hi, can you teach me how to start a fresh flash on this unit? I bought an EVO 3D in hongkong and it has a goapk chinese custom rom and i wanna update the rom and the hboot to the latest if not the best one out there. i used to flash rom on htc hd2 android but i already forgot the sequence coz i think this one's different. can you give me a checklist how to fresh install the custom rom i downloaded? i have Stock Rooted Roms with SuperUser 2.08.651.2 Update (2.3.4) coz i don't like the modded versions, i just need the tweaks and roots, etc.
as of now, my idea is to install a stock rom to update the hboot version, then install a custom recovery, so i can install the custom rom. can you also guide me on what's the best/latest recovery out there?
thanks!

yeah, i know where to find them but i don't know where to start. i think i can install a custom rom right away coz i saw my hboot 1.49 has the revolutionary cwm but i'm not sure if there's a better cwm out there. i also wanna be informed if there's a perfect stock rom out there if there's any coz like back when i still have my hd2, there's a camera issue on sense 3.0 port or sense bug in gingerbread roms, etc.. i don't wanna waste my time reading all the threads here just to learn all that if someone out there already know the answer in just 1sentence. i hope you got my point. that's why i posted in this q&a section.

Doing the research is part of what you need to do. Now I would be really careful due to the fact of where your device is from. Spend a few hours and do the research. There is no one sentence answer. Each device is different a.d can react differently

at least you made a point. my device is gold instead of red. i got it in hongkong but the box is not in english nor chinese (france i think, i'll check on it). it's already unlocked and has custom rom on it that's why i just wanna know directly from the experienced if installing a stock rom/ruu will update the hboot version so i can install the latest cwr, or will it lock my device and/or bootloader. in htc hd2, there are different versions of rom like cwr with recovery 150, 400, etc.. i'm not sure if it's still the same in evo 3d.
What I did......
My device initial status is was unlocked, rooted, customized rom and recovery, S-On and Hboot 1.49.018.
What i did was i downgraded my Hboot version so I can use Revolutionary tool to S-OFF my device(it didn't root my device upon checking with root checker app. Revolutionary tool only has beta keys for 1.49.007 & 1.49.008 so i downgraded to .007.
To downgrade, change the CID to HTC__001. I checked mine using a CID getter app and it was was HTC_027 (France, I think).
To change the cid, use fastboot command (you can download it along with adb.exe). If your device is still locked, "I think" you need to unlock it first using htcdev's tool.
After changing CID, I flashed the official rom PG86IMG.zip with 1.49.007 hboot by putting the zip file on the root of your SD then boot in bootloader by holding vol down while powering the evo 3d on. It will not work if fastboot settings is checked on htc settings.
After flashing, it booted normally(it asked me to setup my device). I downloaded a file explorer to rename the PG86IMG.zip so when I boot into bootloader, it will not extract the official rom again and ask me if I wanna flash(again) the rom, of course i will say no. I booted into bootloader to check the hboot version which is now on 1.49.007. I think the boot loader will be "relocked" too(sorry, i forgot).
I can then request the beta keys so I can use it in Revolutionary tool to S-OFF the device (I have to check if it roots the device too).
The tool asked me if I want to install the Revolutionary Recovery which I pressed yes so I can install custom firmwares(Internet connection required). After the process, the unlocked status from bootloader now says revolutionary.
I powered my device and update Over-the-air but it got stuck to triangle-!-android robot. Maybe because I have the custom recovery (revolutionary). So i flashed the PG86IMG.zip again through bootloader, it removed the custom recovery i installed from revolutionary tool but it will stay S-OFF. I've yet to check the lock/unlock status of the bootloader since i can't restart my evo 3d coz I'm downloading a 2Gb file but I think it's relocked.
After flashing for the second time and booting it again, set it up, I tried updating again through software updated and it updates the device successfully. It adds 3 nice free 3D Games.
I checked my bootloader status and my device went back to hboot 1.49.018 but still S-off.
Summary:
You can always install the official PG86IMG.zip with hboot 1.49.007 to downgrade the hboot version since the CID is still HTC_001 so you can use the Revolutionary tool to install the Custom Recovery to flash any GSM roms you like.
If you have an easiest route to acheive this, please let me know coz I'm not sure if I learn the most recent process or if it's old.

