"Who is that?" you ask, "and why should I care?" you add to your original question, causing this uncomfortably complicated sentence. Well I'm semi glad you asked! He's a totally stand up dude who sometimes also likes to sit, who has been devving for like, ever. I heard he started out on the telettrofono (look it up), and is known accross the west coast as the Rom whisperer (true story). He's currently running a sensation and making it live up to its name, but we'd like him to move up to an Amaze and work his magic. So we're chipping in to help. Here's his profie

I won't be giving any money. He never offers ANY type of support. People ask for help with his ROMs but he never replies. There are better Devs if you want to give your money to someone.

.. or you could look at a thread where he has the phone and is actively devving, and see all the loyal followers talking about how many phones he's improved for them, and how few people have problems anyway, and haveplenty of support from the dev and all the very experienced users in the thread.
but in any case the thread is for people to donate, peeps who are not interested can kindly spend time elsewhere
Would love to donate when i get money. A extra dev would be lovely right now, been following the energy ROMs for a long while. Anyone know if eVil still devs on HTC devices? used to see him back in the mytouch days and he was a great one.. havent seen him around since the mytouch 3g slide or 4g (i think)

That's not very nice... I don't support the ROM actively because I don't own an Amaze (obviously) and therefore I can't exactly troubleshoot problems with it. This is the reason bobbie started this thread. I support all my other threads quite a lot. But like he said.. if you don't like it, don't crap on someone else's party. It's just not nice.

That's mostly the case with chefs that only one device. Once the go to the Jesus phone, you never hear from them again. Myself, have been around for years and will continue to be around for more years to come.

Since this thread has apparently been relocated, and the issues I raised with the original approach the OP took have been fixed, I can confirm that any donations going through the chipin link in the original posters post are indeed being directed at me for the purposes of raising funds to acquire an Evo 3D.
If the community sees fit to buy me the phone, I will be happy to develop for it, but I will not promise unrealistic miracles.
I can't promise that you'll suddenly win the lottery, or have better luck in life.

It's nice what your doing but I think the link should come down. We all know how to send him donations. I have sent in many in the past to other developers.
I would like to do the same for Mik but we can't have a post for every dev. Im sure you see why they don't want us to post things like this.

I do not care if they do this i just see no reason to raise $549.00 when you can get the same thing for $400 to $450 elsewhere.
The op just did it wrong i think is why many are upset because no way to track how much and my reason why $549? that is sprints over priced price not what you can get them for.

I just took the retail price off sprint.com cuz net is a verizon customer and not sprint, but if it's found somewhere cheaper great!!!! but Idk if we will raise funds soon enuff to get a CL or Ebay Evo 3D, so that was my reasoning

I admit that I groaned when I saw this thread but I have to say that I applaud the idea. Maybe a better method could be suggested? I have no idea what that is though. I know this has been done in the past but, to be honest, I've never paid much attention to "donation" threads.
I would be happy to donate $$ to get netarchy this phone. Not just to get him to root it, but for all he's given to this community!

wait would he be coming over from Verizon? sprint gives 125 for jumping carriers and the 3VO is only 200 on new plans...they might even buy his old/other phone from him....im not sure if they will from another carrier but they bought my evo 4g back from me for 150. Phone only cost me 50 bucks.
Now that HTC made their announcement a couple of weeks ago, we have an actual ETA on the unlocked bootloader. That said, as we all know, it'll be a month or two before this goes into effect. I know that many people (myself included) jumped to the EVO 3D because of the spectacular dev support that the 4G received, hoping that the 3D would get similar support on even better hardware. I think there were many people disappointed in HTC regarding the bootloader and how long it took them to unlock it (and awesomely impressed with dev temp-root workarounds!), and I certainly wouldn't blame developers for jumping ship to another device due to impatience with HTC. Of course, if devs go, there will the people follow.
My question to the devs is that now that we're reaching the deadline of the 30 day exchange policy and with rumors of the Galaxy 2 II on the horizon, are you going to be sticking with the EVO3D or returning it to develop for another phone?
I ask not to call anyone out, but out of sheer curiosity and self-interest. As awesome as this phone is, I want to go with the phone that is going to get the most development, and I know I'm not alone in that regard.

