sooo, ive got a couple of hundred £s and im looking at tablets
now i can get a sub £200 7" android 3.0 tablet, 1ghz, 8gb ram, wifi, mini usb, hdmi, 3g, microsd
or i can go £200 10.1", android 2.3, 1ghz, 8gb ram, wifi, mini usb, hdmi, 3g, microsd

My recent blog post my help you choose a bit. I concentrated on 7" ones cause plan to buy one.
And tablet running 2.3 can be updated to newer versions if there will be vendor (or community) update.

Simple rule: avoid devices which do not have subforum here at XDA

this is all messed up! i can now find the same spec 7" for £150! the price range seems to be £60, £150, £450!
starting to love the galaxy tab 10.1 mind, but this seems to be the top end, and it seems a bit like buying a top end dell... it may be supercharged, but its still a dell!

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

[Q] Need Custom Android 2.3 ROM. Get 50 Google+ Invites

Hi Folks. In return for helpful suggestions to my questions below, I'm giving away 50 Google+ invites.
I'm just getting ready for a trip to Europe and would like to upgrade the default Android 2.3 on my new tablet from China. The existing Android 2.3 on it is designed for mobile phones and is also clunky. I know Android 2.3 is only designed for mobile phones, and Android 3.x will be for tablets (and is not yet released by Google to everyone), but I wanted to see if there is a custom Android 2.3 ROM I could use that's better than the stock one and works better for a tablet, and also has less mobile phone processes running, e.g. I had to install a free app to put the darn thing into "Airplane Mode" (which turned off a lot of the mobile phone processes) and still use Wi-Fi, which increased the battery life by 300% !!
So, my Android 7" tablet specs are:
- full details at: www[dot]techtoys2go[dot]com/quicksilver
- Operating System: Android 2.3.3, Kernel version 2.6.35.7
- Processor: Telechips TCC8803 1.2GHz
- Screen: 7", 800*480 multi-touch
- Touchscreen: capacitive (I did NOT buy the cheaper resistive version)
- Memory: 512MB DDR3
- Storage: 4GB built in
- Card Reader: microSD up to 32GB
- Audio: speaker, phones, mic
- Other Ports: miniHDMI, miniUSB
- Webcam: VGA front facing
- 3G Network: 3G ready, external dongle
- Wi-Fi: 802.11b/g
- G Sensor: yes
- Battery: 3.7v 3600mAh lithium
Which custom Android 2.3 ROM do you think will work on this and is good? Help me out guys, I need an answer quick so I can root/burn this sucker in the next few days before my trip on Monday. First 50 cool responses get a Google+ invite Hope that's tempting enough. LOL
Cheers
Steve
You should take a look over on Android Tablet Forum, they have sections for a lot of Chinese Tablets:

Thanks Killall. I took a look, but didn't see anything useful there. Cheers
Well, it seems there is a nice looking ROM specifically for these cheap Chinese tablets. I'm not sure if it will work on my 7" Android tablet, but I guess the only way to find out is to try it. If anyone has any suggestions before I try it, let me know:

I am very clued up so any advice or explanation or directions will be useful
cheers
I don't think so. It's one of those obscure tablets that no one has really heard about. It has a unique processor b/c it's custom made by that company and dont't think anybody has worked on it.
If you are looking for a good, rooting tablet, try the Nexus 7.
Thanks for the advice. I only got this to kind of introduce me to the Tablet world. The Nexus 7 is definitely on my top must have

There might be a way to do it. I know my friend got a cheap $80 tablet off of Amazon that just said Google on the back. It had no brand name what so ever on it. It turned out to be a wondermedia wm 8600 or something like that running some hacked gingerbread version with a fake market. It had an old touch screen, not even capacitive. I found a tool designed to root it and put official market on it and everything, and it worked for like 50 different models that were similar. It didn't make it great, but it worked better and at least had the official market. Maybe there is something like that for yours.
I can't think of the name of the program, but try looking at your model number info and try searching for that specific on Google. You never know what you might find.