Apologies in advance but a bit of a newbie question......
I am the recent new owner of an HTC One X+ on the UK Vodafone network and am keen to get Andorid Revolution HD 6.2 running on it rather than the stock setup.
My system as it stands is as follows:-
Android version: 4.1.1
HTC Sense version: 4+
Software number: 1.14.161.18
Kernel version: 3.1.10-g262c6aa
HBOOT: 1.30.0000
CID (Via CID Getter): VODAP001
I have unlocked the bootloader (S-ON) via htcdev.com and gained SuperSU status and flashed TWRP International thanks to hasoon2000's excellent All-In-One Toolkit v2.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994961) and am now a little worried about taking the next step I guess!
I have the ARHD 6.2 rar file downloaded, the flash_boot_6.x_0.1.rar to flash boot.img and I have also downloaded the firmware (1.17.401.1.zip) as per the requirements according to mike1986. from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995685).
My plan is to use hasoon2000's Toolkit to flash the boot.img, run the wipe command via TWRP (do I also need to upgrade the firmware using the 1.17.401.1.zip via TWRP - and how do I go about that with no writeable SD card) and then ADB sideload the Android Revolution HD 6.2 ROM but I am hanging fire on this process until I can get a little reassurance that this is the correct approach and will work, I think it's the virtual SD card and the fact I cannot actually have the files sat on an SD card that is making me a little apprehensive.
I hope I'm on the right lines because I was very happy with my Desire HD with Android Revolution HD on it prior to my upgrade and am looking forward to getting back to using the most popular ROM on my new phone!
Any help would be muchly appreciated......and please tell me if any of the above is likely to cause me problems!!
you can not use the firmware zip from mike1986.
you have a Vodafone branded Phone. there are no Updates for hboot.

Thanks skdubg,
yeah i had looked at that and that was my main concern.
so since mike's rom requires hboot 1.35 i have to wait for vodafone to release a software update from hboot 1.30 to 1.35?
were this to happen would i then be in a position to flash a custom rom (provided the CID appeared on the list of course) or is the fact it's a branded phone a complete sticking point?

As long as you have the latest hboot you can flash any custom rom. It's not your CID preventing it. Problem is vodaphone does not usually release RUU's and if you flash a custom rom and end up with glitches/errors because you have an older hboot. There is no way to return to stock (except a nandroid).

Thanks for the explanation AndroHero, I was under the impression if things didn't match up entirely then there was a risk of bricking.
So my best plan of action would be:-
1. Create a full nandroid of my system as it stands from TWRP
2. Flash the boot.img relating to the custom rom
3. Sideload and flash the custom rom through the All-In-One Toolkit
4. See how I get on!
Either that or stick with stock I guess...
Yeah you shouldnt run into too many issues doing it that way. There is a million in one chance of bricking your phone flashing a rom with any hboot. Infact while S-On doing anything wont "brick" your phone. As long as you have a backup to return too. You'll be fine
You dont need to "sideload" the rom, just boot into android on your voda rom, connect to pc, and copy the rom .zip to the root of the device that appears.

Cool, well that makes me feel a bit more confident about going further, thanks.
I would usually take that route but with the "virtual sd" i seem to be having issues writing directly to the device through windows explorer despite the device appearing it tells me the "Device has either stopped responding or been disconnected" every time I attempt to copy straight to the internal storage - that's the only reason why I'm thinking I need to "sideload" the rom.zip
Hey, i have my rooted HTC Evo 3D

I've also been stuck on leedroids GB rom for a long time..its overclocked processor to 1.5ghz dual core actually drains the battery too much . I wanted to try the Carbon JB custom rom but the site has been pulled down already..Any recommendation guys i would much appreciate, especially if it has sense UI. even an ICS recomendatio with working 3D camera will do for now. My GB rom is way past its date
Overclocking the already quite sufficient 1.2ghz dual core was a mistake by LeeDroid.

