[Q] [Ics] cm9 alpha CPU frequencies - Motorola Photon 4G

Hi,
I followed qbking77's video to install the alpha build of ICS on photon 4G. I then used Antutu CPU Master (Free) to underclock the phone. After the twaeking I used the app CPU Spy to check the distribution of CPU frequencies used over a period of time. I observed that the phone has not been able to get into the deep sleep mode. With stock ROM, the phone always spent over 80% of the time in deep sleep (averaged over a day). But the ICS build is not allowing the phone to get into deep sleep state.
Its either this or the CPU Spy app is broken by the ICS build. I am not sure what it is and I wanted to ask the forum members if they have seen anything similar. Due to permission issues I am being forced to post it here rather than the development thread. I apologize if this causes any confusion.
I am interested in this as this might help improve the battery life.

Have you posted any of this info in Joker's ICS Forum? I think he would appreciate the feedback.

I cant post in dev forum unless I have 10 posts. If someone could post in on my behalf it would be great. I think this is something that will greatly improve battery life if it gets fixed.

[Q] Really Annoying Battery Issue

First of all, I'll try to explain the situation:
I was using my X10a with the stock 2.1 2.0.2.A.0.24 firmware with root and JIT enabled (yeah, I like to use my Sony Ericsson with Sony Ericsson's software). And everything was fine, I had the software mod to enable dual touch, so far, so good.
Then, I heard about this new 2.1.A.0.435 build with some improvements on Mediascape and overall performance, not to mention the official dual touch support (that is a bit better than the unofficial). So, as my X10 is Global Generic, I decided to update my software with SEUS. After updating, I rooted my phone and did the same things that I did on the other build (enable JIT and install Sysctl), but this time, my battery was draining like more than 10 percent an hour no matter if it was idle or in use! So i started investigating what was draining my battery and by monitoring the CPU use with SetCPU, I noticed that the CPU was always working at 998Mhz and before, it usually went up to 998Mhz, but when idle, it stayed on 245Mhz. With .24 build, it usually stayed on 245Mhz when idle, but with .435 build, it ALWAYS is on 998Mhz, even when idle! Sometimes, for less than a second, it goes down to 245Mhz and immediately up back to 998Mhz. I've tried many things, but the processor clock is always on top. SetCPU can underclock it (I can set both sliders to 245 and it will show that the CPU is on 245), but I don't want to use a slow phone to get the same battery life I got with the other build! And I checked with SeePU the CPU load doesn't change the clock. Even with low cpu usage, it keeps the 998Mhz clock.
Anyone has got any suggestions of what should I try now? I already updated with SEUS, repaired with SEUS, flashed the Stock .435 ROM downloaded from this forum but the problem persists. Any suggestion to solve this battery drain problem is welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Now I see how useful it is to post a question in this section of the forum.
Use Set cpu profiles, I.e. when The screen Is off the cpu should be at the minimum settings, with the highest priority.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yeah, this is a fix. But then, to have the regular battery life, I just have to let my phone idle at all times and not use it as before? And by the way, by the time I said "how useful..." I already found that an app was draining my battery life. The app was Turn Silent. It kept my CPU at highest clock at all times, making even charging the phone a hard task. I just went back to Flip4Silence. Now my CPU stays at 245Mhz at most times.
Still I see that posting in the right section of the forum is useless. If I posted this thread at Android Development, people who get to understand what makes Android bump up the CPU clock would certainly at least investigate what might be happening. Well, it seems that build .435 is better, but it allows the CPU to stay at full clock more than needed. And the SetCPU fix really meant a great deal, but to get longer battery life, I have to "avoid" using my handset. I hope someone join me in this thread and help me investigating what's wrong. I'll try this new firmware released by Rogers, since it has a new baseband and possibly a fix for that CPU management issue.

There was no need for this useless and demeening comment.

Stating true situations is demeening? What about bringing up solutions in the correct place? Is that too much to ask? Oh, well... Anyway sorry for the ones who got offended.

[Q] CPU Temperature App/Widget

After searching XDA, reddit, and another plethora of forums, I've been unable to get a real hold on cpu temperature reading for the thunderbolt running dream kernel 2.3+ with das bamf sense 3.0. Are there any apps for this set of software that will be able to tell me the cpu temperature?
If not, is there another kernel I could flash to enable it on setcpu or a similar app?
Thanks (and sorry if the answer is in an obscure post I missed).

SetCPU should do the trick.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Is there a way to get setcpu to show the cpu temperature? In system info I can only find battery temperature. And it appears as though the widget shows battery temperature as well.
Thanks.
The battery is a good measuring stick because if the CPU starts getting real hot from over use, the battery will too, since the CPU is gonna be sucking juice. I don't know of anything to measure actual CPU temp though. Sorry.

im not 100% sure, but i think there is a widget for setcpu and it will give you the readings you are looking for.
Thank you all. It seems as though the setcpu widget will give the CPU temp, but it is usually near or the same as the battery temp. Either that or the thunderbolt doesn't really have a dedicated sensor (such as the OMAP one).

