Handy apps for the Transformer Prime - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I was hoping to find a Flash light app similar to the flash light on my HTC Desire HD for the Prime does anyone know of any that do work?
This is the one that's on my HTC but unfortunately it doesn't work on the Prime
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.terrynow.flashlight&feature=search_result
Also would be interested in discussing any other useful apps that others have found that work well on the Prime.
Edit: I found this flash light widget that does work on the Prime https://market.android.com/details?id=tw.abgne.flashlight&hl=en&rdid=tw.abgne.flashlight&rdot=1
Would be good to find one that looks like the HTC one.

My favorite is splashtop remote HD. The tab is nice and powerful but always nice to be able to shift the i5 into gear for the heavy lifting.

have you tried the torch app (attached)? works as a good replacement for teh htc one on my inspire

wouldn't a torch or led flashlight app end up burning out the flash alot faster on the cam? You do know the built in video recorder has a torch mode also.

Normally the led in your phone, tablet, or any other devices will often outlive the device itself... leds are pretty hearty little guys.. I wouldn't be too worried about the flash if I were you

+1 on splashtop. Have a virtual desktop running on a server for heavy tasks. When outside of my network, i go through an SSH tunnel using connectbot.

I'm the developer of https://market.android.com/details?id=droid.pr.coolflashlightfree, and anyone confirm if this app works on prime? I don't own one so I can't test it
Thanks

I use Tesla LED. its hasnt failed on me yet, no crashes. Light goes on/off when i press the button.

I use "search light" as flash light. It is lightweight, no ads, the view finder is great, especially for phones.

Sorta works. The screen flashy business is fine, but when I turned on the LED (which took me a few moments to figure out) I couldnt turn it off. Had to kill the app in the task manager to get the led to turn off.
Also, app forces portrait view.
This on my unrooted prime. Hope that helps

I came in to this thread to find new handy apps for my prime. However since the OP asked about a flashlight. I have widget, Widgetsoid, that I have on my DroidX and I tried on my TP and works even better on this. It has many cool uses but one of them is flashlight LED toggle. It also lets you put widgets in the Notification bar too. You can make quick contact widgets too. It's one of my first installs on a new device.

[Q] ICS Time Lapse - Screen Off?

Hey all,
does anyone know if there's a way to take a time lapse video with the screen off using ICS camera app (or any other app for that matter).
Cheers in advance.
I was wondering this a well, would definitely allow longer record times without being plugged in.

Hi there,
I had a similar challenge with root-explorer... Get KeepScreen from Adnroid Market, it allows disableing screen-off per app. Worked perfect for me.

Hope it helps.

[APP][CM9]Evernote/Kindle UI for ICS

If you're running the latest ICS nightly (since 2012-02-02, I think) and use Evernote, you've probably noticed that it not longer displays the tablet UI.
For some reason, the Evernote app calculates width of the screen is 4.xxxx instead of the 7.xxxx required for displaying the tablet UI.
I've modified the APK to ignore the calculation so that the app displays the tablet UI.
I hope you like it.
com.evernote-2.apk
UPDATE: Some people have asked me to look at the Kindle app too.
Looking into it, but it is a little more complex ...
If you already have Evernote, you'll need to uninstall it before trying to install this one.
Tip:
Copy this to /system/app to ensure you'll never lose it ...
That way if you update the app thru the market and lose the tablet UI you can uninstall updates

Thanks a lot for this. Tablet UI is lot better. really missed it with recent nightly....I even tried changing DPI..still no use. Your fix is really good . Thanks a lot..

Hey, cool! I read about this in your posts on the user thread. How did you do this? I don't know enough to diagnose it, but I would be interested in digging through a couple different apps in this manner.
Do you have access to the block of code you changed or are you dis-assembling this to make this work? This is a common problem across a few google apps as well (chrome, docs, etc) Just wondering if you had any insight into the root problem.
Yeah, that's why I want to know as well. I saw people asking you to take a look at the Kindle app over in the development thread, and I figure instead of buying us dinner you could just teach us how to fish, you know?
Yeah I disassembled the apk.
Essentially, I searched the decompiled files for the word "tablet" ... When I thought I found what I was looking for, I compared it against the logcat.

OMG can you do this for aldiko too?
Hey guys (and probably gals too) I'm sorry I haven't posted anything yet ... Work's been kinda hectic ...it appears I have some time this weekend, so I'll look into the kindle app ... If I have time (if the kindle is easy), I'll look at aldiko too
Since I don't really use these apps .. screenshots would help, I realize they'd be doctored and/or annotated

Can this be done for Opera Mobile Browser also ? Love it !! Many thanks Kem - El !
this would be great. http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/2011/12/07/aldiko-ebook-reader-app-updated-for-tablets/ The movie on this page shows what it would look like in tablet mode. When you install it on your nook you should be able to see the phone mode.
you can also download the apk from their own website: www.aldiko.com whithout the market.
FWIW the official Kindle app update that just showed up on my GN claims that it's fixed margins and spacing on tablets. I'm not near my Nook, but let us know if it works.

