This is a noob question but is it possible to run two sense roms? Or make one into a launcher so you have to UIs?

You can run different launchers.
You can also run different roms as long as you do a nandroid backup and restore for each. But not at the same time.

You can't set the rom up as a launcher. Just run 1 rom with different launchers.
I noticed that you seem to be interested in Sense 3.5 so unless you are one of the lucky ones with s-off then you really can't nandroid back and forth to different roms. But to backup your rom use recovery to do your backup. That's nandroid.

if s-off is ever achieved there's always boot manager, suuuuuper unstable but lets you switch between roms after restarting (no nandroid restore necessary)

You are not obligated to root or use 3.5. The developers are working hard and providing these roms free of charge. If you do not like something please change back to stock or to another rom. There are no other options at this point, and devlopers cannot service to every single demand they get from 1000's of individuals. That being said, developers are probably waiting for ICS and the official 3.5 Sense UI to come out before creating new roms based on it.
THERE IS NO S-OFF, please read before posting Three stickies on top of the page all state there is way to obtain S-off, S-off is not available, only a few phones have been shipped with S-off and are very very very rare. If you want to become familiar with things you need to read, and stop asking hundreds of questions, I say that in a friendly way, because by asking questions that can already be answered and can be found either by search or by google or doing some research and trial and error on your own, you're going to piss a lot of people around here!!
thank you

Bliss sense 3.5 Has come out on the HTC Rhyme and Sense 3.5 Next Gen (NG) has arrived on the HTC ReZound 4 days before the amaze came out.................... That being said its not just me who wants a update on this rom. I personally like sense 3.5 It looks a lot better than 3.0. But sense 3.5 has been out officially by HTC for as old as the Amaze is. I'm just saying it would be nice to have the GPS working. So please don't tell me about my actions telling me that they are going to wait the Official sense 3.5 is out. I know when these UIs came so out so I think your should look at a the new ReZound on HTC so you can see it has 3.5 a Verizon phone. I simply looked for an alternative or looking to see if someone had a fix or possibly found a way to easily switch between two roms. Thank You Very MUCH.
Dreaming?
I have a dream... (yes, I watched too many of those video clips recently) and it's a wild one.
I wish to have iOS running on top of GB. We'd show it off to those snobby iPeople how smooth and fast it runs on the Amaze. And then, in front of their face, we return to GB saying, "I can't live with that clap!"
Seriously, we have so much space wasted on the device.

I know from my experience with G1, the AOSP GB (w/tiny GAPS) would fit in a 76mb system partition. That's 1/3 the available space on the Amaze! Wait! We don't even need free NAND space... The old HD2 could run Android entirely off the sdcard.
My dream is getting wilder, so please don't bash me even if I am totally wrong!
If we can engineer the second OS (Dalvik engin, I suppose) to run on top of the first, then we don't really need to patch the SPL, do we? I am thinking something like the way XP-mode runs on Win7. Or soft-reboot into different OS. The two OS instances even can share the same kernel if the two OS's we want can run on it.
Knowing nothing about how to implement it, I woke up to the reality: Yeah, my Amaze is still the best phone around!

I'm no devoloper but i have looked at the rom files and they come with a bunch of apks in them that get loaded on the phone. Just thinking if someone was to create an app that added your apps that you have in their you'd have that rom ready to go as soon as you loaded it. (Minus the missing contacts.) In addition to that you have an app that goes through the whole flashing prosses for you. Kernal and all. Just a thought but Idk I DIDN'T READ ANYTHING SO I DONT WANT TO PISS ANYONE OFF! But yeah thats my thought.

hi guys i am new here so please be kind =D
ok, so i have a t-mobile g2 which i got in february and have been waiting ever since for 2.1. i am tired of waiting and am also thinking that 2.1 is probably a waste and would rather root.
so heres what i am looking for in a custom rom: longer battery life, overclocking, something that dosent lag alot (sense dosent but it has its annoying moments, especially on the lock screen), ease of use. you get the idea.
now i have not done alot of research into the custom rom area so any suggestions would be great.
and a second question: what is the best and safest way to go about rooting?
cheers guys

Here is a guide for rooting and installing custom ROMs.
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=375&start=0
You will need gold card method iirc
VillainROM 10.3 with JIT and ninpo's bfs kernel is really fast. And you mention lock screens. Vr has stock android one too with selectable wallpaper and working alarm
cool, thanks will take a look at these cheers.

