Which is better? Clockwork or TWRP - HTC EVO 3D

Which is best to use I know both have pro's and cons. But which one is best for hboot 1.5.
I know folks said TWRP broke up and support is no longer going on for it. Clockwork is still in the game on things. Anyways what do you prefer.
I currently have latest TWRP messed with it looks nice smooth so far. Anyways gonna give clockwork a shot.
I seen a few posts about this just curious with the hboot 1.5 which one is prefered for it.

ya know i wonder about that also.i have been on clockwork since the early hero days and i think i have had to ditch it one time for a rom i wanted cant remember it now,but its never gave me any issue that i can recall.sorry not much help at all and im on 1.4... the curiousity just caught my interest.

Both seem to be good did some more diggin people were saying TWRP was splitting up and no support that's not true there still working on it and plan on coming out with a new one in the future.

I noticed that. The touch screen is bad ass.

Read the notice on twrp's site. They are done developing it. They will be working on other projects now that someone left the group.
You'll shoot your eye out (in 3D)

Seems to boil down to personal preference. I used Clockwork on my original EVO, and TWRP on my E3D. I agree that the TWRP 2.0 touch interface is a big leap, but they both get the job done.

Hboot 1.50 Unlocked/ Recovery issues
I'm on hboot 1.50 Htc Unlocked and I've tried both. It would be nice if the backups were compatible with each other. I did like the TWRP touch interface, but we all know that sometimes digitizers go bad, but then so do hardware buttons. After reading through the TWRP website I decided to just stick with CWM.
I am however having a difficult time installing anything other than CWM v4.0.1.4 (v5.0.2.0 is available) or TWRP 2.0 rc0.1 . Tried FlashImage, Fastboot, and Rom Manager. Tried the .zips and the .img files. Arrrrghh.

I don't want to just repost a bunch of stuff, so I am wondering if anyone with hboot 1.50 has had any issues getting updated recoveries flashed once unlocked. The only ones I can get loaded are either Twrp 2.0 or CWM v4.0.1.4 and I am trying to get CWM v 5.0.2.0 installed. Its weird. Feel free to have a look.

I just got the HTC EVO 3D, and like a tard I updated everything not really paying attention to updating system updates. Well I updated to Hboot 1.5...
Is there a way to flash back or RSD back to stock firmware and software? Or am I screwed until they come up with a way to root at hboot 1.50
Thanks for the info in advance.

Unfortunately no, there isn't a way to downgrade. HTC makes it so you can't downgrade the bootloader (unless you were S-off). The RUU would error out at the bootloader, and tell you 'main version older' or something like that. You could use the HTC 'unlock' method and flash a recovery, but you'd still be S-on, and won't be able to flash kernels. If I were in your situation, I'd probably just hang tight for a little while and wait and see if revolutionary gets updated (because it's said that they're in the process of working on the 1.5hboot).
Yeah I just ran thru the HTC Dev unlock already. Back everything up, and flashed the recovery. I think I will try out the cleanrom for now and see if anything happens. I been up too long and I am delirious lol. Thank you for your reply. Hopefully I didn't screw anything else up hah.

Just an Update
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224781
Here is an update on unlocked bootloader for 1.50 Hboot.
Confirmed it says unlocked, but seems to be some issues with s-on s-off. I was able to get recovery flashed. Now I am trying to flash cleanrom atm. As we speak booting to cleanrom. Booted...no issues thus far. Running great. Now I will try a different kernel and see if that works.
I am having a hard time with getting my voicemails sent to my evo3d as a notification for a new message.. this has been a prob for sometime now and I've always just thought that I never had ne voicemails or perhaps I haven't set up my voicemail account right or at all just yet when come to find out yesterday I had 33 msgs exceeding my inbox n lost em all.. never once had I got the notifications or alerts for any of em though. Can any one assist me in fixing this issue please? I've alrdy tried calling CricKet and having them reset my voicemail services n that didn't seem to werk either. So far that's as far as I got. Also, I can't seem to get the thumbnail photos of my contacts to show in the messaging app or whatever, not even as i am in the current conversation with sumone.. it just shows the blank pic. And they show in my contacts book/app just fine. How do I go about fixing this as well? Thanks in advance.. oh yea lemme give yu detail on my phones details to further help with the assistance. I am currently running "joeykrim's original 1.2.0 Odex" ROM which I had gottn off ROM Manager and flashed over using TWRP's 1.3 Recovery .. I might also add that i am with CricKet's slow ass service running on PRL #45512 in Colorado. And yes this ROM is the latest updated version of 2.3.4... If need more info or even a descent screenshot of my settings or info on device and image of the problems I'm having I can also provide upon request..
Sorry if this ain't the place for this question but I have searched evrywhere n did my part in th research n read rule alrdy n have found nuthn what so ever related to my concerns so please don't gimme the ol look around speech please... Thanks much in advance .. KaeDee. Please email me @ [email protected] or contact me private message with helpful or useful info thanks again..