I don't think any devs have jumped ship, theirs just no reason to develop anything right now. The only thing we have right now is temp root and that has been developed into something far beyond what it started off as.And not to forget the all the skins, unrooted rosie mods, overclocking and everyone behind the scenes working on trying to crack the bootloader with the little there is to work with. For now the 3D is a great example of the saying- when life throws you lemons... And when one of the outstanding Devs here squeezes the juice out of the locked bootloader we will have us one fine lemonade stand.

I wouldn't at all (even though we really aren't have a "Dev" discussion right now), I hardly see how anyone can say "HE" killed dev for our device. I don't think the dev is dead at all, hell, he tried to keep all the BS and stupid questions out of the Dev section. I personally think that the fact there has been a min post count rule implemented across the dev forums speaks volumes to and shows that people do need to read and respect the a) section and b) OP when posting in a thread, well.... lets say posting HTC rants in a thread dedicated to our temp root solution.
"He" may have been a bit slow to reopen the thread (in our section) that he was basically forced to police because of morons that can't read or comprehend just what a dev thread is for, but that hardly constitutes making the "Dev being dead, over and out". Said morons and illiterates actually drove the dev's to IRC, away from the public forum where they started and hoped to collect ideas and garner more support from the masses on the development work.
I would like to hear a dev say "he" killed their work on this device... sounds like crazy talk to me from some impatient users.
I won't be jumping ship (speaking as veteran flash addict and avid Dev supporter), we'll have our perm root one way or another. I am just surprised to see people acting so butt hurt over what is going on, a month out of the gate.
Now that, is some sad shhhht to sigh about...

I hope allot of the 4g devs do make a appearance, I personally think most of them are the best there is. I believe we picked up a bunch of hero guys too, there's a whole lot of exceptional talent in that group too. I think that's pretty much where I'm at, just sitting tight. I found myself in the unfortunate spot of getting a 3D with a touchscreen issue, and I'm between doing a 30 day return or exchange. I think more than likely I'll end up keeping it (the thing is a beast), and it's good to know that there's other people sticking around
I think we should all jump ship and give up, after all that's why we're here, at xda developers. Also, this piece of junk unmatched phone had been out for a crazy long 37 days, what with no root... WTF. And that damn mod... Keeping morons with big mouths out of dev threads, what a douche, we should just let everyone say and do what they want in here. That way we could read more. I hope a mod closes this thread and bans the OP for a month, for fun (because this awesome development is... A question). Member since 08 ... Get some email addresses or follow them on Twitter, or pm them, or find them in webchat, that's how you talk to a dev.

Good point. I did generalize by saying "devs" but I definitely meant both. ROMs are one of the best reasons to root. Looking forward to getting some CM, kushdeck, and MIUI on this bad boy, not to mention the host of awesome Sense developers like Myn, Virus, and Ava. From most responses, it seems like we don't have too much to worry about. As far as CM and MIUI are concerned, if demand is high enough, there'll either be an official release or at the very least a port, since they're community projects.

they have been asked for ETAs, and i wanted to just thank them for their work they have done on the mopho so far and i look forward to what magic tricks they have in the future.
I think they are amazing for the work they do. I would be lost without them, and they are amazing people to take a product, and tweak it to make it an even better product. I truly thank yall everytime i pick up my phone.

I just came over to the Photon from an HTC Hero. I picked up the Hero on the first day it came out and would have jumped ship long ago if it had not been for the dedicated hackers who made this phone so great.
My Hero lasted two years because developers spent their time pulling apart and putting together new ROMs. If the vendors supported their products a tenth as well as their developer base does, just imagine the kind of phones we would have. Support your developers with a donation. They deserve it.

my theory is that it's not an individual or a few but the community. everyone was ranting and raving and showing impatience for his upcoming themes. when the time came to release he was underwhelmed from the thanks/donations afterwards. I could be wrong but that's my guess

id agree with this but there's nothing wrong about people being anxious to get his new theme either.

I agree but it must have been the end results. just hope it's not about appreciation. he already started to purge files and links. that's a possible bad sign to encourage others to look elsewhere. sure hope not because the rez is a great device

as ive said we didn't need to loose any devs. xda is still pretty busy for the rezound. look at rootzwiki, no one posts there.

