Don't worry, it's not killed.
If your device says update failed, usually it's because aos file is corrupted or file name is invalid. First, make sure that the filename is correct, browsers often modify name when you download same file multiple times.
And if it's correct then try to download it again from Archos website.
If nothing works, choose reformat device then try again.
If the failed is error 101, make sure you have the newest version of the update

You boot the tablet as usual and run Paul's root. Then you enable sde. After this, copy the file to the internal storage of the device using your computer. Boot into recovery. Go to development > install ramdisk. Another drive will appear on your PC. Copy the other 2 files onto it and press the power button on the device. Wait and then reboot

Stuck in a boot loop
Hi guys and gals, 101g9 250gb is stuck in a boot loop....
SO FAR...
I had sever problems with crashing on the archos FW.
So I switched to a xda dev version (can't remember which one).
It worked well for 2 weeks, then just started a reboot loop.
I tried in this order:
Restarting in safe (button) mode 545434times
uninstalling the dev and reinstalling the archos FW
formatting android
formatting every other thing
Reinstalling the SDE menu - then trying a xdadev
It's still stuck in a boot loop.
Any help would be great.....
thanks

I received one of these the other day and began to tinker. Rooted with Gingerbreak v1.2, installed the full market, and busybox. All with no problems. I would like to change a few other things but with out having CWM to make a backup, I am a little cautious. When I go into the FWUpdate, it tells me there is an update. I tracked down the file on the web, downloaded it ( all 300 megs worth) and have been looking at it. If anyone would be interested it this file for development purposes I could upload it or provide the link of where to get it from.
Ive downloaded it. So far it fixes bugs. But you have to use root explorer to clear the unwanted apps

Well I started dissecting the update. Found it is still 2.3.1, it uses fuse to manage the file system, and has an updated recovery. The file system layouts are a little different than what I normally see on my Incredible. It has separate mbr, uboot, kernel, env, system, ramdisk, ect... I would really like to change the density but with out having adb working or a custom recovery, if I use a value that is not compatible I am in a world of hurt.
Yeah its still the same. For nw i currently waiting for cm7 for viewpad 7e. Btw the viewpad 7e isnt big and limited people.

Granted it is not a XOOM or a Galaxy Tab, but I don't think it should be it should be overlooked for development. I am not much of a programmer, but I do like to try. If a current developer could give some guidance as to how to build a custom recovery that would be beneficial.
Andy try power off the vp7e and then hold the power, volume
Up and down button. It resets my tablet.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
Yep, Power on with volume down boots into bootloader with a boot flag of 1 and volume up while power on also boots into recovery but with a boot flag of 2. Not sure what the difference is with the boot flag. I know that in both modes with usb pluged in, it is seen by my windows computer as a Viewpad 7e. Which is the same thing that is shown when I have usb debugging turned on with usb pluged in after a normal boot. I looked into the adb thing and I cant get adb to see it, even on my linux box. Kinda wierd the vendor id is 0bb0, Concord Camera Corp.
For now we have to wait for a custom recov and cm7 for our tablets

My viewpad 7e keeps rebooting after rooting - please help
Hi Andyav.... I saw your post that you have downloaded the firmware for viewpad 7e. It may be my best chance to recover my viewpad 7e and have it working again.
My viewpad 7e started a reboot-loop after I rooted it with gingerbreak and ran the google market installation.
I need to restore the original firmware but I can't find it anywhere.
Please send me a link and allow me to download your copy of the firmware for the 7e. I would really appreciate if you could do this for me.
My email address is [email protected]
Hoping you would reply soon...
thanks,
Ariel(Reapjack)
Could you also sned me a link to the firmware. I received one yesterday, but its downloading the firmware at about 5% an hour for some reason! If I used this copy for firmware and put it on a micro sd and update the viewpad from that? Thanks in advance
My email is [email protected]
I pm the link to you for the update.
Reapjack - Not sure how you will install update. I would try to copy file to root of sd card and boot into recovery to see if it will install that way. If not rename it to update.zip to see if the recovery will work that way. Let us know know how it turns out and which way worked. Thanks.
I'm trying to download F70 VSAM_S_W_C_11282011.zip, but I have the same problem, the very slow download...
will you send me the firmware too?.
Thanks !