Nah we were in this situation for awhile with the Incredible. Nand unlock or s-off lets you flash radios and hboot. . It also sticks through most updates for instance those who had s-off before the 1.5 update are able to go back if they want and are able to root without using htc unlock.
what you get with the htc unlock is a permanent root that allows custom recovery and roms. not sure about kernels as I have read conflicting posts. as always your best bet is to read up in the forums before accepting any updates from htc.
any updates fellow members security -off for the new hboot version ?

I unlocked through the HTC unlock . Its correct that it doesnt allow you to get S-Off , but from my expierence flashing on the 3D is as follows . If you enter fastboot through CMD screen and fire up recovery through CMD it flashes everything . I have flashed several different roms in the past week . Boot animations change , Kernels change everything changes . Now I have not tried to flash radios and so forth . That may still be locked out I am not sure from personal expierence . I only went the HTC unlock way , mainly due to getting a new job and now getting a discount through verizon . I may (Keyword MAY) jump ship to Verizon only due to coverage issues and the Droid Prime . For the time being the coverage issues I can deal with . Also most of my family is on verizon . But back to the main point . Most of the functions that I had with S-Off I am still able to do as long as I start up recovery through CMD prompt . I have a feeling HTC did this intentionally . My theories on it is , by forcing users to go through the command promt . It "kinda" weeds out the users that know what they are doing from the ones that don't. Yes its easy to get around it and now isnt so much a problem to flash through cmd and most anyone will eventually find the way to do so . But that is how the internet works , information is passed even faster than before and like all information . The ones who really shouldnt mess with it will get access to it and others who know what they are doing have it . When I mean by users that shouldnt have access I mean the ones who have no clue what a Kernel is and just flash things to flash things and end up with a nice paperweight . Im by no means a hardcore hacker or power user , but I do spend several nights reading as much as I can and asking the correct questions before I proceed with anything on my phone since its my only form of communication (no home phone).
I unfortunately dropped my phone this last weekend and shattered the screen. I still have it (probably for only another day) and it still works. Is there any way to use this rooted, s-off, busted phone to get s-off on my new phone that came installed with 1.5?

All that's required is that you have access to torq drivers, and have careful hands to handle ribbon cables, and youre good to go! But being 3D when u replace the screen it's not just the glass digitizer, its a whole unit and I think its even easier to replace
What is this?

It's yousefAK....duh....
I will call balderdash on this, as he only made a video of the GUI, which could easily be cobbled together in about 20 min. The video was uploaded over a month ago (Oct 1), and is "in development". I'm thinking the exploit referred in the description either:
A. Never existed
B. Didn't work like the vid owner anticipated
Even the yousefAK offers this response, from 3 weeks ago (around Oct 21):
"Use HTC's unlock and flash TWRP 1.1. Then flash the SU files and you have permanent root. The only thing is that you will have to flash kernels through fastboot"

Amon Ra Styled recovery

I am looking to buy an E3D. Just a few days ago a guy over on the OG Evo made a recovery just like the Amon Ra one. I don't know how many of you have used it, but I like it over the clockwork one, just my personal opinion. I wanted to see if anyone else would like to have it. He said he could make one for us, but he needed some help from an E3D user. Since I don't have one now, I can't help out. Just wanted to see if someone else could. Check this post out and this is his thread. If you are interested let him know. There are some screen shots near the end of the thread.
I used amon on my OG evo and loved it. Personally, I use TWRP on my Evo 3D and don't think it is significantly different from amon. If you like amon, you'll probably feel very at ease with TWRP.
Once you go TWRP you'll never go back

TWRP is so much better than either Amon Ra or Clockwork. my favorite feature is selecting the zips you want and having it flash them all and reboot all in one shot. Try that with Amon Ra.
TWRP for life!
Ok cool, I was researching recoveries and didn't find that for some reason. All I found was clockwork. I hope to make the switch soon to a 3D.

