[Q]what are some good external battery packs. - Motorola Droid RAZR

As we all know the battery life isn't the greatest for this phone so I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions on good external battery packs.

I have two that I own. For a single charge (or a couple from ~40%-~90%), I use PowerGen 2900mAh UltraSlim Power Bank Charger. It's small enough that if you wanted to you could Velcro it to the back of your Razr and has a built in Micro USB which is handy.
For longer stints away from power (travel, camping, etc.) I have the New Trent iCruiser IMP1000 which gives me 6+ charges and is still fairly compact at 4 x 3.75 x 1.125 in.

Thank you.

I should add that I have found using Juice Defender Ultimate, I rarely have any power issues. With normal use (30 min stream audio, some camera use and pretty frequent use of text/email/checking in on forums) I can easily go all day on a charge. I'm at 12 hrs and 51% right now after a typical day.
So if you haven't looked at JD, I'd recommend it. They have a free version and two paid. You can compare their attributes here. I went with the Ultimate and figured I'd grow into it, which has happened. The more familiar I got with it the more I find myself taking advantage of it's flexibility and options. Definitely a great app!

Here's my review of the New Trent IMP99D. It has a slightly smaller capacity than the New Trent that Sally talked about, but mine can charge two devices simultaneous (provided that the second device is a tablet).

Really? It lasts longer than my Bionic which was longer than my Charge which was longer than my Dinc.
I think that for the size of the phone, the battery life is FANTASTIC! However, if you invest in the New Trent like we have, you'll be happy.

battery life problem
My battery last at most 12 hours under moderate usage.. Is that normal? I really want to get an external battery charger that is below 30$
Where can I get it? Any suggestion

PowerGen makes a nice little 2900mAh charger that's $27 at Amazon. It even has a built in micro USB cable.

One more vote for the New Trent ^^

check at your Verizon stores for the Motorola external battery pack. The new one has a grey USB cord and sells for $40, but some stores still have the old ones with the blue cord on clearance for half the price (I ended up paying $16.50 total with my company 20% discount). They're the same exact thing as the new one but just with a blue cord. I've been happy with mine, even lent it to a few iphone guys at work to give them a charge.
Also, check stores like Office Depot, etc. in their accessories section. Yesturday I just happened to run across a "iGo" backup charger/portable battery pack (1800 mAh) for $12 on clearance regularly $40.
I tried posting links but I guess noobs on here can't post links.

Anker 5600 mAh slim small, variety of adapters only $39.99 on Amazon.....

SallyC, i have been looking at getting that PowerGen 2900mAh pack. I cant find the answer to this. Can you charge the battery pack through the Micro-usb connector?

Yes, it can be charged via USB.
Fyi, besides the micro USB output charging port with built in cable, there's a micro USB input charging port and a USB female output charging port for charging any device via USB. It also has a LED flashlight.

These things work great if you're out hiking or snowboarding on a mountain and want GPS or music with you all day. Just put the battery in your backpack and have the cord coming out the headphones hole to your phone.

Yeah...I've got one of these http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-XP18000-Universal-External-Netbooks/dp/B002K8M9HC that does a pretty awesome job...I've used it with my iPad on some international flights for video marathons and keeping the iPad charged at 100% barely put a dent in the power pack...the Rezound would just be a blip

Interesting device. Seems pretty versatile. A bit heavy @ 1.14lb though reasonable if you need to power other devices like a tablet. Funny the Amazon page doesn't really list any specs on it though.

I bought this one about 3 months ago: amazon.com/gp/product/B005HG3R66/
It's not quite at high capacity as the others linked here, but I can get 2-3 full charges from it on my Rezound, which is perfect for what I need. I typically mainly use it when I am riding my motorcycle and want to be able to send someone a Glympse without my phone going dead on me.
Indeed Incredible.So great!:good:

Recommended external battery ?

Has anyone tried one of these external batteries with the razr ? If so any they could recommend first hand?
(this woudl be strictly for trips - like at airport or on airplane - not for daily usage) ?
I have the zagg sparq 2 it's nice cause it holds 6000 mAh but it's heavy. I wouldn't have bought it for 100 I paid 50 on Cyber Monday so I'm happy with it.

I'm having really good luck with the Anker Slim Talk through Amazon. It's so thin and compact I attach it to the back of the RAZR with Velcro when I need to use the phone and simultaneously charge the battery. Can get two RAZR charges out of one Anker charge. Has a built in pull-out mini phone cord-like connector.

I got the Anker Astro 5600mAh which is bigger than some might want (3.66*1.69*0.87 inch) but I was wanting something to toss in a bag that would provide multiple charges in the event of a power outage, long heavy use (streaming a lot of video) or possibly being away from electricity like camping. I wish I'd had it on a trip recently as I had trouble finding a place in the airports to plug in. That's what pushed me over the edge to get it.
I think I'm gonna invest in Seidio's vault when I can afford to...
http://www.seidioonline.com/charging-vault-usb-wall-charger-portable-battery-p/bd2-pbpt22-bb.htm
Only 2200mah, but I'll probably only need it every once in a while...

