I am looking for a tablet for my family member but as there are many models with different features and sometime they overlap each other. Also price is a concern as I have budget of up to $160 (+/- $10).
As I search on net for tablets, lot of Chinese tablet came up with the price around my budget and many less than that. I summed up my search to Ainol tablets including Ainol Venus and Discover. But as I read the reviews regarding both tabs as well as other Ainol tabs, it seem as there is falling trend of quality or maybe they had such experience from having Ainol tablets.
So it would be very helpful if someone guide me in choosing a tablet from Ainol Venus or Discover or maybe better than both within my budget. Also there's another tab, Pipo S3 tablet as it is Dual Core whereas the above tabs are Quad Core. This is the another factor which made me confuse to decide for a tab. Either should I go for Dual Core or Quad Core? Please guide.
Tab with these features would be better:
7 or 8 inch, IPS screen would be plus, 16:9 screen ratio would be better, 1 GB or 2 GB DDRam, 16 GB internal memory, no GSM/3G required, bluetooth would be plus, dual camera (regardless of megapixels), Android 4.1/4.2, HDMI output, OTG port
Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to decide on a tablet for myself.
Thought about the nook but the 7" screen dissuaded me.
Specs:
G http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet/spec.htm
10s http://ap.viewsonic.com/za/products/viewpad/viewpad10s/specs.php
Now I'm down to the G Tablet ($360) and the ViewPad 10s ($399)
10s to GTablet Comparison: (legend: + Pro, - Con, ? unknown)
+ seems to have a better screen (larger viewing angles)
+ HDMI port
- 512MB internal flash (not too bad if apps2sdext is possible)
- Lesser capacity battery (3300 vs 3650 mAh)
? developer support ? will there be a xda forum and support (ROMs)
Other questions:
The 10s has an accelerometer (g-sensor)
Does the G Tablet have an Accelometer? Magnetometer (compass)?
Please help me decide. thanks.
Yes accelerometer, no magnetometer.
Doesn't the 10s have 3G connectivity as well as GPS? GPS would be nice to have, but not a necessity. And the 3G connection is a bit of overkill unless you're traveling all the time. Pretty hard to find a place nowadays without wifi.
From what I've heard, the screen in the 10s is the same as the gtablet. Or at least shares the same viewing angle concerns.
Also, I'm not sure where you're posting from, but the 10s is a Eurpoean model. but I'm sure you can get it on ebay for the US.
Thanks for your answers.

I dont need 3G coz my Nexus can tether for free , same reason I dont need another GPS too.
JR.com is taking pre-orders
http://www.jr.com/viewsonic/pe/VIW_VIEWPAD10S/
I'm pretty confused....
So from the hours of research that I have done, from what I understand (and correct me if i'm wrong) there are 3 tablets coming out from Viewsonic. . . The Viewpad 10, Viewpad 10s (European and Asian markets), and a Viewpad 10 Pro.
From what I have read, the 10 Pro will also be dual boot, Windows 7 and Android 2.2. The one thing that confuses me besides all of the mixed information out there, is that....
1) Android 2.2 will be native (dual boot).
2) Android 2.2 will "work within a VM" which is launched within Windows 7.
Has anyone else closely researched Viewsonic's new tablet lineup?
Thanks.
The major difference between the G Tablet and Viewpad is CPU. For G Tablet we have Tegra2 which will be a reference design for Android 3. Viewpad should be using Intel Atom CPU to be able to run Windows7. I think it will have much worse support from xda. So if you want Windows and terrible battery live - choose Viewpad. If you want Android 3 Honeycomb - G Tablet.

Wrong...
The 10S version of the viewpad has a tegra cpu just like the gtablet..Some places are actually calling it a gtab2 and/or the euro gtab only because it has a few additional features but supposedly a similar screen... maybe these links will help. Good luck, hope this all helps.

So, in essence the 10S is the same as the gTab with a few extra features at roughly the same price...

I wouldn't go with the x86 tablet. Just about all current Android devices are ARM CPU based and ANY apps that make use of the native development environment just won't work on non-ARM CPUs. (Actually I'm guessing that most devs will restrict to ARMv7 anyways -> cortex-a8 & -a9 based systems only but these are the only ones worth buying anyways...)
I wonder why they kneecapped internal storage for the 10s? I read this a while back and IIRC it said 4GB at that time... About the only thing that I'd like from it is higher cap batt... be even better if it was 5k but...

That is correct, and also the reason why I would like to go with one of these Viewpads that can boot (or VM) Windows 7 and Android 2.2
I haven't posted much (so i'm restricted) on here otherwise I would add a few links to the demonstrations I have seen on the 'tube. If you do a search for Viewpad 10 pro, you will see Android being launched in a VM of sorts. It's very interesting to me.
I think ya'll are confusing your models so here's a breakdown to clear things up a little.
Viewpad 10 = Intel CPU with Windows and Android OS (dual-boot)
Viewpad 10 Pro = Intel CPU running Windows primarily with the capability of launching Android from a VM within Windows
Viewpad 10S = Tegra CPU running only Android OS
The OP is asking about the 10S not the other models that ya'll keep confusing into the mix. The 10S, like I said before, is basically a gTab with a few extra features but smaller internal storage for roughly the same price. I hope this clears things up a bit.

