I was screwing around with my Asus Prime today and I found a hilariously awesome bug, not sure why it works, how it works, but it's sometimes unstable so be careful not to be working on anything important and not save it before you try this. Also, it probably saves battery life if you don't have it plugged into the controller cable.
In a nutshell:
1.You have to have a keyboard dock for this to work
2. Plug the controller into the USB port of the keyboard dock.
3. Unplug it and push the PS button at the same time.
4. You're done!
Should work for awhile, or untill the auto-shut off thing happens with the PS3 controller. I tried it a few times, and the 3rd or 4th try it rebooted my tablet so just make sure you save anything before you try it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3-S0ckbnKs
That's pretty cool, will try it later!
If not Fake.. the it might be (part of) the cause for the problems with wifi, since apparently bluetooth is still active.
Interesting, though I'm not sure how bluetooth remaining on would or could contribute to degrading wifi. However it is an anomaly that needs investigating. Have you put this to Asus?
Probably should but I don't know if i want to. I like it haha.
Isn't the ps3 controller just connecting cause of the USB?

He said it continues working after being unplugged... That would mean a BT connection is required, but my understanding is that BT is off for you?
Interesting indeed. Just plugging in makes sense, as the Prime is built for PnP on things like that; but for it to work wirelessly without changing its BT master and with BT cut off.....
Normally when you connect a ps3 Controller into a ps3 it will also sync its Bluetooth to it, but in this case I turned off the Bluetooth and it still works after I unplug the USB. The red LEDs are flashing as if the counter was plugged in and charging so it has to be a bug with the USB.

USB over Wifi? Bluetooth over USB over WiFi, LOL!

I need to investigate something myself, though I m pretty sure it's not going to be anything unique. I dodn't do much with Games or controllers, but picked up a Sony Branded DualShock controller after mixed results with some low end "compatible" controllers. In fact, other than my son's wired xBox 360 controller, pretty much all the Madcatz, and 3 other less expensive controllers either didn't work at all or barely worked, so I gave in and got the Dualshock. Since I am holding out on rooting until I have a burning need to, I never even tried to pair it wirelessly over bluetooth. I also didn't download Sixaxis software since it would require root.
Is it normal to see a bluetooth entry for the controller after just using it wired? If so then I will have o wait till I give it up and root this thing. For now though, I see a PLAYSTATION (R) 3 Controller entry in Bluetooth, additionally when I select it it has an option to toggle using it as an input device.
I didn't expect to see any of that until I attempted to pair it (I haven't) Is this in anyway meaningful, or just typically what you would see after connecting with a USB cable to the Prime's dock USB? If normal, ignore me, I'm an idiot. If NOT normal is there any way to test and/or check if it's paired? From my research there is no standard pairing with these like most bluetooth stuff, as in no codes, such as 1111, 0000 or the famous 1234.
I will check it further this weekend. I doubt it will work, but it would be great if it could be done without root.
EDIT: Okay so all I can say is, (shocked the **** out of me) IT WORKS!
I kid you not. I have a DualShock Sony Controller running wireless over BT without root. Couldn't say exactly why or how this has come to be. EVERYTHING I have read says you need root and Sixaxis from Market. Perhaps it's just the latest builds of ICS?
How did you pair it without a code or am app?

I can confirm this works. Just plugged it into my dock via usb and it worked. Well 15 min of playing riptide made me wanna get back on mw3, well i unplugged the ps3 controller via usb. I for the life of me could not get it to work again with my ps3, i was pressing all the buttons i could, then looked at my screen and the ps3 controller was now connected wirelessly to my tf201 and damn near opening every possible app. Bluetooth was not on.
So i just plugged my contoller back in my ps3 and everything was fine.
From My S II (T989)
or My Asus TF201
I just tested it on my Tf201. you need bluetooth on in order to use the controller wirelessly, but it does work wirelessly which is the important thing. I'm excited to see what comes out for the Prime, before getting this I was excited about the PS Vita but if better games come out soon for the Prime, which they will, I'll probably forget about it considering it's another $300+ just for a device that pretty much only plays games.
Works with TF101
Also works with the Transformer TF101..
Sync the PS3 remote with the USB, once sync, unplug USB and press the Home button....
Voila!
Hey yall,
I got a quick question. My Prime for some reason will NOT connected to my PC as of this afternoon. Ive tried connecting to multiple PC's afterwords and none of them would detect the Prime at all and vice versca as my Prime would not pull up any notifications showing that it was connected. I have the Asus sync drivers installed and I know this becuase my Prime was plugged in to the PC and I was able to view all my internal memory files and was about to push a file to it when it just stopped communicating.. any suggestions would be helpful and I will give thanks.
Im already factory resetting and restoring from a nandroid..i will update and find out if it works once the restore is complete...
Yeah ...that didnt work. I even went as far as factory resetting and starting from scratch but it does not work anymore. Anybody care to jump in?
OK now my prime won't charge at all unless the screen is off. Does anyone know if this is a charger issue or prime itself???

