After rooting, I installed Rom Manager just to be able to keep track of my back up's. I don't use it for anything else. The first time I booted into CWR (after installing that app), recovery wouldn't let me select anything. Rom manager did ask me at some point to install something which is probably the problem. My question is, should I odin the original recovery again? Not sure because while in the recovery it did say I have version 4.0.0.4 which I believe is the most current...
Ok, after unistalling the app, I went back into recovery again and now I am able to select options. It is letting my do a back up. There is still a "Rom manager hat", like on the app, showing up, is this a problem? I'm not sure if it fully unistalled due to this icon showing up still. I just don't remember seeing that before.

ClockWorkMod recovery and ROM manger are developed by the same developer. That hat you are seeing is the logo of his company.
the latest version of recovery is 5.0.2.7 - it can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090289

I have a fascinate now, I had an eris then an incredible. Anyway, I rooted my eris and my incredible and flashed many roms with much luck. This phone is a little difficult. I can root easily but installing is difficult. I can't install anything from the sd card. I have tried it two different ways in Rom manager (direct install and booting into recovery) If i hold the vol keys and power, unless i apply the update, it wont go to clockwork. It is actually on the stock recovery. Anyway, I just can't figure out how to install anything on this phone from the sd card. I get to the install screen, it finds and opens the packages, but the freezes on the install. I'm terribly annoyed as it is with this phone. I used google all the time, now I'm using a quick search app. ADW launcher the drawer disappears randomly, and I just don't like launcher. So anyway, I can't install anything from sd, so therefore I can't get google search working or setcpu, and cant flash a diff ROM. I must be doing something wrong. Please help!!!

ClockWorks on the Fascinate does not overwrite the stock recovery.
In order to get into CWM, you must run update.zip *every* time you want to get into CWM. This is not likely to change any time soon.
Once in CWM, the back key is the "select" key and the volume up/down are the up/down keys.
First thing is first: i you have rooted, boot into stock recovery, apply update.zip to get into CWM recovery and backup your device.
Then play.
yeah i get that.. after the backup and even wipe data and cache it gets stuck at the install part. I have titanium and always nand but when I install the zip from the sd card it finds the package and opens the package, but then always freezes on the installing the package part. That's where I'm having issues

Having come from the Eris myself, I know your pain. I will suggest, if you attempt to install anything, and I mean **anything** related to voodoo, not only should you back up/nandroid first, but you should probably go ahead and familiarize yourself with Odin and recovery steps. Also, you cannot be patient enough, sometimes takes up to 10 min + for installs/disables. I am in my 2nd 2-day recovery process from removing Voodoo, and I frankly suggest avoiding it altogether.
In Rom Manager (clockwork), did you click on FLash ClockworkMod Recovery and select the Fascinate? If so, and still hanging, I would recommend uninstalling/reinstalling clockwork as a next step. Best of luck!
I have read through so many different tutorials and they are all very similar, but my phone stops the time after it starts to open the new rom.zip file. I have the newest clockwork mod installed but I still get the same problem. I have tried atleast ten different roms and always get the same problem. I have made two backups of my phone that were made before I tried to flash different roms, those go just fine but I always have the freezing problem when it tries open the .zip file for the the rom. Any help will be greatly appreciated and thank you.

So you have ROM manager installed from the market you say correct? And you are rooted as well right?
Once you open ROM mamager, I hope you're not trying to install from where it says "Install new ROM" (or something like that), cause that's not where you do it.
You have to click where it says "Flash clock work recovery" first, select your phone, then reboot into recovery, Install packages (most likely twice), then you'll be in CWR with green menu. Scroll to "Install from .zip">Choose zip> and finally "Yes" to flash your ROM.
Now, I'm just assuming this is what happened....next time try and to give more detail on what steps you took.
Thanks for your help, this what I did. Rebooted into recovery, then choose zip from sd card, choose the .zip file, it loads into the install screen, says finding packages, opening packages, installing packages. Then that's it. The status bar st the bottom does not move, avd I get nowhere until I just have to pull out the battery and reboot. I have my device rootes with the z4 app, I did that oclf install thing on that app. This phone is on stock everything I believe. What an I doing wrong?

