[Q] [SOLVED] Gallery App and Pictures Time Stamp - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey everyone!
I have extensively search the forum about my question but didn't find the answer, so here we go:
I had to format my android internal memory, before that i copied all the picture to my pc (windows) then after the format i copy all them back to the correct directory.
The problem is that the android galerry uses the "create date" attribute of the pictures to sort them, and now all the pictures are sorted in the same date.
I checked and all the exif data is ok in all the pictures, anyone know if there is a way to change the creation date of a file based on the exif (batch process or in the worst case scenario, one by one)?
thanks everyone!

Quick pic from market its far faster and uses creation name to sort.

Solved
i'm at home now and i just dicovered that if you copy the pictures files via usb mass storage (instead of using mtp protocol) the timestamp of the files remaing unchanged (i guess the mtp kind of recreate the files on the phone), so the sorting of the gallery is normal again.

[Q] Photo importation nightmare with i9100

Hi, just a simple question for you folks:
How do you import photos cleanly from the i9100?
Kies is a mess: no thumbnail / every single folder is scanned, regardless of .media files / files already imported are not identified as such / no grouping by date etc.
Windows 7 file explorer and picasa are barely better...
Help please.
with any other android phone, you just drag and drop using a file explorer. create a new folder called pics, or put them in the DCIM folder if you want, and let it scan away and youre done.
if the SGS2 is having some specific issue that causes this to not work like it normally does, then i have no idea.
same applies to your music collection too.
I delved deeper into the problem. Switching to debug mode / removing kies usb connexion mode allows windows 7 to display thumbnails, making it easier to import files with live galery.
Nightmare is back with ICS...How the *** do you remove the mtp crap? There's no pure storage connection mode now, is there?
To answer the above remarks, I don't want to drag/drop from a folder. I want to import with some sort of software, so that photos are auto-rotated / erased / tagged.
Cyanogenmod 9 is just perfect for photo import: it only scans the dcim folders and displays thumbnails when importing...unfortunately, I quite like stock ics and I'll only move back to CM9 with jelly bean or when Samsung forsakens us
Help?
Here it is, your posts are really confusing and everything but to the point
Thank you. Above post worked. Sorta. Thumbnails are back.
See screenshot for the mess I'm talking about (only 2 pics to import).

[Q] Share to a network drive? Possible?

Hi all,
Please can someone help with the below, I don't know if it's possible or not.
My idea is as follows:
I go into my gallery, click the sharing icon at the top, select a specified network drive and it copies the picture(s) to it. A simplified means of communication between my phone and home PCs.
My current way of doing this is using File Expert, I browse SMB shares on the network and select the folder on my laptop on one tab, I then go to the tab for my phone, go to the DCIM folder and select files, copy them then paste into the network drive.
My hope is to speed up this process, I take a photo, go to the gallery, share, select the icon for the share on my laptop and pictures are copied.
I know there's tons of variations such as Samba Share or connecting via USB, Kies etc on doing this but wondered if there is an app that can be configured in the way mentioned above at all that anyone knows of? Or if a sharing shortcut can in any way be created to do this?
From the gallery itself im not sure. Is it just the odd photo or all of them? If it's every photo, it can be even quicker with foldersync. Just set it to.sync on a schedule or on folder change (new photo) to your nas / computer.
Actually I use this to sync my entire sdcard overnight whilst I sleep. I may ditch it though and use tasker with scripts directly instead....
Apologies, I know this isn't what you asked for and if you don't want every photo on your pc - it's not a solution... however it would be better solution for all photos

Many thanks rootSU, I actually just downloaded something similar as I thought it would be a good idea to backup my pictures and videos on my PC anyway. I think that would work well as a solution

Date/time stamp issue when transferring vids/pics to computer. Help please.

Hi, i am having an issue when transferring my vids/pics from my Z2 to my PC.
On all my previous phones when transferring media to my PC it would be copied and labelled with a date stamp followed by a picture number- an example being 2014-01-13- 0123. This has always made organising and finding my pics/vids in there relavent folders an eay task.
The problem i am now faced with is when i transfer pics/vids from my Z2. The pictures are stamped with DSC_0001 for example and the videos with MOV_0001. This means when on my PC i have to examine each file individually to find out its date and time of origin.
Even more of an headache is everytime i have transferred files from my Z2 and then take more pics/vids and then try to transfer them to my PC the computer will not allow transfer as the stamp on the file i am transferring from my Z2 eg - DSC_0001 is already present on the PC from a previous transfer. This means i have to rename all the PC files first.
I hope this makes sense and hopefully there is an easy fix.
I am new to Android and overall i am very happy with the operating system, being a massive improvement generally over my previous phones. Fingers crossed this is down to my lack of knowledge and just involves a settings change somewhere.
Thanks in advance for any help.
When recording Videos or taking pictures, sony devices uses the univertal method of time stamping media,
It adds it to the properties of the file
There is no fix for such as far as i currently know, you kinda have to deal with this method of time stamping,
On your pc you can see this by right clicking on a video and clicking properties
Are you trying this app?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.inedev.renamer
This app have option that rename automatically all picture to date and year. Try it.
Send from my Sony Xperia Z2
link not working for me mate.

Click to collapse
Thank you for the reply, i think we may have crossed wires. The problem i am having is that the files on my sony Z2 are being labelled with numbers not dates - i.e DSC_0001 - 2/3/4/ etc for pics and MOV_0001 - 2/3/4/ etc for movies. When i transfer from my phone to the PC the process begins again from 0001 on my phone. Further transfers then tell me the file already exists on my PC and would i like to replace the original file with the new one.
If the phones was naming the pics/vids with the date and time or not reverting back to 0001 when transferred to my PC my problem would be solved.
Thanks again.

[Q] Any app to automatically copy new files (photos) to a network drive?

Hi guys,
I'm trying to get a lil' privacy here
I know right now it's rather hard, but I'm trying to take my steps. So far setting Seacloud with https and encryption on a 2TB HDD wasn't too hard. Problem is, it doesn't upload the phone pictures to the server, at the moment. A second solution would be to have an app to sync those pictures to a network drive, which is already on Seafile, and would be then automatically backed up. This could be done via SMB or SCP/SFTP. Do you know of any apps doing this, copying any new detected file within an specifed folder to a network share?
PS: Yeah yeah, I know owncloud does this out of the box. Their apps are far better for this, but the way they store their filesystem isn't very clean IMHO, so I preferred seacloud instead (owncloud uses normal files for its storage, which can lead to issues implementing file history, while seacloud uses a database structure).

Subfolders possible in DCIM-Folder?

Hello Community!
As everybody might know, the stock camera app saves taken pictures in the DCIM folder (phone memory or sd card - depending on the settings).
Unfortunately, photo files are becoming more and more in this folder, as Android does not create subfolders for every 100 photos or so.
I remember that nokia phones (with symbian) did create subfolders after 100 photos. That was waaayyy better, especially when you are entering the DCIM folder via PC. In Android, if you have many photos in the DCIM folder, it takes such a long time until all photos are displayed in the explorer and are accessible.
My question is: Does there exists a trick / tool / setting that allows Android to create subfolders in the DCIM folder automaticly?
Any help would be much appreciated, an approach without root would be prefered, but if neccesary I'm also interested in aproaches with root.
Hope someone might have some suggestions.
Greeting from Germany!
Hannes