Update file ran but tablet keeps on rebooting..
Hi Andyav.. Thank you for the update file. The file ran as expected by putting it in the sdcard's root. The update went fine but my tablet still keeps on rebooting.
It seems that this update is overwriting only some files but not all. Maybe that part of the OS that was rooted earlier is not being overwritten. Would you know if there is a full update that will overwrite everyting?
Thank you again.... I appreciate the help so much!
Thanks Andyav !!!
I really appreciate your soon PM with the link.
I have problems with the spanish languaje, hope that this update fixt it.
I'll post the results.
Thanks again !

Reapjack - How did you apply the update. Through the recovery or through a normal boot? I know inside that update there is an updater-script for doing a full update, includes mbr, kernel, system...etc. I am not sure how to trigger it though. Maybe that’s what the boot flag is for in the recovery.
I did finally take the risk and adjust my density in the build.prop file. Tried a few different settings. Default is 180. I am currently running at 160 but did try 200 and 220. Looks good but the display is still not as clear as my phone (HTC Incredible running MIUI). I know the screens are not really comparable, but Viewsonic has been designing and building monitors for years and this is the best screen they could put in this tablet.
Also did some digging around on the internet about the host cable. Found a few here and there but I can be rather impatient at times, so I decided to make my own. Chopped off the end of an old Motorola house charger, shaved off al the plastic around the end, de-soldered the wires and one resistor from the small board. Then dismantled a usb cable I had made for my original Xbox, soldered the cable to the mini usb end, shorted pin 4 to pin 5, plugged her in with a keyboard attached and it worked, first try. I did notice that the host mode is not real reliable. After the initial test I could not get it recognize keyboard again. Checked all solder points, tested from usb female end to mini usb, all tested good. Several reboots with cable plugged in, nothing changed. I knows to go into host mode, I can see it switching when i run dmesg. But it just doesn't know what it attached to cable.
Andyav, i tot the lastest update is 20111125? I dont have the 28.... version for ota update.

After 12 hours of downloading, tried to upgrade from the internal application but after reboot, the process was canceled because it didn't find the .zip file on the sdcard. (error mounting sdcard)
Surely the problem was that the sdcard was not properly formatted.
Now,
the Recovery system shows 1.9 version and bootflag is only "1", regardless of the volume button I use to start (+ or -)
I formated the sdcard and tried to do a manual upgrade with the file downloaded directly from viewsonic: F70 VSAM_S_W_C_11282011.zip, but no luck, the recovery reported bad file.
Any help?
hellodzulz, will you tell me where did you dwonload the 20111125 update to try it
Thanks !

Over the last few days I have been trying to get the ready for custom roms when they become available. Digging around on the internet trying to find as much information as I could about the hardware. While digging around for devices that have custom roms and use the same processor line, I found some rather interesting information about the Galaxy S Unbrickable Mod. Basically it is a hardware mod that causes the phone to enter a Samsung download mode for flashing. Well I took the plunge and opened the case, found and verified the processor, broke out my multi-meter and went probing. Was able to locate the hardware that controls the boot sequence, preformed the mod and plugged it in to my linux box. Ran the Unbrickable Mod Mode Detector and it recognized it. HOLLY CRAP. I have to do a bit more research on utilizing this mod to our benefit but I an rather excited that this mod will work for us.
I've downloaded the file again and everything went ok.
May be the first download file was corrupted due to the slow transfer.
The errors that occurred when selecting Spanish language were resolved.
Anyway, there is an issue with bluetooth.
I can send files to other devices, but I cant receive with the VP7e, when I try to send some file, the VP7e don't show the popup window asking permission to receive file.
Is like it's denied by default.
Does somebody successfully tried to send/receive files with bluetooth ?
Thanks !

