Unnamed 1.32 vs 2.1 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Is battery life.better on 1.3.2? I am using gokhan 2.3.7 with unnamed 1.3.2 at the moment. Are there any advantages to new unnamed Tom?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App

UnNamed v1 is KH7 based while v2 is KK6 based. That being said, 1.3.2 won't have the battery drain issues associated with KK6 that v2 will have. Entropy512 details the KK6 firmware bug a little bit in his known identified battery drainers thread.

Nitox, i saw from your signature that you are on 1.3.2. I work in a place that has low signal and usually prefer to stay on wifi all day but I have noticed more drain on wifi than on data. Have you tried 2.2.1?
I'm just debating if I should go to the KH7 version of unnamed.
Any opinion or imput?

I did switch to v2 when gtg released it, but ran into the wifi associated battery drain issue every once in a while (which drained 6-7% per hour overnight). It was stable for the most part but I decided to revert back to 1.3.2 to avoid the issue entirely, especially since I didn't notice any real functional difference between the two.

Solution to your problem maybe?
Interesting thread... so should there still be wifi drain if we install 2.2.1, but then flash the KH7 modem on instead? I personally see quite a bit of wakelock with this setup but i don't know if it is more than is normal.
I guess I dont really understand whether KK6 is somehow built into 2.2.1, or if it is a completely separate entity that just comes with the rom.

Every ROM is based on a certain version of Android (KH7, KK6, etc). What this means is that the developer creates the ROM with that version installed. KH7 is the version of Android that was shipped with the phone, so everyone who bought the phone was running KH7. So at the time that gtg first started developing UnNamed (ie. UnNamed 1.x.x), he was building his ROM off of KH7.
After the KK6 source was leaked, he finalized v1 with UnNamed 1.3.2 and released UnNamed 2.0.0 based on KK6.
I don't think the KK6 bug is modem-related: I'm actually running the KK6 modem on 1.3.2 and haven't come across the wifi bug. I don't know much about the root of the problem, but I'm assuming it has to do with some coding issues within KK6 itself. This thread has some more details about the bug.
[EDIT]
I'm not going to pretend like I'm an expert on the bug. In fact, I know barely anything about it, besides the fact that it exists, is KK6 related, and that I've experienced it before. Reverting back to 1.3.2 was mostly just me heeding Entropy's advice to abandoning KK6 and avoid the problem entirely.
[/EDIT]

Correct me if I am wrong but here is the way I understand the versions. There are three variables at play here: the modem (KK6, KH7, ect.), the Android version (2.3.4, 2.3.5, etc.) , and the kernel version.
I asked about WiFi performance in another thread in Q&A and Entropy responded saying WiFi is controlled by kernel and Android version. The WiFi bug is actually associated with the Android Version 2.3.6. Avoiding rom's based on this version will ensure you do not encounter this bug.
I currently have UnNamed 1.3.2, which is based on Android 2.3.4, running Entropy's latest kernel and I have had better battery life than compared to running 2.3.6 based roms (UnNamed 2.2.1 and SHOstock 1.8.1).
My advice for best battery performance: find a rom based on Android Version 2.3.4, flash Entropy's latest kernel, and choose a modem that works best in your area.

I'm fairly sure it's a bug with only samsung builds, namely KK6

Yeah it's a samsung build problem but what I mean is that it's a bug that is found in the Android 2.3.6 build provide by samsung.

Thanks everyone, it all makes sense now! Especially great explanation by nitox.n2o ... still trying to figure out how to use the "thank" function in these forums
Ill try 1.3.2 and see if that helps with my wakelocks! Its probably also due to the fact that I have poor reception at work and my phone is trying to constantly trying to find the best cell-tower to use

[Q] Question about baseband versions

So when I had my D1, the general consensus with baseband versions was "try the different ones available and use what works best for you and your phone." The baseband versions did not match the ROM versions, so it wasn't a big deal.
In reading the Fascinate forums, the general consensus seems to be "use the baseband that matches your ROM base (i.e. DJ09, EB01, EA28, etc). Has anyone actually had problems using mismatched basebands and ROMs? My phone updated to EA28 right after I got it (about a month ago), and I've been on the EA28 baseband since then. I flashed to DL30 the night I got it, and have been running SC 2.3 for a couple of weeks (just updated to 2.6 yesterday).
Anyway, I'm just curious if there are any real issues that have occurred with this. Thanks,

I can verify that this can happen. I also had DL30 build and EB01 baseband for a few days and didn't notice any problems at all, though. I think it depends on the mix that you have.
The only issue you should have with a mismatched baseband would be sms/mms not working properly, and potentially poor battery life.
Loss of haptic feedback/vibrate usually comes from using an incorrect kernel for the rom you're on.

What's a good 2.3.4 Rom?

Whats a good 2.3.4 rom that has somewhat good battery life, One that is very fast gets good linepack/Quadrant scores, And lastly a rom in 2.3.4 that is stable.
If anyone could point me towards a Rom like this it would be very much appreciated.
I wouldn't use a 2.3.4 ROM yet, not all the kernels are compatible with it. It could bork WiFi, camera, etc., since the kernel source for 2.3.4 hasn't been released by HTC yet. Also, there isn't much of a difference if you're just gonna be running a custom ROM on it.
Alright thanks for the tip so right now I'm on the stock 2.3.4 rooted ROM I can just convert back to a 2.3.3 ROM without any issues if I'm correct?