If you use the hboot1.5 guide youll be fine...Flashing is the same as before with the exception of kernels and kernel based roms...Even then the process for flashing takes seconds..it really is easy to use...
From what I have read, you have to flash a rom and then a custom kernel, even if the rom has one. Something about it being protected and won't take if just the rom was flashed. I am still reading before I start the process. I normally run a custom kernel instead of the stock one that comes with a rom anyways.

Sorry to say but you must not be on HBOOT1.5 AND S-ON like anyone with the flashing issues will be....
all you have to do if you are HTC UNLOCKED AND ROOTED IS and USB DEBUGGING IS ON... as follow's
1. unzip this RAR file which I have just now uploaded to your desktop
[I say there cause I will be doing commands and if you change the location you will have to do different ones...]
(most of the files I got off of a help for 1.5 flashing I DID replace CWR with TWRP)
2. if you have not ever installed the HTC EVO 3D driver's I left them in the folder please install it now.... if you have them installed SKIP THIS!
3. click start run CMD,then "cd Desktop\evo" then
"adb reboot bootloader" wait for HBOOT SCREEN IT IS WHITE...then,
"fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" wait for completion then FYI only need to do this once! then
"fastboot boot twrp.img"
you are now in custom recovery TWRP and you can flash ANY ROM & or KERNEL and it will flash just fine but you will always have to repeat these commands anytime you want to flash a kernel and I suggest the same for roms since 99% of them have custom kernels. don't depend on your reboot to recovery OPTION IT STILL WILL NOT WORK U NEED TO USE THESE COMMANDS HBOOT1.5 USERS!
this is the repeatable commands that are to be done in command prompt
cd Desktop\evo
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot twrp.img
done!
suggestion is to do the commands once then leave the CMD prompt window open since you can just go up and down on the keyboard key to rekey it over and over again...
if this has helped you please leave a Thanks! also this folder is preset up so ADB doesn't need to be fully working on your pc for it to work since ADB IS INCLUDED.
enjoy got any questions shoot me a pm if i don't reply back here... or do both if your anxious.
So from what I read, even if I can manually go into recovery (bootloader then select recovery or just reboot into recovery) without the commands, it still won't flash correctly? You have to do the commands listed above no matter what? If so o'well, it makes the process a lil bit longer than normal and makes me be tethered to my desktop when I do this process, but hey it's better than not being able to run anything period.

[Q] Help. I am having a serious brain fart! ROOT question

I am beyond feeling like a ReeeTard right now. As someone who beta tests for a lot of ROM builders and knows a great deal about Android, software development etc... please don't reply to this with a smart a** remark. It helps no one and makes you look like just a jerk.
We all have our days where we simply cannot think straight, I am dealing with a great deal of stress, in my life, so forgive me for somehow not finding the answer to this question.
I updated my phone, using an RUU...My phone WAS hboot 1.40, now however it's hboot 1.50, and it's UNLOCKED (the bootloader) as well as S-Off, Am I forgetting to do something to have ROOT access?
So I am hboot 1.50 UNLOCKED and S-off
With all of those things I thought, because I cant seem to think clearly right now, that I was rooted. I however ran root checker and I am not.
Please throw me a bone and fill me in on what I am missing here. It's been a rough couple weeks for me.
Much appreciated.

Hey! No worries man. You're almost there. All you need to do is flash a recovery now. Choose a recovery, and flash it, either a pg86img.zip or a recovery.img, and flash it. Once you have recovery flashed, either just flash a rooted ROM, or flash a su.zip. Then you should be good to go.

You're welcome. Glad to help. Let me know if you have further questions. if you just decide to flash a su.zip, as opposed to an entire custom rom, you'd probably have the best luck looking in the old original TWRP thread for one. I know that had a su.zip posted in it. I'll see if i can find it for you real quick.
EDIT: Here's a super user zip http://techerrata.com/toastcfh/Shooter/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-fixed-unsigned.zip that I found in the 3rd post of this old thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192077&highlight=twrp+recovery. That's not the newest super user app, but it should work just fine, and you should be able to update it from there once you get it installed.

i was actually unaware that updating your bootloader would still leave you s-off if you were on 1.4. that is interesting... although i would still never update.
did you know that it would still leave you with your NAND unlocked when you updated?

