I'm thinking of buying a HTC Titan (Windows Phone), does anyone know if Wifi tethering to a Transformer Prime (ICS) works or has experience of it? Or to any other Windows Phone 7 device?
It seems that the issue people are having w/ WiFi tethering not working for ICS is w/ root-induced tethers.
My droid is w/ T-Mobile who lets you tether your life away for free and WiFi tethering is working perfectly fine after ICS.
Considering you're getting a W7, there is no root, so you should be fine.

I've been reading in the gadget press for the past week about how carriers in the states are blocking tethering apps through the marketplace.
I'm looking to upgrade my phone this week to an S2 and was just wondering what the options are with tethering? Never had an Android phone before so not sure if it's likely to be a built in feature as well as an alternative download through the market. My old HD2 had it as a feature of the software on Win 6.5.
Anyone in the uk tethering their phones yet?
It's built right into Android. Been using the wireless hotspot feature all week so I can sit out in the sun and do some work
Excellent that's good to know. Thank you.
A recent version of Android introduced WiFi sharing, so you can turn your phone into a WiFI hot-spot and it'll route to your 3G connection.
Works like a treat, and seems far snappier than my old WinMo 6 with Bluetooth and Internet Sharing.
Anyone tried this on AT&T?
wi-fi hot spot works a treat and no need to root.
Hey guys, i was helping some friends root their phones (galaxy s II and Evo 3D) and we couldn't get the wireless tethering app to work. I then checked my phone just for kicks and giggles, (Evo 4g which has been rooted and my tethering was previously working) and now it wont tether as well, most the time my computer will see the network but when it connects says it doesn't have internet access. The reason im posting this here is because it seems to be happening to multiple devices now, are providers blocking tethering now? whats the deal anyone having similar issues?
Same here bro, but on my evo and my girls optimus, and we both had tethering working and were using regularly. The only thing I can think of that changed was we upgraded to the newest radios last time we switched roms. Not at all an expert, you think that might have something to do with the problem?

Im not sure, i think it may have something to do with networks getting smarter... ie, sprint verizon att etc. are they maybe blocking it you think? Ive noticed it on all three of those carriers.
Companies like lg are always trying to break/kill root with every update, so I think if they could they probably would. Tethers a powerful tool that everybody wants, and most have now for free. That's alot of lost revenue.

What carriers are you two using? I just tested my tethering on AT&T and it's working fine running unnamed on my SGSII
not working on a recently rooted galaxy s II for att..
not working on a recently rooted htc evo 3d for sprint...
was working for the lognest time just check my htc evo 4g and not working on that now for some reason.
ive tried barnacle and wireless tethering...
Question, are the ones having the issue on rooted stock rom? I know the thunderbolt rooted running stock rom has the tethering stop working. I'm on cm 7 so the carrier apk that checks for that is not in cm7. I still tether my Xoom daily.
If you are just using one of the programs from the market it may be a build issue, On one of my Evos I had an issue that made it so that only one of the programs worked and it only worked in pre-build 010 other then that it never worked until I flashed MikFroyo.
Just for kicks I checked to see if tethering is still working from the unlocked sprint hotspot and it is fine on my hardware 004 evo 4G
Wireless tethering is a b---- to get working on an EVO 3D (CDMA). Barnacle and Wireless Tether worked when I was using my Temp Root, but not with 4G turned on.
I fully rooted, and then I couldn't find the wireless tethering apps in the market any more! I hadn't backed them up with Titanium! However, I found the APKs elsewhere, installed them and still had problems (either they wouldn't work or I couldn't get 4G to work). Long story short, I upgraded Wireless Tether to 2.0.2 and the screen resolution is wrong, but I can do 3G and 4G wireless tethering!
However, the first time I tested my 4G tethering speed, I got only 2Mbps. I tried it again and got 1Mbps. Tested once more and got less than 1Mbps. So it's not perfect.

I'm thinking of getting a Titan, but need to know Wi-Fi tethering to Asus Transformer Prime works.
Has anyone tried this or to any other Android 4 tablet?

On unbranded Titan, wifi tethering works with EVERYTHING. Not tried this particular Asus, but unless it's something exceptional sort of device, it will work if your phone is unbranded.
I have tethered a Motorola Xoom (Honeycomb) to a Titan.
Not quite what you asked but I agree with the other poster that you have a near-guaranteed chance of success.
Thanks for your replies.
I've asked a similar question over on the Transformer Prime forum.
The reason I ask is that it seems with the Android 4 update to the Transformer it won't tether to an ad-hoc Wi-Fi network (although there seems to be lots of conflicting opinions as to why people are having problems).
So should my question be does the hotspot appear as an adhoc network?
Since asking I've put another custom O/S build on my Touch HD that will successfully tether over Bluetooth so the urgency for a new phone has dropped a bit. Which I guess leads to another question about whether the Titan supports BT tethering?
Mango hotspot does not appear as an ad-hoc network. It's an AP with WPA2 security.

I have just received my transformer prime and I am having trouble tethering my GSM galaxy nexus. The firmware has been upgraded to the latest build of ICS for both devices. I get a notification telling me that the connection via bluetooth tethering has been successful but I am unable to use it. I have also tried pdanet tablet with no luck. Is it possible to tether the phone with the tablet via bluetooth at all? Should I just bite the bullet and use wifi instead?
i know your talking about bluetooth, but if you mean ad-hoc... its been removed from ICS ... sorry
What do you mean by ad-hoc tethering? I have seen this term around the forums but not sure what it refers to.
I am able to do do wifi tethering just fine on my prime. The reason I would like to try it over bluetooth is to save battery on my phone.
You're in for some trouble. I have a Gnex and a Android Tablet. There's an issue with the Gnex dating back to last year where the BT connection will drop after a few minutes. Its a gigantic pain in the ass and to date I haven't found a fix.

I was just wondering I know FoxFi didn't allow wifi to work with the EVO3D, but I was wondering if that has changed since the phone has gotten ICS. I'm not rooted and I have it working great with bluetooth w/ my Tablet, but was thinking it would be nice to have it go wifi so I could use it with my 3DS.