ROM for crappy tablet

I bought a cheap tablet and by far this is my worst buy ever. :crying:
It's the Energy Sistem S10 (not the dual one)
For a cheap tablet I don't expect good performance but you can't believe how unstable this @%! is !!!
I feel like I'm using a PC with Windows Me.
And tech support is... well.
To the point:
The tablet is rooted and I hope that a new ROM will solve the stability issues but really I don't know how to determine if a ROM is compatible with my tablet.
Please direct me how to find and determine if a ROM is the one. If you know a specific ROM for the tablet then I'll be more than happy.
The higher version of Android the better but I'm conscious about the poor specifications, however, version 4.1 is enough for me.
TIA and those are the relevant specifications:
Screen: TFT-LCD 10.1" 16:9 (1024x600 pixels)
WI-FI (802.11 b/g/n)
Processor: Allwinner A10 1.0GHz with Mali-400 built-in GPU
1GB RAM DDR3
Internal storage: 8 GB
Built-in front camera (VGA 640x480)
Built-in back camera (2 Mpx) Yes, 2 Mpx
USB-Host adapter
HDMI interface (1080p)
If it's not made for your tablet it's incompatible. Even if it has exactly the same hardware. If you are currently running at least ICS, it's not impossible to make an update. If you aren't however, you're just out of luck.

OK, thanks for the info.
Actually my tablet have ICS 4.0.4 and the manufacturer promised an update to 4.1 since march but looks like it was a joke. Anyway, I guess an update from them will be very unstable too.
I will investigate about how to make an update.
Thanks again.

[Q] Android 4.4 on Pandigital Supernova

Hey all. I am really new to the forum so I apologize if this is posted in the wrong place. There seems to be a million places this could get posted so Ill post here to start off!
My gf's mother gave her this cheap tablet called the Supernova from Pandigital. As some of you might now, Pandigital went out of business so there is no support for this tablet. It is still running android 2.3.1. I read that andoird 4.4 only needs 512mb of RAM and felt like it is the perfect opportunity to upgrade this tablet. My gf gave it to me to tinker with so I would love to get KitKat on it!
So i guess my question is how can I start learning more about installing android on devices so I can possibly put it on this tablet? Also where is the best place to post about this device.
Tablet Specs:
Screen: 600x800 7or8in
OS: Android 2.3.1
RAM: 512mb
Memory: 4gb
Ext. Memory: 16gb Micro SD card
Proccessor: Samsung S5PV210
CPU Type: ARM Coretex-A8
CPU Speed: 1.06GHz
GPU: Unknown
Bluetooth: 2.1
Wifi: 802.11 b/g/n
Almost 80 people have viewed this post and no one has responded. Can someone at least point me in the right direction of learning how to install or modify android to work with this device? Or even the basic tutorials that can help me learn about coding for android and making this work.

[Q] Need Help, Which Android tablet is better?

I am looking for a tablet for my family member but as there are many models with different features and sometime they overlap each other. Also price is a concern as I have budget of up to $160 (+/- $10).
As I search on net for tablets, lot of Chinese tablet came up with the price around my budget and many less than that. I summed up my search to Ainol tablets including Ainol Venus and Discover. But as I read the reviews regarding both tabs as well as other Ainol tabs, it seem as there is falling trend of quality or maybe they had such experience from having Ainol tablets.
So it would be very helpful if someone guide me in choosing a tablet from Ainol Venus or Discover or maybe better than both within my budget. Also there's another tab, Pipo S3 tablet as it is Dual Core whereas the above tabs are Quad Core. This is the another factor which made me confuse to decide for a tab. Either should I go for Dual Core or Quad Core? Please guide.
Tab with these features would be better:
7 or 8 inch, IPS screen would be plus, 16:9 screen ratio would be better, 1 GB or 2 GB DDRam, 16 GB internal memory, no GSM/3G required, bluetooth would be plus, dual camera (regardless of megapixels), Android 4.1/4.2, HDMI output, OTG port
Thanks in advance.