Yeah unfortunately it's not fixed on the Nook Color or the Touchpad.
I'll upload a picture of the Kindle app and describe the differences of tablet mode and phone mode on the Nook. I am very interested in having my NC as well as my TP displaying the Kindle app correctly for landscape mode. Without the split screen with two pages displayed in landscape mode, it's a long traverse to read a line across the entire length if the tablet. Lol
If you still have time to look into this, I would be very grateful. No worries either way.
Thanks for the Evernote fix!

It is fixed in CM9 on the nook color. I have tested it. The margins and line spacing is much improved. You still cannot adjust them, but it is very readable. Make sure you have the very latest version.

Hi leapinar,
I am on the latest version and the Kindle app is not in tablet mode at 160 dpi. I do see the changes you mentioned. However just to be clear, when you hold your Nook in landscape orientation does the screen split and have two side by side pages like an open book?
Edit: I disassembled the apk, but it is not clear at all to me what is triggering the tablet view/install. I tried a few edits and reassembled the apk and nadda.. At this point I am just blindly throwing darts..
Guys,
Sorry about disappearing ... I was out of town for work for a couple of days and busy on a new work project.
I've looked at the new version of the Kindle app, and yes the margins are better, but having the ability to adjust them like the phone would be ideal.
I'm looking at the code to see if I can just swap out the tablet reader view with the phone view, giving us the phone menu options.
A little slow going ...

Would just like to second this - the app is actually semi-unusable without it being switched because there's no way to access 'menu' (no hard button on the NC and no softbutton shows up in the app).

Official HTC flashlight app

So I've came across the official HTC flashlight app and figured others would want it also.
Just click on the link below and download. MAKE SURE TO HAVE UNKNOWN SOURCES CHECKED TO BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD!
Once downloaded just download a file manager from the playstore go to downloads and find it and install.
Works perfectly and has all three brightness settings. Just tap the button on the flashlight and bam your good to go and don't have to be afraid of the dark anymore!
This app is not guaranteed to keep boogie men, monsters, stalkers, serial killers, and other things that go bump in the night away, its simply a flashlight and most it can do is blind those and enable a chance to run away and piss your pants.
Enjoy!!!

For what it's worth, TeslaLED is a free Market alternative that has a Sense-widget, much like the HTC Flashlight of yesteryear. I've found it to be the closest copy (in a good way) to the HTC Flashlight widget I used to love.

[Q] Some random questions I have had

First off, how can I get rid of the little blue tab on the side with the icon shortcuts. I never use any of them. It would be great to be able to add my own app shortcuts to it but I could not figure out how. I am guessing that these are limited to only ones that are able to do the split screen feature.
Another question is, is there a program that can allow you to use your mouse and keyboard from your PC to control the phone, in a way that I have my phone next to the computer monitor, drag my mouse across over to the side, and the cursor appears on the android screen? Similar to Synergy (PC program)?
Is there a way to keep track of how much data you use over the 4g network? I don't want to go over my 2gigs a month.
I saw on a website that had "top 50 features of the Note2" that it has a feature where you can make the camera track your eyes, so that when you lay in bed, the screen does not rotate. Anyone know about this?
Also, I am pretty new to Android as this is my first smart phone ever. Is there a way to make google reader show pictures from blog artices, instead of having one app for slickdeals (iSlick) or another app for reading lifehacker articles? (Lifehacker unofficial)? I think I would use google reader if it showed pictures.
Has anyone started using Utter!? Seems like a great idea but I did not get very far with exploring it.
Sorry this is a big mess of random questions. Thank you for any input.
PS ~ I tried searching the android forum for how to control with pc mouse and keyboard but was unable to find something. I found AirDroid but i don't think that is what I am looking for.

Don't think this is possible the way you describe. They do offer a dock that allows you to plug in a USB keyboard/mouse to control the phone, but you can't have one mouse control both without unplugging it from one and plugging it in to the other.

You can't track JUST 4G usage, but you can track mobile data usage. Go in to Settings and then Data usage. You can even set an alert to warn you when you get close, and a limit that will disable mobile data after so much usage.

This is also in Settings, though under Display. What you're looking for is Smart Rotation. Smart Stay is also there and that keeps the screen on while you look at it.

Thanks, i'll try them out tonight
As others have mentioned, there are a handful of apps. In my experience they are all garbage though. Off the top of my head there is:
Air Display
Screen Slider
iDisplay
And each of them has some combination of the following issues:
500+ ms lag
Disables Aero/DirectX
Apps freeze when moved to tablet (expecially browsers)
Not compatible with 64 bit OSs
Can't set size or relative position of the tablet display
I have heard of good results from setting up VNC to stream a second monitor to an Android device, but I've yet to try it. If you find a good solution to setting up your Nexus as a second monitor, let us know. I'd love to use my Nexus and an extra touch monitor for my PC.