Yea, updating will still leave you S-off. You won't have a custom recovery anymore, and you'll be on hboot 1.5, but you still have S-off. There is pretty much no way that I know of to turn it back to S-on without going into fastboot and doing that 'fastboot setsecureflag3' command or whatever it is. The revolutionary team gave us some pretty damn permanent S-off, lol. I've seen lots of people take OTA updates, and still have S-off. You can even downgrade the hboot back to 1.4 if you wanted to, even though there really isn't a reason to. Having hboot 1.5 with S-off is just the same as having 1.4 with s-off, you don't need to do any extra stuff to flash.

[Q] Returning User After Long Break/Best To Use

Hello! I used to be very engrossed in the modding community for the Rezound a few months ago. But because of a forced phone switch I haven't been in the loop for a while.
Well now I'm back on a Rezound and I was wanting to know a few things.
Fair warning. When I left we had just achieved S-off and were delving into the new things we could do from then on, so if my questions seem dated; I'm sorry.
Also, my phone atm is on stock ICS, I wanted to get a feel for everything again before I went and rooted it.
*Which are the most prominent ROMs right now? (Preferrably sense with beats)
*Do any of those ROMs have a working DSP Manager with Virtual room or ability to get it working on it?
*What is this whole GSM thing I'm seeing on some ROMs lists? Are we able to use the rezound easily overseas or on different networks now or something?
I have looked through some of the forums but haven't been able to find any concrete information, so I figured I would just post my own thread.
Thank you for your time and any replies!
The most prominent roms are any of the ones on the first two pages of the development sections. I know that neo includes a Beats mod in his AOSP roms which works as well as any stock beats you'll find in a sense rom. The DSP manager included with cyanogenmod is 100% functional as far as I can tell. And yes, we can use the rezound on AT&T (siul does MIUI and uses his rezound on AT&T) but I'm not sure as to what frequencies we have access to and if its HSPA or not.
Since you've been gone we received a global ruu that gives the rezound service over seas. The most prominent roms sense based are viperrez, newts one xxx, ecliptic rez and so on.. Those are just the ones I've tried. I'm running newts hybrid rom now and it's doing well though it's not as optimized as his one xxx rom

It is. Installed it.
I think I'm all set now except for one thing. Is it normal now after you unlock and install a recovery for it to say TAMPERED? Last I saw that was when people were installing the leaked ICS RUUs.
The order of which I rooted my phone in case I did anything wrong was. Unlock bootloader with HTCDev, Phone restarted, let it load up then went into the menu and enabled Debugging again, shut it off. Reloaded fastboot. Then installed TWRP 2.3.3.0 using the All-in-one tool. After that my bootloader said TAMPERED.
Thanks again for all the help.

Reloaded fastboot. Then installed TWRP 2.3.3.0 using the All-in-one tool. After that my bootloader said TAMPERED.
Thanks again for all the help.

Tampered is ok. It just means there's a custom recovery installed. Every now and then TWRP has some issues flashing certain files just so you know, most likely you'll never see it, but just in case it keeps you from chasing your tail I mentioned it.
We're s off now, that's the big change for when you want to do some wild modification. But thanks to snuzzo there's no harm done in being s on it's easier now than it used to be.
Anything else, send me a PM if you'd like and we can catch up on gtalk.
So is your hboot 2.25 and your radio basebands end in .421r and .424r?

Roms wont flash

Sorry if the answers im looking for are somewhere else but i cant find them. Im not new to the rooting game but it has been awhile, last phone rooted was the original evo and ive fallen behind on the new software and such. anyways ive rooted successfully and am running hboot 1.19 with s-on. for some reason i get the same error message when flasing a rom saying that sdcard cannot be found. do i need to be running s-off with 1.19 to flash roms? Thanks!

What rom are you flashing? What recovery are you using? What release of said recovery are you using? can you see the sdcard in the listing of the recovery screen?

this is the error message i get.
E: Unable to stat '/sdcard2/.
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/cm-10-1.zip"

Hopefully that all that is needed... but S-OFF is the way to go if you can do it. It will save you so many headaches in the future. HTC is making it harder on s-on people to do anything to their phone, this started with the 3.15 JB update and will probably get worse. S-OFF my friend S-OFF

Hold the phone. Flashing TOO new of a recovery (like TWRP 2.4.1) can also cause problems. There's something that the dev has to place in the ROM in order to be compatible with 2.4.1. May I suggest you try 2.3.1? It seems to be the "sweet spot" and works with most ROMs out there today.
Here's the install page for the evo 4g LTE:
