I was looking at mardukeme GPS wifi on/off signal comparison and thought something was odd.

Look at the satellite numbers: 3, 6, 10...etc
But there is also 85 & 86. That's odd.
I go here. There are no 85, 86 series satellites.
I took my wife's galaxy tab and my own Galaxy Nexus outside and they got fast, strong locks. Whatever. But none of them found any satellites with a number greater than ~30.
I remember reading that our GPS chip can receive GLONASS. Maybe that's what I'm receiving but I'm still trying to find any documentation to match that possibility.
I'm also trying to find a database of GPS satellite numbers and see if they are still active or decommissioned.
Thoughts on the phantom GPS?
I'm also picking up 85 through 89
I've never seen those on any other device. Are they the Russian sats?

I mean, I don't think this makes sense but maybe they enabled them so the GPS has more change of picking up a signal?..
Here is a link showing some GLONASS satelite numbers 89-91. HTH
http://igscb.jpl.nasa.gov/mail/iglosmail/2003/msg00024.html
EDIT: Also shows 84, 86 and 87
EDIT 2: Here is the whole list I believe.
http://ilrs.gsfc.nasa.gov/satellite_missions/list_of_satellites/g120_general.html
Maybe this explains the gps crashing (where you have good signal then it suddenly all drops as though its been restarted). Maybe the chip is passing glonass which the prime doesn't necessarily have software to understand... Maybe someone could disable this via gps config files and it may be more stable?

Using GPS essentials app, I noticed it takes at least 8 satellites before I get a lock. I was wondering if there is anywhere to lower the number of required satellites to get a lock.
Not sure if this is even possible.

I hate the name of this app, but have you tried "GPS AIDS" yet?
That program was made more for SGS people, but other devices use it too with positive GPS lock results...
I'll try that app. I've used faster fix and other similar apps with no luck.
I finally found out why my GPS was slow/delayed to the point it was useless.
I took my phone apart. I noticed the cable that connects the GPS to the antanae was pulled out only by 1 mm from the clip that grounds it to the side of the case. It looked like it was plugged in and should work fine. But it did move slightly.
After I pushed it back in and rebooted I had a GPS lock in seconds. Not sure if this is the same problem any of you are having but it is possible.

Shows the wire and clip to the side of the case in the middle of the photo. In the photo he is disconnecting the GPS antanae.

My trusty HD2 has just given up the ghost and I must buy a new phone. The single most important thing to me, other than phone calls is satellite navigation.
TomTom is not compatible with either Android or WM7 so I'll give CoPilot a go, but what phone? I've narrowed it down to SGS2 or HTC Sensation. I'm coming down in favour of SGS2, but is the GPS accurate and reliable or should I go for the Sensation?
Thanks in anticipation .
Hi,
GPS its ok for me, i have 2-3 DOP (Link).

Thanks .
Is it okay in "urban canyons"? I do a fair bit of city driving, which really shows up the men from the boys.
GPS is fast and reliable. Just don't buy a metallic case to put on on your phone as this will make GPS slow and unreliable.

Mine works fine, but sometimes it takes 45 seconds or so to get a fix on some satellites being outside with no high-rise buildings or anything.

It's good on some devices and sucks on others, there was a few threads regarding precision and lock time.
Was not bad for me using stock 2.3.5, first lock would be about 3 minutes though... Worse than my HTC Desire. Other people report quick and accurate locks though.
After flashing Checkrom its less than 20 seconds and more accurate.
Hi,
use FasterFix (Link) from Market and get more accurancy and faster fix.

Hello,
Any application exists to show battery level of the bluetooth headset that is connected to Android device as dummy iphone does ? If not - where to find more info about this problem so some solution can be made under Linux first, than ported to Android ?
TIA
Rus
I'm also very interrested in such an app/widget
me too. I have a Plantronics 855 that lasts a long time, but it'd be cool to see the info on the phone.

Does it depend on the type of the Bluetooth headset?
Does it have to support showing battery level on the device?
Been looking for an answer to this question for quite some time. Anyone know what the apple app that does this is called?
I have also been looking for this kind of functionality. It's strange, my old sony-ericsson dumphone had this...
Anyway, please if someone knows of an app that can do this, feel free to share!
When my battery gets low on my Motorola Elite Sliver, I get a warning in the notification window. When I click on it the "Accessory Battery Status" screen opens. I think this is what you are wanting right? I would like to know how to get to it anytime, not just when the battery is low. At the top left there is a green phone icon, so I thought I could access it from the settings menu in the phone app, but I can't find it. I also checked the bluetooth settings, but can't find it there either. I am running the latest ICS leak on my Razr Maxx.

I am planning on hooking my S4 up to O2 or Vodafone when I get there with a Talk/SMS plan, but maybe no data.
Will this phone be able to lock in with GPS without having a data plan?
I realize I will need an app that has the maps cached on my phone, any reccommendations on which ones or if this is possible with Google Maps?
Thanks, guys.
Sygic. It is a paid app and costs a bit, though.
I could be wrong but I don't think you have to have a data plan to use GPS. Here's the reason behind my response:
My neighbor has been asking if he can use an unactivated iPhone as a speedometer in his 1930 Model A. At first, I said no, then researched and found mixed responses. So this morning I removed the sim from my S4 and drove to work with a speedometer app I had previously downloaded. To my suprise, it worked.

Try removing your sim card and navigating. That'd answer your question.

You do not need a data plan to use the standalone GPS functionality. If AGPS data is old it might take longer for a fix, but that's about it. It's the maps and software that you'd need to be cached/stored locally.
As proof, here is an amusing screenshot for you, and no, it's not a GPS glitch.
anyone have any experience with one of these free GPS apps?
I have bought a new Pixel 6 few week ago and get some missed calls and sms (where a Pixel 3a had no such problems). I wonder if I still have connection problems despite the fact that I have all upgrades installed.
I live in Germany and use o2 with LTE with a physical sim and a T-Mobile esim just for plain gsm.
I monitored the cell towers using the app netmonitor.

Sometimes I see cell towers with a by far better signal strength but they are not used. Some seconds later they disappear. Do you have an explanation for that or how to improve it?

Running stable Android 13 ? Perhaps enrolling into the Android beta program will help (QPR). It includes the latest drivers and firmware for thePixel 6 modem.