In my experiences with it it's the fastest official 2.1 ROM along with VillainROM (Cronos Droid is also based on it but MoDaCo is more "raw" (more official) if you can say that) but Cronos Droid is even faster because of Feeyos modified libraries MoDaCo is a bit more laggy at times but MCR 4 isn't released yet (it's only a RC i think?) so thats what you would expect... I think when MCR 4 is released it's probably as fast as Cronos Droid but for now I think Cronos Droid would be the best for you unless you are totally in to that shiny Legend/Desire kind of look (which Cronos Droid doesen't have) then i would recommend MoDaCo or VillainROM
ahhh cool, im not tooo bothered about the look as long as it runs well and gives me a bit better battery life. just a thought out of 10 what are the chances of bricking my phone?

Umm. I used modaco ages ago (about 7 months or so), but I don't really know what it's like these days.
I am actually one of the devs of VillainROM, so not really in any place to give a totally unbiased answer.
Basically, it depends on what you are after. If you are looking for the fastest ROM possible, then something like the new SuperHero, which we will be releasing in the next day or so, might be up your street. It's a cross between stock 'eclair android' and some little bits of HTC sense. So it has the speed of vanilla, with the little niceities of Sense.
If you're after a totally Vanilla ROM, there are some of them around too, often based on CyanogenMod. Look for the terms AOSP and Vanilla if you want one of these. Be aware they might lack some of the features you are used to currently, since HTC does add a fair bit of stuff on top of Android.
For the pure HTC Sense ROM, there are a good number of them out too, although I have to confess I have completely lost track of which ones are out there. There's one from 42turkeys I think, and modaco and cronos etc. although I can't really recommend any of them as I haven't used them.
If you are after the 'perfected theme', there's a VillainROM theme from petsasj over on www.villainrom.co.uk that finishes off some of the aesthetics of the ROM, as there are some little imperfections in HTC's release. If you pop over to the IRC channel (link on the homepage), someone will be able to answer any detailed questions you have with ROM etc.

Right. Bricking... Well, so long as you don't do anything stupid with your phone, like pulling battery, you should be fine. If you want someone to guide you through the process or answer any questions you have, pop onto the IRC i mentioned.
So long as you are careful, and follow the instructions to the letter, you should be absolutely fine
VillainROM has a few little extra kernels etc. and a couple of fixes on the Over-the-air updater app that might help you get some better performance and battery life too
Just ask if you need help

Course Pop in the goldcard and then use the RUU (stock HTC ROM exe file) to restore back to the the factory condition
Fast is good for me too VR10.3 with ninpo's BFS kernel and 729MHz Overclock is good enough for me
im sure im gonna go with a villain rom as it has one of the clearest guides i have seen, plus i have the sdk and that stuff for the gold card thing. when is superhero out then seen as that is the fastest? gonna read it through a couple more times aswell so that i can really get to grips with what to do =]

The link isn't working for me either but I don't know anyone who has used the 'one click' methods.
I highly recomend BTDAG's guide linked in my sig (its the same guide as on Villain site) , you will get support if there is something you don't understand or if something unexpected happens. Read the whole thing through 1st, then start from the top.
arrgghh, just annoyed, cus it was working earlier. oh well. and yeah, will just have to follow the other one. i just liked the idea of a one click method. cheers =]

p.s. I advise using an XP machine, drivers for Windows 7 are a *****.