For running JB you need hboot version 1.49.xxxx.
Coming from hboot 1.53.0007 (GSM Device) you have to
1st Unlock (HTC Dev way)
2ns S-Off (Wire Trick)
3rd Downgrade hboot.
For the Unlock thing, if you're not already unlocked, look here.
When it comes to S-Off, look here. Read the instructions carefully.
A pretty good explanation about how to downgrade to hboot 1.49.xxxx is here.
Flashing in the Liquid smooth 2.9 JB 4.2.2 rom..

Thanks for the quick response, Senior member, youve helped a lot of members here, hopefully you'll also help me too..my device is as such
S-ON,
UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER,
ITS A SHOOTER_U (GSM) ,
WITH HBOOT-1.49.0012.
I would very much like to switch the rom from my 2.3 GB Android, to the 4.2.2 liquid smooth 2.9 CM. although it doesnt have sense Ive also read on numerous threads that i do not have to be S-OFF as i can use the 4EXT recovery to perform smart flashing safely. Any thoughts on this??
I plan to do this,
1/ download liquid smooth
2/ fastboot boot "file.img"
3/ clear dalvik, cache, wipe factory reset,
4/ Flash rom via 4EXT.
5/Reboot.
its how ive always done the Rom flashing. Any problem with my method? do i have to like flash radio/new kernel/ etc??
Latest radio is recommended for most custom roms.
So check if you have the latest radio, otherwise you can get it from here (link from @johnnyslt thread).
To flash new radio you have to be s-off.
A good explanation is here.
Though I did it the other way on my 2 EVO since both had hboot 1.53.0007.
you will most definitely have to flash this new firmware if you want to run ics/jb/kk roms. you might not need to s-off cause you have an older hboot but i highly recommend you get s-off.
As for your method, make the following changes
1. If you do not have 4EXT, get it first
2. Turn on smartflash in 4EXT recovery options
3. Make a nandroid backup from recovery (in case something goes wrong)
4. wipe data/factory reset. wipe cache and dalvik-cache
5. Install rom via recovery and reboot (boot image should be flashed automatically due to smartflash. phone will reboot twice)
If this does not get the rom to boot then you WILL need to s-off. restore your nandroid to get phone back in working condition.
P.S. the command to flash boot.img is "fastboot flash boot boot.img"

Eminem, thank you for your feedback on my issue. Okay I have tried everything but the phone just wont get past the boot animation. I have NonSense ICS Rom, flashed boot image via fastboot (thanks for your correction on the command) , flashed Rom, done a superwipe, but all the PG86IMG.ZIP files just wont flash in bootloader. Its starts parsing the zip then just exits just as soon as it starts. I'm guessing this file contains the new radio that will updgrade mine from the GB one to be accept ICS/JB/KITKAT.
I have to the conclusion that the only hindering factor that is keeping my evo 3d from fully booting after flashing a new rom despite dong everything correctly must be the fact that i havent yet achieved S-OFF and hence cannot flash new bootloader, And the only way to do that is via juopunutbear method as the Revotionary tool only works with hboot 1.49.0007-1.49.0008 MIne being hboot 1.49.0012. Thus i ask, must i now download the Ubuntu o.s Ver 12.0 (or Later),just so i can S-Off coz the juopunut website forbids use of any other distros for the proccess.
By The way i have visited your thread and i must say i like it better. i can even spot a KITKAT rom in there. And once i dpo manage to achieve S-OFF i will definitely try it.