Could be a charger issue. Do you have a dock? you can try hooking it into that first.
Inspect the charger cable, look at all the connections and see if any of them look broken or bent

Where is the USB located on the prime in the first place?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My bad...., i know it now, cause i dont have the 40pins - usb cable. Now i have to buy one myself. Sorry guys. Thanks.
I just bought an official Dualshock Pro PS3 controller and it just does not work on my prime. Right now I want to use it with usb port, not bluetooth (that would be the next step).
I installed the controller on my PC to check it's working. My usb ports are also working since I can plug USB keys. I am using ICS update.
When I plug the controller, the only thing I can do is press the power button to leave current app and go back to home menu. Nothing else works. When I press the power button the 4 lights all blink fast for 20sec and then nothing.
I looked at many threads here and on other forums but I cannot find a solution for my problem.
Please help me.
I'm not using the dock but i'am using the asus usb adapter. All I did to get it woking was turned on the bt on the prime pluged the ps3 controller into the usb adapter and pressed the power button. Give a sec and it should pair. Been using my ps3 controller with shadow gun with no problems at all. The game even lets you assign your buttons to the controller. Hope this helps

I also did that. I pressed the power button, the 4 flash lights blinks fastly for 20s. Then I can see the pad connected in bluetooth but after 20s the flashlights turn themselves off, the pad disconnects from bluetooth.
I assume that my problem is not related to bluetooth, so right now if it works with USB I will be glad!
I did the same as hungrybear and it works great, have you tried to check that the control works with a ps3? Maybe it can get recognized on a computer but not fully functional.
Errrrrmmm, what about charging it from the pc for a good while?
Plug in, turn on, turn on Bluetooth, unplug. Now every time you turn it on, it will pair with prime (BT icon will become blue). I don't think there is enough power coming from docks USB to charge it. You can't do much with it on home screens, just launch an app or so. Use left stick to navigate, but its a pain in the bottom. Some games will work with it, some won't.

Finally, I bought a new ps3 controller and it's working great now.
I don't know what happened with the other one, I bought it very cheap on Ebay, the looking and plastic case was exactly the same. Maybe a fake sony gamepad I don't know...
I bought a Viewsonic g tablet on sale a year and a half ago and until this day it meets the light. (It was only touched when purchased then back to the box)
I followed the instructions to the letter (new on this) and everything seems to be working, I have a Malata zpad dock DS-A002 supposed to be fully compatible with the g tablet and I placed the tablet on the dock, connected HDMI in the TV but nothing happens.
Don't see an option in settings to select output to TV.
Many thanks in advance.
Forgot to mention, tried this on the TV which is an LG and monitor which is a Hanns-G
I have to say that this is a first so far. When I read this I went ahead a connected up my dock which is the same make and model as yours to my TV and it works. HDMI is sometimes a pain especially with the newer TV's that are out. You also got to have the dock powered up if you haven't done that. If the power cord is connected and the tablet displays the dock clock then connect the HDMI to the dock with the TV turned off. After connection is made turn on the set and make sure you are on the proper input. It should work, but if not try a different TV.

Thanks for the reply
The LCD TV is a couple of years old, the LCD monitor is 3ish years old
My mother has a 5yr old LCD TV, that's another TV I could test on
The dock is powered up using the charger that came with the gTab
The tablet displays the dock clock when placed on the dock
I've tried different combinations:
Dock powered up, TV off and plugin cable, gtab on then place on dock, turn TV on
Dock powered up, TV off and plugin cable, gtab off then place on dock and power on, turn TV on when gtab is on the dock clock
Dock powered up, TV on and plugin cable, gtab on then place on dock
Dock powered up, TV on and plugin cable, gtab off then place on dock and power on
TV detects HDMI when the gtab is placed on the dock, but after 3-5 secs says no signal meaning it does detect HDMI (shows up as an option, I've tried on all 3 HDMI inputs btw) but it doesn't show up an image.
I've tried these methods in the TV and the monitor, nothing
Doesn't make sense to me since everyone in the thread hasn't had this issue, should be plug-and-play right?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1900562
Should I backup the current install and go back to the stock crappy ROM just to test it out? (Wipe everything as instructed before doing so?)
Thanks
No since in going all the way back to stock to test it out. Have you by chance tried a different HDMI cable. You might have a faulty connection or even a dirty connection will make it loose its connection. You may also want to check to see if the TV has a default native setting set. The gtablet will display a image like a PC I believe. Will have to connect it up again to see what res. the device puts out at default.
Alright find the link up solution. I tried different ways of connection all with failure to display on my TV with the exception of this. Try it and you will be satisfied.
1st. Place you dock near your TV with power cord and HDMI cable both connected. Don't connect other end of HDMI cable to TV just yet.
2nd. Have tablet turned on and fully booted up. Then place tablet on dock and leave the dock clock displayed.
3rd. Turn on TV and set the input to the HDMI connection you are about to connect to. Then connect HDMI to that input that is in TV and the display should reflect the device.
Let me know if this works. Thanks.

