4sopa,
I am also looking for the Sprint version of this. (RUU 2.17.651.5) for my Evo 3D.
Has anyone helped you?
I don't believe anyone has posted it yet. You can always use the 2.08.651.5 RUU and then take the OTA though
And with a handle like '4sopa', in Jan. 2012, good luck.
Lock it and run this ruu: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239821
then you should be able to flash the upgrade or some of its 'bits'.

I like sips cause the web is like the wild wild west. I think we need to start having licences and using real names and locations as part of each post. Put I think each update should have the ruu and pg86img and all released from HTC web site.
I dis that already I can't use the regular software check as i am on revol wireless with working 1x data. It tells me issue number something or another. I need the ruu as that seems the only way for.me to update

I would give you a link to the mirror but being that it's property of HTC that would make this site eligible to be blocked by SOPA.... (yes, really)
Ask HTC or Sprint, Sprint will be able to flash it for you and is probably your best bet.
You mean RUU that is in sticky thread in development section?

If you unlocked your device using HTC unlock method (www.htcdev.com), and accidentally bricked your device (like I did, my device hangs in the HTC logo screen during boot), last resort is to apply RUU to resurrect your device.
Requirement:
1. The device can still enter FASTBOOT
2. You have the corresponding RUU
Procedure:
1. Enter FASTBOOT, and then connect to your computer (FASTBOOT USB will be shown)
2. Open command prompt in your computer
3. Relock your device by typing "fastboot oem lock" (you should know what is this if you HTC-unlock your phone before), the device will reboot.
4. Enter FASTBOOT again (you will see *** RELOCKED ***)
5. Apply the RUU
6. You device will be stocked
Note: The device must be relocked in order to apply the RUU.

You can only use the 2.08 RUU. No earlier RUU's will flash. HTC built in Hboot version checks(among other checks) so if the Hboot in the RUU you are trying to flash is older than the 1.50 bootloader it will not flash.
If you are using the 2.08 RUU you have to relock before the RUU will flash.

No one in this section will have the Hboot 1.49.0012. That's the GSM version. The CDMA version shipped with 3 different hboots. 1.40, (one before 1.40) and now 1.50

DO NOT OTA UPDATE YOUR PHONE! You do not want the HBOOT 1.5 it will make your life difficult. Stick with your bootloader and if you want to UG do it via a custom ROM.

The RUU for software verison 2.08 should also update hboot to version 1.5.
Probably best not to load this version unless you're up for an adventure! The
RUU software version 2.08 which also contains Hboot 1.5 patches all previously used exploits. Meaning, a new exploit will have to be developed and released in order to achieve the same unlocked access on Hboot 1.5 as was available for previous versions of Hboot.
Hope that helps answer your question!

If your question, as I read your post was, "what update exactly changes my hboot to 1.5" and you're on the Sprint version of the EVO 3D, then my answer above is correct. Software version 2.08.651.2 contains an update to bootloader version 1.5.
Perhaps I'm wrong in assuming you're on the Sprint device and perhaps you're using a GSM version. I'm not familar with the history of the GSM software versions, but I'm sure somebody else can post up to help clarify. Not sure where else the miscommunication could have occured.
Off the top of my head and to reiterate:
There have only been four updates for the EVO 3D from Sprint for their CDMA version of the EVO 3D.
1.11.651.2, 1.13.651.7, 2.08.651.2 an 2.08.651.3 (no leak RUU yet, only OTA, minor system software/kernel changes, no updated bootloader/radio).
If you're interested in gaining the ability to answer this question yourself, the hboot version is generally listed in the hboot file name of the image provided inside the firmware.zip of the RUU rom.zip (often renamed as PG86IMG.zip) included inside the RUU .exe. Hboot file name is generally, Hboot1.4_signed.img or something similar.
Also, if you feel adventurous, you could open the hboot img in a hex editor and search for the string containing the version number! Thats an adventure I don't take very often.
To obtain the extracted rom .zip files, renamed as PG86IMG.zip files or the original RUU .exe files for any of these software versions which have been leaked online, goo-inside.me keeps a reliable collection: http://www.goo-inside.me/shooter/ruu .
Allowing EVO 3D users to revert back to any previous software version or update to the recent versions.
Hope that helps answer your question with more detail/insight or help anybody coming across this post that might have the same/related questionand resolve any miscommunication! Money back guarantee!