I'm not sure with z4 root..never used it - I've always stuck with 2e...
What ROM are you trying to install? Is that ROM known to work fine with other devices? Sounds like it's not finding certain files/packages to start the installation process. I've had the same issue happen to me in the past as well.
My suggestions:
Try uninstalling ROM manager, re-downloaded it, re-install it, and re-flash CWR again.
Or, re-download the ROM you're trying to install, and see if maybe it was a bad zip.
or go to the bottom of Rom Manager and select a version lower than the newest one and reboot into recovery. I had to do that with version 2.5.1.2. I had to step down to v 2.5.1.1 to go into recovery.
I know I am on the jdf firmware and android 2.1 update 1. I just tried both of those suggestions, once I reinstalled rom manager I went to a lower version, same problem. Should I un root my vibrant and use adifferent method? Is other methods that are.as easy to root my vibrant as the z4 app or does it not even matter as long as it is rooted? I have tried to flash many different legit roms and same thing. Is it possible that something in busybox or oclf is causing this? Thanks for your advice so far. I also have the black evo bar up top from metamorph, could this be causing the problems
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
you should definately try to disable the z4 root and then root it with the one-click root program. Also, if you have oclf enabled, it would be best to disable it.
oh and how long does the bar freeze for? if its less than a minute, give it some time. It usually takes about 5 min. to flash a new rom for me, it may be longer for you.

hopefully that helps
Guys,
I have tried several roms and decided to odin back to 2.1, updated to 2.2 and just clean it up a bit and leave it as is for a while.
Everything went just fine, but yet again this damn clockwork recovery issue which I knew I would get but thought maybe it would be solved by now on rom managers side.
So, in rom manager, it shows that current recovery is 2.5.1.2 which matches the latest, however, when I reboot into recovery, I am still getting the standard 2.2 recovery console.
I tried searching but not sure what the issue is, of course I get the signature issue when I try to update package.
It's wierd that it's showing it's installed but it's not actually booting into the correct recovery console.
Thanks.

get the 1 from there, reinstall packages twice and it should go to clockwork recovery
Okay, obviously option b would be better, however, will I have to reroot after if I use option B?
Nadda, same results, it's okay though, I'll live with it for now since I'll keep 2.2 with all the crud removed for now.
Please read that guide. You've missed some key points. I'd explain more, but I'm hanging with my kid.. Read the guide.
had the same problem i used this method and it worked for me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423&highlight=recovery
Okay, here's the story.
I rooted my phone, turned S-ON, and installed Cyanogen 7 RC-1. So far so good.
Next I threw on ROM Manager, and got the premium version. I updated CWR to 5.0.2.0. And then went to play.
Well, first thing I noticed was ROM Manager kept erroring out when it rebooted into recovery. The error report is something about being "unable to locate dev/tty0". That was when I noticed something.
In ROM Manager, it says Clockwork is updated to 5.0.2.0
But in Recovery Mode it says 2.5.1.2
So far, I've tried "Erase Recovery", flashing to 3.0.0.8 and seeing if that worked (it didnt'). Then i tried going back up to 5.0.2.0. That didn't work either.
I tried a manual instal of 5.0.2.0 and the system didn't even recognize the file, so I probably did something wrong there.
I'm just lost. Can anyone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong? I just want to flash some ROMs with up to date soft-/firm-ware.
new version is buggy
i had an update for my clockwork mod when i tried to download a rom so installed the updated clockwork but in the end i found the new version 5 to be very buggy but if you want to try just try installing another rom (do a nandroid backup first) and it should install the new recovery but in my oppinion i wouldnt bother upgrading why update something that works thats the common saying
Well, in this case, I'm trying to upgrade from Cyanogen (which I've backed up), to Synergy's GingerSense RS1 for the Droid Incredible. However, while it flashes the ROM, it hangs on the boot up screen when rebooting, so I have to go back to Cyanogen. What got this whole thing started was figuring out what I had to do to get that working.
I'm on HBOOT 079, CWR 2.5.1.2, and none of ROM Managers automated features work because of the "Can't located /dev/tty0" function. The only advice I could find online for that was that 2.5.x is too old, and I need at least 3.0.0.8 to load some of these ROMs.
Small error, I didn't run "unrevoked-forever" so I'm not S-OFF yet.