Having good luck with a New Trent iGeek IMP99D 9900mAh. Has dual USB 1A and 2A outputs. Comes with retractable cable and adapters for mini and micro USB. While travelling, it lasts me 3 days for my BB9810 and Razr.

Trent Dual-port Pack IMP50D 5000mAh External Battery pack

Have anyone tried or use this on the Razr? I saw it on sell for $29.99+ free shipping and 5000mah is pretty good for the price.
http://www.buy.com/prod/new-trent-dual-port-pack-imp50d-5000mah-external-battery-pack-for/220172344.html
I notice the benefit is that the battery pack can be charge through a USB and it has two ports. It seems to be more of a hit than a miss for android phones from reading most of the reviews. I might just bite on this for the price.
I have the New Trent IMP1000 which I like. Gives me 6+ charges. Mine is single port but I think they will be changing that to duel port soon.
The second port is 2A, btw, and not for phones, which are 1A. It's to charge devices like the IPad 2 although they also will charge with the single port model.

I am probably going to go for IMP70D because it can be charged via uUSB, which is a huge plus over an additional power adapter only for the battery pack.

Bought the same pack from a different seller a couple months ago. I think I paid about $10. Regardless price can't be beat.
Pros:
Pretty good life, roughly 75% of OEM.
Cons:
Charger has since crapped out, one of the pins broke off inside.
Batteries wouldn't charge in phone, gave message "battery disconnected" on screen
One of batteries died on, wouldn't charge.
Overall a good deal so long as your charger doesn't crap out like mine did. I've had this same charger come with almost every cheap battery pack ive bought for different phones. It's the exact some one except the size of the battery slot changes for each battery. This is the first one i've had crap out so i'd say its a fluke.

How much did you pay for yours, $30?
I have this one as well.
I have the same pack and I purchase from the same listing at Amazon. It allows me the added assurance of battery power.
CONS:
The batteries wear down faster than the OEM battery that comes with the phone
Something else to carry so you need to have them in your pocket or a traveling container of some sort to carry them with you.
PROS:
Fast swap with a fresh full charged battery.
I love the charger has an USB port where you can plug your micro usb cable in and change the battery in the phone at the same time that you charge one in the dock.
It was worth the buy for me. I'm always looking for more ways to accent my device experience.

No just get another phone with a bigger battery or removable battery. Or buy two DNA's, 2 phones would take up less space. When one phone dies turn the other one on.:silly:

While I haven't purchased it myself (highly considering it though, will need to do more research), this seems fairly interesting.

Here's a "review" that I watched/learned about its existence. Doesn't help much... anyone care to explain which port we would use to charge the DNA? The 2A or the 1A?

It really doesn't matter which port, I don't believe the DNA uses more than an amp to charge, but you can't damage it by using the 2A port.
This is correct! The phone decides how much charge to pull preventing incorrect chargers from damaging

use the 1 amp. When using car chargers that have 1 and 2 amp choices, my phones have always charged @ 500mah on the 2 amp side but 1 amp on the 1 amp side. I think its to protect the phone. There are battery apps that will tell you how much charge the phone is getting.
http://www.amazon.com/5600mAh-Exter...d=1353451168&sr=8-2&keywords=external+battery
I use the 5600mA version (though only has a charge rate of 500mAh, but the biggest one can even charge a laptop and it goes for less than $45, the smallest one is about the size of two fingers put together and the largest one about the size of a 2nd phone (though probably a bit thicker) and has a 3Ah max charging speed
edit: i was looking at the 10000 mA version and it seems that the astro3E doesn't have the laptop charging, but i found the regular one (astro3) that does have the output for laptops, but is also selling for $60.
What about MintyBoost? I'm planning to make a few. The main feature is that it works with standard AA batteries (or AAA or whatever gives it from 1.5 to 4.5 volts or so, rechargeable or not it's not picky about source) and you can hot-swap them in the field with fresh or even cannibalized ones (you can easily "increase" the amount of power you carry with you without buying another expensive charger by just having a stash of cheap rechargeable AA).
Anyone tried? Any bad things about it?
I just got the EasyAcc 12000mAh one from Amazon for $40 and I highly recommend it. 12,000 mAh so roughly 5 full charges for the DNA. I'd post a link but I'm new.
I've got the Motorola P4000 from VZW. It's nearly perfect. The form factor is exactly what I want...very very thin. It also has a built in MicroUSB cable, which tucks nicely into the lip around the unit. Both of these are features I wanted. It also accepts a USB cable to use a separate cable if you prefer, but the integrated cable is huge to me. It's recognized as a 1A AC charger and charges fast.
There's just one fairly big problem though. If I'm in certain areas, presumably where signal is a bit iffy, it'll kill my signal when I plug it in with the integrated cable. Interestingly it seems not to do that if I use a separate cable -- even if the phone and the charger are in the exact same spot as when I used the integrated cable. So it seems like there may be some kind of interference that isn't being shielded with the built in cable. It's a big issue, but I haven't yet found another device with the form factor, integrated cable, and 1A charging. And in most places, it doesn't happen. I just have to keep an eye on it if I'm using it and expecting a call.