I'm using Synergy lastest build, just use subversion and keep up w/ every change and add your own stuff to the apps and take out those you don't want.
Plus the new wifi tether beta5 works so got all my functionality back.

[Q] Stock rom instability

Good morning everyone
Seems to be that my GSII has serious issues running his stock rom (continuous reboots, not-working 3g etc.). I tried several factory resets, but nothing worked 100% . CM fixes some of my problems, but the only full-working custom rom is MIUI, that seems to be stable and very neat. Despite that I still prefer the custom rom (yes I'm probably insane), or a more traditional one like CM and I really would like to understand what kind of problems can generate such a massive amount of errors and reboots.
Could be a hardware problem? MIUI works fine, I can't explain why I still got problems with other ROMs.
Sorry for my bad English, thanks in advance
Without telling us the version of the stock rom you are using, we can never give you any answers.
I'm currently using
2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] #2 Kernel
Gingerbread.xwkj3 Build
That's not the original stock ROM, just one I found (here on xda I guess...)
Is there some kind of hardware-check I can run by myself, just for exclude manifacturing defects?
if you want to check to exclude hardware defects, u could go to the dialer and press *#0*# .. it will give u a list of tests which allows u to pinpoint any hardware defects ( if it exists) .... but if the problem is with the 3g, you could reflash your modem..
Initial problems were strictly connected with 3g's use, after a few hours of use i've noticed slowdowns using sms, then it started crashing and random rebooting. That's the same reason why I initially switched from original ROM to CM. I mean, I know that Samsung's ROM is not the best one at all, but I can't figure why it's so instable on my device.

As that the oldest stock rom try a newer one .

Updating: now my GSII works with latest stable Cyanogen, except for the 3g that's still not working. Should I reflash modem, as suggested by roophz?
That old kernel is known to cause random reboots.
Update to a newer stock rom.

Update 2: I switched from the old stock rom to the latest cyanogen stable version, then to a newer stock rom and then back to MIUI again. Still no life signals from 3g.
How is that possible?

Dead links to old ROMs,or alternative ROMs suggestions

Hi!
I have recently bought a second hand Vibrant.
Seller had MIUI on it, which I didn't like, for a few reasons.
One was non working GPS.
So, I installed latest stable CM 7 , which I like, BUT, GPS doesn't
work with it too. As I understood, that is common problem with 2.3.3
based ROM and Vibrant.
So I started looking for 2.2 based ROM and faced the problem, that
most links for these are currently dead.
I have succeeded to download Toxic Crazy8 and few versions of bionic,
but my recovery (version 5.0.x.x) refuses to flash them, as they are
in "old format" .
So, long story short, I am still looking for a ROM that will make me happy,
and thus need your help .
My requirements are :
Deodexed ROM, so I can apply the RTL fix on it ( or with built in RTL support).
Working GPS
Good battery life
Not too slow
As new as possible ( may be 2.3.x if all the above apply)
Should include FFC mod support
with working download link .
So, your help, suggestions and advices (and download links) are welcome!
Thank you in advance!
First and for most I suggest the ICS Passion V11 rom ....but if you want to go back to the extremely stable roms among us you will have to flash an older clockwork something that can be done in clockwork mod. Many people suggest Project V it was a great rom, but most would say that you can't go wrong with the bionix roms. Again though ICS Passion V11 (4.0.3 based) is definitely a modern winner though.

ICS PASSION.
Stable fast GPS works and its 4.0.3

If you want the newest, latest and greatest, the two posters above me nailed it. Passion is awesome and fairly stable.
But if you are wanting a 2.2 ROM, fisherman (I think that's his name) is updating Bionix and should have updated links.
ICS Passion
Thanks for all the replies!
Let's say that you've convinced me, and I am going to try the ICS Passion.
Few more questions regarding it though.
As I am totally not familiar with ICS, does it have RTL support?
I recall I have read somewhere it does , out of the box...
Does ICS Passion have support for FFC mod, or , specifically, will
I be able to have video chats on Skype or it's alternatives?
Thank you in advance!
Mulder check your PM box.
If you don't end up liking the ICS, there are these 2.2's that are solid builds and you can flash them with the CWR version in my signature.
Toxic8 (which you tried but with the linked recovery it should work-did for me)
Deranged9
Bionix
Bionix-Fishman redux
Trigger
Bi-winning
2.3's have battery and memory issues, so buyer beware.
Oh, and how good is ICS in terms of battery life?
I get 2 days out of her...

[Q] latest kernel for miui 2.2.3(GB) SGS2

hello.
I went back to miui 2.2.3 after getting annoyed with all the little bugs in different ICS.
GB is stable enough for me.
currently i'm using SiyahKernel 2.6.14.
i know that i cannot use SiyahKernel v3, beacuase it was designed for ICS.
is there any NEW kernel for GB? or everyone has passed to ICS?
i have tried searching for days, and didnt find any current kernel.
thanks.
Doubt you'll find anything more 'recent' than that last build of Siyah. Almost everyone's moved on.
If their is any new kernel its posted in the usual place .
Yes most are on ICS and i am even nearly on ICS once i decide what i want .