My cid is HTC__622
I have thrown in the towel and resorted to return to my Nandroid backup of LeeDroid Ver 5.4 GB. You cannot the believe the process to achieve S-OFF when not in stock rom as mine is a custom rom. It requires me to Return to stock rom, unroot the device, and also relock bootloader. Just so i can do all that again with the stock rom , then finally S-OFF using the Wire-Trick. Scoured the internet for days and not even one thread to S-OFF a HTC EVO 3D while on a GB custom Rom (Like my LeeDroid Rom) , with hboot 1.49.0012, all threads insists that i must chuck the Custom rom, get back on my stock rom and do the whole process again. Tiresome.
Looks like your phone is an asian-HK-CHT model
this RUU should work for you if you want to go to stock ICS. after that you'll need Ubuntu LiveCD to do the wiretrick.
I'm sorry but this is the only way for you to achieve s-off right now

This is the most helpfull post i have received so far. This is ICS (the RUU) an upgrade from my GB rom. So yes i will take it. I have never installed an RUU before, so is it basically just like an OTA upgrade update from GB?? I just download it like any other Rom and install/flash in Recovery and am done? jumping straight to ICS?? Already Downloading. Just tell me what to do with it in steps, remembering that my device is rooted , custom rom, hboot 1.49.0012
Question...
I understand installing an RUU will relock my bootlader and also unroot my device , right??
Essentially, what does an RUU update just the Android version, or even the radio? hboot? kernel?
ok waiiitt a sec
you have to run this exe file from your pc after connecting your phone in bootloader. but first you have to relock bootloader yourself. i'll link you a guide to help you with RUU
---------- Post added at 04:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:29 PM ----------
heres a guide that you can use for reference but it might be a little confusing cause its for cdma users. i'll just detail the steps myself. Yes this WILL upgrade your rom, hboot, recovery, kernel and radio. you will loose root but its simple enough to get back root.
1. boot into bootloader, connect phone to pc and run this command in cmd "fastboot oem lock"
2. Run the RUU exe file on your pc and follow all the steps. its a GUI so its pretty self explanatory. this should take around 15-20 mins max. DO NOT disconnect device when RUU is running
3. Phone should reboot into your brand new ICS rom. now you can proceed to unlock bootloader, flash recovery and root
If you get errors while running RUU it might mean that the RUU is incorrect. or you can see this post for any of the errors
All RUU's are located here
the right RUU for you depends on your area and whether its branded or unbranded

Hey Eminem, I just finished downloading the RUU you linked. my problem is that the RUU troubleshooting link you gave me ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33901562&postcount=117 ) says you must first the CID (fastboot getvar cid) as well as the main version of the software installed (fastboot getvar mainver)
In that regard my CID being HTC_622 AND Mainver being 1.22.708.6 am still not sure the right RUU to flash coz none on the RUU list have the same software mainversion. Nways, im going to try the This Asia RUU ( RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_3.28.707.1_Radio_11.77.3504.00U_11.25.3504.06_M_release_264110_signed ) and will revert with results. Thanks for Everything. Hope It works..Fingers Crossed.
Done trying the RUU ..its didnt work. Error 131 Customer ID Error. is any accurate way of knowing the precise RUU file to flash, with all the info i have aabout my Evo 3D?? The OS has just dissapeared , wont boot up, must've deleted the previous rom, even 4EXT recovery is now gone, i guess with root as well, and now have a RELOCKED bootloader.. #SIGH
there isnt a definite method to determine which RUU will work for you.which country did you purchase the phone from? and its not branded is it? you can try the Europe RUU but i doubt it would work. if it does not then download the gingerbread RUU then update to ICS via OTA
hi, i bought evo 3d in pakistan it was working fine after OTA update i just tried to root it and then tried a custom RUU but it failed and eventually it sucked my original RUU the phone just started restarting from boot screen after that i just visited local market and just gave to some local vendor for software repair he just installed some RUU which in turn sucked the camera and wifi now when i tap at camera app it shw nothing but a certain increase in brightness and then back to normal similarly when i check my wifi it shows 'error' and shows no effect on tapping it i confirmed HTC about the rom they have told me that the local vendor has installed the rom of any other country so how can i get the original rom i.e shipped for Singapore or in other case can my camera and wifi be repaired ??? your kind help will be highly appreciated pl...