maybe after they finish the port on Nexus S, currently on 0.2 working
If you really want Sense that bad, maybe you should go with the HTC Sensation..? It's just as good as the SGS2 (Spec wise)
i am about to buy a new phone and am stuck on this very question
is the s2 going to get a sense ROM???
the original galaxy s still doesnt have a fully functional sense ROM
I have to purchase my phone within the week and the sensation will not be available before mid june
Sure it's possible but I'd imagine it would be a fair bit of work. Hopefully once this phone hits more markets we'll get a few more devs to work on projects like these

I'm not sure why you'd purchase a GSII if you want Sense. To answer your question, the only way to KNOW the GSII is going to get the ROM is to make it yourself. None of us on here can tell you it will happen, or won't happen, with any certainty. It seems extremely unlikely to me though, as most seem to either be satisfied with TouchWiz 4.0 or are interested in something more AOSP-y.
Why can't you wait an extra week or 2 for the Sensation? That seems a much better option for you.

You can make the phone look like sense... With launcher pro plus and a sense mod you can find on this forum. Launcher pro plus has the same look for the widgets, like friendstream.
The sense mod had the sense themes, the dock and so on...
With widgetlocker you can get the sense lockscreen.

I always thought that XDA-Dev is about doing such things, just because you can, not because you need it.
It is, but some people seem to forget that. They also can't think beyond two feet in front of them either, so you will have to remember that when you listen to/read what others have to say.

I'm not doubting that. But remember how much work it is to port something like Sense, and that work needs to be coupled with a desire to do it by someone with a lot of talent. The SGSII may get a stable Sense port, it's entirely possible. But look at the progress made on the original SGS. Last time I looked it was alpha stuff that really wasn't all there yet, and that device has been out a year now. No one should be making any kind of decision on the SGSII with the hope that Sense will be ported.

True, but one can always ask right? Or if you have the tools and knowledge, you can chip in and help to find a solution if it exists. I didn't buy my SGSII in hopes of getting a sense port, but wondering if it was possible shouldn't get me or anyone else flamed for asking either.

You're not getting flamed. There's just an inordinate number of threads asking about Sense on the GSII, and the answer is pretty easy. It's definitely possible, why wouldn't it be, when it's one Android build to another? The real question to answer is...is how difficult will it be and is it likely to happen. I gave you my opinion. If you disagree or don't like it that's fine, it's just my opinion

I'm glad you presented it as your opinion, and you're right in that I can agree or disagree with it. But you aren't the type of person I was referring to. I can respect anyone that presents their case in a clear and concise manner, but I have no respect for people that do nothing but interject with nothing pertinent to add to the discussion. All they do is spout off their opinion like it's gospel and you should agree with them, and if you don't, then you're an idiot.

would u mind if u tell me which are senseless and which one have sense ( the ones that have HTC sense on them) plz
thanks in advance : )
What do you mean by "top rom"? The most downloaded? The latest software? The fastest?
Either way, like I tell everyone who asks this, there is no "best rom" for everyone. Everyone has different needs/wants in a rom. The beauty of rooting is you can try out a rom for a few days, and if you don't like it, flash another. Just try out a few and see what you like.

They are fast, stable and good on the battery.
Also, great dev support.

I don't think he was saying that viperROM doesn't have good support, but rather that MeanROM does have great support.
I have been using Fresh. I don't know if it is the best or even good. It works well for me and I need my phone for grown-up (work) things, so I don't have time to try them all out. I wish someone would tell me which one is great and uses sense and has the most going for it.
Lol stock builds you tend to squeeze some nice battery life from. But again it boils down to what the op prefers.
Nothin is top lol. Most devs offer support if you get stuck . I offer help on my own builds or to whoever needs help . I bounce around here.
Most builds have dates that tell you how new it is. If you go to a overclocked rom your battery life won't be the best. Just depends on what you want.

The dev will tell you this in the first post of every rom thread.

