[Q]Is there any improvement using ICS? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi there.
New to ANDROID stuff and using an ACTIVE second month now. I was wondering. Is there any documentet improvement going from Gingerbread to ICS on other devices or test on xperias? I mean. Is there going to be new "drivers" for CPU/GPU? RAM management? Or is it just the looks of the build that matters and new functions? Or are we seing a completely new kernel/ROM as we know/used to?
If I misssed a thread my bad. Please point me to it then
Kind regards,
Soulfly1976

we will get some new features like swype clear notifications, swype to end applications, more settings to control device, enhanced user interface. but unfortunately we are not getting new kernel.

Thanks for that, helps to know what i'm waiting for...

The Ultimate Custom X10 Rom

Ok so the Xperia X10 community has had it hard and there’s a lot of anger and resentment in the forums and all over the net. I know I’ve voiced my views with many degrees of hurt till I’m blue in the face but it doesn’t change much and generally puts everyone in a bad and defeated mood.
So I was thinking that while the amazing developers are hard at work trying to open the bootloader which would in turn bring the dawn of custom roms to the X10 what could I do to help them and the community look forward and do something positive.
So I thought rather than hug trees and kiss your neighbour why not start a thread with the sole purpose of designing a Rom in preparation for the day when the bootloader is cracked open.
I’m no coder but I can create graphic assets for UI’s and then I got to thinking what if we took a look at all the Roms out there that looked good or have excellent features that we would want in an X10 rom and from those ideas and new ones we could start the look and feel of a Rom with us in mind.
Now that would cheer everyone up surely. It could be something for us all to be proud of and for the other kitchens to take cues from as well.
So firstly lets post screen shots of things we think are ace, features we love or want, animation styles that are to die for even if they are scanned pencil sketches on paper. It would keep us occupied and give the developers some breathing space.
Just an idea
I love the idiea that sounds great wat ik would like to see are a few standard apps in the rom as rainy days titanium back up silent mode a good agenda msn talk pingchat and a good working alternitive internet browser.
if they could be put in the rom then we dont have to download them from the market.

Having particular apps included is always a bonus but i'm thinking about the Rom features them selves and how it works to make using the phone better or at least different.
See the link for an example (Not that i want my phone to look like an iPhone copy BTW)
http://www.androidcentral.com/miui-rom-now-available-motorola-droid
A great idea. I hope this will lead to some great rom's. I'm new to android and xda and I only know Python and Free pascal, so I cannot help with programming, but I will surely post it here if I come up with something.

If i remember correctly jerpelea has already compiled CM6 for X10..
I would like to see the Desire HD ROM to be ported . As it has already been ported to Nexus One and the Desire running the same Snapdragon QSD8250 it should not be much of a trouble..
I was thinking that a site just like Slax builder http://www.slax.org/build.php would be amazing.
If people could choose what apps, themes etc etc then download the custom rom I think it would be a hit...
If I knew more about rom dev I would love to have a go at seeing if this kind of thing would possible for x10 android roms. I'd be up for the dev of the site.
I would like to see on my X10 let's see.....any custom ROM.
Get Sense running on it (Android 2.2) and I'll buy an X10.
yeah good idea, but i prefer to focus our power on bootloader crack..or kick SE insiders to make them think about better decisions...but i look back, keep further..
oh, it will be great a modaco type rom maker, u know, like u choose what u want to implement to it....

A Rom with user selectable options sounds great, also sounds like a lot of work for the Dev's as essentially the rom would be compiled by the user via a gui then installed.

I think we should face the facts of the past events and give up on SE changing their direction on the X10's software lifecycle.
In all their statements not once do they apologise for not meeting the dates they set or not be close to the expectations of the X10 owners. In truth i sense an air of annoyance that they have to make statements on their own blog at all.
Future devices will be better and not so lacking on smart phone hardware standards but that will be based on associated developer requests rather than us or the general publics want and wishes.
That’s why I thought of this thread so we can end the disappoints because we’ll create what we want.
Cool idea.
Can i suggest the rom should have:
Launcher and interface:
ADW Launcher
Some 3rd party lock screen that is better than the stock, but not a buggy one
SMS Popup
SlideIT Keyboard
Beautiful Weather and Clock widget
Browser:
XScope G browser
Stock Browser as backup
Multimedia:
Doubletwist Music Player
iTag
Vignette
screenshot
Shazam
RingDroid
Utilities/Tools:
Unit Converter
SwiftFTP
gMote
Titanium Backup
EasyTether Lite
RealCalc Scientific Calculator
Xperia Flashlight
I'd suggest a clean ROM Apps can be installed later..
I'm not sure this is the right place to put this, and please don't freak out, you Windows Mobile haters, but I would like to see the X10 be able to dual boot Android and Windows Mobile.

I'm with you. A nice clean, stock ROM would be the best. Everybody can install apps for themselves (heard of AppBrain? ). Designing a ROM with pre-installed apps will be very difficult, since everybody has other tastes/likes. (For example: I hate everything pre-installed. I want to be able to choose what to install on my phone. I also hate that the pre-installed apps that come with a phone can't be uninstalled. They're just taking up precious space...)