Do you have a recovery installed? With your hboot and s-off you should be able to flash any rom.
get this recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560279
then flash any rom you want.

i do have recovery installed so firstly it is locked means i would unlock it through htcdev.com method and most importantly i dont wanna install custom rom i wanna install official rom so if u do have a link or in other case my gingerbread rom is working efficiently just camera and wifi are giving errors if u have their drivers it would be a great help.

you're s-off. dont think you need to unlock bootloader. if you're looking for something close to stock I'd recommend you look into this rom. I know its not stock but its much better. you wont lose 3d capabilities as its sense 3.6.
If you insist on stock then you might wanna run an RUU and get back to stock. Get the "RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.28.401.1_Radio_11.77.3504.00U_11.25.3504.06_M_release_262714_signed.exe" ruu. Most of the phones in pak come from Europe
Made in china, lol
You and I have the same phone - same software running when originally bought: i bought mine directly from china and the phone was only meant for people living in asia, if you did unlock through htcdev, did you have any problem unlocking, mine doesnt want to go past the disclaimer screen, I select yes , press power button and nothing happens even after a 30 min??? any1 please help btw, slecting no, it responds within 2 seconds

See i had given the phone to developer when he returned me, the recovery is not opening any way so i ll try to install recovery my way and more importantly how can I install custom rom through my computer i only know the way of installing the rom through recovery i.e. by copying into memory card...
see this link:-

Install only recovery never unlock boot loader....

If the above link seems a bit difficult to understand I've detailed what you need to do
Its really easy to do it on your own. Just need a few things to set up on your pc/laptop
Install these drivers first: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/97347619/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
Then dl this and extract it in a folder in C:\ drive : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/97347619/mini-adb.zip
Name that folder "android". Now download this recovery(4EXT recovery):http://dl.dropbox.com/u/97347619/recovery.img
Place this recovery.img in android folder
Now open cmd and type "cd C:\android"
Now boot into bootloader and connect your phone to pc and select fastboot on your phone. It should say FASTBOOT USB in red on your phone. This is very important because it shows whether your phone is properly connected or not.
type "fastboot devices" and see if your phone is listed
IF your phone is detected then type this command: "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
then to boot into recovery type "fastboot boot recovery.img"
recorvy is not being installed whenever i try it shows remote failed... snapshot attached
oh crap. frogot this completely. This isnt a problem with custom hboots like revolutionary hboot(which is what i use). What you need to do is unlock bootloader from htcdev before you can flash recovery. after that it doesnt matter whether you are unlocked or locked if you want to flash rom.
just follow the instructions at htcdev and you'll get your unlock token

i am afraid that unlocking through htc dev may make my phone to 'S-ON' as i last time tried it unlocked the loader and made it to s-on and tried some custom roms but all roms were giving the same error that the bootimage can not be created so then a local developer somehow managed to write the rom through J-TACK but the camera & wifi are still not working so i dont wanna go this way again... so any better idea???

Friend, I again suggest never try HTC dev .. For custom boot loader you can go there:-
http://unlimited.io/jbhboots.htm
1. Download both hboot of your phone like hboot 1.49.9999 for gb and 1.53.5353 for ics..
2. I think your are on ICS (check you are on android 4.0.3) then choose 1.53.5353 and rename it to " PG86IMG.zip" ..
3. Copy this file into root folder of SD card..
4. Switch off the phone.
5. Go to boot loader with pressing power and vol. - button at same time .
6. Once you go to the boot loader , boot loader scan "" PG86IMG.zip"" and after scaning bootloader ask for update ..
7.. After update.. You can check you bootloader version is 1.53.5353 with no "locked" and "unlocked" statement instead he say jopunetbear..
8. Try again flash recovery with adb and fast boot(you known the procedure already)..
I try this method to get root again after flashing ruu(as PG86IMG.zip),
Hope this will working for you also....