You're asking us to go research every ROM for 2011 and 2012 and rank them in order for the 3d? Sorry brah. You could probably take a good guess by clicking on the development section, and see which ones are constantly posted to (popularity), which translates to downloads.
I'm running mean ROM n boy I love it!!!!! Tried many ROMS out there but none fit me., this one did the job! It's fast! Stable! And good battery life ....sometimes lol
1013forever ill love her!*
I think everybody is looking for a little wondering different in a ROM, so the answer to your question is 100% subjective.
After I rooted my 3vo, I flashed a new ROM nearly every 1-2 weeks, looking for that "perfect" ROM.
I have found two that I like enough to hold onto:
CleanRom
Viper
Just for the record, there are many ROMs I have not tried, so that's not to say there aren't others just as good.

There isn't a good way to find that answer since every rom is downloaded a insane amount and no one keeps track of downloads.... Devs are too busy whippin new things up
I agree with everyone and no one. MIUI is pretty popular I personally know about 15 people who are running that. Viper is another good one. Until we get something like Google Play for ROM's no one will ever know the answer. I have seen several blogs and what not that are titled something like "MOST POPULAR ROM's" but after reading them it would seem that they are ALL based on opinion and nothing more. I use more broken ROM's then ones where everything works so if there where a pole that met your criteria I wouldn't even be able to vote!
Which that the admins would start tracking the download and views it would make it so much easier to search
Remember when I had my hacked PSP I used to search themes and other stuff and there where all organize by popularity. Download times. Ect

That isn't necessarily possible because ROMs are uploaded to different sites, servers, etc. Some show download counts like dev-host
So I had my iPhone 4S (Jailbroken of course) for about a year and i got bored with it. Once my upgrade came I decided to give Android a try.
I need to know everrrrrryyyy thing about the Android. (not literally)
I think im rooted already, here are some screen shots to see what I am working with. (Got the phone 2 days ago)
I also am not sure if I am flashing the ROM's correctly, in my about it says i have Stock with Goodies ROM (downloaded here) but some of the features are missing, like landscape rosie and the power down options for recovery.
I also have no freaking clue what S-OFF and S-ON is so could someone explain that to me,
And
I also see alot of mods being implmented by txt editors codes n such, replacement of codes. Can I get a brief on that as well?
I really need gudiance, I did everything on my own and im not sure if I did any of it correctly. Ive been reading that MeanROM ICS is popular I had it but I switched to stock goodies.
My task list is as follows,
Install Stock ROM,
LazyPanda S-OFF,
ROOT,
Remove Tampered,
Install MeanROM ICS
How Do I acomplish this ^ in the correct order, from where im standing in my screenshots but note in the bootloader screenshot mine is UNLOCKED not locked
Here is a good introductory tutorial on the evo lte and android in general (thank om4):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869377
It looks like your bootloader was unlocked at one point and then relocked. The good news is you have the right hboot version for s-off (1.12) so you should do that first. You'll need to do it with a ROM that's a 1.12 or 1.13 base though (not sure what base stock w/ goodies 2.16 is), so if that's not what you're currently running you'll need to unlock the bootloader first and flash one (like Fresh 5.1.1). S-off will give you full access to the phone's internal memory and allow you to flash anything, whereas only unlocking the bootloader and remaining s-on has some limitations. Read the first couple of posts in this thread to learn how:

