Bricked? Boot-loop? SDE gone. Firmware not installing - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
A few months ago, i rooted our Archos 101 succesfully. Multiboot. Worked nice.
Then the firmware came, and my partner let it install. But it failed halfway.
He tried some things, but no succes.
Now we found this guide on how to install the firmware.
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=54637
This guide seems to be the windows version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196318
My partner tried the steps, but nothing seems to work.
We have only the recovery menu, without the SDE .....
I tried to use the stock firmware and the sde version. But it stops directly, saying: update failed
I tried the format option, the fw-update version.
I tried downing with firefox and iE8. We use the original file-name
Nothing helps
I hope we are not bricked.
What can we do?
Thanks in advance,
Lydia

Hi,
What's your tab? it will help us i think.
and, have you all stock menu (except sde menu of course)?
I have no idea, except, your hardware is damaged.
another question comes to me: The full format works well?
Bizcuite

If u can uninstall SDE do it (if you dont have SDE menu skip this step). Try full device reformat. Make sure you download the right firmware for your device cuz many people made the mistake to download the wrong one.

We have an Archos 101 internet 8gb gen8
We used this stock firmware:
update.archos.com/8/gen8/gen8_2.4.83/firmware_archos_android_gen8.aos
and this sde firmware:
archos.com/support/download/firm_dev/firmware_archos_android_gen8.aos
(sorry outside links are not allowed for me yet)
We tried several formats. The guide let to format from within windows. Recently I cleaned my computer. So no ADB of Android sdk intstalled at the moment. The format from the windows-admin is a bit strange, but I hoped the guide was ok.
We tried FAT and FAT32
It seem to work.
We have only the white screen with the boot menu. No SDE.
The firmware worked in the beginning but got stuck and hanged voor about half an hour. Then we interupted it by switching off the tablet
Now it won't start any script.
I do hope it is nothing with the hardware! Could it really go wrong when roootin?
Greetz, Lydia

Don't worry, it's not killed.
If your device says update failed, usually it's because aos file is corrupted or file name is invalid. First, make sure that the filename is correct, browsers often modify name when you download same file multiple times.
And if it's correct then try to download it again from Archos website.
If nothing works, choose reformat device then try again.
If the failed is error 101, make sure you have the newest version of the update

You boot the tablet as usual and run Paul's root. Then you enable sde. After this, copy the file to the internal storage of the device using your computer. Boot into recovery. Go to development > install ramdisk. Another drive will appear on your PC. Copy the other 2 files onto it and press the power button on the device. Wait and then reboot

Stuck in a boot loop
Hi guys and gals, 101g9 250gb is stuck in a boot loop....
SO FAR...
I had sever problems with crashing on the archos FW.
So I switched to a xda dev version (can't remember which one).
It worked well for 2 weeks, then just started a reboot loop.
I tried in this order:
Restarting in safe (button) mode 545434times
uninstalling the dev and reinstalling the archos FW
formatting android
formatting every other thing
Reinstalling the SDE menu - then trying a xdadev
It's still stuck in a boot loop.
Any help would be great.....
thanks

