You are really confused, assuming that you have rootef your phone n installed a custom Rom, below r the answers.
1. For overclocking, you need a specific kernel... search da forum for that.
2. For back up and restoring ur NAND, do it via custom recovery, it will then b saved on the sd card. You don't need a software to view the backup. Just mount the sd card on to the system via usb n view the files.
3. If you want to view the root files of ur phone on your pc, download n install "droid explorer".
4. Root explorer is mot an intermediate software between your phone n pc. It has to b installed on your phone n files can b viewed within the phone.
If you have not rooted n installed a custom rom with an OC kernel, u can't do any of the above things. Hope this helped.

after using a2sd script not all the data go to sdcard, right? some still remain @ internal?
so whats the best gingerbread to run on the p500? are there many bugs or fc's or anything? should i just stick to 2.2(.x)
great place to ask... but will the questions be answered right away?
i thought at first, as the title implies...
right after clicking the link, i thought i will see steps and procedures and best bets for GB ports and ROMS... but somehow.. its not the idea...
i guess we should rename the title... GB discussions of some sort...
because this cant be the thread with a guide to install something....
just my 2 cents.

Hello everyone, I'm having an "issue" with CM7. Someone made a wifi fix for Beta 1, and now Beta 2 has a fix itself and it's all fine except I have to give the terminal superuser permission in order for it to work.
I was wondering if there's a way for it to automatically give permission as I have to write su everytime I turn my phone on and that's a bit lame :x
su is the root command. Whenever you want root access, you type su. It is made this way because the shell does not need root for all commands. So you may want to browse your folders via shell, and you wont need su for that.
In all linux distros, and unix too, you type su when needing root access... that's the way it works. Be happy that you don't need to type the admin password whenever going root via su, as you would in linux/unix.

No, you don't have to be a superuser for it to work. The "su" command is just needed to check if the fix is working. If you just run the command "iwconfig wlan0" the terminal gives back to you wrong values, due to the lack of superuser command. But it doesn't mean the power management or the txpower are not working.

Hey,
Welcome to this tut. It's been active for a few months now but there are some things many users and the dev's want to tell you.
1. DO NOT ask questions about when things are finished.
2. Before you ask an question use the SEARCH THIS THREAD button
3. Post tut related questions in THIS THREAD, so do NOT POST QUESTIONS IN THE DEV THREAD
4. Use the THANKS button when you get your answer.
5. Don't ask questions like "I've done everything but it doesnt work" we really can't help you with such a question cause we don't know where what goes wrong..
If your post is violating one of these "thread rules" (don't call then real rules...) then we'll just report your post. getting it deleted.. etc. etc..

FOTA: MegaUpload (Restored old one)
Ok before we start. The tutorial is now 100% Rewritten. But you still need to read carefully
Notice
Clean out your ENTIRE bada storage first cause we will need almost everything of it
Notice2: This project is still in ALPHA Stage. So don't expect a fully awesome working version yet.
In this version all KNOWN fixes are implented except for root
1. Download all the needed files, when you've done so extract the ZIP with the zImage stuff in it and place it in you bada storage root. (you can extract the .001 with 7-zip)
(i made the Images URLS's because they're to big)
1b. Connect your phone and put it in Mass Storage mode
You should copy your files like the Images below
Bada Storage root:
http://ShadowAS1.com/badadroid/storageroot1.png
This should be inside your storage root:
http://ShadowAS1.com/badadroid/storageroot2.png
This should be inside your galaxyboot folder:
http://ShadowAS1.com/badadroid/storageroot3.png
So inside the sorage root should be your galaxyboot folder and the makext2img.sh
inside the galaxyboot folder should be zImage, SBL.bin and the .IMG file
2.Then you should shut down your phone and boot it in download mode:
Vol Down+Camera+Power and you will see DOWNLOAD MODE on the screen
3.Open up multiloader and take over my config here:
http://shadowas1.com/badadroid/multiloader.png
When you click port search the name "LISMORE" should/can popup next to the right COM port
Now click download and wait for it to finish
Okay, now your phone is ready for the first android run
Boot it by holding power+menu+vol up: (see image)
http://shadowas1.com/badadroid/IMG_0052.JPG
Then this should popup (after the SGS screen)
DO NEVER, ABSOLUTELY NEVER PULL OUT BATTERY OR TOUCH THE PHONE IN THIS PROCESS
http://shadowas1.com/badadroid/IMG_0050.JPG
This can take up to 5 minutes.
Now, Two things can happen
1. The phone boots bada
2. The phone shuts down
In any of this cases your phone is absolutely fine. If you have case 2 you can boot bada to check if everythings alright if you wish.
Assuming we all boot bada shut down the phone again
Boot android in the normal way by holding the Power and Call key
=====Removing Android from your bada partitions======
On request i add this one, In order to remove all android stuff put the "mkext2images-remove.sh" in your bada storage root and boot recovery mode again
Goodluck, ShadowAS1
Good Luck,
ShadowAS1

I have followed all the steps.
Now I'm in the First-time Run section and when I start Android (end call and then start call buttons) the screen flashes, then the Galaxy S screen appears. After 6-7 seconds, blank screen and... Samsung Wave and Bada screens with bada startup!
I saw other member in other post having the same issue, but he had still no answer.
Any idea?