Hi, yes I tried 2 different cables, different ports, cleaned up (blow air) into the TV and and dock ports (dock is brand new never used from a year+ ago)
I couldn't find a default native setting on the TV.
Really sucks that there is an awesome ROM for the gtablet and I can't use it on the bigger screen, intention was to watch Netflix and movies, besides reading
The tablet is one of those projects that never happened and when I finally manage to get it going this happens...:crying:
Read the addon that I posted. It will connect if you connect it in that order.

Hi Nobe, it still doesn't work. I just don't get it.
TV recognizes the connection (shows as plugged-in) but says no signal.
Unfortunately monitor is not as advanced as a TV, simply says no signal.
Faulty dock? It charges fine
Thanks
Went to stock, and image shows up fine on TV
Is there something I could change, DPI,res? on the current SmoOth install (have backups) that could potentially fix the issue?
Thanks

I keep mine at 160dpi. The issue is that you have to connect everything to the dock before connecting it up to the TV. For some strange reason the dock settings doesn't recognize the connections being made. The dock works fine it is the drivers I believe that are kernel related. If you power up the dock with the HDMI connected to it, then place tablet on the dock, then connect the HDMI to the TV's input with the TV on and turned to that input. Then it should display onto the TV without issues. Done this multiple times when this came up and this was the only way for me to get the dock to display the output of the tablet.

The thing is I did exactly as you said multiple times to be sure.
Using SmoOth image does not come up
Restored to stock ROM and image shows up fine
I'm going to try a fresh SmoOth install and see how it goes or is there any way to check the drivers or make adjustments to it?
Thanks
Any advice on checking the drivers?
Thanks
Actually the drivers are there and working the way they are suppose to be. I do believe that it might in the way it is communicating with the TV still. I am currently working on something that might help out, but I want to test it fully before suggesting it since most everyone doesn't use this feature.

It is really odd that doing the same process on the stock rom works.
Thanks a lot for the follow-up Nobe
Curious if anyone found a solution to this problem? I too have the exact same issue with my Gtab even after trying the solution posted with different cables and such. Stock rom works fine though.
I'm wondering if Nobe found something
Hey guys, just picked up two of these for $12.97 each at my local gamestop local store:

They work great with asphalt, Mupen64 and everything I've thrown at them, nice controllers imho, check them out. The hell with paying $40 for controllers, these babies rock.

Can't Pair
I bought two from Amazon and can't pair either. I unboxed one and left it charging for almost a day (overnight + during work) and the lights were cycling before I pulled it off the charger. The manual or FAQ on the site didn't offer a fix so I started hitting random buttons and.....the lights went off but I couldn't get them to come back on until I put it back on the charger then the same light cycling began. I poked around on the site and found a firmware update. I updated the firmware and I still have the same pattern. I realized during the firmware updating process that the light cycling is update mode which should require pressing UP + A + Reset, which I definitely did not do prior to upgrading. That night I charged the other for a full day (overnight + during work) and I immediately encountered the same pattern. I'll probably return them in two days unless someone posts a solution. :crying:

Did you get a chance to try it? I read online (amazon reviews) that the 2nd controller pairs but they can't seem to get the second Nyko Playpad to go into two player mode (MAME).
I love this controller and for $12.67 it is a nice deal. I don't want to get a second one if it doesn't work for 2 players.
Did you ever figure out this controller? Had the same issue but I figured it out and its not as clear cut as the directions state so if you need help just reply or send me a pm and I will walk you through how to get the controller to work.