[Q] Help returning to stock

Hello All!
Relative noob here...but more seasoned all the time. Firstly my viewpad device info from FTM:
SWVer=3.410
Model: FM6-001
HWVer: 107
In a nutshell: My bluetooth wasn't turning on (would turn on..then off). So tried to fix by:
1) Rooting and install CWM 5.0.2.6 (awesome tool BTW) and various ROMs, all done with success.
2) No good, oh well now want to give up. Contacted Viewsonic got RMA to return unit..however now concerned they'll not honor warranty if I rooted the device (sigh). So thought I'd return to stock. I did backup..but was already rooted when I thought of it.
3) Trying to return to stock using many versions Sutl3 and Sutlr...and on different PCs none work..once it boots to CWM menu...just stalls with error eventually.
4) Tried to install Napster's CWM with Recovery Menu to be able to return to original state with stock recovery. My version of CWM won't install it...errors out (another great tool though by the sounds of it).
5) Can't use fastboot..never sees device...although ADB works OK. Believe that the Bluetooth issue may be a hardware problem and may be effecting devices ability to work in "download mode". Note that HS-USB device is never present in device manager in Windows even though driver is installed.
So...my question...how can I return my device to stock with one of the below .nb0 files without stock recovery, sutlr or sutl3?
Files I have:
FM6-3310-0-5029-A02.nb0
FM6-3350-0-1008-A01.nb0
Can I somehow use CMW? Can I somehow use adb and "flash_image"?
Will super appreciate any thoughts!
Many thanks in advance!
Johnster25
If I remember correctly, you use SUTL3 from Viewsonic on your PC with the *.nb0 file in the same sub/directory - and just run it to flash the stock ROM or return it to factory condition, you do NOT use CWM to flash or re-install the *.nb0 file ... Part of this process involved overwriting the CWM installed on your rooted device & reversing it to become unrooted, look under the Development subforum here in this section as there's a link/discussion about how to restore, please double check on the details written up.
Also, make sure you have a mSD card in the slot - and that the USB drivers are loaded & running (they should be installed already back then) - might want to power down & restart the PC and do the same to the Vpad7.
Let us know how it go & good luck !
Many thanks for your response.
Well, what has happened when I've used SUTL3 so far is that I select the .nbo image I wish to flash, then the program restarts teh VPAD7 into recovery mode.
From what I've read, after a few moments the phone is then supposed to enter some sort of "download mode" whereby the new image is pushed across the USB cable.
It's at this point with SUTL3 seems to error out, and the phone simply remains in CWM.
I've read a few posts that suggest that not using the correct image could produce a response like this, so I'll retry again this PM having tried re-downloaded the two .nbo files I've tried, and one I've not tried.
Will let you know how it goes!
J.
Hi Again,
OK I've retried it with a fresh copy of SUTL3, and new .nb0 files. Still no good.
Take a look at the enclosed pictures. The first time I try to run SUTL3 the device not configure error shows up. By this point CWM is showing on the VPAD7. I try to run SUTL3 again in this state and now the device not detect error shows up.
So all in all it seems to me that the device when in CWM mode is not exposing an interface to the computer...or the computer lacks the driver needed to utilize the interface.
I've also enclosed a picture of my windows devices when the VPAD7 is connected, as well a copy of the drives that show up when it's connected. The only time the drives change is when the VPAD7 is in CWM mode, at which time the H: drive (where the adb program are) is not present.
So am I missing a driver?
BTW: Have tried to copy down the synchronization program that is on the H: Drive and ran it while running SUTL3...thinking somehow it acted like a bridge to the VPAD7 (I've seen some posts that suggest this). Still no good.
J.
OK..one more piece to the puzzle...or maybe off the trail...but when trying on two differnt PCs when the VPAD7 is first plugged in I get one set of driver installs...and note that the HS-USB has an error.
Later when trying to run SUTL on it...another set of driver installs...again HS-USB error.
See enclosed.
try run sutl with viewpad in FTM mode that worked for me good luck
I have same problem before..n my solution is change back CWM with old ..mine to CWM 2.5.1..found that CWM 5.0.2.6 got problem with SUT L3..and everythind done successfully..as long u can still access ur Viewpad to change CWM its ok..
Wow! Thanks so much for your reply! This would be a huge help. Any idea where I might be able to find that older version of CWM?
Alleycatzero you're a genius! Running SUTL in FTM mode has done it!
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is under the Development section - just d/l and unpack the zip file, copy to mSD card & follow the instructions. This verison should be the earlier one and I personally find it worked best together with ext3 and/or ext4 partitioning as needed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015005
The issues with SUTL3 and other apps not working/running has to do with the usb drivers not auto-installing & running as they should, try to uninstall Vpad7 drivers, reboot the PC - turn off any firewall and anti-virus software, connect the Vpad7 and let it finish installing/rebooting both devices again. Then, turn back on antivirus & firewall so that you will have easier time flashing rom, connecting mSD card & copying/moving files, etc.