I am sure I know the answer, cause if it were this easy we wouldn't have so many *****ing about 1.5, but if the RUU installs the bootloader, would it be possible to use an RUU of 1.11 or 1.13 to get the older bootloader?

Short answer: No and I think the exact error people receive is "Main version is older". As far as I recall, main version information is stored in the misc partition.
We've had a few threads on this, usually the title or key phrase is "downgrading" the bootloader.
Essentially, the HTC EVO Shift was able to have the bootloader downgraded two different ways after two different releases, but neither method will work for hboot 1.5.
If you're interested in a longer semi technical explanation, I've quoted my previous posts below for convenience.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...88&postcount=2
the shift didn't have all the partitions nand write locked like the EVO 3D does.
1st time around: shift didnt 'have nand write lock on the hboot partition, hence being able to temp root and directly flash eng hboot to the hboot partition.
2nd time around: shift didn't have the nand write lock on the misc partition, hence being able to temp root and flash a lower version to the misc partition then hboot would allow a downgraded version of software to be loaded.
esseentially it seems as if htc was doing the bare minimum to protect the shift from being unlocked/rooted as all these methods were known and some were used on the HTC EVO prior to the shift software releases.
this has been covered a few times on the forums, but i hope rehashing old ideas/attempts might spark new ones! sometimes it only takes a slight tweak to an old method for it to bypass a patch and work! hope that helps!

Hey everyone, I am unable to unlock my bootloader after accepting this OTA. I just got an EVO 3D yesterday and I updated it as soon as I got it. I first checked to see if it was an HBOOT below 1.5, it wasn't so I went ahead and updated. However when i get to step 12 i believe on the htc dev site, I flash the unlock_code.bin and nothing happens just sits there. I read around and found people saying you need to take the 2.08 RUU, I tried that and when it gets to the black HTC screen I get an error 140. I was so excited to get this phone and already downloaded the rom i wanted before owning it. If someone can please help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks

not sure why you wanted to be on hboot 1.50. but shouldnt be a problem to unlock the bootloader, since it was just minor updates and still on hboot 1.50. id just try doing the process again.

That's the guide I used to HTC Unlock. Video helped. There is a post somewhere about needing to Re-flash the stock RUU.exe or Ruu.zip (renamed to PG86IMG.zip) to get the phone past the "nothing happens" step where you're supposed to get the "unlock" option screen on the phone. I haven't seen the 651.5 released as a complete RUU, but you could probably flash the 651.3 RUU, finish the HTC unlock and then run the 651.5 update. Heck, the unlock would probably work after the update, idk for sure.

I have some tools and files for you to use that will give you temp root and allow a downgrade to 2.08.651.2 rom, hboot will still be 1.50 though. However from there you should be able to unlock via HTCdev method. I gotta upload the files and write the code which I will post up here in a second. I hope you are ok with using adb and fastboot.
Hey All,
I am trying to install the OTA for ICS that was released by Rogers today for my EVO 3D.
I am rooted and unlocked but with the stock Rogers ROM and I also have S-OFF.
The problem I am running into is that I am able to download the upgrade but when I go into HBoot and try to apply it I get a signature verification failed.
Originally I thought it might have been a bad download so I downloaded it a 2nd time, same result.
So I thought, what the hell, I will turn off the signature check and try it again. This time I get an error that the 'assert failed: check_cid(getprop("ro.cid").' and the installation aborted.
Does anyone have any insight into why this would fail? I am hoping to apply this but not sure why its a no go.
Thanks for the help in advance.
Cheers, Crash
Have you ever changed your cid? run "fastboot getvar cid" and post what it says. If your cid is original for rogers, the ota may not be working because you are s-off.
Hey @patrick92260
I have not checked my CID, not really sure how actually.
In order for me to run that command I would have to be hooked up to ADB I assume? If so thats going to need to wait until I get home tonight to try that and give you the results, unless there is another way I can run that command?
Thx for the reply
Yeah it's done through ADB. If you don't really know what the cid is, you probably haven't changed it. If you have the stock recovery, then the reason the ota isn't working has to be because you are s-off. you will probably have to wait for an RUU to upgrade to ICS.
Makes sense then. Would setting S-ON make it so I can apply it? Or would that not be worth the effort?
Honestly I can wait a bit longer, we have been waiting this long for it
Thx for the help.
But you should be able to get back to S-ON by flashing Gingerbread RUU, no?
If you originally used revolutionary to get s-off, then you have radio s-off which is the highest level of s-off you can have and i would not recommend trying to set it back to s-on. i also have a rogers evo 3d and i am using the asian RUU ICS and it works fine while letting me keep s-off after flashing it so i would recommend using that RUU if you want ICS.