Some weeks ago, I decided to overclock my Ace: CyanogenMod-7.1.0-RC1-Cooper-KANG plus ClockWorkMod4. Got the overclocking kernel from ketut.kumajaya and started to play with frequencies while watching CSI Las Vegas.
In general, it's stupid idea to multitask things like this. In my case, I accidentally ticked checkbox "Set at boot", set the frequency to around 870 MHz and my phone rebooted. I have gone into the bootloop, tried almost everything:
-reinstallation of CyanogenMod
-reinstallation of some other ROM i have found on my disk
-cleaning caches, wiping etc
Without sucess of course
I have decided to check, what exactly happened with my phone, so connected it to PC and started logcat. There was a lot of errors related to files on /data partition - it did not mount for some reason. I was able to access shell from Recovery, but it did not helped me too much - /data partition was entirely broken.
I realized that Samsung uses its own filesystem for /data - RFS and I had no tools to work with it - at least did not find them. In such case, I have unpacked one of the older firmwares and found, that it contains files for soome partitions, but not for the /data.
Next steps were fairly simple - go to sammobile.com, download firmwares for my Ace and check, if it contains /data (data.rfs). Eventually found one, flashed it and my phone went back alive.
Don't know if this is best method, but at least it was interesting to investigate

In general, overclocking means that system can work in an undeterministic manner. Especially an overclocked processor can write some garbage to flash - in my case it was /data partition.
Can't belive that any "Safe Mode" could help - if you play with fire, you should be ready for some burns

Everyone knows the risks and there are more than enough warning messages floating around highlighting the BLATANT ramifications of over clocking. Call me harsh, but isn't this what we DIDN'T want to see cluttering the forums? Let this be a lesson to anyone else who decides to flash the kernel.

It is good option to have such tool handy, but one can understand, that overclocking can hit the phone in more complex way. This was my case - overclocked system damaged partition /data.
My message is that overclocking is dangerous and one should be prepared for any results including bricking.
Comparing this with usual process of installing new firmware, recovery, bootloaders etc, overclocking is far more dangerous because of uncertainity generated by the unstable processor.

Hi again,
Answering to myself : S5830XWKPO v2.3.3 makes the trick.
Bye
similar bootloop for CM7.2 perhaps with similar solution?
Hi,
I am having a similar bootloop problem for CM7.2.
I have Odin installed, but I don't think sammobile firmware page currently stocks the appropriate files. Clicking on the links for the files just links to mediafire, invalid or deleted files. for some of those files.
I do however have some backups I made with nandroid which may be incomplete: These are all of the files generated.
cache.rfs.tar data.rfs.tar nandroid.md5 system.rfs.tar
I also just installed Android Developer Tools for Linux.
Can I use any of these things especially data.rfs.tar in Odin to fix my phone.
I just interested in how you loaded the data.rfs.tar into Odin, because I have read it is very sensitive to file order, and Odin is a good canditate mechanism for bricking my phone.
I have CW5 installed. My phone can go into download mode, and I can see corresponding COM ports in Odin.
Sorry I have not posted on the most appropriate topic, but I am interested in the way you solved your problem with logcat, and then flashing data.rfs.tar
BTW: I also found this package somewhere: I think its the whole gingerbread stock rom. Simply adding the zip to the SDCARD and trying to install from SDCARD, after clearing cache etc. wont do anything. Yet on the other hand none of these files are any good for Odin either.
~/Desktop/android_device_samsung_cooper-gingerbread$ ls
AndroidBoard.mk BoardConfig.mk init.gt-s5830.rc liblight recovery sec_key.kl ueventd.gt-s5830.rc
Android.mk camerashutter kernel overlay recovery.fstab sec_touchscreen.kl unzip-files.sh
AndroidProducts.mk device_cooper.mk libaudio prebuilt recovery_kernel setup_fs UsbController.cpp
bdaddr_read egl.cfg libcopybit qwerty.kl recovery.rc setup-makefiles.sh vendor
bluedroid extract-files.sh libgralloc ReadMe sec_jack.kl system.prop vendorsetup.sh
I wonder if anyone knows the best way to get this format of ginger bread to unzip and expand off the sdcard?
Thanks so much for any help, It would be much appreciated (even if the help is just the suggestion that I should repost under a different forum topic).

hello! i had your problem with my ace and i could not find a solution at first but after a while i had worked out a solution. i find this one a bit easier to follow for noobs NOT guaranteed to work. also you will lose ALL DATA
1.flash stock through odin (2.3.5 reccomended)
2.wipe/factory reset
3.flash this: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-eHBmC1vSXGc1BRSWlqRW1Nc28/edit - this will root your device
4.afterwards flash this: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-eHBmC1vSXGeWNBOXhCVjZTRkk/edit - this will give you cwm