[Q] Rooting android 4.04 allview P5

Hello, i just recently purchased an Allview P5 smartphone, it's really cost efficient but recently i started getting some problems because the phone is not rooted and i was wondering how to root the android 4.04. i tried the superoneclick 2.3.3 and installed adb and something from java, bu when i rung the program superoneclick the program just freezes and it's not responding. any suggestions or guides that i should follow?
best regards
Chris
Try root for HaiPai I9220. For me it works.
Having the same problem here, Superoneclick freezes on step 7 iirc.
HaiPai didn't work for me either
So that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923764
There you will find this: http://www.mediafire.com/view/?othd1gf76pa97zg
It is 100% functional, but need more knowledge and skill.
Ok, I came a lot further this time, but still stuck.
As soon as I let Cygwin `patch` the recovery.img, it does the patching and stuff, but it doesn´t create a new recovery.img for some reason..
If you check page 13 of that PDF manual: I get all the same messages in Cygwin, except for that "Repacking" bit.
Any Idea why it isn't repacking?
Losing my nerves a bit because of Cygwin, what a horrible program to get to work properly. Installation went on beyond 100%, till about 2000% and then just started to count further in negatives >____<
You must have installed 7-zip archive program.
SuperOneClick should work for this device. You may try this:
1) unmount the sd-card, turn ON usb-debugging
2) turn OFF usb-debugging
3) connect device to PC
4) click "Root"
5) when "Waiting for Device" appear turn ON usb-debugging
6) when "Starting ADB Server..." turn OFF usb-debugging
7) then turn it back ON
8) and back OFF
9) repeat this while "Waiting for Device" appears again.
@Stovka: I have 7zip installed, the unpacking/extracting of the recovery.img goes fine in Cygwin, but for some reason it just skips the repack part.
@AndreyETO: As soon as I disable debugging mode, superoneclick stops the procedure, so I didn't get far with that
So sorry, I don't really know what is the problem...
It was all ok for me - the one problem was that I had not installed 7-zip, but after installing it worked exactly according to instructions.
If it were successful: after recording recovery.img to the phone is first necessary to go into CWM mode (no run phone) and install the root file attached. End CWM recovery mode is classically done by clicking on "reboot system now", but after the first time there appears one more option (just I don't know what name), which must be confirmed! Otherwise, when you restart the phone again, then will be loaded the original file and the recovery process must be repeated - upload modified recovery.img and then root file via CWM.

Same experience on Allview P6 Stony (P6_0201_V1179 software build). This method works for me - similarly I had to run the script (and the reboot cycle) 2x before it had an effect.
As pointers for others, before you try this method you need to make sure you have ADB drivers installed. Trying to install stock google drivers didn't work at all for me, what worked for me was installing latest PdaNet drivers (pdanetZ350.exe) from here: junefabrics.com/android/download.php *
Don't forget to install OTA Rootkeeper app afterwards and run it once - hopefully saves you the hassle of rooting again if the P6 should receive an incremental update.
Enjoy, thanks Flapperbol!
(*= sorry Im not allowed to post links)
Version 18 also works
Just to let you guys know that version 18 of Root_with_restore works. I just the ADB drivers from the PDAnet install (which I cancelled after the drivers were installed) and the phone is now rooted!
Does anybody know how to get rid of those ugly allview icons? I hate those things.