Hello,
A few months ago, i rooted our Archos 101 succesfully. Multiboot. Worked nice.
Then the firmware came, and my partner let it install. But it failed halfway.
He tried some things, but no succes.
Now we found this guide on how to install the firmware.
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=54637
This guide seems to be the windows version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196318
My partner tried the steps, but nothing seems to work.
We have only the recovery menu, without the SDE .....
I tried to use the stock firmware and the sde version. But it stops directly, saying: update failed
I tried the format option, the fw-update version.
I tried downing with firefox and iE8. We use the original file-name
Nothing helps
I hope we are not bricked.
What can we do?
Thanks in advance,
Lydia

Hi,
What's your tab? it will help us i think.
and, have you all stock menu (except sde menu of course)?
I have no idea, except, your hardware is damaged.
another question comes to me: The full format works well?
Bizcuite
If u can uninstall SDE do it (if you dont have SDE menu skip this step). Try full device reformat. Make sure you download the right firmware for your device cuz many people made the mistake to download the wrong one.
We have an Archos 101 internet 8gb gen8
We used this stock firmware:
update.archos.com/8/gen8/gen8_2.4.83/firmware_archos_android_gen8.aos
and this sde firmware:
archos.com/support/download/firm_dev/firmware_archos_android_gen8.aos
(sorry outside links are not allowed for me yet)
We tried several formats. The guide let to format from within windows. Recently I cleaned my computer. So no ADB of Android sdk intstalled at the moment. The format from the windows-admin is a bit strange, but I hoped the guide was ok.
We tried FAT and FAT32
It seem to work.
We have only the white screen with the boot menu. No SDE.
The firmware worked in the beginning but got stuck and hanged voor about half an hour. Then we interupted it by switching off the tablet
Now it won't start any script.
I do hope it is nothing with the hardware! Could it really go wrong when roootin?
Greetz, Lydia
Hi all I've updated my G9 80 many times and tried all the available ROM's with a few hiccups but have always managed to recover the tab with the info on this forum. On my latest update the tablet appears to refuse to load a ROM from the SDE menu? If I boot the tab normally it halts at the ARCHOS boot screen but I can see the tab in device manager/Disc drives as ARCHOS_A80S but not in the explorer window and the USB is shown as an unknown device. If I boot up into the SDE/Archos A80S Recovery menu and then select (Update Firmware) it opens up a drive on my win7 system labeled A80S_REC as per normal and I can transfer the (fimware_archos_it4.aos) update file across to the tab but when I select (OK to disconnect) the tab starts the update in progress which fails after about 20 seconds with a Update failed (221) message. This is the method that has always solved any problems in my previous operating excursions but after a few days of trying to solve this problem I'm now at an impasse has anybody any ideas or is it time to upgrade to the Gen 10 and retire this tab as bricked
Thanks for any info
Ken.
I made the basic mistake of trying to update with an older ROM (kicks own backside for making such a basic mistake) aaaaa well back to trying to brick it again but I happy as the screen of my old backup Hannspad is doing my eys in
The 221 error usually means that you have tried to install an older official Archos firmware than the last official Archos firmware you had installed.
If you know exactly which one that was, then you can find a link to download it hidden in-between all of the other rooted and custom ROMs in this list.
Go into Recovery / SDE and do a full Reformat. Do not try to install anything, just go thru the steps (without connecting to your computer) and let it fail the firmware upgrade process. Then exit out so your tablet turns off. Then start back up in Recovery / SDE and do another full Reformat. Then connect to your computer and copy over the Archos .aos file.
If it still shows a 221 error after that, then you may have at some point installed a higher official Archos firmware. Start all over with the above steps, but with the next higher Archos firmware download.
I really do not know just what might happen if say you had the official Archos 4.0.7 firmware installed and then installed a 'rooted' 4.0.25 or 4.0.26 firmware. That could possibly somehow make the tablet only allow you to install that specific official Archos firmware afterwards also.
Let us know what luck you have?
Now OK
Hi I came to the same conclusion myself and solved the problem 5 min after starting the thread but thanks for the info, it's much appreciated. I cannot understand how I missed this for so long as I've loaded the majority of the roms on this site. I solved it by downloading the latest rooted Firmware 4.0.26 from surdu_petru (GENIUS ROM MAKER )
Thanks again
Ken.