I think he specifically said in his mods thread that it had nothing to do with lack of thanks/appreciation.
Mike D's themes were legit. Seeing what he was able to do has pushed me into learning how to theme roms
IM sure he will be back one day...
He is just working more hours... If he got more donations for his work I am sure he could cut back on his hours.
But no one ever donates to the guy!

Well donations are optional plus times are tough. I know ive thanked the guy plenty. Hope he comes back one day.
perhaps I'll start doing small things in his place. I'm not good enough to do total themes but I can certainly decompile/recompile,edit png colors and switch font color hex codes in the xmls

Sure, they are optional, but people start getting demanding and the money helps put up with the idiots. I think the enjoyment starts to go away.
I always donate to those whose work I consistently use. But then I also buy apps.
There's a reason why devs want to dev for iphone even though there are more android phones out there. Android users tend to be cheapskates who would rather steal an app than pay for it.
cant blame the community . this one is the same as others. i know someone who was working on bamf rezound in the beginning said hed stop cause of the "community" and he did . we're not THAT bad, but quitting cause of that is kinda lame- though i do understand in away .

And yes the second part of that statement tends to be true. Users forget that Dev's are people with real lives and real responsibilities and that Android Dev'ing, for the most, of us is just a hobby like collecting Stamps or baseball cards. They seem to think that because we make cool things we are some giant company with the resources of many when in fact we are only one person trying to bring some fun to your device. But anyways.. You know that already and I am grateful for your support!
I don't know about the iPhone thing though. I couldn't deal with it if I had to. I love Android. Never really liked Apple. Hahaha

honestly, I would still be on wp7 if verizon had one with lte and a bigger screen. Really enjoyed my hd7. Spent more time using my phone. Tinkering with it is fun, but didn't miss it jumping from winmo to wp7. Used to build my own roms back then, but haven't had the time to really dive into what makes android tick.
Ok I'll fess up. It was silverxbv2 who did it.

It looks like we could loose a good developer to a Samsung phone (plasticly! ick!) in the near future, so I suggest anyone with a real desire to see a clean senseless version of ICS on this beast of a phone consider getting on board with this effort.

I know sandvold he's a good dev, helped me get my start in deving. Working with the one series he might have some knowledge about are ril problems. I've been meaning to talk to him.

I remember earlier this year during a time of rapid development when the internal memory quit on his Desire. After letting everyone know that he tried and failed to revive the device, he checked in once more before going to bed to say he'd figure out what next to do tomorrow. We rallied and in the morning he had more than enough money for a replacement.
It was nice to see everyone come thru with a few bucks each and post in the thread all-of-a-sudden with a rapid succession of donations, willing that development not stop.
But that was the Desire. I'm guessing the user base was larger... but more active? It seems like there's only 3 of us here - passing the ball back and fourth. <shrug>
Anyone else wanna jump in here and prove me wrong with a donation? $10? $5? 2?!! :angel:
I'm hoping that more people will to Sandvold! I want to see development kick off on this device!
It says ending July 15th, but imho, should leave it up longer. Maybe even through the end of the year; hopefully people will get it for Christmas especially since the contract price will have dropped by then.
I understand what you mean, but I'd think he'd be moved on to another device before then.
I'm not aware of who made the two other donations, but I'll get it rolling ala Feb...

Edit: I guess the easiest way to say it, if there are gonna be bounty or donate threads, I'd want to see the potential developer themselves say things to convince me of their awesomeness and desire to contribute.
Development does not make the device, I hope you guys know that.. outside of efforts to get things like CM9 and other true custom firmware, I'm not sure what people want. I don't think we need more developers unless they can contribute to those efforts.. or is that what this dev you want would bring to the table, and somehow I missed it?
I for one know that a GOOD developer can make plenty of contributions as long as they have a supply of willing testers, and if they could help make headway on any of the projects already going on - THEN I might be willing to throw a few dollars their way.. but I(and I think others) think that funds are too tight to share without more certain contributions..
We can't bribe a developer to come made solid contributions if they have no excitement for the device itself - unless they really WANT to contribute, if they have other projects going on, ours is always going to be a lower priority.
I hear what you're saying, and I agree. Personally I saw what was done with the Desire, and I think that my few dollars are well spent here. I'm hoping for more than Sense to pick from, and I think others feel that way too.