I agree. I went as far as starting a new line on my account and letting my roommate get a GS3 with it. He was such an IPhone lover to the max.
I rooted his Sammy (technically mine) and showed him how to flash ROMs, nandroid (backup up ROMs, for Op) and install themes, put apps in system, ect, and everything else you can do with an android. He loves that he made the switch and can't believe how much he was missing. He sends me new threads and gets so excited to show me his latest mods, ROMs, tweaks, ect.
Welcome to the world of android my friend. Love when I see someone who actually had an open mind and decided to try android. There's so much your gonna love and so much you can do with android.
You came to the right place with your questions and it looks like your questions have been answered already. You'll find we are a very close knit supportive community and just about anyone will help you with anything.
My biggest advice would be to read read read. That's what I did when I first started rooting phones years ago. I can't stand Apple, not only their stuff, but the Corporate bully that is Apple, only 500 billion in the bank for a rainy day, must be nice.
Android rules, but the best part of it is the support you find here. If you would like some color on your phone, I have 3 themes on evo 4g lte forum under the themes/apps section, I bet you can't do that with a rotton apple lol
I'm contemplating getting this phone, and being fully-rooted with s-off is a very important part of a phone experience for me. I have read a lot of threads saying that the s-off is "in the works, and will just take time", but are people being overly optimistic? Is it too good to be true considering that no modern HTC device without an SD card has achieved s-off, or do the developers actually feel like they're making headway? Finally, if s-off is never achieved, what kind of features would we be missing compared to an s-off device?
By the way, I would really like to thank the dev's for working so hard on the root and s-off. Its amazing what they've accomplished in such a short time.
TL;DR: Are the s-off rumors overly optimistic?

Worse case scenario, you will have to flash kernels through fastboot, and you will have limited access to /system. So yeah, we are all hoping for s-off, but we can still do quite a bit even if we are stuck with s-on.

Is this entirely necessary? As far as I can tell full read/write access is achieved in recovery. Really it's kind of nice because if something blows up or you get some malicious app that claims to require root, you're safe. While the option would be nice to have, I don't really think we're limited at all as things are right now. It just takes a couple more steps.

Funny....I remember a couple months ago when people were saying the exact same phrase in the d2vzw forums. We are all sharing the same optimistic thoughts.....but in the back of our minds, we all know its a load of sh*t.....we want s-off, trust me.

Do not buy a device based on what may be possible in the future. Buy it based on what is possible now. If s-off is important to you, then you do not want the DNA at this time. If you can live with the limitations, then go for it, but be careful not to turn into one of the disgruntled owners because you really wanted s-off and believed the rumors that it is "coming soon".
The kernal flashboot problem has been bypassed on the EVO 4g LTE I'm sure the devs can make their kernals S-On friendly. As far as S-On vs S-Off on the EVO there isn't much except for flashing unsigned radios through the bootloader

there are significant differences on this phone between dev unlocked and s-off (for those on pre release units that were lucky enough)
kernels: atm, s-off can flash in recovery, unlock in hboot (yes scripts can be done, but still)
radios: no-go on dev unlock, yes on s off
reverting to older RUU's: well none exist currently, but s off can, dev unlock cant
splash images: cosmetic, sure...but not possible on dev unlock
updating/reverting other firmware: only possible to update through a signed RUU for non s-off folks...s off folks can revert or update with just parts of the RUU that are extracted
/system access: only possible in recovery for those with dev unlock, s off can access it in android....this might not seem like a big deal to the average user...but for devs?, pretty horrid....for example, if i want to mod Rosie for some reason (landscape, app drawer, cosmetic, whatever) typically i can just adb push the apk and test it....now i'll have to boot to recovery, push the apk, reboot to android to test it (a lot more time consuming and annoying)

I have nothing to do with s-off. I'd wait for hyuh and/or fuses to say something.
I really wouldn't buy a phone based on what you're hoping for. If s off is that important for you, I wouldn't buy it. All that does is lead to a lot of disappointments and complaining honestly. I see a whole lot of posts and entire threads on the forums where people are posting complaints about model xyz phone not having updates fast enough or not being s off, not having a different OS/UI working without bugs yet, things like that.
Buying something on hopes and dreams is a mistake in my opinion, and if fastboot flashing kernels and not having splash screens is important to you, I would buy a different phone now and get the DNA after it's s off. Any rumors or speculation that you hear is just that. The guys who are really working on it wont be posting about it much because even in a best case scenario, things change mid development as progress is made.

Is anyone able to remove bloatware from their DNA? This revert back issue with s-on seems to prevent it.
You have to unlock it, install a recovery, root it, and you can install a debloated stock Rom or a custom Rom.