Help. I have a Superpad 8 Chinese tablet that will not boot.
At first, it would boot only as far as the "Andrtoid" boot animation and just hang there.
Then I started trying to restore a different ROm to it.
ADB sees it, and I was able to pull the /system directory from the tab.
After trying to flash a ROM to it using this "Livesuite" app I found, , which completed successfully, but since then, when the tab boots, it displays absolutely nothing.
ADB still sees it, but whatever command I send (adb reboot recovery or adb reboot bootloader), it just reboots and does nothing...
Can ANYBODY help, please?
I am still very new to ADB & troubleshooting Android, so I need all the help I can get!
Thanks in advance, and if you manage to get this tab working for me, I'll buy you a beer or 5...

same problem any ideas
any ideas to fit the problem?
Hello, I had a very similar problem which I had which might help with a BC1003 user.
first was the internal LCD cable came loose.. common problem...
Another was it would not boot at all. So I used Livesuit with "sun4i_crane_bc1003.img" dated August 2012... November 2012 did not work!.
It does appear to matter which .img file you use (unfortunately), because the WiFi does not work with the November version.

hi ... same tablet, some problem...
after 3 days trying every possible firmware, and booting them from external sd card
all i could do was change de logo at boot start from (mapan to kosaco, to oem etc..)
than i had the idea of removing the internal sd card to look at it ...
and guess what it still runs the same with out no sd card in or out
so i thought ... the sd card was never read in the first place cause is damage or corrupted...
so on the 4th day im trying to format and partition the new internal sd card... hoping for the best.
by know u may not even have that tablet anymore but is food for thought for a next android promblems.

Hello when i, make system recovery, ant me tablet reboot, and don't not loading only show archos logo screen, and i cant use system recovery, where is the problem, how i can fix it?
If you had custom rom installed and made reset to factory settings, then this is an usual problem.
Try to flash rom again.
Check if you can enter in recovery menu by pressing "volume up + power on" on powered off device.
Thank you recovery menu now working, what rom is recomendet for me tablet?
Before installing custom rom, install official rom for your tablet, you can find it on archos website.
I'm using freezenook ROM. Do not reset your config in future with this rom. Only stock rom doing it correctly.

The update firmware option in recovery is what you want. Choose that. Hook data cable up to computer. In windows you should see a new drive pop up saying Recovery or Rec or something. It may say 180mb or something but Archos' firmware should fit on it just fine.

I'm having the same issues.. my girlfriends kid hates me and bricked my archos 101 good...I only have a three hundred megabytes drive I don't see the actual hard drive for the Archos I put the firmware on there and as soon as it tries to update the firmware disappears and the drive becomes invisable/unreadable again. I do get an archos splash screen occasionally but it locks there.
I have to do the full archos format twice before my computer can see it again I'm trying on both windows 8 & 7.. I've tried with the supplied archos cable and went out and bought a new cable just in case both a 4 pin and 7 pin miniusb. I tried flashing the developer firmware and it booted up to the new splash screen froze there. I left ir on that screen went and did my laundry.. came home and nothing it was still stuck there.. i rebooted and i do not even see the watermark they talk about.. I'm ready to drop kick it but i love it..
I do know that the 300Mb drive does NOT have the correct serial number.. it is formatted fat 32..
With partition manager i can change the allocation from logical/primary. I can change it from a fat 32 to a fat 32 lba.
Or Linux fat 16 or something else. I tried changing the serial number of the drive and after the failed update it is incorrect again. And it wont allow me to enter the pc before the serial just the c.
I'm so frustrated and need help please my archos is my sanity on a 2hour bus and train ride to and from work everyday. This is going on week 3
Thanks for your help if you have any further ideas they are greatly appreciated
If you have only 300mb free I assume you are talking about the flash memory then. The HD models have an internal flash that programs get installed to and then the seperate HD where all your mp3s, videos, etc get installed to.
Have you gone into recovery and just tried to update the firmware from there directly? Same thing as Glen460 was instructed to do