[Q] Archos G9 refusing to load ROM

Hi all I've updated my G9 80 many times and tried all the available ROM's with a few hiccups but have always managed to recover the tab with the info on this forum. On my latest update the tablet appears to refuse to load a ROM from the SDE menu? If I boot the tab normally it halts at the ARCHOS boot screen but I can see the tab in device manager/Disc drives as ARCHOS_A80S but not in the explorer window and the USB is shown as an unknown device. If I boot up into the SDE/Archos A80S Recovery menu and then select (Update Firmware) it opens up a drive on my win7 system labeled A80S_REC as per normal and I can transfer the (fimware_archos_it4.aos) update file across to the tab but when I select (OK to disconnect) the tab starts the update in progress which fails after about 20 seconds with a Update failed (221) message. This is the method that has always solved any problems in my previous operating excursions but after a few days of trying to solve this problem I'm now at an impasse has anybody any ideas or is it time to upgrade to the Gen 10 and retire this tab as bricked
Thanks for any info
Ken.
I made the basic mistake of trying to update with an older ROM (kicks own backside for making such a basic mistake) aaaaa well back to trying to brick it again but I happy as the screen of my old backup Hannspad is doing my eys in
The 221 error usually means that you have tried to install an older official Archos firmware than the last official Archos firmware you had installed.
If you know exactly which one that was, then you can find a link to download it hidden in-between all of the other rooted and custom ROMs in this list.
Go into Recovery / SDE and do a full Reformat. Do not try to install anything, just go thru the steps (without connecting to your computer) and let it fail the firmware upgrade process. Then exit out so your tablet turns off. Then start back up in Recovery / SDE and do another full Reformat. Then connect to your computer and copy over the Archos .aos file.
If it still shows a 221 error after that, then you may have at some point installed a higher official Archos firmware. Start all over with the above steps, but with the next higher Archos firmware download.
I really do not know just what might happen if say you had the official Archos 4.0.7 firmware installed and then installed a 'rooted' 4.0.25 or 4.0.26 firmware. That could possibly somehow make the tablet only allow you to install that specific official Archos firmware afterwards also.
Let us know what luck you have?
Now OK
Hi I came to the same conclusion myself and solved the problem 5 min after starting the thread but thanks for the info, it's much appreciated. I cannot understand how I missed this for so long as I've loaded the majority of the roms on this site. I solved it by downloading the latest rooted Firmware 4.0.26 from surdu_petru (GENIUS ROM MAKER )
Thanks again
Ken.

[Q] Archos 101 G9 Turbo dont launching after factory reset

Hello when i, make system recovery, ant me tablet reboot, and don't not loading only show archos logo screen, and i cant use system recovery, where is the problem, how i can fix it?
If you had custom rom installed and made reset to factory settings, then this is an usual problem.
Try to flash rom again.
Check if you can enter in recovery menu by pressing "volume up + power on" on powered off device.
Thank you recovery menu now working, what rom is recomendet for me tablet?
Before installing custom rom, install official rom for your tablet, you can find it on archos website.
I'm using freezenook ROM. Do not reset your config in future with this rom. Only stock rom doing it correctly.

The update firmware option in recovery is what you want. Choose that. Hook data cable up to computer. In windows you should see a new drive pop up saying Recovery or Rec or something. It may say 180mb or something but Archos' firmware should fit on it just fine.

Thanx stevemp and Djirin...just tried it the now and it worked straight away...i realised i was mucking it up also by pressing ok after the download which i kept on getting failed: (221)....i downloaded it...took out the usb lead and it prompted me to put usb back in and then i saw it installing with the blue stripe at the bottom of the screen...so happy now...think ill celebrate with a beer cheers buds!! :good: :good: :good:
I'm having the same issues.. my girlfriends kid hates me and bricked my archos 101 good...I only have a three hundred megabytes drive I don't see the actual hard drive for the Archos I put the firmware on there and as soon as it tries to update the firmware disappears and the drive becomes invisable/unreadable again. I do get an archos splash screen occasionally but it locks there.
I have to do the full archos format twice before my computer can see it again I'm trying on both windows 8 & 7.. I've tried with the supplied archos cable and went out and bought a new cable just in case both a 4 pin and 7 pin miniusb. I tried flashing the developer firmware and it booted up to the new splash screen froze there. I left ir on that screen went and did my laundry.. came home and nothing it was still stuck there.. i rebooted and i do not even see the watermark they talk about.. I'm ready to drop kick it but i love it..
I do know that the 300Mb drive does NOT have the correct serial number.. it is formatted fat 32..
With partition manager i can change the allocation from logical/primary. I can change it from a fat 32 to a fat 32 lba.
Or Linux fat 16 or something else. I tried changing the serial number of the drive and after the failed update it is incorrect again. And it wont allow me to enter the pc before the serial just the c.
I'm so frustrated and need help please my archos is my sanity on a 2hour bus and train ride to and from work everyday. This is going on week 3
Thanks for your help if you have any further ideas they are greatly appreciated
If you have only 300mb free I assume you are talking about the flash memory then. The HD models have an internal flash that programs get installed to and then the seperate HD where all your mp3s, videos, etc get installed to.
Have you gone into recovery and just tried to update the firmware from there directly? Same thing as Glen460 was instructed to do