I just received mine and I'm having the same issue as above. Any chance you could help?
To update firmware or not? Might want to read this first
Hi all,
tl:dr / summary - Some Nyko Playpad Pros have issues with charging or arriving in update mode (cycling all lights when charging). Updating the Nyko Playpad Pro firmware sometimes fixes the issue, sometime not. Even if you get a good one, you may not want to update the firmware anyway.
I've been looking for an active forum to post this info in and get help from. Reddit didn't seem to have any good threads dedicated to the Nyko Playpad Pro, and Nyko's website is pretty much useless.
Here's my story. I bought one Playpad Pro from Amazon and when it arrived I read the sticker that said to charge it for an hour minimum before use. I have plenty of micro-USB chargers so instead of using the included one I charged it via my phone cable. As soon as I plugged it in all the lights on the controller started cycling. I hadn't read the directions yet so I didn't know this was odd. Went back and read the instructions and decided to use the included charging cable. Did that and the cycling stopped so I let it charge.
After it was done charging (light was blinking) I tried to turn it on via the home button and it would light up while I held the button down, but as soon as I released it all the lights would go dark. If I connected it to the charger I could get it to turn on and stay on, but that was unacceptable.
Eventually I ran across some information about updating the firmware via PC so I tried that (did the whole UP + A + Reset thing to get into update mode) but it didn't fix the issue, so I returned it to Amazon.
I read a bunch of reviews on Amazon and there were a ton of complaints about units being DOA like mine. I liked the price of the Playpad Pro compared to others, though, and saw that those who got a good controller were very happy with it, so I decided to play the odds and ordered 3 more of them from Amazon, figuring I could return the ones that don't work or I don't need.
I got those 3 controllers earlier this week and I've only opened 2 of them because both of them are working. Both of them would pair with my Nexus 7 (2012) and Moto X (1st gen) out of the box, however they wouldn't connect again after cycling them off then on. I'd have to re-pair each controller each time I turned it on. And, the Nyko Playground app wouldn't recognize them to update the firmware (I eventually read elsewhere that you need an Android 4.1 device to run the firmware upgrade via Android). So instead I updated one of the controllers via the PC updater. The Nyko Playground app would then recognize the controller ("Controller Synced" displayed in green at the top-right of the app and allow me to update the firmware in the app). This solved the pairing issue, but I noticed that android recognized the controller differently after the update. In the BT settings the updated controller displayed with a keyboard icon, while the non-updated controller had a joystick icon.
The keyboard vs. joystick difference wouldn't be relevant until I started trying to use each controller in RetroArch. Even though performance was fine for the updated (keyboard icon) controller in the Android OS and other games, in RetroArch I experienced a significant lag/delay after pressing a button. Furthermore, the updated controller's left thumb-stick would not translate to D-pad movements. On the other hand, the non-updated controller (joystick icon, requires re-pairing at each power on) did not experience any lag within RetroArch, and the left thumb-stick could be used in place of the D-pad.
I'm pretty new to RetroArch so maybe there is a setting I could change to fix the lag and left thumb-stick issues? Or maybe there's a way I can have Android treat the updated controller as a joystick/gamepad instead of a keyboard? For now I'm jumping through the hoops of re-pairing the non-updated controller each time I power it on. Other than that the controller is great.

I bought two of these controllers from local gamestops for $13 bucks. their phasing them out. both do not work unless connected to a power supply. it seems they are so old that their batteries do not charge. some do not charge at all. I returned two of them. I would recommend staying away from these old controllers as I don't believe they have a long life expectancy. Just saying.
My playpad pro would not hold a charge and would only work if connected to a usb power supply. I decided to try an upgrade.
There is a firmware updater app in the playstore but it specifically says it can only be used on android 4.3. I uninstalled and found that the "nyko playground" app in the app store was for doing upgrades on all other andoroid os's not 4.3
I was able to get the firmware updated. Here is how I did it. ( iwas not able to confirm the update, just that it said it completed)
Select "controller setting on bottom switch of joystick. not mouse, not icad, and not app
I connected it to my rooted firetv. I physically connected to a hub connected to the usb port on the firetv. I also connected it via bluetooth to the firetv. I uninstalled "nyko firmware updated" and installed "nyko playground" I selected sync. I then used a mouse to select the IME and checked off the "nyko playpad" it then asked me to select a android or pc. I chose android. I selected updated. it took a minute. it said successful. it then asked me to unpair the device and disconnect from back to firetv and connect to separated powere\ supply. and then "bluetooth re-pair" the device.
we will see the device holds a charge now.

For me the firmware update did not help. My controller would power on with the home button held down, but power off as soon as I released the home button. The battery obviously had some sort of charge since the light on the face of the controller would light up, but maybe it wasn't enough output to actually keep working.
It sounds like your controller is similar but exhibiting slightly different behavior, do maybe it will work. Please post an update when you have one.
Good luck!