No htcdev cannot turn s-off to.s-on. You said you tried it last time and it made it s-on. But I guess you tried the write secureflag command also.
If you don't want to unlock, then don't unlock it, just flash another hboot.

I tried your 'RUU' link and tried the .exe file but it gave error that it cannot be updated... I'll try the zip file 2day.
I have tried different roms like firstly sad ics then yoda ics nd now running cool ics for gsm but infacr camera is not working at Ll i have updated all tue kernals and firmware and the rom but camera still not working wats its sol??? How can i make it work???
if you have camera problems with every rom then its probably a hardware issue
First and foremost I want to say what I don't see a lot of from newbs around here: "Thank You". I have lurked this website for months, trying to learn the right way to do all sorts of things and I think you are all awesome for taking time out of your lives to do all of this for us.
I really hope that my questions aren't stupid and I can learn a little something from this in the process
I have read, and researched and read and researched and I think in all of my reading I have just gotten myself REALLY confused.
Here is my device:
Evo 3D (shooter) CDMA
Hboot 1.58
unlocked
S-ON
It took a lot of doing but I successfully rooted and lived in stock happy as a clam for a few days.
I first tried to install PAC rom [Halo + Android 4.2.2] and got numerous install errors (which I now believe is from installing in 4ext instead of fastboot)
so I tried CM 10.1 ...
I was stuck in a bootloop with CM 10.1 (which I now have learned may be secondary to the Hboot being the wrong version)
I decided I was in over my head and went to look for my ROM manager recovery (which was apparently lost on my internal mem), but I can't find my CWM recovery either [I preformed them both using the ROM manager app, right after root NOT in fastboot]
I attempted to boot another ROM which I thought was compatible with Hboot 1.58 (Team dirt unoffical slimbean v1.1) made sure I got my gapps right...and Im still stuck in bootloop (now just of slimbean instead of CM)
So I said screw it and tried to install the RUU after relocking and start over. But I keep getting an error message that my hboot version is wrong.
Finally, what I am looking for help with is the following:
1. Help to fix bootloop as I would like to really try the PACMAN Rom
2. Help to determine what the RUU error is so that I can return to stock rooted if I don't like PACMAN
3. Where the F*** are my recoveries????
4. Just a little bit of sympathy: I acknowledge that I am a newb but I have read, read and read some more and quite frankly am terrified of getting screamed at for missing something simple. Please believe this was my last option because I now that right now I am merely soft bricked and don't want to turn a nice phone into a paperweight (Which is why I haven't tried the URT tool yet, to downgrade Hboot, Im nervous that Ill really mess up)
I am sorry to be so wordy... but you all say be detailed and as a Paramedic I'm just trying to give you the best "past medical history" possible.
Thank you guys again for all you do to help us not so tech savy...
please let me know what (if any) more info is needed or requested.
Be safe,
Doc
I can only answer 1 question and that is to why you can't get any cm10+ roms to work and that is because your running hboot 1.58. Jellybean roms do not work on hboot 1.57 or 1.58. You must downgrade your hboot before you can run anything jellybean. But first you have to use the juopunutbear exploit to s-off your device and flash a new hboot. Here's the link to the thread I used. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24530433
Sent from my Evo V 4G using Tapatalk 4 Beta
the RUU error is probably because you are trying to run a gingerbread RUU. with your hboot, only ICS RUUs will work for now. If you have taken the March OTA (2.95.651.5) then there is no RUU that will work for you until you downgrade mainver.
This guide has all the instructions if you want to s-off and downgrade (there are some additional instructions for people who have taken the march ota)
if you choose to do the juopunutbear exploit you'll need ubuntu linux (or an ubuntu livecd)
As others have said you need a lower hboot for anything other than ics.
To do that you need s off.
To get s off you need a booting Rom.
You need to do the following
Install 4ext recovery (highly recommended)
Enable smart flash in 4ext, this is because you're still s on
Now flash a stock based Rom, butterz, negalite blu, or stock
Now you need to follow instructions to obtain s off.
Good luck

