
other details :
Settings -> About phone -> Status -> Network -> Unknown
Settings -> About phone -> Status -> service state -> out of service
Settings -> About phone -> Status -> mobile network state -> disconnected
If I root my mobile, Is there any chance of recognizing the sim card ?
Please help me.
Is your phone sim locked to any carrier?
If you root your s2 and flash with the new rom, maybe it will work, or can be a hardware problem!

I have IMEI and serial number
OK. So that sim card works in other phones. Logically, the test should therefore be try another sim in the SGS2 (go buy a $2 starter sim from another carrier if you need to).
If that doesn't work either, then refer it to your carrier if you bought the phone from them. Frankly, if you haven't rooted your phone/flashed non-stock firmware to it/messed with it, I wouldn't do same in an effort to try and fix this problem. Chances are it won't, and you'll have voided your warranty trying to fix it.
This happened to me to last week, it turned out to be that my phone was blacklisted. Take it back to were you bought it from, the shop where I bought it from exchanged mine and handed the blacklisted one to police, I've got called for witness statement even tho there's not much I can tell them

I'm also getting the error "No SIM card" in my Galaxy S2. 8 months left on contract.
Vodafone refused to repair, due to moisture on the main board, though I'm not convinced this is what has caused the fault. I've been reading this has been a bit of an issue with GS2, for one reason or another. (That and they sent me a quote for a HTC when I have a GS2)
It was my first trip to Bangkok, I took my phone out of flight mode, received a text from vodafone, advising I could use roaming, I took no action, then put it back in flight mode.
That was the last time my SIM worked. Had a new SIM put in when I arrived back in Sydney Australia, but same issue, SIM works in another phone.
I've checked that my IMEI isn't blacklisted, that it matches the sticker inside the phone (*#06#), I have the original stock, un-rooted, vodafone bloatware ROM currently on there.
Anyone have any idea's, other than this one from the app store (GSII_Repair) (n00bs can't post links)

I had similar kind of problem. I tried different ways to resolve the problem, but couldn't do that. At last, I went to Samsung service centre, they said, it was hardware problem and they fixed the problem .
Just simply go to any Samsung service centre near to you, they will surely fix it. Mostly they will do it for free, if the mobile has warranty.

[Q] Emergency Calls Only - On Stock Now

Hi All,
I searched but I couldn't find anything as specfic as mine so here we go
I recently restored my s3 (i9300) to stock DLJ4 4.1.1 from UltimaROM, it all works fine. The modem is DLID by the way. My phone is unlocked, and i'm on the Three network UK.
After a few days however, my phone suddenly switched to emergency calls only, however, the emergency calls never had signal and there was no way for me to recover this initially, so I left my phone overnight and by morning I had signal bars for emergency calls.
I also put my sim card in another smartphone to check that it was fine - it was.
So this morning I put the sim into the s3 and eventually, after searching for searching for networks, restoring default apns etc. I got the phone registered on 3 again. However this dropped out again after say 5 mins. So I repeated, and then after 5 mins it dropped out again. Which is strange...It is also worth noting that sometimes, when I scan for mobile networks to try connecting manually, upon completing the scan it will connect for this 5 mins period and then drop out again. Also sometimes it won't connect to the internet at all, no matter what i do, and this is where I'm at now.
Any suggestions. Could this be a modem issue - but I want to avoid this because I just made the effort of going back to stock..
Thanks in advance

First thing I did - they're all correct as far as I can tell
You should ensure that the firmware is available for your phone.
I know there are least three regions producing the GT-I9300 phone. They are China, South Korea and Vietnam. However, a large amount of product from Korea and Vietnam has the software problem so the phone bricks and they are most found from Taiwan and this also happens in some users in China. They need to change the components which is made in China in order to solve the problem. I don't know whether this happens in your country as well. Fortunately, I never heard this problem occurs in Korean version(SHV-E210S/K/L and SHW-M440S) although they are made in Korea.

[Q] LG Optimus L9 P769 Sim Card Problems

Hi, I have read, looked, read even more and I have not found one thing to help me with this.
After I rooted and tried the recovery everything was fine till I powered off and restarted, now the phone powers on and I am able to connect to wifi networks but my phone is saying that it can not connect to any mobile networks and seeing as I haven't seen a way to go back to stock. I was wondering if anyone could help because I have literally lost all hope with this phone.
(P769 running 10e United States Tmobile phone)
Well, you're technically still on stock - root/CWM recovery changes a few system files but nothing that should corrupt the basic stock install. You hadn't installed Titanium and uninstalled anything else - correct?
Under Settings->Software Information do you see a baseband version reported?
What do you have under Settings->Network ?
Try taking the battery out for 30s and taking the SIM and rubbing the gold contacts (light cleaning) on a cloth or your shirt. Replace everything and power up.

I've taken out the battery and cleaned off everything. My network says Unknown, Mobile Network: Unknown, Mobile Network State; Disconnected. I've tried to connect to a network operator but it says my sim card is not allowed to do that. I've tried my sim card in friends phone and it works fine, but for some reason it just doesn't want to work on mine. My baseband version is LGP769AT-01-V10e-310=260-SEP-26-2012+0

If your phone can see networks and you getting 'not allowed' messages, you likely have a SIM problem. check with your carrier.

I have same problem in LG Optimus L9.
I already replaced SIM from Vodafone last 15 days back and today i have the same problem. Vodafone help centre are telling to chaneg the sim again. Is this handset issue?
Same problem, not a SIM card problem
I have the exact same problem.
It's not related to the SIM card as my SIM card works fine in another phone and another SIM card in my phone gives the same problem.
This happened me 2 months ago, I left the phone for dead and started using a spare on I have, a couple of weeks later I check again and it's all working perfectly, strange !
Comforting to see that I'm not the only one with this problem.
I've done a hard reset and that made no difference.

[Q] G850F - No service!! HELP!!

Hello all,
Please can someone help me?
Since yesterday my phone is not showing Emergency calls only when I light the screen up. When I unlock the phone I have a message telling me I have no service. Initially I only noticed that I had no mobile internet, but then realised that I could not even connect to Vodafone at all. So I have no service at all. I don't know what to do???
I took my phone to the Vodafone shop, where they put my sim card into another phone and it all worked fine, calls and internet. Then later it hit me that they didn't try another sim card in my phone, so I went back to them asking them to change my sim card all together as they had no spare nano sized sim cards. I got a new sim card but i still have the same problem as above.
I took my phone to the local Samsung service centre where they had a look at it. But all I got from them was to send it off to get repaired, so no real verdict at all.. bit disappointing. Samsung did however to a factory reset for me on my phone, again though all this did was wipe everything and the issue still remained.
Please can someone help me as I lovely phone which is about as good as a iPod
Update
p.s. phone was locked to Vodafone UK, but i use the phone with Vodafone Hungary, still needed to get it unlocked (strange) well i paid to have it unlocked and it worked just fine.

Hi, Yes, it has a number... I have added some more info if that helps at all?
Baseband version: G850FXXU1BOA2
Model number: SM-G850F
Network: Unknown
Service State: Out of Service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Disconnected
Device status: Official
Just a thought, I could be way out of course. Just on a hunch, as this was locked to Vodafone UK and then I got it unlocked to use it in Hungary (HU). I just noticed the message on my phone is saying "No service, Selected network (Vodafone HU) Unavailable.