You did say you "turned S-ON" but really you just, as you said, didn't have S-OFF. So I'm guessing your problem was solved when you got S-OFF and tried again right?
Yup, I just fixed the S-ON issue into S-OFF, and lo and behold it worked.
*looks around sheepishly* Let us never speak of this again.
Hey all,
I'm very new to Cyanogen, so sorry if this is a very n00b question.
The ROM Manager doesn't appear to work. It keeps telling me I'm not running ClockWorkMod recovery, and cannot connect to the web to download. I purchased the premium version thinking it would solve this (as well as to support the dev), but no luck. Is it just an issue with the nightlies not capable of handling ROM manager yet, or is it a setting of some sort that I'm neglecting? It's not a huge deal, but it looks like such a nice, simple way to stay up-to-date with the nightly builds as opposed to updating through CWM, wiping, etc.
I saw a post mentioning to go into developer tools and enable root access. The closest I found was in settings and I allowed apps and ADB root access, but this didn't help.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
I'm a bit confused, Why do you require ROM manager? The CWM that is built in with the ICS Kang releases should be doing everything that is required, then again, your reply would matter.
I think I am having the same issue. When I try to Flash ClockworkMod Touch in Rom Manager it keeps telling me I need to first install ClockworkMod Recovery even though I have Recovery 5.5.0.4 currently installed. It did the same thing when I had Recovery 4.0.0.4 installed.
I even tried to "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" (First option in ROM Manager) and it does nothing.
Any ideas?
BEcause the same menu is in the CWM recovery lol
I'm following one of the threads that updates the kang build every 3 days, and as opposed to having to boot through CWM, wipe, install, then re-install apps and replace widgets, I thought I could update through ROM Manager instead.
It sounds like Sn0warmy and I are having similar issues.
From what I've heard the ROM Manager doesn't really work for the tab yet. If you want to update without replacing all your apps you can just flash the zip file in CWM without doing a wipe. If it causes problems then you could do a wipe & reflash afterwards.

ROM manager works but it's wonky on the ICS kangs. It doesn't do anything that you can't already do in recovery, so there's no real advantage anyways. Oh, and don't use ROM manager to install a new recovery, and CWR touch doesn't work for the GT10.
^You saved me the trouble of insisting Why thank you good sir.
Thanks for the replies. I'll keep updating through CWM.
Coffeebeans, obviously I'm following your thread (thanks for the good work!) and I tried flashing over once but I got a ton of process media FCs so I figured wiping was the best way to go and have done so ever since. Probably should invest in titanium backup at this point so I don't have to reinstall from market everytime I wipe.
Thanks again for the help y'all.
It worked once with 4/17 build of CM9. After that, it has never worked again. It boots into recovery and pretends its flashing, but stops half a second later and restarts.
Something odd happened today when I tried to update. It rebooted and phone locked up and screen went black. I took out the battery and put it back in then held up and power to go into CWM. All of a sudden Rom Manager took over and flashed the rom as well as the additional zips successfully and rebooted. Everything works.
CWM tries to flash from /emmc. Rom Manager tries to flash from /sdcard and fails. It may be due to the swapped mount points on CM9. in CWM they are still swapped, even if you check the use internal storage box and everything shows up properly in CM9.