But there may be cases where the battery is damaged, water or steam damage can occur and it might give a wrong reading (hapened to a cellphone i bought from a friend that was water damaged, got my money back though)

Wolf Rom draining battery quickly

I recently installed wolf's rom and I am seeing that my battery is going down quickly when in use... I can't post in the developer thread as my post count is less.
Can someone help me out ?
I was on the original rom before.. the battery life was much better at that time.
Hi,
check with CPU spy if your X10 enters deep sleep mode. I had the problem 2-3 times that my phone didnĀ“t enter deep sleep and that drained my battery.
Ralf
Just checked ...
998 MHz - 43%
768 MHz - 18%
576 MHz - 19%
384 MHz - 2%
245 MHz - 6%
Deep Sleep - 8%
My brother was playing Angry Birds on it (just for info)
I have noticed that the battery works fine when the phone is not in use... As soon as I start using it the battery icon starts reducing..
couple of issues.. first of all the battery life while using the phone has reduced it was better previously..
The phone appears to be more heated when playing games..
I updated the rom as well but after that I found bravia engine and xloud disappeared, then I installed the addon for bravia engine and xloud.. after that I checked the phone info and I found that the rom that is displayed is Wolf_Xperia_4.2.1_cust
Same here, on Wolf_Xperia_4.0.3_cust, was working almost perfectly on previous release but this seems to drain 5% in 3-5 mins use. The phone is fine when in deep sleep.
I have check CPU Spy and the phone does enter deep sleep. Almost as soon as the display come on it goes down 1%.
It's very strange.

Don't use the custom versions if you don't know what is it... -- Use the stock ones
May be now I can post in the development section, I will ask it in that thread only.. lets see if I get any solution.. I will update it here..

CPU + Battery oddities

I'm not sure whether to have made a topic or post on Cleanrom ICS's thread but when I installed System Tuner (free), CPU0 bounces between 384mhz and 1.51mhz non-stop at a VERY fast pace, after a fresh reboot. As a comparison, my gf's Galaxy S2 Skyrocket w/ stock GB is stable at 384mhz.
On a site note: her CPU1 switched to 384mhz from offline more frequently than mine did. Mine wouldn't budget unless i rotated the phone. I removed mpdrecision from /system/bin and now CPU1 is doing the same thing as CPU0. (384 => 1.51 repetitively)
My phone did the repetitive jump between the lowest and highest CPU settings before, but I was stock rooted at that time. I have no idea what could possibly be causing this issue.
Sent from my beast known as the Rezound using XDA App
I take it the problem has been fixed miraculously on your end?
I take it nobody has a solution to this issue?
Honestly I think it's just an issue with the kernel (If it even is an issue). There are multiple threads with people having quirks with their cpu frequencies not setting/sitting properly. This would have to be something that HTC fixes, or a dev if they can figure out the underlying issue. I/many users don't have issues with battery life if that is your main concern? Unfortunately it's something you'll have to deal with till a fix comes around.
Yeah it certainly seems to be an issue with the kernel. I've been playing around with it and I've yet to find a way to keep the CPU(s) from spiking. I am curious how widespread of an issue this is. It seems to be a non-issue that gets ignored on the dev forums. Is this just because it's not very widespread?
If it's a common issue it may not be a battery drain but if it's not it would certainly explain why I can barely get 7hrs on low/average usage out of my phone on WiFi.
I'd love it if anyone could share any information they have regarding this issue!
Thanks

It's probably the fact that the kernel is from the leaked ics builds. Once official ics hits the kernel pulled from that hopefully would be better.
If it's really causing problems stick to gb. Id personally recommend dsb's kernel.
I reverted my phone back to stock (via ruu) and oddly enough the stock kernel suffered this same issue but when I flashed incredikernel the issue stopped.
EDIT:
You guys think this might be a funky HW issue?

Siyah Kernel Question

I recently just flashed the latest Siyah Kernel. I notice that my 'Display is 75%' on battery. My brightness settings is already set to manual its on 20%? whats wrong?
and is it normal after flashing a kernel, will my battery rapidly decrease cause current its down to 80% from 100% for only 2 hours. Im not a heavy user.
no its not atleast not for me... what rom are u using? are u sure there isnt any apps that is draining ur phone? are u sure ur phone goes to deep sleep?
use there apps to check:
betterbatterystats (wakelocks)
cpu spy (deep sleep)
currently im using stock rom 2.3.6. gonna try out those two apps now

yes my battery does go into deep sleep.
for wakelocks.
there are alot of android system apps that has a count of more than 300 -.-
so what do i do?
You let your phone run for 8-10 hrs (overnight, after a period of use, etc) then you have a look @ wakelocks in BBS. 10 minutes isn't going to tell you anything.
I'm also using Siyah 2.6.13 & am having no problems whatsoever.
Edit to add - Also read the BetterBatteryStats thread, particularly the first 20/last 20 pages. Once you've read the thread & let you phone run for that 8-10 hrs, you'll be able to ask in the thread what details/screenshots you'll need to post in order for the guys who post regularly in the thread to help you. They're the experts, far more likely to get the help you need doing it this way.

yes boss
I am currently having some issues with Siyah kernal on Wanam's ICS rom. battery drain is significantly higher for some reasons. I also had a lot of FC and reboot freeze, cpu profilers such as setcpu will crash the phone etc. I also noticed the same thing for the 2.3.5 roms onwards.
anyway my personal experience at the moment. I am reverting back to the leaked ICS kernel until the kernel can be sorted.

Siyah doesn't support any ICS ROMs. Says so right at the top of the first post of the Siyah thread.
EDIT: looks like GohkanMoral recently (like TODAY) posted on his website about an alpha version of Siyah that supports ICS... but it's not released yet, and it IS an alpha.