Re-Lock device using htcdevway . flash a stock gb or ics.
I cant seem to find your Thanks button. Because I would click it a thousand times! That link was exactly what I needed and I'm running rooted, stock ICS and playing to my hearts content . Thank you so much :good:

So while in process of s-off once I got to the part when you "fastboot oem rebootRUU" that went through. But right after trying to flash a zip im stuck looking at the blk HTC screen. I was given a "<Failed <remote: 99 unknown fail>". Now its just stuck.
I've been trying to figure out what happened but just have no where else to turn. Please lend a hand.
I think I already know the answer to this question, but what version is your firmware? Just for your knowledge, there hasn't been an RUU since ICS, or maybe the first release of JB. So, odds are, you flashed the wrong RUU.
But good news, you *might* not be bricked. Have you tried rebooting? This really your only option, anyway. Try to get into the bootloader. Flash a new recovery if the RUU has already wiped it, and flash a compatible rom.
Please also list your bootloader info.

It's not a full RUU in the normal sense. It's the one for Facepalm.
To the OP, did you gain SuperCID prior to running those commands? If not, then the process will fail. You should simply be able to hold the power button down & reboot your phone. Also, as stated above, list your device info so we can make sure you're using the right S-off exploit.

So I did get the phone into the bootloader. I was trying to do the rumrunner s-off but being I was so damn tired lastnight I ended up forgetting a step. I am currently unlocked and rooted. I also somehow deleted my backup like a idiot and wiped the os. So I'm stuck from this point where I need to go.
So where we stand as of now:
bootloader unlocked
rooted
twrp 2.6.3.0
firmware 3.17.651.4
hboot 2.09
radio 1.13.11.0830

Happens to all of us. Don't worry about wiping the OS. Look for Captain Throwback's stock rooted rom, and flash a custom kernel along with it, like the Dirty MAC kernel or Arc reactor. Doesn't matter which one...rumrunner just needs a custom kernel.

After you flash these, then reboot into Android, set your phone to stay awake during charge Settings-->Display and Buttons, and also set SuperSU to automatically grant root access (open the app, swipe right twice, and scroll down a little). This way, you don't have to touch your phone. If you touch it, the process will fail....even to unlock the phone to grant root access. And of course, turn on USB debugging in Developer Options.
After you do all of these, then run the exploit.

This is odd to me, because I ran rumrunner at least 3 times using just my stock ROM (no custom kernel or anything), and it worked fine every time. I guess the new version of rumrunner added some limitations to make it more generic.
whats bothering me is that even after i check the MD5, it keeps failing to install capt zip. think maybe i can just use adb to push the zip file? just not sure how to word the command right to get it to load

No, don't. If it fails, don't force it. Reflash TWRP 2.6.3 (not the kit kat version), and try to flash again.
@Captain_Throwback: Yes, I didn't remember needing a custom kernel when I used Dirty Racun, but rumrunner needs it now. Keep in mind that rumrunner isn't for this device exclusively. Maybe that's the purpose of the custom kernel.
i'd wager you're trying to flash files that aren't recovery flashable, then lying to the people who are trying to help you.
i got it running again using capt stock rooted rom. attempting rumrunners s-off again now that i got this part working.
Are you using a custom kernel?

Thank you all that helped me with my stupidness and not reading directions.
Last post. I can't say it enough that you must read read read when it comes to directions. If I would of followed directions as directed I would of never ran into the issues I did. It was a learning experience.
One thing for sure that I took from this experience is adb and directions. I've learned a lot in the last 24hrs alone.
I'd like to thank Capain_throwback and everyone in the irc for the help and you all here that assisted me.