If he has radio s-off you can flash any RUU you want and it will not turn it back to s-on. Radio s-off is basically permanent since it removes the data in the S58 section of the phone. The fake s-off is the one you need to be careful with which is usually done by using a hacked hboot.

Bull**** Bull**** Bull****.
For getting OTA you need NOT rooted and NOT deodexed Stock-rom+stock recovery.
Don't try to make S-ON, it is great chance to brick the phone.
And your CID you can get with cid getter from the market.
Patrik, stop it plz.
Is there any risk or advantage to used to Asia one? Not sure I want to have that one my phone over the NA ones.
Would there not be a RUU or this Rogers release? Maybe I should just say the hell with it and just ROM it?

It's a toss up if the RUU for rogers or the europe ICS ever shows up here. I am using the asian one and don't really notice any difference over the rogers or europe update. If you have radio s-off you can always downgrade by flashing a gingerbread RUU if you don't like the asian ICS RUU.
I had to run the Rogers gb ruu 1.20.631.2. It then update to 631.3 when I checked for updates. I then booted checked for updates again and it updated to ics. Now I'm running official Rogers ics but as I said I had to roll all the way back 1.20.631.2 and update all the way up from there.
And it does update the hboot but you can downgrade it with ruu previously mentioned.

Somewhere in the development thread there is a thread with shipped ruus already covered to pg86img.zip. Just find the Rogers one and put it on the root of your sd card and boot into bootloader. It will detect it and install 1.20.631.2 then just manually check for updates under about phone. The first update should be 1.20.631.3 which is 9.35mb then xcheck again and it's the ics update around 306 mb. Sorry I can't link to it you'll have to search the development forum. I've had it since it was posted way back when on my phone.
Make sure it's renamed PG86IMG.zip

Ive tried to do this, after downloading it and putting it in the root directory of my phone. Hboot sees the image, stalls there for a few seconds then continues. nothing has happened. Ive tried installing it from CWM, no difference. I think i may need a bit more help then this. After it was detected, i did go and see if it was downgraded in the ABOUT, but it sits at .3 still.
Any ideas?
Okay, so for those people out there that are looking to do this, here's the functional way it worked for me (no errors, nothing happened during the update)
Download the .exe file,
EXECUTE the exe file from windows while the phone is plugges in. This will revert back to .2
Put phone into a wireless network once back up and running.
Update the phone as neccessary.
After the update, i noticed my Hboot when to 1.53.007. Now we just need to wait for a root.
Also, when i went into Recovery from Hboot, i noticed that it didnt do anything, sat there with a pic of my 3D and it had a red exclamation point. should that happen?
no luck
hi i have tried every method here with no go. i have s-on and phone is rooted. can some one post a working rom or something for the love of android!
looks like it was the bootloader it needs to be relocked using rootevo3dnew.zip. which will allow you to downgrade using the ruu file in windows. followed by the 2 updates in about phone and i got the ICS yay! if you have trouble search youtube for the video on "relocking evo 3d bootloader" it was easy, good luck ppl.
Need to go back to stock for 2 reasons.
Changing carriers.
Sprint connection optimizer does not work with our wifi setup.
So ICS,
The phone has hboot 2.09.0000, radio 1.12.11.1210
Where can i find the proper RUU?
Thank you

Are you S-off? If so you can use VipeRUU. Otherwise, there is no RUU for the latest OTA updates.
Here is the link to VipeRUU:

If you're not S-off, you can use Moonshine to gain S-off. Link is below:

Did this work for you? How long does it take to flash?
It says it doesn't detect my phone but it clearly says it's EVO in my file manager... I'm not sure what line i should be replacing and I can't reply in that forum because of my noob status...
ifi use ruu mode? how long?
manually get the unlockcode.bin file (had one saved) and put it in the subdirectory before you run this and it works so much better...
just my experience.