Looking at the picture of the 10s leads me to believe the screen is no better than the gtablet. It has the same frame around it. And from the internal pictures/write-ups I've seen on the gtablet there has always been plenty of room left for them to simply "upgrade" it a little with 3G and GPS.
I did a lil research too. I saw videos of it at CES and the viewing angles looks the same as g tablet video I saw. My g tablet coming in soon but I dont know if I should refuse the shipment and wait for viewpad 10s.
So far 10s has
hdmi
2x usb port
glossy back.
buttons disappear on the front with return button near power on the side
2 models: 3g+GPS or Wifi only
g-tablet over 10s is
bigger battery
buttons
cheaper
The screen looks the same. The people did the viewpad 10s video didnt even mention anything about g-tablet or about the viewing angle. Anyone have info on this?
Glossy back is a down if you're like me and OCD about prints on your electronics.
G Tablet
I went and looked at one, and the screen is definitely a concern to me. Are there any versions of these that don't have the screen like that? Dark when you look at it from an angle top pointed away? I see its sort of backwards, and looks brighter when the top is pointed towards you. Very odd.
Guys, with the $50 off coupon today I had no choice but to get the Nook Color.
Can always gift it to family later
Thanks for your input, the discussion can continue!.

sooo, ive got a couple of hundred £s and im looking at tablets
now i can get a sub £200 7" android 3.0 tablet, 1ghz, 8gb ram, wifi, mini usb, hdmi, 3g, microsd
or i can go £200 10.1", android 2.3, 1ghz, 8gb ram, wifi, mini usb, hdmi, 3g, microsd
now, should i go smaller screen, v3 android, or v2 larger screen...
...can (if the hardware supports it) v2.3 be updated to v3.0 later?
thanks!
I think that no tabled have 8 GB of ram. Most have 8 of internal memory.

My recent blog post my help you choose a bit. I concentrated on 7" ones cause plan to buy one.
And tablet running 2.3 can be updated to newer versions if there will be vendor (or community) update.

Simple rule: avoid devices which do not have subforum here at XDA
this is all messed up! i can now find the same spec 7" for £150! the price range seems to be £60, £150, £450!
starting to love the galaxy tab 10.1 mind, but this seems to be the top end, and it seems a bit like buying a top end dell... it may be supercharged, but its still a dell!

Any help is greatly appreciated. I am looking at getting the Ainol Novo 7 Elf, does anyone have any info on that if I'm lucky enough to get that?
Thanks in advance.
The ELF is a great Tablet for its price. I own one since a week. There are also some great ROMS out there. I flashed Feiyu Mod now i have full Market accses. And the touchscreen is also much more responsive.

The elf doesn't have full market access right out of box? I plan on getting mine off eBay once I get rid of this no namer I have. Glad to hear there are some roms for it.

Specs sound good
I don't know how much developer attention this is going to see. Less popular tablets don't get the mods & roms the touchpad, xoom, galaxy, transformer & all get.
It looks like a real sweet tablet for the price. My ballpark number is under 190 bucks and all the ones you listed below I've done searches on and I can't see paying pass 200 dollars for I would love the galaxy 2, that seems nice as well but it's over how much I'm willing to spend.
Maybe one day something will be out for it. I can buy an elf for 164.95 which isn't bad with the 1024x600 screen and 1gb of ram..
Is there other tablets out there I am missing under 190 dollars that I am not seeing which would be better than the Elf?

Hey guys just wondering, i just bought a new tablet from amazon , the TABTRONICS 8GB M009S 7" Capacitive Android tablet PC (link http://www.amazon.co.uk/TABTRONICS-...tablet/dp/B006T099XE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top )
here is the spec-
CPU : A10 1.2 GHz
Graphics Processor : Mali 400 MHz
Touchscreen : 5 point multi touch capacitive
resolution 800 x 480
Operating System : Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Memory : 1GB RAM DDR3 / 8GB NAND FLASH STORAGE
Flash - upgradeable by Micro SD memory card (max 16GB) WiFi : 802.11 b/g/n
I am wondering if it is possible to root this device ,with it running 4.0 being a bit harder, i own an xperia play so i know a thing or 2 about this device , but my questions lay with what method is best , what if there is any device usb files i can use for it and also what roms are comapitble ?
I am very clued up so any advice or explanation or directions will be useful
cheers
I don't think so. It's one of those obscure tablets that no one has really heard about. It has a unique processor b/c it's custom made by that company and dont't think anybody has worked on it.
If you are looking for a good, rooting tablet, try the Nexus 7.
Thanks for the advice. I only got this to kind of introduce me to the Tablet world. The Nexus 7 is definitely on my top must have

There might be a way to do it. I know my friend got a cheap $80 tablet off of Amazon that just said Google on the back. It had no brand name what so ever on it. It turned out to be a wondermedia wm 8600 or something like that running some hacked gingerbread version with a fake market. It had an old touch screen, not even capacitive. I found a tool designed to root it and put official market on it and everything, and it worked for like 50 different models that were similar. It didn't make it great, but it worked better and at least had the official market. Maybe there is something like that for yours.
I can't think of the name of the program, but try looking at your model number info and try searching for that specific on Google. You never know what you might find.