I would pay 25,00 euros for S2U2 on my X10!! The only reason I miss WinMo...
Could be cool with duel boot on the x10i. But i would say, focus on getting a clean room first, for when the bootloader is cracked. Just with standard stuff like the browser, etc.
The CM for x10 would be amazing yes, but a custom room only for the x10, why not but good luck

That's right!
I just need a clean n OPTIMIZED for our snap dragon and GPU and memory ...thats enough ...
really news on bootloader has dried up... and lock screen in x10 is killing me and making me break the phone...
i simply wish we had a better ROM with all those resource hogging apps out of the system.
also i simply wish we had the first key in the bottom to answer calls .. instead of lock screen... that would be really great ...
720 P recording and better audio drivers with optimized and improved bass would be a real addition...
also wish dev somehow enable 16m color...
I am tired of SE .. had been a seriuos SE fan for nealry 5 yrs now
t610-k700-k750-k800-k850-w995 all major phones from them... but those days we had se-nse for custom tunning the drivers and it was fun... but now with this bootloader [email protected] i am missing the real fun..
if SE cant do anything ... they should atleast open up the bootloader to dev`s...

[Q] changes from Froyo to GB ?

hi
i have one question about updating from froyo to Gb . on froyo there is a great feature we can move/install our apps SD . on Gb what changes are made in ace i want to know
there are some apps which needs to be installed in the phone like widgets, etc. you should try upgrading. and just revert back to froyo if you dont like it.
i am hesitant myself in the beginning but after upgrading, i am much satisfied.

One of the things updated in GB is that you can now connect to an Ad-hoc wifi connection from say, a laptop or pc. Very useful if you want to control your download data from your carrier.
Another update is the effecient battery consumption in GB. Mine could last an additional half day with mild use.
froyo to GB
Hi everyone, I'm following this thread re upgrading from Froyo to Gingerbread. There don't seem to be any significant changes or improvements? I don't need the wifi sync & my battery life in Froyo is EXCELLENT, so are there any other interesting things that will actually make it worthwhile upgrading?? Thanks, Graham. London
ooo ok & what about battery life on GB it good & it is better than Froyo ? & what about Performance on Gb

besides the battery and the ability to connect to an ad-hoc connection, the video capture got bumped to 640x480 from 320x240..

Try using 2.3.3 KPN, the latest official firmware release by Samsung. (july 2011)
Lots of bug fixes, faster modem (means better connection) and yes... improving the battery life from Froyo.
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) supports the following features in addition to existing 2.2 features:
New user interface design with new themes (Black themes save power)
Extra Large Screen Size supported
SIP Communication Supported (SIP Video and Audio Calling, In an operator point of view, this is feature will decrease their voice calling revenue where as user can call each other for lower rates or even free if they have good data connection)
Supports for NFC (High Frequency High Speech Data Transfer in short range)
Support for WebM/VP8 video playback, and AAC audio encoding
New audio effects such as reverb, equalization, headphone virtualization, and bass boost
Improved Copy and Paste functionality
Redesigned Multi Touch Software Keyboard
Audio, graphical, and input enhancements for game developers
New sensors support (i.e gyroscope)
Download manager for long running HTTP downloads
Enhanced support for native code
Improved power management and application control
Support for multiple cameras
Now, for the difference between, 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 Gingerbread, it's only the Video Call feature for Gtalk. That's why I'm sticking with 2.3.3 KPN since it's an official Samsung release already.

[Q] Deactivated phone - possibly stupid question

I have an old Fascinate that is no longer in service that I'd like to give to my kids for games and geocaching.
Is there any way to permanently disable the phone/3G data features, or is there a custom ROM with these features removed?
I've tried googling around and found some ROMs for this, but nothing specifically for the Fascinate.

Id say start with THS Build 14, and delete Phone.apk, TelephonyProvider.apk, MMS.apk, and Contacts.apk. Id say that's it if its deactivated, because then they cant call and accidentally activate it somehow.
Take a look at the GeeWiz thread in the development section. DJP has a version of the ROM specifically designed for what you are trying to do.
Good luck.

Thanks to both of you.
I'll give GeeWiz a look, it's cool that someone is actually developing a ROM to utilize unused but otherwise great phones.
Short term I may try a variation on Cookiemonster's suggestion since the phone has CM7.2 on it now and removing those apks might be simpler than a complete wipe and rebuild.
:good:

TheCollective ROM/MOD 09/02/12 Question

Hello guy. I've installed the new TheCollective Rom and there is something I don't seem to find in it yet and that is the DATA TOGGLE. Can someone let me know if there is any way to activate it because I don't find a way.
They haven't included it yet into the jb rom. Its on their list of things to get done. They have a lot of fresh customization coming down the pipe as well from what I hear.

[Q] Too Many ICS Api's

Hey Xda!
Lately, I have come across some pretty cool apps. Such as SF Launcher Alpha, Action Launcher, Sliding Messages, etc. (which I highly recommend you check out, they are pretty cool), but what do they all have in common? They all require ICS or higher Roms. When I email the developers and ask if they could backport the app, they all say the same thing: "Sorry, I use too many ICS Api's to support Gingerbread". Now, I understand that Gingerbread has limitations, but can these apps really not run on gingerbread devices? I remember a year ago that everyone said that the Apollo music player can not run on gingerbread, but look at it now, it is on gingerbread running perfectly fine. So with that being said, can someone explain to me what developers mean when they say they use too many ICS Api's?
Not trying to step on any ones toes either, just want to know.
Thanks in advance!
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2
Anyone?
it means that they don't have any gingerbread phones to test their app on, or simply because they don't want to provide backward support.
