Q: Samsung Stock Music Player Playlists - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know where the Samsung stock music player saves its playlists... When I restore the music app from titanium backup it doesn't restore the playlists. I tried searching in my nandroid backup for any playlists files and I can't seem to find any.

From a quick look around, they seem to be in the SQLite DB inside Media Storage (com.android.providers.media) in the music_audio_playlists and music_audio_playlists_map tables.

Can you explain how I can find those map tables and how I can restore playlists files from previous Cwm backups
Thank you for the reply

After I'd written the below, I figured there's probably a better solution. You should be able to just restore your Media Storage from Titanium Backup and you'll be all set (to find it, just filter "media"). You can safely ignore the rest, I'm just leaving it there since I already wrote it and it should be still technically correct.
The data is there in your CWM backup (data.ext4.tar\data\com.android.providers.media\databases\(either internal or external)\music_audio_playlists (and music_audio_playlists_map), but I think you're not comfortable with SQL judging by your reply.
The most straightforward solution I can think of for you without touching anything technical would be to make a nandroid backup of your current position, then restore your backup which contains your playlists. Use an app to backup your playlists for you (from a quick look, several backup managers include this function, including MyBackup Root), keep a copy of that backup somewhere, then restore your nandroid backup followed by your playlists backup.
If all that sounds like too much work, you could PM me your com.android.providers.media backup and I'll try and give you an SQL command to import it.

Thank you so much. I will definitely experiment with this and get back to you soon.

I have tried both methods and it works well. I can't thank you enough for your help

[Q] Playlist Backup???

I know that there is probably a very simple solution to my problem, but I have yet to find it on our forums...
How do I, when flashing a new ROM, save a backup of my playlists in Music Player? I can't seem to find the files where they are saved in order to copy them and re-install them once my device is restored. I love experimenting with new software, but this is getting very old having to re-create all my lists every time I flash.
Help, anyone?
Instead of creating playlists on your phone, do it on MediaMonkey so you can just sync it when you put a new rom on.

I've never used that app before, but I'll try it out. Thanks!
Titanium Backup will backup/restore your playlists.

[Q] Saving apps to Sd2/ext-sd ... Backup Q

I recently got App2sd and noticed it doesn't save them to the ext-sd/sdcard2 just to sdcard ... is there a way to do this or does everyone just use Titanium Back Up pretty much
edit: I also hear that it isn't good to use TBU restore when flashing a new rom ... can a dev enlighten me if you have some time or someone who knows about this.
Thanks!
DOUBLE EDIT:
What do you use to backup/restore YOUR vigor?
I use titanium backup. I back up all apps and use it to restore apps only first, then only restore data on key apps like list mgr pro, acar, and my games. The main concern with restoring backups is to not do a batch backup and to never restore data on a system app, because the code can change from build to build.
what do y'all use to backup pictures and some messages.. or do you just manually move them to ext-sd with a root explorer or similar thing...
sorry trying to figure out the best way to do all this back up stuff
As far as messages I have SMS Backup + because it does a backup to your gmail account, then I just dump my pictures into "box" which has a special going on for 50 gigs of cloud storage for life just for signing up (only until 03/26/12).

I could be wrong but i believe there used to be a a2sd script you could flash from recovery to move dalvik to the sd card partition. Has that been abandoned?

[Q] very random question about Nandroid backups

Is it possible to dig through the backup and recover the text messages from it?
Nandroid backup doesn't backup messages. U should have done it using apps like go backup.
life!
if you do a restore to a backup the messages from that point are there. Ive done that before to recover some that I forgot to back up for my girlfriend in the past.

A nandroid is a complete image of your device. Messages, call logs, wifi settings etc are in the image. That's why it's called backup.
The titanium backup pro version lists that it can restore from nandroids, but I've never tested it. The play store has some on- device nandroid browser apps; xda has threads about how to mount and open the image files here. (Can't link to them, tapatalk limited)

I've tested it and it works very well. It displays all the apps in the nandroid and you can specify which ones to restore and whether or not you want the app or just the data.
So, yeah it can...

Technically yes. But it's not straight forward.
First, you need to mount the img file of datadata or data (depending upon what is there in your nandroid backup) using yaffs / ext4 mount tools, the actual file that stores the text messages is in /data/data
Once you've the datadata file system mounted, you need to look for the database file that stores the messages - i think its called smsmms.db or something like that. This is an SQLite database file.
Use any SQLite viewer to open the db file and look at the tables and contents to get the messages. You can google for this part - there might be tools/scripts to extract the messages from db file into text files / import formats of popular backup tools
Some parts might change between versions of android, my data is from ICS
Awww sorry about that.! I thought it didn't!
life!
Thank you so very much everyone! That is exactly what I needed.

[Q]Help! Titanium Backup and Hexmob Recovery undelete?

You guys can laugh at my misfortune, but I need your help. A customer needed some work done that required downgrading his OS. So before doing so I used titanium backup to back everything up...to the INTERNAL SD!
Yeah one star TiBu, two thumbs way down. Why the heck would you default to the internal storage rather than the EXTERNAL? I guess it is my fault for not checking the location of the backup but I also did not expect the internal storage to be erased when flashing via Clockworkmod and Odin. I also did some OTA updates during my troubleshooting, this particular issue was very stubborn. Somewhere in there the backups were entirely erased.
Anyway, I used Hexmob Recovery Pro to backup the deleted files, hoping to salvage the apps and other user data. Well I got over five thousand files and they're all named like this:
f6826096.xml
f6826112.sqlite
f3946400.png
f6841912.txt
etc
This would be very handy if they were just pictures and other documents, but they're supposed to be a backup compatible with Titanium Backup. I tried to go to settings > preferences > backup folder location > detect > whole device. It didn't find anything. I tried manually adding all the files into the backup location that is listed by default, and they did not show up. I tried to force close titanium backup to force it to check the folder again. Without Titanium Backup able to recognize the files, none of them are going to do me any good. So:
How is a titanium backup structured? Can I make these files conform to that format so some of the user data can go back on?
Would anyone (via PM/e-mail) like to look at some of these files to help me identify if they belong to a backup? Most are XML or TXT files, which look like property lists?
How long is this process going to take? I think the customer's data may not be important but I promised I would not erase anything.

[Q] Backing up specific .APK files?

Hi all,
I have a number of paid and other apps I want to make a physical backup with on my computer. I'd like to try to figure out what the .apk filename is, but the filenames are confusing and not relevant to the app that they represent. I have a Titanium backup as well as a nandroid backup, but again the filenames are not intuitive enough to figure out, and the nandroid backup is a gigantic 900mb compressed image.
That said, is there a way to figure out which filename.apk relates to which actual app?
Thanks,
Opethfan89
I'm not sure exactly how to do this, but I'm curious why you need a backup on a computer? Your purchase history is stored by Google, and apps can be re-downloaded any time you need. APK names are a mixed bag...kind of whatever the developer wants. There's probably info out there for each app, though.
